There were days when a girl needed to break away from things that would bring someone down. Today was a day like that for Dawn. The night was warm, the skies clear, and she walked through the wilderness, her glacial blue eyes lifted to the full moon. The wind caught her long white hair and the light of the moon made it shimmer. She wore her simple white dress, something that was light and allowed movement. Dawn moved deeper into the wilderness and then came to the river that she knew ran through the city.
Her eyes followed the rippling light of the moon towards the lights of the city, they sparkled like stars. She just hoped the dark parts of the city, dark parts that never used to be, would light up soon as the stadium she recently bought was finished. As soon as the team she bought were moved in. She licked her lips and stepped into the river, her bare feet being licked by the soft lapping of the water on the banks.
The water was cold, chilling really, but she had never had a problem with cold water or water in general. She had a problem with the sun. That of course was because she was a vampire, had been since birth. Her eyes lifted to the moon again and smiled. The moon was her friend.

Woods were not always so lonely, but they hid all manner of things. Rabbits were not ideal for feeding, but they were safe. Simon had to feed, a lot. The bears, lions, and wolves would have easy kills for whatever meat was left over. All the vampire wanted was the blood, the fuel to keep going. A figure was in a nearby river, walking around. One of a few things could happen. Either, Simon had an easy meal, a new friend, a new enemy to kill, or something that didn't meet any of those.
Quietly, he emerged from the woods. Honestly, the man might not have been recognized by friends, family, and enemies. The brown hair was long, brushed back, and tucked behind the ears. A grey suit clung to his person, including a matching vest. Peeking out of the breast pocket was a solid red pocket square that was a muted crimson color. Neatly tucked into the vest was a tie that matched the pocket square, and a white button up shirt to top off the look.
Parts of the suit, and figure, were hidden by a muted black long coat. Parts of the lining peeked outward to the world as Simon moved forward. It was the same shade of red as his tie, and pocket square. Dark black leather gloves covered his hands, but the shine of his black Coal Haan William Oxfords. If someone looked down at his shoes, people could see the moon looking back at them, warped by the various details of the shoes stitching.
Slung over his shoulder, and across his back, was a long cylinder canister used to hold artwork. Inside was one of his trusty weapons, but the world would simply suspect Simon was either an art dealing, or collector. The look would have been sold more if he tried dressing like Andy Warhol. However, he couldn't quite hold the lingo to be an art dealer. It was easier to be a buyer, or collector. Someone rich enough to say they knew what they liked, but it didn't require knowledge of all the trends, or artists of any particular age at any given time.
"If you play in the river too much, you might ruin your dress. Maybe catch cold, if you're not careful," Simon said, with a soft smile on his face. The voice was kind, and genuine. To him this was a comment used to help figure out what the dancing girl in the water was. Her response could have helped Simon eliminate certain options.
The sudden voice caused Dawn to gasp and turn quickly. Her bright blue eyes were wide in shock until she took in the male in his rather out of place suit. Clearly he was Kindred, but what really told her that wasn't how he dressed or spoke. She remembered him. He had been dressed far differently the last time they had met, but he was recognizable none the less. Dawn gave a soft, bright smile. Her fangs, though smaller than some other kindred she had seen, we still just as sharp and pointed, but pearl white, like her long hair.
At her feet, the water continued to lap, the hem of her dress getting wet by the spray of the water. Her chin lifted slightly and she spoke softly, almost like a child "The water doesn't bother me and nature..." she looked to the sky and then smiled a bit more before her eyes met his. "Nature embraces me, even if I feed on the blood of others." She then looked him over again in his tailored suit that looked more like he belonged in the jungle of concrete that was close to the forest they were in.
"You seem rather lost though, or are you looking for a meal this evening?" She didn't move, it was as if she were planted there in the river, still she seemed completely at ease, despite the cold water, despite the male before her. "If you are looking for a meal, I can help you with your hunger." Dawn was thankfully well fed thanks to her friend. He knew of her addiction to blood, knew that she needed to feed every night. And he helped when he could, she would then use the powers she gained from him to help him in return. One of those powers was to give them a boost so they no longer felt hunger.
She smiled warmly at him, despite standing in the cooler river. It was almost like she didn't feel cold. She did though, Dawn was just used to colder water thanks to her Alaskan root, thanks to her bloodline. Finally, she stepped from the water and back onto the shoreline, stepping closer to the male, watching him curiously.

Simon was going to say something, but that punctuation on the first phrase made Simon go, "Mmmh." It was a mixture of "Mmmhmm,' and "Uh-huh." A nod came from Simon, "Lost. Yes. I am lost. Been asleep, for too long. Not an eternity or anything, but long enough to make me wonder a few things. Who is still around that I know? Did the rumors finally die?" Simon squeezed his left hand, "Is...Is someone special to me...still around? Did she wait for me? So, yes. I'm very very lost. Mind filling an old-timer on a few of the comings and goings to the city? How bad, or wonderful, are things on 'The Rock'?" he asked. His eyes watched the woman.
"As for the eating, I could eat. However, I'm not overly hungry. Mind's too curious," he admitted before answers came. Honestly, Simon was a little too nervous to eat. The answers to the questions made his stomach churned. His gaze stayed on Dawn. Memory was coming back, a latent side effect to everything still. He was still recovering himself, if parts of him could be recovered.
"How did you and nature become so friendly? What have you been up to since we last spoke?" Simon asked softly as he was just curious to get his bearings.

Dawn smiled softly, her fangs dimpling her lower lip for a moment as the male spoke, as he did she tried to remember wether or not he had told her his name. A part of her thought he had, but she wasn't going to out right ask, at least, not right now. He said he was lost and Dawn immediately stepped closer to him, wanting to help him, but he continued to speak and she halted for a moment. So many questions, questions that she herself didn't know the answers to. At least, not all of them.
Though she hadn't slept like he had, she had been out town so long that her return had left her feeling lost as well. But she had always been pretty good at adapting to new situations, so that feeling was pretty much gone within a week of her return. His question about the rumors though had her curious, she had no idea which rumors he was asking about. Then again, she wasn't the type of girl who listened to rumors anyways.
The idea that he couldn't eat because he was too curious amused her, though she kept that all to herself. His final question finally brought about a response. "Nature and I have been on good terms all my life, as for what I have been doing, I've been concentrating on my businesses, yes, I have many now. Though, I don't remember if I even had Kindred when you and I last spoke. That said, it is doing well, especially since I have taken some time off from touring to concentrate on it as well as my other ventures." She stopped there for a moment and finally moved with steps of him. "Out of curiosity, which rumors did you mean?"

"I was in the process of working on a second, but that went away when I slept. Congratulations on becoming a small-time mogul, or is that a big-time mogul? You didn't give me a number to gauge which word would be more apt. Either way," Simon bowed his head courteously. "To an heiress in the making," he said and meant that. The progeny were new to him, too. "I did not know of any children last time, but the memory is fuzzy. Easier to presume, I didn't see you with a childe. And that is presume, and not assume, for the record." There was a reason Simon avoided the word, "Assume."
Then the question about rumors came, and Simon gave a small chuckle. "Asking that question means they should stay dead. No use repeating them," Simon was a little relieved by that. Now, was the time to truly rebuild. "Don't suppose you know of how the various houses are standing?" he asked. Presumably that was a no, but even some small shred of news was more than her currently had. So, any scrap would do.
"And, what else do you do out here in nature? Gaia sings her song to you, but eventually the song ends, does it not? I know it is one of the worst moments as a listener, or performer, when the curtain is called. However, everyone calls the curtain at some point. It is up to the performer to determine if that is the last show, or just the one before the next. Tomorrow's yesterday, if that makes any sense." Simon waxed on a little bit. His gazelooked toward Dawn, "What does nature, say to you?" he was curious about this one.
"I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring." - David Bowie
Dawn listened as he spoke, she smirked a bit when he called her a mogul. She didn't see herself that way, yes, she had four businesses that were doing well, the construction team she had hired was still working on what she hopped would be a lavish stadium. A place where mortal and immortal alike can go and support their home team. Not only that, but she was having it built to be a safe zone for everyone. A place they could be safe from whatever could happen in the coming months or years. She wanted to protect this city, she wanted to save it. She just had to do it a small part at a time.
He continued to speak, this time mentioning children. She blinked in confusion for a moment but then it hit her and she giggled softly. It was he who was confused, though of course, she had it coming when she named her first business 'Kindred'.
"I believe I have confused you, Kindred is the name of my first business. Kindred Moon Records, to be exact." She smiled softly at him and continued, "I don't believe I had opened it when you and I first met, to be truthful, I such at remembering dates." She said with a laugh, and then went on, "I believe I was just a singer then. Now I'm a producer as well as singer, song writer and dancer."
She listened to the wind for a moment but then tilted her head slightly. "Houses?" She had to admit, she was fairly good at avoiding most of the politics around the factions of the city. The only politics she was trying to get into now was trying to get to the mayor. She wanted to gift him and the city with the team she had bought. Wanted him there so that he could cut the ribbon.
"As for what nature says, she doesn't really say much, she's more a listener. Though, sometimes I can hear her needs. Right now, she is silent."

(Sorry about the lateness. I thought I replied to this)
"Ah. Yes. The memory is fuzzy," Simon gestured to his head. Not all of his memories had come back. Certain bits were clearer than others. "I think it's a side-effect to sleeping so long. Well, I hope it is," Simon confessed a little bit. Then Dawn went on about how time had been kind to her, with a little luck. "You'll have to perform for me, but doesn't a producer bring problems. I know some of us have conquered the day a little bit, but...that seems hard even by the bar I was raised under." Cristi ran things during the day, she had a system. However, her jobs and desires were not as demanding as a record producer. "How did you accomplish all of that? How did you establish yourself as the woman behind the music? Performing is easy, once you find the band. The band is hard to find, I've tried it, didn't work." Then he paused again, "I'd like to see a dance, too."
"The politics. How the city works in certain ways," Simon wasn't sure if Dawn was the most politically collected. "The politics most people we know that have an aversion to the sun, love. And any city politics you might know, can help. I've noticed more military about these days, mind filling me in?" Simon emphasized one point, and asked another question. His mind started to think of other matters Dawn may have known.
"And speaking with nature kind of makes you like a Pope to Gaia. Some have abused religious power claiming God has spoken to them, when it is really more their own urges, desires, wants, and all that. However, I'm sure some were just there to listen. If they were lucky enough, from a career and faith aspect, he might have spoken. Maybe they could get a word in, but I feel like those Popes didn't do a lot of back and forth. More just listen, if he ever did spoke. However, all claim that the entity listened to them, it was just what they said his reply is the variation." Then he looked at her, "Catholic upbringing from long ago. Another life. it seems." That was long before Simon ever made it to Harper Rock, before he put an instrument in hand, but not before the music. He just wasn't the conductor to his own musical library yet.
"I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring." - David Bowie
Dawn smiled softly, "I still perform, I plan to have a concert the night of the opening of my new stadium. Of course it would also play host to the singers and song writers I now am producing. So you shall see me perform soon enough." She moved back towards the river and let her feet touch the water once more. "As for working in the day, I'm unable too, I have been unable to walk in the sun since I was young, so I have become a master of working around that problem. The thing that helps the most though is having a great team. In my case I now have five great teams. My band being my first."
She stepped into the water a little deeper, the hem of her dress clinging to her ankles now. She looked down at the water for a moment and then back up at him, "And you'll see the dance in time." With a soft smirk, she turned back to the water, then Simon began to speak once more. This time about Politics and it was almost as if he had read her mind. She gave him a deeper consideration for moment before he brought up the new militia in town. "To tell you the truth, I'm not to certain as to why or when they showed up. I myself have been out of town for some time, when I returned the city had gates on all the roads in and out of it and the surrounding towns as well. And the zombies and mooncalves are now outside of the quarantine zone. As well as another creature. They are like mooncalves but not. The are smarter. They look into your soul in the oddest way. And there's this guy that now stands guard at the entrance to the quarantine zone. Wants people to join the milita, but will pay for zombie ears all the same. There is one thing I have heard, how real it is I don't know, but I believe the rift has opened wider." That was really all she new on the subject of the militia at that point, though she hoped to know more in time. After all, she wanted to save this city, she needed answers but she wanted to be smart about how she got them.
Her crystalline eyes lowered to the water once more as Simon mentioned her connection to nature, and if she was at all truthful, she may have blanked out at one point, but she got the gist of it, especially when he mentioned his life before this city. "I see myself more a daughter of Naiads, my father and mother always loved the water, be in salt or fresh. Her accent, which she usually tried to keep neutral went thick with that one sentence. Now he held the notes of her ancestry, a mix of Norwegian and Russian.
"Why did you choose to sleep?" She was truly curious and it seemed as though he had thoughts on his mind he wished to share, or at least clear his mind of. Choosing torpor was not an easy choice for most kindred, it included the pain and suffering of starving. Even thinking that made the claws of her own hunger lash out at her for a moment.

“Well, I don’t have a ticket. I’d love to see you play, but usually you need one of those things to get in. I mean, I might know someone that could maybe get me in. She might have to pull strings, but she’s busy with a lot of different” Simon watched Dawn run her feet across the water. His eyes stayed focus on how that water rippled, moved, and even threatened to rise up if her movements were a little too fast.
“How many members of that team happen to know about your allergy to the sun?” a smirk pulled at Simon’s lips as he asked the question. Every vampire knew roundabout questions like this were public ways to address the vampirism. “And again, about the dancing. I’ll need to know time, place, get tickets, buy dancing shoes, and everything else like that.” A shrug of the shoulders came from Simon as he was happy to have the conversation.
Then the serious part of the conversation again, the smirk died. He focused everything on the woman. One detail he plucked out of the hefty chunk of news. “Tell me about the militia. The leader guy, what their purpose is, and everything like that.” A militia that had an anti-supernatural vibe was bad for a lot of people, and business, in The Rock. So, Simon was trying to do recon. This question was going to be asked several times to many people, and he knew it.
A brown brow shot up, “A what?” he asked. That term was entirely new to him. “Is that some kind of water nymph? You kind lack the wings, but I get what you’re saying.” More details were digested before he asked, “Why do you hide it? The voice,” he pointed out and gestured toward the woman. “Your real accent popped out here. I like it, you shouldn’t run from it, but why do you?”
Before she could answer, Dawn launched a heavy question to him. Hushing, Simon composed himself. He wanted this explanation to be clear, concise, and that was hard. Honestly, there was some mystery around everything, even to himself. So, he had to convey even parts that were unknown to him, and Simon didn’t want the answer to be some nebulous, “I don’t know.”
“You know when you’re tired, and you don’t want to admit a nap would do you good? You try to function, you try to do things, but eventually you wind up on the couch. Before you realize it, you’ve slept the day away. You might be pissed off because it was your day to work, do things around the house, whatever. But, part of you has to admit, you feel kind of good after that nap?” Simon tossed out the analogy seeing if Dawn experienced such days after all that work. Vampires, in many respects, were still human. Also, who didn’t like naps? Well, besides maybe coma victims. Simon imagined they were a lot like him, he just woke up, and didn’t like the prospect of sleeping away more time, even if he had an infinite amount.
“Sleeping. The big sleep. Whatever you want to call it, for me was that. I didn’t want to admit I was tired. Unfortunately, I forgot any kind of alarm. There was nothing to wake me. No fail safes, no anything. What should have been hours, days, weeks, or maybe just a month or two, became a lot longer. I’ll tell you something, sleeping too long really sucks. Your life becomes a giant puzzle that no one has shown you the picture to. You can put parts of it together, but you’re unsure how they fit in the big picture. Other things you can put together, but you’re not sure where it goes. Kind of like getting a giant chunk of the middle. You can sort of make out the whole thing, but not really. It’s a confusing ******* mess.” His explanation just rolled out. Simon was just shooting from the hip, saying everything he could, but keeping certain parts to himself.
Smirking a little bit, “I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m trying to find old faces that are probably gone, but I don’t want to admit it. Hope is a ***** like that,” shaking his head at himself. Simon felt like a fool a little bit. Waiting for someone that was probably a ghost at best. “I think my family is mostly okay. It’s beyond the family that makes me worried. Again, I wouldn’t recommend the long sleep.”
