Could make it an option to bank it or convert it the next time you log on the grid

@Becca: So, you're suggesting instead of doing away with it completely - just employing an option for us to choose how we wanted to use it, be it on power, cash or experience? Just wanting to be clear! :)

@David: My other question was to ask how it would work exactly. Would we post something, and then have the option on the 'successful posting' screen to choose how we wanted it converted? What ratio would it be at? Like, if we posted 1,500 words, what amount of experience would we gain?

I'm concerned about those that prefer the forum over the grid. Personally, I enjoy both about equally, as there's a different flavor for each sector, but there are those that like the challenge of working towards the RPP to reach a specific RP power for their character. I'd hate to see that taken away from them, especially if it were to only resort to the choices of experience or cash.

Yes. Convert it all for no energy waste, or bank it for rp powers.

Experience, as you'd be getting XP instead of RPP.

Most likely you'd get XP and cash for each post.

I wouldn't do away with RPP. I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets a thrill seeing how much RPP each post nets. And what would happen to RP levels? I like gaining levels there. I aim for that.

Pretty much this. The more it's explained, the more I feel like it wouldn't be something enjoyable. Like I mentioned before, the difference in gaining exp and rpp is fun. Also, I don't like the idea that it sounds like in order to add flavor to your character with an RP power, you would have to choose between going backwards in your leveling or gaining that power, as you would use exp to do it.

Doing away with RPP just to net more exp/cash seems to be something to make Path more grid oriented. The RPP gain offers its own unique challenge and fun to the game. I'd hate to see it go.

Yea, I am not a fan of the idea of getting rid of rpp. Or making it straight experience.

We work hard to earn that rpp, to then buy an Rp power. There is a sense of accomplishment that comes with rpp.

Also I have worked hard for Doc's 37 levels of Rp. Don't take that away.

As someone who tries to read as many threads as possible, 4 x RPP week has been very exciting. The only downside has been trying to keep up with all the new storylines! There are so many great role players here that I don't want to miss out on what they write.

It'll be interesting to see how the new characters and stories develop when things go back to "normal'. Ironically enough, I now have so much RPP stocked up that I don't need to write for almost a month, and still get my 500 free RPP conversion each day...

Having more bonus events, random or otherwise, would be fun, although I'd be careful not to do them too regularly in case it takes the excitement factor away.

As for the possible idea to scrap RPP and go with straight exp, I think this should be approached with caution. As other players have already mentioned, gaining RPP is a challenge, and there is a real sense of achievement when you hit that next level. I'm not the biggest role player in the world, but I'm still delighted to have made it to about level 20 with both of my characters. I have to agree with the guys who have already raised their concerns.

Also, from the gaming side of the fence, I am a bit sceptical. Exp earned on the grid is pretty objective. A player comes up with a strategy for their character, puts points in various stats, and if they are successful, they earn exp, and level up. For example, if I want my character to be good at melee combat, I put points in the appropriate stats, and the character will probably do ok. If they try to run a business, or perform rituals, they'll probably suck. In other words, exp is gained from a bit of planning. Good old gaming!

Writing isn't necessarily like that. I can very easily write 500 words in 10 minutes. Alternatively, I can spend an hour or two planning what to write, and then take another hour or two actually writing it. I'll gain the same RPP/exp for each post.

Combining RP with gaming is always going to be a tough balancing act. Rewards gained from RP should, in my opinion, generally have a positive effect on future RP. If you gain more RPP, you can gain more RP powers. If rewards from writing start to have more of an influence on exp, which potentially helps out on the grid, then it starts to shift the balance. Either allow exp earned on the grid to be traded in for RP powers to balance that up, or don't offer too much direct exp from writing.

I know that Path is moving more towards being a RP game, I totally get that, but exp on the grid is hard to earn. I'll be brutally honest, if I can start earning easy exp by spaffing out loads of posts in the forums to get more direct exp, then I'll probably do it. Sorry!
