This bugged me soooooo much when I lived in Georgia.

I remember the first time I asked for a soda from the boyfriend at the time..

"Want a pop?"

"Grab me a Coke, please."

"What flavor?"

"What do you mean what flavor?"

"We have orange, grape, regular and white."

"Uhhhhh, are you on drugs? Those aren't Cokes except the regular. I want the regular."

*Gets handed a Pepsi*

"This isn't a Coke."

"Yes it is."

"It's a cola, yes. But it's not a Coke. Coke is Coca-Cola"

We call them lightning bugs and fireflies interchangeably where I'm from, I think. At least, you'll say one or the other and no one will give you a weird look.

NC born and raised. >.>

Always heard Lightning Bugs, almost exclusively.

Never even heard a drink called a 'pop' until I visited KY. Then I moved there a few years and everyone called it that. It drove me insane. x.x;

So glad to be back where people talk normal.

I kid, of course.

I'll have to tell the boyfriend's kids to stop smearing them

(if you smoosh a lightening bug/firefly and smear it....the smear glows. yes, we're horrible people)
As a kid... I did this too >.> 'Look ma! Glowing earrings!!'
The name for them was always interchangeable, and occasionally called flicker bugs too.

Don't get them much here, but when I do see them... I call 'em lightning bugs. Mostly because I think it sounds better.
I know, the new banner's really bad.
