The tools of music (Open)

Post by Abigail Anderson (DELETED 8637) »

The little shop, tucked into a side alley of Harper Rock was something Abigail didn't expect to find. The small, cramped area stuffed with many different music instruments. Of course there wouldn't be as much diversity as in a big shop, or when browsing the net, but Abigail still preferred places like this. They had that homey feeling, that made one comfortable. All the different instruments, hanging at the walls and standing at the sides.

One thing in particular, an acoustic guitar, had captured her interest. It was a beautiful, dark brown coloured one. Though acoustic guitars weren't fitting for being in a band or similar things, they just had that nice feeling when played alone, maybe accompanied by voice. Especially when sitting at a camp-fire, this could create a nice mood. And besides, she already had an electric guitar, but no acoustic one since the old one broke when moving.

Abigail gave a glance over at her sister, which was checking something else a bit away. “Hey, Jess, what do you think about this one?” she called over to her, making sure she would be heard, but not be too loud.

As she heard her sisters voice, Jessica turned around and examined the dark brown guitar, Abigail pointed on. Well, Jessica already saw this one and she knew her sister would like to have it, so she just waited for her call. The guitar would be great for singing alone, “just with the harmonical sound of an old acoustic guitar” how her sister would say, but Abigail and Jessica, they made music together, as a band, since they were just little girls. And an acoustic guitar together with drums. This wouldn´t sound very nice, she thought. Besides Jessica doesn´t like this kind of music, these slow and quiet sounds. She loves loud drums, high voices and the sound of this great electric guitar, Abigail plays.
They didn´t have much money, because they just finished school, so they couldn´t buy several new instruments. Jessica preferred to buy something else. Something they really need.
But she knew Abigail wouldn´t accept this. She is very bullish. Just like Jessica. She knew, this would end in a discussion. Again.
She went over to her sister, who looked at her with big, hopeful eyes.
“Well, Abi, what do you want with this one. We don´t need it. We only have enough money to buy one new instrument. And this is not what we need for our band. You know?” she tried to explain her. Although she knew, Abigail wouldn´t understand.

Many of the instruments that Lancaster sold at Curlew were second-hand. Some were new. Most were pre-loved and refurbished, and Lancaster thought they were the best kind. They had history, and they had a rawer sound.

When the two girls walked in, Lancaster was standing at the counter. He half leaned, his hip against the counter top and one ankle crossed over the other. In front of him was a catalogue. A new one had come in the mail and he was making note of different items that the store might need, replacement products for the things that had been sold in the last couple of weeks.

Lancaster made a couple of notes before he flicked the catalogue shut, as well as the hair out of his eyes. Ever since he’d been turned, he could cut his hair and it would grow back within twenty-four hours. He gave up trying to groom the mop. He came out from behind the counter and approached the women.

”Can I help you ladies with anything?” he asked, lingering nearby while adjusting one of the instruments on the wall. He didn’t want to intrude; some people liked help, some people loathed it. As soon as they showed the slightest hint that they were alright browsing, he’d wander away again.
