Welcome to Harper Rock [Open]

Post by Ansley Underwood (DELETED 8056) »

Ansley grabbed the last box from inside the moving truck. The sun was beginning to sink behind the skyline setting the sky ablaze with vibrant. red, orange and pink hues. His amber colored eyes looked at the beautiful scene before he turned toward his new small one bedroom condo in an old brownstone building. He had just graduated from college and Harper Rock was where he decided to pursue his career as an investigative journalist. He planned on finding the city's seedy underbelly and exposing it to the light of day.

Ansley looked to be in his very early twenties , he was small of stature but fit. His hair was a warm ruddy brown. His eyes so hazel they were almost orange. His skin was a sun-kissed golden brown He was attractive and generally had a warm smile on his face this was true even as he carried the last arduous box over the threshold of his home. The condo was small and had this old building charm. Dark woods and lots of old paned windows. It even smelled old. His condo was a mess of boxes. He had to start looking for a job in the next week. He had hoped to get a job with one of the local newspapers , he had already submitted a handful of resumes and was waiting to hear back. He had the windows open and a cool breeze blew in moving the curtains Ansley had already hung up. He placed his desk right near a window that looked out over a small park, it would be there he would sit at his laptop and review evidence , compose his stories. The park lights started coming on as the sun began to set. Music played from a small dock that held his smart phone. and sat on the half bar that separated the kitchen from the living area.

Country music could be heard playing from the open windows, of his little ground level unit. Ansley was also singing along quietly. His voice was soft and pleasantly hoarse . It held a thick Texan twang that went well with the style of music. He sang as he unpacked. He was dressed comfortably for the moving day wearing a plain white v-neck t-shirt that fit snugly and low slung well fit worn and torn boot cut blue jeans. A silver cross dangling around his neck. He never took it off. He was despite being a homosexual was religious having grown up in Texas. He was a mess of emotions , excited , nervous. He continued to unpack boxes slowly, placing Items on shelves , sliding furniture around.

( Outfit )

As soon as that sun went down Kaspar found himself waking up nestled between the grounded roots of a large tree he was now all too familiar with. "Every damn day." The German rocker growled, kicking idly at the dirt like it deserved punishment. He hauled his tall frame up to standing, stretching out and looking over the new evening. How many days now had he woken in this same spot? The club where Eva had watched him fall limp to the ground with a fatal head wound was nearby, she'd carried him here to the park to cradle him under this tree and wait for her blood to start working it's miracle upon him.

It had, of course, and here he stood all 6'3" of him preserved for generations to come. The man rubbed at his messy blonde locks, artfully arranging them with a push of fingers, as he considered what shape his night might take. He had to feed at some point that much was obvious but he had a few options. Someone new? Someone reliable? Go wrestle a bear? Actually, he'd rather a mountain lion or wolf, bears were a bit much. He generally got his sustenance from some pretty young thing or other who had draped themselves over him, desperate to be taken home, to be loved by the fallen angel in leather. No, he wasn't really in the mood for that game tonight and besides he had things to attend to before he could have dinner.

Checking his pockets Kaspar found his phone, tugging it out to check for missed calls or messages. Of course there were a few, but one caught his attention. "Looking at apartments tonight, don't forget." Ah yes, the mother of his child was wanting to move somewhere more child friendly. Child friendly and Harper Rock didn't really go together but he had looked into a few apartment buildings that had both a higher number of human residences and lower number of gang scum occupying them.

This park was quite close to one of them, he'd agreed to meet her there half an hour after sunset to look at one of the larger apartments for sale. He gave a final little stretch, somewhat resembling a lion preparing for the prowl, and began to saunter down to the street. He had asked a few people about his strange condition, it wasn't unheard of for a vampire to wake up at the place of their turning, something drawing them but there but it was rare. No one had a solution for him, he'd even gotten into a routine surrounding it. Most days one of his companions would turn up to collect him, otherwise he would go and grab dinner for the human amongst them and take it back to the house they mostly occupied. It was his normal, but he was hoping for a cure.

Down on the street people were staring to head towards home, many of them in business attire and the last of the children rushing inside as the street lights came on. You rarely saw children outside after dark in Harper Rock, perhaps the odd rebellious teenager thinking they were too cool to believe in the monsters everyone whispered about it but few were willing to believe truly existed. He was one of those monsters, though he had no interest in making a meal of a teenager. As he approached the apartment building he heard soft music drifting from an open window, not his taste, but the voice accompanying it was pleasant enough. The son of rock god Nik Cherry and star in the making did however appreciate any finely played music, he tried to listen to as much as he could for inspiration, you never knew where it might be hiding. Even in a country song.

Kaspar was a sucker for music.

Perhaps a kind resident was playing it, one who he could charm and ask about the building. How they liked it? How was the neighbourhood? All of those stupidly mundane questions, all the while acting interested. It would certainly fill in the time before the woman he called "Wife" arrived. Finding the source of the music wasn't hard, and he paused at the doorway to listen a little longer. A man, he sounded young and possibly Southern but that could have been due to the country music he was singing. Kaspar always thought it amusing when people sang, how their accent would shift. His own sounded somewhat more British, as did his accent when he spoke English but most picked up on him being "European" of some description. Not wanting to hover, Kaspar finally raised his ring and tattoo wrapped knuckles to rap against the door, hoping to catch the attention of the man inside.

He placed a picture of him and his dad leaning against a classic red ford truck on a shelf touching it , a sad smile found his lips. Ansley ran a hand through his reddish brown hair and nibbled his lower lip looking around at the massive amount of boxes that still littered his condo. He exhaled deeply. Then came a gentle wrapping at his door. He cocked and approached the door. Small enough Texan town and he didn't even think about checking the peephole for security. Though Ansley wasn't the scare easy type. He opened the door and his eyes were meet with torso and pecs. His amber colored eyes traveled upward until they found Kaspar's face. He stood nearly a foot higher than Ansley himself. A slight glisten to his skin from the perspiration of moving in the hot sun. The silver cross dangling around his neck.

Ansley spoke then , his voice was a thick Texan twang indeed , is still had this soft pleasant hoarseness to it, like someone who was slightly losing their voice. He cocked his head and asked "Ohh umm well hey there. Ahm sorry is mah music botherin you. If it's too loud I dun' mind turnin' it down." He offered a sincere and surprisingly disarming smile. He used it like a finely tuned weapon, effortlessly. Maybe it was Southern hospitality, a proper upbringing. "I just moved in.". He gestured to the room full of boxes behind him. "You know how it is, music and laborious tasks." He said letting the sentence end there. His golden eyes looked the man over once more briefly. Trying to discern if he was a threat or what he might want? Ansley only guessed it was his music. Though looking at the 6'4 broad, blonde rocker before him he suddenly felt very very small town foolish. He mentally scolded himself briefly.

Kaspar's lips curled up into a broad grin, flashing his pearly whites at the shorter man. He was cute, sun warmed and sweet like a glass of Southern iced tea. He was suddenly very pleased that he had indeed decided to knock on the door and feed his curiosity. "Mmm, well aren't you adorable. No, no your music doesn't bother me though it isn't exactly my favourite kind. In fact it is what made me come up here, I was planning to hover outside and wait, i'm here to view one of the apartments." He gestured back out into the hallway, "I heard the music and it drew me in like a moth to the flame, music is my addiction." The man laughed, dropping a wink to the man whose doorway he was loitering in.

"I'm Kaspar, or Hel if you prefer. You new around here?" Kaspar offered his hand to shake, nodding to the boxes behind him. He was observant, and he certainly hadn't noticed the man around Harper Rock before, he wanted to believe he'd remember those golden eyes.

‹Ansley Underwood›

Ansley flushed, his cheeks turning red at the adorable statement. He faltered a little bit. He nodded "Yeah I just moved here today. From Texas." That explains the sun kissed warmth of his skin. The thick Texan twang. " This isn't my normal style either but I was listening to it because it reminded me of home. Is it strange I’m already homesick?" he laughed at himself. "Totally lame I know." He said looking down. "You’re moving in too?" He asked in regard to looking at the apartments. He leaned on the doorframe. He hadn't invited him in yet. Clever. He did however extend his hand to shake. "Nice to meet you Kaspar, my names Ansley, Ansley Underwood. " He said. There was something so genuinely wholesome about him.

<Kaspar>

Kaspar continued to smile warmly, accepting Ansley’s hand. “From Texas? Well, that’s quite a move I suppose.” He laughed at his calling it lame, Kaspar didn’t think so, he understand how it felt to be far from home. “I can appreciate that, if you hadn’t noticed I’m not exactly from around here either. Harper Rock is quite different to Germany, let me tell you!” Kaspar shook the warm hand in his far cooler, “Ansley, that’s a lovely name.” He paused with a little frown on his face, pulling his phone out to check for messages. “Well, we were supposed to be looking at one of the apartments but…”

He sighed, rubbing his hand over his face, he’d received a message informing him Will was too fussy and that she wouldn’t be able to make it. “Looks like it will just be me, unless a friend is around.” He wrote a quick text reply, and then opened a new message screen. He shot Jameson a text, “It’s just me looking at the apartment, want to come be cute, play house and tell me if you think it’s decent?” The man shoved his phone away, once more speaking to Ansley, “So what do you think of the building so far?”

‹Ansley Underwood›

He felt goose bumps raise up his skin and he nodded "Thank you, I like yours too." He said with a smile. He watched the man text briefly. " Your right Texas is far but its not Germany." He laughed some. "So seems as though your flying solo today then?" Ansley cocked his head, his warm honey pools sparkling a little in the yellow glow of the exterior lights. He nibbled his lower lip pensively as he pondered a response on the thoughts of his new abode. "Gosh, well, lets see. It’s got good floors, and these walls quality craftsmanship. Seems..." He knocks on the wall with a grin. "Sturdy." He said with a joking grin and a wink himself. "I'm not sure I qualify as an expert. Besides I’m not sure every unit comes with a handsome blond Viking knockin' on their door. So I say that’s a perk. “He laughs a warm rich sound. His voice kinda had this quality, like someone who had been cheering at a game for many hours. That kind of hoarse, not in a sick and smoker sort of way, but in a pleasantly husky, yet oddly soft tone.

<Kaspar>

Kaspar's brow went up, the man seemed intrigued by his lonely status, and he decided to press the advantage. "Looks that way, woe is little old me." He ducked his head, giving a bashful little smile, sucking his lower lip between his teeth as he pretended to be indecisive and shy, "Shame really." He watched the man knocking at the wall, remarking on the space and nodded along appreciatively.

"Sturdy walls are VERY important to me, I have a tendency to back things into them. You should ask my boy Jameson about that sometime.” He smirked briefly, his hand pushing up to brush black his messy blonde looks. “A handsome blonde Viking? Oh, that’s a new one... I like it. You think I should start a door-to-door service, hm? Mayor could hire me to be a part of the welcome basket, no?” He teased.

‹Ansley Underwood›

Ansley turns red again looking down. His ear tips going red as well. He wasn't sure what to say about that. The man didn't look the part of wanting a boy backed into anything. He floundered for a moment but recouped quickly stepping out he closed his door behind him. "I think that you might get spread a little thin, every welcome basket. You should be more selective." He said with a joking grin. “My papa always said nobody is gonna want the whole ice cream truck if your handin out the damn popsicles for free." He mocked his father’s tone shaking his head. "So you’re considering moving in here? Which unit?" He asked, "Was that your significant other, Jameson, and were you moving in here together." He asked unsure.

<Kaspar>

Tried hard not to laugh again at the effect he was having on the man, he’d become flushed and flustered, get the cutest little red ears. This one was wholesome, perhaps too wholesome for the likes of Kaspar to be messing with. “You’re right, I think I’m thin enough already!” He lifted the hem of his shirt playfully, tapping at his tone abdominal muscles. “You’re right, I’ll be more selective.” He stepped back a few paces, allowing Ansley plenty of room to move into the hallway. “Your Papa sounds a hell of a lot wiser than mine, half of his lyrics encourage people to live it up and get loose.” His eyes rolled upon mention of his rocker daddy, and he allowed himself to be distracted by the topic at hand.

“Here? Jameson?” He cleared his throat, a lopsided grin showing his amusement. “Ah, no, Jameson is… Oh, hell I guess he’s significant but I’m looking for a place with the Wife. She wants one of the bigger, ground floor apartments potentially, need two bedrooms. I wish she’d just let me get another house, but she wants something easier to maintain.” His lifestyle was confusing to most, and he was curious to see whether the man would question it or not.

He nods gently, "Oh wife ok..." Again unsure of what that meant. "You look really familiar to me. Let me guess, buy another house, your famous or something aren't you?" He was genuinely unsure. He liked music but he wasn't familiar. He was the singer/songwriter folk music type. He played the acoustic guitar himself as a hobby. "How long have you been married?" He asked, "If you want some company I’ll go peak at the two bedroom with yah, I could use a break."

<Kaspar>

“Bless your heart, you’re an innocent one aren’t you?” He smirked, leaning to nudge his shoulder to Ansley’s. “Not exactly, well… My band is fairly popular around here, locally I’m known but most people recognize me from the paparazzi photos with my father. Nik Cherry, famous rock star, famously a pain in my arse. I went through a stage of getting caught by cameras at some of the better parties.” The man shrugged at the other question, twisting the ring one his wedding finger. “We aren’t, it’s not like that we just… She’s my son’s mother, but our relationship is more of a supportive partnership than strictly romantic. It’s… My relationships are complicated, I suppose. A few people have shares in this delicious ice cream truck.”

He lifted a hand, brushing his thumb against his lower lip and chuckling quietly at the topic. Kaspar was trying to decide whether that was too much to tell a stranger, then again, he wasn’t particularly fussed what people knew about him. He was happy with his life. “Sure, come have a look with me, the landlord wasn’t expecting us for a while, though. I’ve got time to waste.”

‹Ansley Underwood›

He smiles some "I'm not that innocent, I guess ahm jus' ol' fashioned is all. It's silly I know." He bumped his shoulder back. "Well you’re a tall drink of water. I'm sure your investors are very happy in their ice cream." He grinned. He had a gentle way to him but there was a wit as well. A keen intellect that could be glimpsed in his eyes. “Time to waste huh?"

He said gently glancing back to his own condo. He seemed pensive and unsure. He glanced back to Kaspar "Did you have anything you wanted to do?" He asked though he wished he could withdraw the phrase. This man had moxy and charm. He was afraid of what the answer was gonna be. "I mean like are you hungry or somethin?" He said quickly not wanted to come across as though he was propositioning the man that was obviously not Ansley.

<Kaspar>

The man was very complimentary and it was obvious Kaspar made him nervous, which he liked. He was an egotistical son of a gun, and enjoyed the praise, enjoyed the subtle signals others gave when they were intrigued. "Well, you are very kind Ansley, I’m sure you'll make friends quickly." He followed the uncertain gaze, he didn't want to push him too far or he'd lose him to shyness.
"What do I want to do? Hmm... " He grinned at the quick correction, the suggestion of hunger. He was hungry, but for something he was quit convinced the man wasn't willing to provide. "Oh, I’m often hungry... Food, ahem, yes well there is a few cafes open around here and pubs. Could grab a drink, even, if you like. You can tell me more about you, we'll make friends, ja?"

‹Ansley Underwood›

He comes out after about 5-10 minutes and he is wearing a clean white V-neck t-shirt that fit snugly his form athletic but lean. He wore well fit and heavily worn boot cut blue jeans and at the cuff very worn brown , not overly western , cowboy boots peaked out. Adding just a little to his short stature. His legs were obviously well toned. Thicker muscle. A coppery brown leather jacket and the small silver cross around his neck. He smelled like clean laundry , soap and a little bit like vanilla. Not masculine , not feminine , just simple. He offered a wave. "I may have grown up in a barn but I don' have to smell like one." He said with a laugh and sorta perky bounce over.

<Kaspar>

Kaspar finished up his cigarette just as the man reappeared, exhaling the last of the smoke and tossing the butt into a bin. His eyes swept over Ansley, taking in the details, lingering on that little cross. Religious, perhaps, Kaspar couldn't be sure as he himself often wore crosses or religious symbols even though he didn't really believe anymore. Had he ever? Who knows. He lifted his frame once more, straightening up to move closer. He breathed in the man’s fragrance, acting if he were judging it.

"You don't smell like a barn at all, you smell like a man... A young, sweet, innocent one sure but a man." His own fragrance was far more woody, warm but with a freshness on top. Orange and ginger layered over warm amber and sandalwood, the hint of tobacco, bite of cedar and body warmed worn leather. Approachable, intriguing and yet somehow it was still subtle. You wanted to clean closer, take a deeper breath around the man. He turned towards the pub, pointing it out. It was only a block away, "Let me introduce you to your local, and grab you a drink. Do you drink, Southern Boy?"

‹Ansley Underwood›

He grins walking backwards in front of him. "Listen sugah , I can drink men bigger than you under a table an still kick their *** if they get outta hand." He said with a joking grin and bounce of his shoulders he fell back to walking beside him. "I appreciate this actually. I'm sort of giddy and up , its a good start to this new ....adventure. As cliche as that may sound." He grins his eyes squinting with the gesture, crinkling at the corners.

"Sugah?" He repeated, brows up but his laughter gave him away, he kind of liked it. The man seemed to think he was a great drinker, and while Kaspar himself had to be careful of overdoing it now, his body just didn't process things other than blood the same way, he didn't mind encouraging the other. "Oh ja, you trying to get me liquored up boy? We'll just see about that, I say we need proof." He took a few larger steps, picking up his pace to keep up with the excitable Ansley. His phone beep a message tone in his pocket, Hel pulling it out to find a rather amusing message from Jameson detailing some inappropriate activity or another, and telling Kas he can't meet up with him until later but encouraging him to get a taste of the deep south and report back. He glanced up at Ansley, smirking as he considered Jay's words and knowing that it was probably too ambitious, even for him. Plus, if he preyed on the poor, new resident of Harper Rock he might end his stay a little too prematurely. He'd wait and see if he enjoyed the others company before getting into too sticky a situation and resorting to blood shed.

As the approached the pub Kaspar took the lead, skirting around Ansley, letting his hand trail over the man's arm. "Now ease up, there, cowboy. Time for a drink and you can tell me all about what the hell you are doing moving from Texas to Harper Rock of all places, hm? What's your poison then? I'm pegging you as a whiskey man, maybe a beer? Tequila? Or are you all about things that sweet and fruity?" He teased, entering the pub and pointing out a pair of seats in a corner. "I'll grab the drinks, you grab the seats. What's your choice, cowboy?" He leaned against the bar, nodding to the bartender and grabbing out his wallet. "Your best whiskey, you know the one my friend, on the rocks today I need to cool off and a... "He trailed off, eyeing Ansley.

He grinned nodding gently. "Yeah sugah , sorry habit." He said turning a little red. Ansley really had no intention of getting obliterated in an attempt to drink Thor under the table. He just wanted to have a good time and yes perhaps make a friend. Ansley's skin goosebumps as the chill fingers sweep his warm skin. His heart quickens a few beats and he would swallow as they moved into the club. Silently he would scold himself to keep it together. He would move into the bar with Kaspar

When they approached the bar Ansley would grin at the guess at his drink . "I love whiskey currently i'm cravin' a Rusty Nail." That's a stiff old man drink for sure. Ansley just seemed to be full of surprises. He would smile to Hel now being referred to as a cowboy. "I shall go grab the table , Viking." He said with a playful nudge turning towards the one in the back he had indicated. He moved gracefully through the people. Surprisingly so. He was a dextrous little person it would seem. He pulled out his chair and took the seat his eyes moving to the city outside a light drizzle of rain began hitting the glass. The city lights were warped and distorted by the liquid droplets running down the windows surface.

The sound of the rain was drowned out by the din of the bar. He watched it run down the glass while he waited for Hel. He didn't want to call the man Hel it seemed , wrong. He was wearing a silver cross after all. Thinking on Kaspar his eyes would roam over to the man. The honey pools looking him over as if trying to discern something. It must be the investigative side of his nature that and of course attraction. I mean ... Ansley did have eyes. He felt his heart quicken a few beats again, he wasn't sure why. He turned his attention back to the window.

Kaspar blinked a bit, mouthing the words "Rusty Nail" under his breath, an interesting choice. While he'd been speaking for years it still took a while to pick up names of drinks, items and general colloquialisms in new places. Kaspar's time in Harper Rock had taught him some fun ones and years in bars, clubs and pubs around the world meant he had a fairly broad knowledge of drink names. He has had a talent for picking what a person might drink, if he was really in the mood to be a smug son of a gun he might've simply order for the man but asking was always safer. He would play polite, that little cross around the man's neck and his Southern sensibilities should be played into. Hel didn't want to scare away a potential friend, and by friend he obviously meant adoring fan.

Kaspar laughed as he ordered, "And a Rusty Nail, apparently. I'm hanging out with an old man, no? Also grab him a shot of the good stuff." He gestured to the whiskey that had already been placed in front of him. Once the drinks had arrived he delivered them to the table, borrowing a tray to make it easier. "A Rusty Nail for the handsome gentleman in the cowboy boots and a bonus shot of something with a little more bite, but still smooth, just like me! From your very own Welcome Wagon Viking." He'd teased, slumping down in one of the chairs near Ansley, body angled towards the other man. One of his arms draped over the back of his chair in a relaxed manner, the other picking up the glass before him. "To new adventures, new potential and new friends. Prost!" He raised his glass, wondering briefly whether the man would raise the rusty nail or the cheeky shot of whiskey he'd also been given.

Ansley looked away from the window with a warm smile as Kaspar returned to the table." It's raining now." he said. "I like the rain. I love laying in bed on a stormy day with the windows open so I can hear the rain and watching horrible movies. Nothing better" he said candidly looking to the shot and the other drink. "Thanks Kaspar." He said accepting both of them politely.

Ansley glanced down to the shot with a nod "It's like that then." He said with a crooked grin "Alright well thank you again." He would lift the shot of course because he was going to use the fairly strong drink he ordered as a chaser. He never really did shots. He wasn't a heavy drinker in general but he had been moving all day and it seemed like the perfect time to relax. Hel was charming. He seemed nice enough. Ansley had no intention of losing his wits to the man but he was new in town , so ...no harm, no foul. Ansley might be religious but he knew who he was and how to have fun. He was by no means rigid and tonight seemed like as good of a night as any to relax with some nice company.

Ansley clinked the shot glass to Hel's and smiles "Cheers" He said. "So Kaspar, how long have you lived in Harper Rock? Also if you want to ask me something feel free. I feel like I've been bombarding you with questions since you knocked on my door. It's not an interrogation." He grins jokingly.
