Coffee Mate [Marty James]

Post by Mayhem »

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
Jayden: [T] Hey, you.

Marty James: [T] Hey man! What's going on?

Jayden: [T] Not much, I finished that project if you wanna go out for a cup of coffee?

Marty James: [T]Sounds great. Free now? Did you have a place in mind?

Jayden: [t] Have you ever been to Honeymead Market?

Marty James: [T] I'm sure I could find my way. When should I be there?

Jayden: [T]Great, when you get there, tell me and I'll direct you to the place.

Jayden: [T] Troubles finding the place?

Marty James: [T] I'm still a little new to the streets, but think I finally found it. Meet you inside.

Jayden: [T]Great! I'll order for us. Any particular way you like your coffee?

Marty James: [T] That would be great, I just drink it black.

Jayden: [T] Got it.

Marty James: *Marty would continue on his way along the sidewalk. Finally coming upon the shop and would wander in and glance around for Jayden.*

Jayden: Of course, Jayd had already made himself at home and was chatting up a pretty waitress when he saw the vaguely familiar face walk in. He raised a hand to draw the man's attention over, "Heya."

Marty James: *Marty would catch sight of Jayden, and head over to have a seat across from him. He would glance from the waitress and then back to Jayden as he held the play of a small smile.* "Sorry it took me so long to find the place."

Jayden: Jayd grinned and pointed out the cup of coffee for Marty, sipping his own. He gave a shrug of his shoulders in a typical, American fashion. Hands raised and all, "Don't worry about it. I was doing some work while waiting." He gestured to the laptop and cellphone laid out on the table.

Marty James: "Work hu?" He smirked before reaching for his coffee and having a sip. "What do I owe you? Or perhaps your next cup can me on me?" Marty was curious of many thing about people in general. At the moment he found himself wondering what sort of stuff Jayden was working on. "Work uh? Anything fun?"

Jayden: "If I intended to go dutch, I would have waited and made you order yourself." Jayd glanced down as his phone buzzed with a text from his thrall. A simple notice of the thrall going over details of the employee performances. Apparently the thrall would be making changes. Jayd didn't respond to the message and instead turned his attention to the man, turning the laptop so the man could see a bunch of technical and boring things, "I think it is." He turned the laptop back around.

Marty James: "Well, it's definitely appreciated." Shared as he gave a small raise of his mug before having another drink. As the laptop was turned in his direction, he would glance but could honestly not claim to know what any of it was. " That's all that matters really, that you enjoy it. I miss my old line of work, but working for Vel has not been all that bad. It's definitely different."

Jayden: "What did you use to do?" Jayd sipped at his coffee and his eyes lit when the woman returned with the food order. A large basket of chicken strips and curly fries. Jayd shoved the basket to the center of the table to show he was willing to share.

Marty James: "I traveled, took pictures, did interviews and those sort of things for a travel magazine. It's what brought me to the city actually. Funny how things work out." The last remark shared in light of having been turned. As the basket was pushed to the center of the table, an implication that it was free game, her would take a fry. "Thanks. So, what sort of work do you do Jayden?" He was honestly interested. Marty enjoyed getting to know new people.

Jayden: Jayd sniggered at the irony of the man's story. He shrugged as he gave his own answer, "I run three businesses. Working on the fourth. The first makes artificially intelligent robotic pets, the second focuses on helping girls feel confident in clothes of their own style choices, and the third is a mechanics shop that does customizations."

Marty James: The man definitely had a vast array of business ventures. It was definitely impressive. Marty doubted he could run business, let alone four. "What about the fourth? Have something in mind of what sort it will be yet?"

Jayden: Nodded, "It's almost completely worked out. Just some finishing technical details to deal with." Jayd reached out and snagged a chicken strip, munching on it with complacency.

Marty James: Marty gave a mod in response to the man's words, before having another drink. Part of him wishing the hot black liquid had something a little stronger in it. He was trying to cut back on such lately, though the urge was always strong, especially lately. " Must keep you awfully busy? "

Jayden: "Not really. I have a competent assistant. So competent he was off helping someone else with their business for quite awhile and I never even noticed his disappearance because he somehow managed to keep up with everything. I just don't like getting out much." Jayd grinned, sheepishly.

Marty James: "Understandable, though I wonder at times if perhaps I get out too much." So much lingered in those words. "Well, when you do get out, what sort of non work related things do you enjoy?"

Jayden: "The non-work related things I like don't include getting out either." He grinned, "I like to play video games." He finished his coffee and watched the woman refill it, "And you?"

Marty James: He thought a moment before answering. "I enjoy clubs, and some might say I have a small drinking problem, but I'm working on it. The loud setting can be nice at times, to get lost in the crowd and noise of it all." Not that he really had anyone telling him he had too, but his thrall sure complained about it often. That was possibly due to the fact of Marty being a small bad influence on the man in such. "I enjoy forging. Who knows, maybe with more practice it could turn into a profitable hobby. So video games? What types are your favorite? I have always been terrible at such games. '"

Jayden: "Mmm. Any, I guess? I like horror ones because I love horror movies." He thought on the club thing and shuddered. Club scenes were okay, but not really his dish.

Marty James: "Horror video games? Sounds interesting. I could never get the feel for maneuvering around some of the games I have tried. I guess if I played more often, it would be as tricky." Marty couldn't help but notice the man's reaction at the mention of clubs. He knew it wasn't everyone's thing. "I actually met my sire and her wife at a club. Well, I didn't know her wife was a woman at the time." It had just been an odd situation all around, but worked out in the end. "My kindness at times is often mistaken for flirting.... That got me in a little trouble with my sire, but it was all cleared up." Though Marty had nearly died that night.

Jayden: Chuckled a bit, "Which one is your sire? Mari is one of my workers. But I can't remember which is which for you."

Marty James: " Nishaa is my sire, though she thought I was trying to put the moves on Mari. It was Mari who saved me really, she was the only reason why Nis didn't kill me and turned me instead. I like to think that has passed now and that just maybe my sire likes me a little now. She's definitely not one I would ever want to cross intentionally." He would have a little more coffee and the the waitress would stop by only briefly to top off his cup. "What about you? I'm not sure I know your sire. I noticed you seem close with Every. I really like her alot, she's extremely nice, but looks to be the type that could be dangerous if she wanted to be."

Jayden: Jayd flinched, unintentionally. It was hard for his heart to not sink into his stomach at the mention of his sire given a vampiric curse he wasn't aware he had. "Ahm. My sire is.... ahm, my sire isn't really around much, yanno? You wouldn't know 'er. She was my childhood friend. I was actually the one who asked her to turn me. Yeah, Eve is great, she's a lot like a big sister. She looks out for me a lot."

Marty James: He suddenly felt like an *** for asking such a thing. Marty got the feeling it was a sensitive subject. "I'm sorry to hear that.." He truly was, and Marty could imagine not having his sire around, even if he didn't see her much. Marty felt he sort of had something to prove with Nis. He trained hard, all in hopes that she might never regret having turned him. "I'm glad you still have others, like Eve. Many of the blood seem really close, I like that. I grew up with a close family..." Marty missed them too, but knew he could never be around them really anymore.

Jayden: "Nah, it's all good, bro." Jayd grinned and snagged up a curly fry. Stuffing it between his lips. He smiled and nodded, "Yeah. Mom and Dad are there to. Dad says he doesn't like me, but I adore 'im. I dunno why, but despite his tough guy bravado... He makes me feel at ease. I'm not afraid to argue with him even though I know he's so much stronger. And mom is pretty good with talking me through things --Oh, mom and dad are Vel and Micah."

Marty James: He felt better with hearing the man's words. Though it was surprising to hear that Vel and Micah were his mother and father. Regardless, he was happy Jayden had them. "That's really cool. I honestly can't say I know them very well. Vel was kind enough to give me a job after I was turned, I definitely appreciated that."

Jayden: Grinned, "Don't let dad's tough guy bravado fool ya or scare ya off, okay? He always says he HATES Allurist but he's totally soft. He use to tell me he'd shoot me for calling him dad since he's my sire's birth father, but I haven't been shot and he puts up with it. And Vel is kinda like a tough-love kinda mom, but she helps me talk things out. Eve too. She helps me work through things and she's a fierce protector. I know some of the other familia if you have questions I might be able to answer. And if you have any questions in general... I might be able to help."

Marty James: "Thanks Jayden, I definitely appreciate it. Vampire life has been a little difficult at times to adjust to, but inclined to think it's going well." His eyes would linger alwa for a moment, as he thought about such things. Attention would shift right back to Jayden though. "I definitely got the idea that he didn't like Allurist. "

Jayden: Grinned. Jayden paused in his oncoming words when the waitress came back to see if either needed a refill. Wasn't a good idea to let people hear after all. "Rule one, is obviously keep quiet." He chuckled, "Yeah, Dad isn't a fan of Allurist. But, umh, subject change until we're somewhere more secluded, yeah?"

Marty James: "That's a good idea, that's something I'm still getting used to too." It was something he never realized would be so hard to hide at times. " So Jayden, you seeing anyone? I'm not, but my ex wife thinks that I am.... Well, I sort of told her I was. It just seemed to be a good explanation for why I wanted to move here." It had worked, she bought it, though lately the lie had gotten a little out of control. His grandmother had unleashed a mass amount of questions about the mystery woman when they had spoken last.

Jayden: Blinked at that question, taking a drink of his coffee. He shook his head, "Nah. I... don't think I've ever even HAD a girlfriend. Heh.... A lot of girls hang around me though? So I'm pretty awesome with girls, sorta." He grinned, sheepishly, "So gimme the whole story on that, yeah?"

Marty James: Never had a girlfriend? Had he at least been out on a date? Marty definitely wasn't going to ask such a thing. Though with Jaydens question, Marty felt compelled to vent. He didn't have very many that knew such things about him. " I have been married twice actually. With my first marriage, we rushed it. We had only known each other three months. We were young and in love, and I grew up in a family that valued marriage. I thought she was the woman I was going to spend my life with, though it didn't work out. With my second wife, it was different. My family loved her and they still are quite close."

Jayden: "Why'd ya leave 'er then?" Jayd blinked his curiosity piqued. He knew it was a nosey question, but at least nosey meant sincere curiosity.

Marty James: He figured the question would be asked, but he felt comfortable enough in telling the true reason, and not break down. He found Jayden was easy to talk to also. He seemed to be one not to judge. " She didn't want to be with me anymore. Sometimes things happen, that are no ones fault, but it can still drive a wedge between people. Marty still loved her, and knew part of him likely always would. Marty didn't take relationships lightly. He was not one for random hookups, he took being with a woman very seriously.

Jayden: Jayd rubbed the back of his neck, feeling bad, "Sorry. But umh, plenty of time to ease that ache and when you're ready -if you're ever ready, plenty of fish to jump back in the sea and catch, yanno, bud? No rush." He reached over and patted the other on the shoulder.

Marty James: "Thanks..... I know but it's just... I miss it. Just the whole idea of having a better half ya know." The pat on the shoulder was comforting, and Marty felt compelled to speak further. "Even if I do find someone one day, it could never be like what I lost with Grace." Why, because Marty could never have a family, a true family of his own. The child Grace had lost, would always stay in his thought forever.

Jayden: "It's not suppose to be like what you had with her. Each person brings something different to any type of relation. No friendship is the same, no romantic partnership is the same. Even if you date the same person twice because variables have changed since the first time. So it doesn't have to be like it was with Grace... It just... has to form its own working system." Jayd shrugged and sat back.

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
Marty James: Marty smiled, as it seemed Jayden definitely had some good insight on such things. "I wish it could be.... If I had not been turned, I had full intention of fixing things with her. That could never happen now though. She has always wanted a family, and that's something I can't give her now."

Jayden: Jayd offered up another shrug, "Just make do with the cards ya got. Ya never know, this fate could have a better end than the one that you'd have faced if you'd gone back. Maybe the other would have been better, but you'll never know, so no point in not looking for the pros in this, right?"

Marty James: He knew the man's words to be true, and they were things he tried to tell himself. "Though back to the fake gf. She called me no too long ago, Grace, to check up on me. She asked if I was seeing someone, and I just told her that I was. It's just seemed easier for' her to believe that story, verse the real reason this is my new home. I failed to think that she would talk to my grandmother and tell her I was seeing someone.... Now my grandmother has been calling me all like.... Sweetheart, when are you going to come see me. I want to meet this new doll of yours.... " The last part shared in his best impersonation of his grams Jersey accent, as that's where she was from.

Jayden: "Ask someone to go with you and pose as your girlfriend?" Jayd shrugged in thought. "Preferably someone that won't crazily fall in love and then try to tie you down."

Marty James: "I have thought about that. Though I fear it might be the other way around.... like if I were to buy into the lie and fall for whomever it was pretending to be with. Just to have my heart broken yet again when I was not loved in turn, because it wasn't meant to be real." He would abandon his coffee and reach for another fry. "And here I am rambling your ears off about such things." Smiling before putting the fry in his mouth.

Jayden: Jayden considered that before he leaned in with a serious answer, "Then make your lie real. It might be hard to move on so quickly, but find someone. It doesn't have to be someone you want to spend eternity with, because statistically speaking, the honeymoon phase only lasts 6 months to 3 years. It takes a certain kind of commitment and compatibility to last beyond those chemical releases. So you don't need forever, just look for, 'I would not mind if you were my forever'. And then you'll have someone to take home to grandma."

Marty James: He could not help but laugh a little. "I bet you're the type of guy that always has a plan. Not that that's a bad thing, you actually have some good points."

Jayden: Grinned, "S'at a bad thing, bro?" Jayd took another chicken strip before checking his computer, tapping something on the keyboard and watching a program open up.

Jayden: "I stand by my aforementioned decision: I don't think I wanna know. Justifiable Denial of Knowledge." Jayd Held up a thumb in a sign of, 'all good'. "Try getting an organizer."

Marty James: He swirled the coffee in his cup for a moment before having another drink. "This is actually really good coffee..." He considered the man's words though. "I hired an assistant actually, guess they call them trails or what not. He's not all that great at his job though." Marty laughed a little, but knew his thrall Cato was more than an assistant. The guy was like family, in an odd sort of way.

Jayden: Jayd shook his head and leaned in to whisper, "Thralls." He then continued, "My assistant is Dante. He's a really capable dude. Even Eve nabs him from me to help her with her endeavors." He leaned back and picked up his phone, tapping it, "Get a good phone and it's the only Organizer you will ever need."

Marty James: "Ya, I have never been the best with electronics." Shared as he fiddled with his cup a little more. "They have a bad habit of breaking on me." So maybe Marty was a little clumsy at times. "So, what sort of snazzy devices do you like to use?"

Jayden: "Use? I MAKE the stazzy devices, bro." Jayd reached into his bag, sat at his side, and grabbed out a little robotic that was identical to the Mogwai Gizmo from the Gremlins movie franchise. The little companion he'd made for himself when he'd opened his first shop. The little tart went everywhere with him. He sat it on the table. "Hey, Giz, can you bring me a chicken strip from the basket?" So what did the little animatronic do? It pushed the basket closer to Marty and further away from Jayd. Why? Because Jayd was always picking on the poor thing.

Marty James: "You make them? Honestly I'm not all surprised." He watched as what looked like Gizmo from the gremlins movie, pushed the basket of food closer to him. "This is really cool man. Is it programmed t o do the opposite of what you say though?" Asked as he would grab another curly fry.

Jayden: "Nah. They're AI's -Artificial Intelligence. They learn as they go. The ones I make develop personalities based on how they interact with their owners. In Gizmo's case, I predetermined his personality to match up with how I felt he behaved in the movies. I'm always picking on the little bugger so he like to get even. A While back I dumped water on him to show a client their water resistance." Grins. He reached out and scratched behind the animatronic's ear. Giz cooed and purred.

Marty James: "Very interesting." His eyes held upon the gadget a moment before looking back up at Jayden. "Dumped water on him hu? No wonder he doesn't like you." Spoken with the hint of a joking tone.

Jayden: Shrugged with a grin. He tickled the animatron's sides and the sensories sent signals to the "brain" It was less than a second before the animatron responded with the appropriate reaction of shrill little giggles. He then pinched the animatron and it quickly reacted with another appropriate response. By smacking Jayd's fingers. "See? Smart little tart."

Marty James: "Very smart little tart." It was tempting to ask how it all worked, but Marty was sure he would likely not understand. "So, what other sort of gadgets do you make."

Jayden: "Go check the shop out sometime, eh?" Jayd shrugged. He honestly couldn't say what all he made as he even took custom orders among the decided fixed pet types. And even among the decided fixed ones, there were variations.

Marty James: "Definitely." He was definitely interested in seeing more. There was no doubt about it, Jayden was one smart cookie, no doubt about it. " So, have you always been I to these sort of techno gadgets?"

Jayden: "I've always been into seeing what makes things tick." He eyed the little animatron. "And what was your cup of tea from young? Were you a dinosaur boy?"

Marty James: He really laughed then, sitting back a little more making himself comfortable. "My cup of tea? I have always been into anything that brought on a good adrenalin rush. Drove my parents crazy growing up." Definitely a fun thought, of all the crazy stunts he had pulled in his younger years.

Jayden: "Trouble, huh?" Jayd snickered, "I'll hafta avoid ya then." A joke of course.

Marty James: "Aw, and miss all the fun?" He couldn't help but tease. "Though that sort of behavior came with a many of broken bones back in the day."

Jayden: "That isn't my idea of fun, bro. My idea of fun is Nerdy things." He grinned and rolled his eyes, playfully, "My 'back in the day' was bailing Lils-bug out of trouble with the school."

Marty James: "Lis-bug? So you're good at getting people out of trouble? Maybe I'll keep that in mind." The last was shared half jokingly.

Jayden: "Lils-bug. Zoey Jane. My... Sire." He grinned and gave a sheepish shrug. He eyed the other, "So...."

Marty James: "Ah, got it.... Zoey Jane." Marty recalled seeing that name on the bloodline forms he was sure. Maybe it had been the vamp who had been having trouble with a vamp drinking from her thrall. "So, you never got into any trouble in school?"

Jayden: "... Depends what you call trouble." He grinned, boyishly. He glanced around, oh so innocently which was to say not innocent at all, "I was the boy that had to learn to run away quick or get stuffed in lockers. I did some questionable substances with Lils, and I got pulled into her shenanigans."

Marty James: "Questionable substances hu?" He could help but smirk a little as he spoke. "Well, I hope none bothers you anymore that you have to run from. Though if ever you need an extra person to have your back, you can count on me."

Jayden: "... Only if you count our family." He grins, "I'm not exactly the most athletic if you haven't noticed. But the offer is great though, thanks, dude. I can't say I can return that much though unless you're looking for a more witty kind of back up."

Marty James: "Hey now witty backup is always nice to have." He found he liked how Jayden had referred to it as our family. It seemed as more time passed, the more this new vampire life and bloodline was beginning to truly feel like family.

Jayden: "Then I got you covered, dude!" Jayd held a hand out, clasped into a ball for a fistbump, "If I'm a bit tart, I apologize. Habit. I tend to treat girls better than I treat dudes."

Marty James: Marty didn't skip a beat, and would make a fist to bump to Jaydens outstretched fist. "It's all good man, I get it. Though back to the whole chick thing. The city definitely has many of those that are easy on the eyes.... if you know what I mean."

Jayden: "... You want to hook up with the chicks?" Quirked an eyebrow.

Marty James: "Well, I have never been into just hooking up. But looking doesn't have to involve hooking up. What about you though? Any particular interests?"

Jayden: "... Mmm. Not particularly. Personality makes a person. A person can be aesthetically pleasing, but once you get past that to their personalities, you'll start realizing every corporeal flaw the more you begroan their bad personality. Overall I think all girls are pretty in one sense or another."

Jayden: Jayd shrugged.

Marty James: "All very good points, though everyone's personality is flawed in one way or another. It's all about what flaws balance off your own. " He shrugged and would have a drink of his coffee but found it had gone cold.

Jayden: "Everyone has flaws. It's just about... Finding the good qualities. There are plenty of great girls here. Just haven't found the right great girl." Shrugged his shoulders.

Marty James: Marty was curious of many things, but he wouldn't press. "True, I'm sure the right ones are out there somewhere. It's just up to fate I guess."

Jayden: Quirked an eyebrow, the other looked like they had questions, "Don't withhold, bro. That's bad family ethics. What's on your mind?"

Marty James: Marty would give a shrug of his shoulders. "Just curious of what sort of chicks you're into? Maybe we could go hang out sometime and be each other's wingman." He had always been a great wingman. His thrall Cato definitely appreciated such whenever the two of them went out.

Jayden: Blinked and shook his head, "Nah, dude. Thanks for the offer but... Girls aren't meat. I want to find the right girl, not just any girl. And I don't have a type because I won't know who's the 'right' one until I meet her, yanno? They're all beautiful, it'd be easy to run to any girl, but I don't want that."

Marty James: "Well, where do you go out in hopes to come across the one? Can't meet her if you're not out meeting women right? I guess I don't really have much room to talk. Both of my wife's and I were introduced through mutual friends."

Jayden: ".... I go out.... And you'd be surprised at how many girls I've met. Girls get along with me pretty well." Though, mostly they just wanted to coddle him like a small fluffy animal.

Marty James: "Fair enough. Well, I truly hope you find what you're looking for one-day man. It's something great, when it's real. Though hurts like hell when you lose it."

Jayden: Gave the other a small thumbs up, "That's why I want the real thing, because if I have it, I won't want to let it go and I'll feel motivated to fight for it."

Marty James: Marty wished he could fight for what he had, but he knew he was no longer the man she needed now that he had become a vampire. "I'm sure you will." He truly meant it too. Jayden seemed like a really cool guy, and definitely deserving of such happiness. His phone suddenly buzzed, and glancing down he would see it was from Cato. "I hate to cut this short, but I have to run. Maybe we could make this a regular thing? It was nice hanging out."

Jayden: "Yeah, sure. Coffee breaks can be squeezed in on occasion." Jayd grinned and held a hand out for a quick and informal kind of mix between a high five and a shake. "Dante'll probably have a pile of work waiting for me anyways."

Marty James: He wouldn't hesitate with reaching out a hand to shake Jaydens. "Maybe one night you can show me some of those video games you're into." Jayden was a cool guy, definitely a good influence that Marty could use in his life.

Jayden: "Sounds good. I'll show ya how to totally pwn *** at 'em." Jayd retracted his hand and pulled out some bills, shoving them under the food basket to pay the bill before heading out."Later, dude!"

Marty James: He gave a wave as the other man left. Standing, he would pull out his wallet to Ross a little more on the table for the waitresses tip before heading out.
