Offline AI vs griefing

So from what i am reading, is a vampire cannot randomly attack known paladins, that have attacked vampires, as would be his nature, cause the paladin doesn't want to be attacked? or vice versa as well, their nature dictates that attack on sight, but that is against the rules, being the enemy is not enough reason?

Put yourself in that situation. Your character repeatedly killed, over and over, never able to progress, to level. The player unable to enjoy the game.
What are you going to do? Create a new character? What if something happens and that character is repeatedly killed? Create another? You'll still never level and enjoy the game.
If the griefing rule was not in place, you could easily kill someone over and over, causing them not want to play the game. From potentially buying karma to get their own lair, buy boosts and pxp orbs, and generally put income into the game to keep it going.
We are our characters handlers. We need to reign them in sometime so we don't ruin others enjoyment of a game.
Remove griefing for a year and the higher level characters could literally kill everyone lower level than them that doesn't see their point of view. Be all "Do what we say, or die repeatedly until you do, or you leave" it could easily turn players off to the game.
Yes, being able to play your character, how you want and think they should be, shouldn't drive players from potentially play the game.
Take this from a player who was driven from the game and only now, after 3 or 4 years, finally feel comfortable coming back.

The rule is in place as a basic jumping off point. From a moderation standpoint, griefing concerns are a case by case basis and an overarching rule that covers all bases is kind of impossible.
Basically what we'd hope for is communication between players. Yes, it makes sense for a paladin to constantly attack a vampire and for said vampire to constantly go after a paladin who's a known paladin. But there ought to be agreement and consequent story to go with it. If there's agreement and everyone's having fun, then there are no issues.

so a vampire can kill paladins, when he sees them, as long as not making a concerted effort to hunt one special one and keep it dead, but spreads it across all paladin/humans he meets?

Just don't mercilessly kill characters repeatedly. Others have just as much right to enjoy the game as you and everyone else.
Talk to the other player, keep an open, civil dialog going. Its easy to feel that you're being bullied when your character is repeatedly hunted and killed with no communication.

Yep. There is no rule against characters not liking each other, or against characters hating a particular group.
