Sharing Battle Tactics

Post by Azraeth »

Okay, so I think that one of the harder parts of Path to really get into is the battle tactics. Some people set theirs once and never touch them. Other people (LIKE ME) try out different tactics against different opponents to see what the results will be, and also because trying out new strategies is a lot of fun. I mean. If you're a bit of a nerd, and let's be honest. I'm WAY more than a bit of a nerd.

So this thread is for posting about tactics, NPCs, battle reports. Sharing experiences, talking about what works best in certain situations, etc. I figured an open dialogue might work out really well for spreading information.

For example, I have never really used the Throw power in NPC battles, and I decided to try it out and found out it causes damage (broken bone). Which was pretty nifty. :| LOL I thought it just put distance between attackers.

FOR EXAMPLE. A really good classic combination is to get a High Warlock's glove, invest in a battle power at low anima cost (user choice, though I generally prefer Tier 2 Shadowstrike because it comes with nice blood loss when it hits), increase arcane enough to get the power off a sufficient number of times, and invest in willpower enough to make sure the attacks land.

You can do some CRAZY good damage using that method, and it works against tons of NPC types.

I also have some ideas for shifter and illusionist powers, but I'll have to test them at some point.

What about other people?

So with the Lionelli Castle - I go firearm heavy first, and then martial arts with the same setting when losing. Shadowstrike, poison, rigormortis, and summon sidhe are always on - set to use whenever possible. I have mindblock set to use sometimes. I try to just use the powers that I know will take the most blood that they can, really.

I've noticed with illusionist and shifters, I don't like to use mindblock and instead remove that and lower sidhe to use sometimes to allow shadowstrike and poison to do a lot more work. Overlords get the same response, although I have swapped from firearms to melee, but didn't know a huge difference between the two.

The same methods work pretty well in the grove, as well. They don't really like powers - which is nice for the EXP boost.

I highly suggest that if you're having trouble with your character fighting against something to switch around your tactics and play before giving up in that square - Every was able to kill the Lionelli in the castle while still in her upper 30's although it's suggested is 45. Always, always ask for help if you can't figure something out, either, because several of us would totally be happy to help. Bjorn's player and I usually lurk around the gauntlet too to test things out.

Based on this thread, I need to restat Kira lol. More arcane and willpower. She can't kill things she should be able to.

1. The timing of powers in when they are selected to be cast is significant too, because you don't want to waste time using a blood heal [ASAP] when it's more useful at [almost dead].

Also, remember that the effects powers does always not last more than a few rounds but they DO stack!

(I've seen an Alpha get swatted around by somebody who started off with 3 Feral Mutations in a row.)

2. A lot of abilities on opposing path types sometimes apply the same effect more or less efficiently than their neighbor.

3. Even more important is the movement and scrambling for position that takes place between opponents.

Why can't we add as suggested battle tactics to the npc list for the higher npcs like alphas and the overlords? I know there are people that have battled most if not all the high npcs.

The best tactic for fighting an Alpha is Wait for Killshot .

how to do good with battle tactics. Find one of the good spam powersfor the appropriate monster/player you're after and use the crap out of it. That's the best way to win any death battle even with Ncp. It is not about how good your character is it's about spamming the correct powers.
