Broken bonds

Mortll: Mortll half expected the number that popped up on the buzzing thing in her pocket. She had been feeling nostalgic she guessed something that was happening more and more often lately. She wasn't exactly sure why she had gone through with sending Doc the blood and the pic but it had felt like the right thing to do. She had been relaxing and reading a book while listening to music she turned the current tune playing down as she answered “Hello"
Doc: Hearing her voice as she answered, he smiled, "Mortll. I got your package. Thank you. " He paused, should he ask now...or wait? Maybe she would broach the subject herself. "What is the occasion? Did I miss an important date…?"
She smiled "Well to be honest i think you’ve missed a lot ... but No you didn't Miss a occasion I just got to thinking about you ... her voice trailed off
Doc: "Mortll..." He said, in a soft, yet cautious voice. "What happened?" He wanted to believe her. He did believe her… but something was wrong. there Enzo to consider after all. Had something happened to him? "Have… " He stopped. "Tell me what is going on.. "
Mortll: "I don’t know what’s going on ... I don’t feel anything anymore its gone .... the connection it’s just not there and he’s not here ... So I just don’t know. If he ever comes back Imma kill him but the bond the damn unbreakable bond .... it’s just gone “She sounded a bit confused but her voice was steady She was back to being alone and had been for a long time she was way too used to it. Only Doc could pick up on something like that with her so quickly that something was wrong ... One of the reasons he had been heavy on her mind as of late.
Doc: "****… " He said under his breath. If the bond was gone, that meant Enzo was more than likely dead… and if not dead… he was stuck somewhere he couldn’t get himself out of. "I am sorry." It was three simple words. But he felt every one of them. He knew how this must be killing her. ******* Enzo…why did he have to go alone? "Do you want company?" he was due to fly out the next night. He couldn’t leave without making sure she was alright.
Mortll: "Yeah " she said softly. It was the only word that was needed the only word she could think of ... Her mind really wasn't on Enzo. She had consoled herself long enough that he was gone. Mortll was used to people she cared about disappearing from her life. It happened often. Mortll had pretty much convinced herself that someone had laid a curse on her when she was born that it was her fate to have the people she cared about taken from her. It was a curse to anyone just to care for her. She guessed. Yet she couldn’t help herself and dared to tempt fate
Doc: "Listen... I am on my way. We'll will figure this out. " He disconnected and raked a hand through his hair. It wasn't so much that Enzo was most likely dead, it was that... Mortll didn't deserve this. He tomes to the portal room, and hit the portal to Honeymead. (eye spy poetic license here) He was headed to West Towers, he had concentrated on her, and recognized the cushions and carpet in her apartment. Exiting the elevator on her floor, he knocked on her door. He didn't think it would be proper to simply enter.
Mortll: Mortll slid off the cushion and walked over to the door the tile of the floor feeling cool on her bare feet She opened the door and moved back to let him in...
Doc: Entering without saying anything, he looked at her. She didn't look like she had been crying. Something was off with her however, he could see that. Awkwardly he held his arms open to her. These situations were tough for him. She could get insulted that he thought weak; and that was alright. He could be the bad guy.
Mortll: She eyed him warily her hand went up and ran through her hair. "Um I’m not sure you want me that close right now. She was in an old button-down shirt and a pair of shorts. She plopped down on one of the cushions and crossed her legs, motioning for him to get comfortable.
Doc: "Fair enough... " He wasn't wearing his usual suit. He was in a pair jeans and tee shirt and hoodie. he unzipped the hoodie and took it off. He tossed to toward the door, he wasn't that concerned with it. he was more concerned about her. He sat across from her on another cushion. He didn't say anything. He would let her speak when she was ready.
Mortll: "You know you are probably lucky that nut job you are bound to came back when she did?" She gave him a wry little smile.
Doc: Doc snorted, "Really? And why is that?"
Mortll: "Could be you up and disappeared instead of Enzo ... I seem to have that effect on people ..." She was totally serious. Curses were real living things they were tangible in so many ways. Science would argue otherwise but she knew better. She leaned back looking at him. She had a few things she needed to get off her chest and he was the only person she could talk about them with. She was glad that he had come.
Doc: Doc looked at her, "It isn't you Mortll. It was Enzo. I like him. I do. But he never gave off the ... 'I am in for the long haul' vibe. I tried warn you... but who the **** am I to talk?" He sighed. "Push comes to shove. Enzo was going to keep his word... he did. Then he blew town. I think he knew he wasn't up for it as soon as you accepted. But he didn't have to balls to tell you the truth."
Mortll: She could believe it if it were just Enzo but you take one look at her family even before she became a vampire it was riddled with people disappearing only one that had been there for her was her half mad great grandmother. Then from then on out anyone it seemed she cared about ended up dead the permanent type no chances of seeing them again. "Charles that’s only partly true I needed Enzo .... I used Enzo… yes, I cared for him but I used him. I had to you forced me to. I was honest with him about it ... but that wasn't an issue after we got to know each other. This quest of his this obsession for revenge .... he just wouldn’t let me be a part of it and now he’s gone ... To be honest it is him but I can’t say that this curse of mine didn't play into it as well "
Doc: "You are not ******* cursed Mortll. You want to believe it... fine. Everything that ever goes wrong... you can lay on its door... maybe that gives you some sort of solace. But you are not ******* cursed." He sighed, "How can I make you see this? Maybe... you should look at the other side... that all those people think left you... they all gave you something. You are who you are today, because of them. And you like who you are.
Mortll: She smiled "Yeah, yeah, still doesn’t explain the huge mass of people ... Eternal life my *** seems to be a early grave for over half of us. " she paused looking at him steadily " Do you ever wonder what would have happened if you had chosen Differently?"
Doc: Doc gave her a serious look. "Yes. And you would have ended up hating me. And I didn't want that. I have a wife I can't stay faithful to. I have roaming eye. I am not saying it to be proud of it. I try to be faithful.. it works for a while.. but then.. I don't know.. I get tired of denying myself.. and why the **** should I not.." He sighed. "I like you too much to ever want you to despise me.
Mortll: She laughed I’ve tried hating you look where you're sitting I can't for some reason no matter how pissed off i get at you i just can't .... I don’t know what to do about it either"
Doc: Doc gave her a cheeky grin, "I am pretty hot for an old guy.. "
Mortll: "You aren’t a old guy and well i like what you have ... Still doesn’t answer my question of what am i going to do about it. " She leaned forward "I’ve thought about it a lot ... You weigh on my mind sometimes. "
Doc: "You need to be true to you. You have standards. I respect them. I support them. I think you are right to have them. But I would never be able to hold to them. At some point.. I would let you down. "
Mortll: You don’t know me as well as you think sometimes
Doc: "Maybe I don't.. But remember our agreement.
Mortll: "Yeah " She closed her eyes and took a deep breath she may not have needed to breath but it made her feel better. "I’m starting to think I’m meant to be alone ... I just can't be alone though, Not totally so what do I do about it? Something has to change ... and that is me."
Doc: Hearing her voice as she answered, he smiled, "Mortll. I got your package. Thank you. " He paused, should he ask now...or wait? Maybe she would broach the subject herself. "What is the occasion? Did I miss an important date…?"
