Start at the beginning

Post by Elighan (DELETED 7699) »

This RP takes place on Saturday 23rd January 2016.
Elighan: I’m tidying up my front room when the first message comes through. I thought Melete and I had sorted our difference out. I thought we’d left things in a good place. unfortunately I thought wrong, she obviously doesn’t believe that I care about her. That was obvious from the parting shot she left me with telling me I thought she was a hooker. I don’t remember thinking that but it’s possible, she was coming out of a cheap motel, wearing cheap clothing I wouldn’t dress I wouldn’t have used as a rag to wipe my car window. I type out my reply and then push my phone in my pocket. I need to forget about Adelita for tonight and concentrate on Caligrace; she deserves that much from me, this being our first date and all. The movie is queued up, I have a few alcoholic beverages even though I can’t drink and I bought some snacks, even though I can’t eat. I want Cali to feel at home in my apartment, especially since it’s so sparsely furnished.

Caligrace: She couldn’t remember the last time she had been on a date, unless she wanted to count being groped in the back of a minivan that reeked of stale cigarettes and bourbon. Clearly, class hadn’t been on her mind with Grant - she was going to blame the alcohol on that one. Tonight, though, tonight was different. Everything he did seemed to charm her, and she highly doubted he would lead her into something as disgusting as a roach infested van. Crinkling her nose at the memory, she quickly dusted a hand down the front of her dress, the thin emerald cotton offering her little shelter from the wind. “Focus, Caligrace,” she chided herself as she reawakened her phone to glance at the address. It seemed to be the right building, but as she had found in the past, looks could be deceiving.

Bracing herself for bothering a stranger, she skipped up the steps and found his apartment number, her knuckles tapping against the door twice.

Elighan: I hear the knocking at the door and I swear my heart skips a beat. I’m suddenly very nervous, far more nervous than I should be considering I’ve spent a fair amount of time with Cali already. She’s a lovely girl and as much as she reminds me of Melete, she’s also very different; the main way being the fact that she seems to actually like me and the attention I pay her. I tell myself to play it cool as I wipe my hands off on the front of my beige chinos and then straighten the collar of my light blue shirt. I pull the door open and smile. She’s far too pretty for the likes of me, but I don’t think she’s figured that out yet. “Please come in. You know I was a little worried you might get lost on your way here,” I tease as I take her hand and lead her inside. I kiss her knuckles and smile at her. “I’m so very happy to see you Cali. I hope you didn’t have any trouble finding my apartment.” The open plan apartment shows off my tastes perfectly, even though I haven’t lived here long. Every piece of furniture is top of the line and functional. The tones warm and inviting, and obviously lacking a feminine touch. “You look very pretty.”

Caligrace: Taking a step back, she casts a glance down the corridor as she tucks a stray scarlet curl behind her ear. Panic built in her chest with each second that creeped by, and she found herself on the verge of turning around. Had she come to the wrong place? Was he even home? Had he forgotten? It wasn’t like her to doubt herself, yet she’d only barely learned to keep her emotions in check since her death. Just as she was about to spin on her heel, the door opened, and relief flooded her at the sight of him. With a grin, she scanned her eyes over him and shook her head. “Handsome as usual,” she smiled as his lips brushed across her knuckles. “It wasn’t too hard,” she lied, though the look in her eyes spoke the truth. “Only a few wrong turns. A new record for me, really.” Her laughter was light as she turned to inspect the apartment before focusing back on him. “I like it. It really fits you,” she smiled, before leaning up to kiss his cheek. “Miss me?”

Elighan: “More than I should admit,” I reply, accepting the chaste kiss she gives me. “And I think I’m going to have to do something about your lack of direction. It worries me that you walk this city alone and seem to be so easily turned around. Do you have a map app on your mobile?” This was a question I may have asked before and likely should have had an answer to already. It would be odd for a person in this day and age not to have a working map app on their mobile but anything is possible. I’m not entirely sure how proficient she is with technology, so it’s possible she has an app but doesn’t know how to work it. “Would you like to take a seat?” I ask as I gesture to the soft covered, tan coloured sofa.

Caligrace: “That might be so, but I love to hear it.” Her smile was warm as she winked at him, before she crinkled her nose at his question. She remembered his lecture from the first night they met, and she knew she should have done something to alter her issue - but she hadn’t found the time. Lifting a shoulder, she gave a sheepish smile as she shook her iPhone in his direction. “It’s one here, but I always forget I have it until it's too late. I found myself in the Slums the other day. They were just as surprised as I was, I think.” With another soft laugh, she tugged on her lower lip with her teeth, the glossed flesh barely disturbed by the abuse. Why was she so nervous? It seemed she couldn’t get her mind to shut down as her eyes danced from each piece of furniture before finally taking a step towards the couch at his suggestion. As she slid onto the seat, she rested her bag on the floor, her fingers sliding along the zipper to make sure it was securely closed.

Elighan: “Next time I’m going to text you and remind you about the app,” I say as I walk towards the kitchen area. “Can I get you anything to drink?” I ask. I know she’s capable of eating and drinking and I’ve tried to be considerate of that fact tonight. I should ask her what her habits are when it comes to human appetite and whether or not alcohol can affect her, but I figure I have time enough to do that. I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket and pull it out to see who or what it is. It’s an email from Melete. I click it open and sigh in frustration; I swear that woman would argue that the sky is green if I told her it was blue. I type out my reply, glancing up at Cali as often as I can so she knows that I’m not ignoring her and that I would in fact like to get her something. “I’m sorry. It’s Adelita. My meeting with her went as well as can be expected and I thought we’d found some common ground and then…” I sigh and run a hand through my hair before completing my reply and hitting send.

Caligrace: Leaning back in her seat, she carefully tugged at the hem of her dress before crossing her legs at the knee. Her heel dangled expertly from her toe, and as he moved to the kitchen, she began to tap it idly. It was a nervous habit, one that her best friend begged her to quit on a nightly basis, but she had yet to control it. The muscle memory was far too comforting when she was in a situation that she wasn’t accustomed to. “Yes, please. Just surprise me,” she smiled, though her gaze had dropped to his phone. For a moment, she worried she had bored him already and then quickly shook off the notion. She wasn’t overly-confident, but she was sure in her presence with him. When he spoke his apology, she frowned. “I’m sorry, Elighan. I know you were hoping to work things out. I hope she gives you a break before too long.” Laughing quietly, she dropped her hands to her lap, fingers absently sliding along her dress. “I wish there was something I could do for you.”

Elighan: “When it comes to Melete,” I begin, correcting her name as I step up the fridge, “Adelita, that is, I don’t think there is anything anyone can do. I don’t wish to insult the fairer sex while you are sitting so prettily on my sofa, but she can be quite stereotypical inasmuch as that I swear she only hears what she wants to hear. I’m sure I’m speaking in plain English and that I cannot possibly be misunderstood and yet everything I say is wrong.” I pull out a bottle of champagne, unwrap the foil and pop the cork. I don’t do anything flash, as that tends to waste the precious liquid inside, I simply grip the cork, turning the bottle and ease the cork out. I have a few bottles of white wine in the fridge, a few bottles of red in the built-in wine rack and some fresh orange, but champagne is a far better start to the evening and even though I can’t drink it, I can appreciate the bouquet. I take a fluted glass out of the cabinet and begin to fill it as I think aloud. “Though she is Mexican, so perhaps some of what I say does get lost in translation.” I already know that’s not right though, Adelita is well educated and speaks fluent English; the problem lies not in what I say, but in what she wants to believe is true. She likes to vilify me.

Caligrace: As she moved her fingers once more through her hair, she tried to force herself to sit still. Her hands dropped once more to her lap, and she curled one around the other as she turned her gaze back to his when he spoke. She didn’t say anything until she was certain that he was finished with the first part of his tirade, and even then, she gave a brief pause before chuckling. “Well, to be fair, us women do have a tendency to be like that,” she teased him, her voice light to show she found no insult in his statement. “Of course, I can’t speak for all of my gender, not all of us are impossible. Just a fair amount.” Biting into her lower lip again, she tilted her head. “She’s your sire, so she doesn’t have much of a choice, right? She’ll have to come around eventually, once things settle down.” She had no idea why she was defending the woman - maybe she wasn’t. Maybe she just wanted to reassure him, to ease that dark look that had come over his eyes when he spoke of her. Whatever it was, she found herself relaxing as she patted the couch. “Come on, handsome, join me?”

Elighan: I finish pouring the champagne, retrieve a stopper for the bottle from my drawer and then put the bottle back in the fridge before taking the flute to Cali in the living area. I hand the glass over and smile. “If you are to become a regular visitor in my home sweetness, you may need to tell me what it is that you actually like to drink.” It’s a little presumptuous perhaps to say this now but I am cautiously optimistic and I want Cali to know that. “It might be best if we try not to talk about Melete for now.” I walk over to the coffee table and pick up the remotes I require to play the film. I seat myself next to Cali and smile at her. “If you don’t like the champagne Caligrace, please don’t drink it just to be polite, I’ll be more than happy to get you something else.” I tell her this because it’s the truth. Everyone has different tastes and just because I like it, doesn’t mean she will. She needs to know that I want her to be happy and that I won’t be insulted if she doesn’t want to drink what I’ve given her.

Caligrace: Smiling as he finally stepped towards her, she gently took the drink from his hand and brought it down to eye-level. Surprise flickered in her gaze - she hadn’t exactly been paying attention to what he had poured - and she smiled. “Want to keep me around, handsome?” Her voice was soft as she took a sip from the glass, the crisp, clean taste causing her to smile in delight. She preferred champagne over wine, the carbonation a comfort as it burned the back of her throat. With practiced ease, she balanced the flute on her knee, her fingers subtly grasping the stem. “Non-alcoholic? It would be Dr. Pepper,” she laughed, her eyes sparkling with light as she spun her glass around. “Alcoholic, I’m fine with the champagne, though I like fruity cocktails. The only alcohol I won’t touch is whiskey, however. I have a bad memory of my first time.” Taking another sip from her drink, she lifted her gaze to his and smiled warmly. “You have amazing taste,” she admitted, her manicured nail tapping the edge of the flute.

Elighan: “I like to think that’s true,” I say, winking at Cali. I think she understands my words have a double meaning and that I mean I had great taste in choosing her. Anyone that had met Melete on a bad night might disagree with that, but I accept that woman for all that she is, faults included, it’s just too bad that I don’t think she does. “I’ll make sure to get some Dr. Pepper for next time,” assuming there is one. I hope there will be, but the night is early yet. “I’m glad you like the champagne, it’s one of my favourites, or was, before I became what we are.” The information won’t help her in any way but she should know a little of who I was, as well as who I am, especially since who I am now is something I am still trying to figure out.

Caligrace: Laughing at his words, she shook her head as she swirled the liquid around the glass. She watched it for a second, allowing the motion to soothe her nerves before she looked back towards him. She wished she could say she wasn’t always this nervous, but she couldn’t. Her mind never seemed to take a break, and it constantly jumped from one awful conclusion to the next. However, in his presence, it did seem to dull quite a bit, and she finally managed to relax the tensions in her muscles with another sip. “You will. I can get testy without my caffeine,” she admitted, her tone serious as she shifted in her seat to face him better. “You can’t drink? I mean, I’ve heard that others…” she trailed off, before biting into her lip. “I couldn’t imagine it.” She didn’t know what else to say to it, and so she smiled and motioned to the remotes. “What did you decide on for us, handsome?”

Elighan: I offer her a smile, but it doesn’t quite meet my eyes. “No. Unfortunately the night I was turned, I lost my ability to consume food and beverages. It’s a real shame too, as there were more than a few things I was particularly fond of, and drinking was one of the few vices I actually allowed myself.” I shrug off the negativity that comes with that reply and gesture to the television. “I thought I would try you with a classic action flick. I’m not above watching a rom-com if that’s what my date, or more recently my sister, desires but I’d like to at least try to hold on to the hopefully perceived notion that I am in fact masculine in some ways.” I chuckle at my self-deprecation. “Have you seen Demolition Man before?”

Caligrace: As he smiled, she did her best to keep the same soft, serene expression on her face. It was hard, however, knowing that he wasn’t completely in the moment with her. At first, she couldn’t figure out what it could have been to cause the light to dim from his eyes, but when he began to speak, she thought she had figured it out. Way to go, Caligrace, upsetting the poor thing. Shaking her head, she reached out and curled her fingers around one of his hands and squeezed lightly before shrugging it off. She wouldn’t continue the topic - and instead, focused on the title of the movie. “No, handsome, I can’t say that I have,” she laughed, before adjusting herself on her spot on the couch. “I wouldn’t worry, though, you seem manly enough to me,” she teased, hoping to ease some of the tension in the air.

Elighan: I fiddle with the controls and start the movie. I’ve just settled back into the couch when my phone buzzes. I reluctantly pull it out of my pocket and read the latest reply. Melete honestly is insane is she thinks I didn’t fight for her. I did everything I could think of to make her happy and it was never enough. I type out my reply and pretty much tell her that too. She needs a reality check, and as far as I can tell I’m the only one willing to give it to her. She is right about one thing though, I should be paying attention to Cali. I smile at the female next to me. I’m really don’t want to blow tonight but at the same time I can’t let Adelita think that no-one cares about her. “I’m sorry Caligrace. I wouldn’t reply if I didn’t have to. It’s Melete again.” She has the right to know what I’m up to since I am supposed to be concentrating solely on being here with her. The movie I don’t much care about, as I can pick that up at any point, as I’ve seen it many times before.

Caligrace: Running her tongue along the soft skin of her lower lip, she watched as he stood and headed for the television. She remained quiet, simply content in watching him as he prepared the movie. She couldn’t remember the last time that she had simply been with someone. Most men she opted to go on dates with had one thing only on their mind and barely waited until the glass was empty before making it known, but Elighan was… different. It was the only word she could use to describe him. As the music played from the speakers to signal the beginning of the movie, she settled back into her seat and offered him a smile, but before she could say a thing, his phone was out. Again? Frowning in concern, she tucked a curl behind her ear before smiling. “Are you sure everything is alright?” Her question was quiet as she studied his expression, before turning her gaze back to the movie for a brief second.

Elighan: I run my hand through my hair. I’m not sure how to answer Cali. I thought everything was alright when I left Melete, but now. Now things are back to how they always are. This is pretty much normal for us. “Let’s try not to let her ruin our night. Okay? I’m sure she’ll be fine. I just don’t like to ignore her, especially when she has the wrong idea in her head.” Unfortunately that’s par for the course with Melete. She often thinks things that aren’t true, but you can’t tell her otherwise. Once she’s gotten an idea or a thought into her head, it’s very difficult if not impossible to shift it. I rest my phone on my knee, fully expecting another reply to come through any moment, as I drape one arm around Cali and pull her closer to me. This is where I want to be. Trust Melete to find a way to make my life hell even when she isn’t physically in the same room.

Caligrace: Biting into her lower lip, she studied him in silence for a few seconds before finally nodding her head. “She’s not going to ruin anything, handsome,” she smiled, hoping that her voice was reassuring as she leaned up and brushed a kiss across his cheek. The stress he was under was easy to discern in the lines of his face, and she found herself contemplating the thousand ways that she could ease his mind. When she realized that she couldn’t choose just one, she settled for resting her head against the crook of his shoulder as her eyes gaze remained fixed on the screen. However, she barely registered what was happening - she was too in tuned to the feel of his body against hers, and the way his arm locked her comfortably into his side.

Elighan: I place a tender kiss to the top of Cali’s head. She’s a very special person. That much is easy to see already. I pride myself in being able to read people but even I can make mistakes. I’m glad not to be wrong about her. We fall into a comfortable silence as the film plays on. Then the inevitable buzz of my phone pulls my attention from the screen. The reply is short and sweet, with all the usual bite that means I’ve really pissed the woman off. I manage to read the reply without bothering Cali, at least that’s what I hope, but in order to reply I have to extricate myself from her. Something I do reluctantly. “My last message must have really upset her,” I inform the angel at my side, “as she’s calling me names in Spanish now.”

Caligrace: It seemed like forever before she was finally able to relax again, that faint twist of nerves in her chest easing. Every noise she heard, she thought it was his phone vibrating with yet another worrisome message. She wasn’t concerned with the quantity of the texts he was receiving, but the quality. Each message seemed to darken his eyes a little more, and she found herself wishing she knew a way bring the light back into his smile. Running her fingers over his knee in absentminded gesture, she had finally begun to truly focus on the movie when he spoke once more. With a smile, she pushed herself upright and ran her fingers through her hair, hoping to untangle some of the crimson curls as she raised a brow. “I don’t see how you can be such a bother, handsome, you’re nothing but charm,” she laughed as she tucked herself back into his side.

Elighan: The next half hour passes in pretty much the same way and by the time Melete and I have come to understanding (and she’s more or less agreed not to flee the country), I’m almost certain that Caligrace has the patience of a saint. If the situations had been reversed, I’d almost certainly be a little annoyed by her lack of attention to the here and now. With this in mind I pause the film. This isn’t exactly the sort of thing one should be explaining on a first date, but I think she more than deserves some sort of explanation and if I’m going to talk about Melete, I may as well explain it all in one go. I don’t want her to have any reason to doubt me going forward. That is if she chooses to ever see me again. “Would you mind if we take a small break from the film?” I ask, turning my body a little more in her direction. “You’ve been ever so kind to me so far by not calling me out for emailing another woman while you’re so comfortably seated next to me and I think you deserve to know the full story of my relationship with my sire. If you would like to hear it that is.”

Caligrace: They had lapsed into a comfortable silence, and so when he spoke, it shocked her. Clearing her throat, she pushed herself up from his side and offered him a smile, her eyes bright as she waved towards the television. “Go ahead, handsome. I’m having a hard time concentrating, anyway,” she smiled before leaning over to grab her half-empty glass of champagne. Twisting the stem between her fingers, she brought it up to her painted lips for a sip and tilted her head. “What do you mean, your relationship? I mean, I think I get it. She’s your sire, right?” She trailed off then as she tried to analyze what he could have meant by the ‘full story’. She prided herself on being intelligent in most cases - yet, relationships were rarely one of them. However, she wasn’t about to jump ahead of herself, and instead she focused her full attention on him, her glass resting easily in the palm of her hand. “Of course I want to hear, Elighan, it seems to be important to you.”

Elighan: I nod, but the action is more one to allow me the time to try and phrase my next sentence correctly. “Yes. It is important to me. Because Melete is important to me. She’s my sire and my friend, and, in all honesty, she’s the main reason I returned to the city.” I haven’t explained that I left for several months to help my sister but I will do that if it’s necessary. Which it might in fact become, once I start explaining my relationship with Melete to her. “But before I left you see, our relationship was, well… complicated.” I pause to see if Cali can understand what I’ve left unspoken. I plan to clear everything up for her, I just need a moment to work out exactly how best to phrase it.

Caligrace: As he spoke, she could find nothing in his words to associate with the stress in his eyes. Her relationship with her sire, though not always perfect, was exactly how he explained his - friends. However, she could tell that there was something he was holding back, something that was causing him complications when he tried to speak. Sighing quietly, she reached out and curled her fingers with his, giving his hand a small squeeze as she smiled. “I’m glad that she gave you reason to return,” she began, before her words suddenly faltered. That’s my girl. Everything he said began to click into place, and she glanced down to their intertwined fingers. “Complicated.” It was the only word she spoke, and yet, it spoke volumes. Despite the information that he had left in the silence between them, she remained still, her thumb brushing over his knuckles as she waited for him to follow the cue in her tone and continue.

Elighan: I know she’s putting the pieces together when she repeats the last word I spoke. The hand holding hers, squeezes it tenderly. I like the contact I have with her it’s reassuring but that doesn’t stop me from rubbing at the back of my neck with my free hand. I take a fortifying breath and begin my explanation. “Please believe me when I say that I don’t wish to go back to the way things were with Melete before I left. It’s important I start by saying this, in case anything I say by way of explanation makes you feel otherwise. What we have, you and I, is new and delicate and I don’t wish for it to end before it’s begun because I chose my words poorly. But…” I drop my other hand to my lap, now cupping her hand within my own. “As I’m sure you’ve already worked out; Melete and I did date one another before I left the city.” There’s more to be said, more I need to explain but I pause there to allow her the time to take in what’s been said so far. I don’t want her to get lost at any point in our conversation and I want to make sure she has the time to voice any questions and concerns she might have, even if she doesn’t have all the information yet.

Caligrace: The connection of their skin seems to be the only thing keeping her in place. He had barely started speaking, and she could already feel that unfamiliar storm begin to brew in her chest. Calm yourself, girl, it’s nothing. Releasing a quiet breath, she kept her gaze on his, a brow raising in silent question as she scanned his features. He seemed to genuine, so nervous. She wasn’t the best judge of character, but she could tell that whatever he wanted to say mattered. He wanted her to hear him, and not get caught up the anxiety of her mind. “Oh,” she began, though the word seemed far too inadequate for what was really on her mind. “You dated, of course. Everyone has a past,” she continued on, though her smile was uncertain as she squeezed his hand for him to continue. Something told her it was more than a fling, and she found herself needing to hear it as much as he seemed to need to say it.

Elighan: She seems to require some sort of reassurance and while I did just tell Melete that if she went to Mexico I’d have to follow, I have try and make Cali understand the relationship that Melete and I have, in the hopes that Cali and I can forge our own and move forward. I have to admit that I was trying not to think about a future with Cali too much, as its early days, but she’s not here because I want to string her along and make Melete jealous and I certainly don’t want a one night stand. I tenderly brush the backs of my fingers over her cheek. “Allow me to start from the beginning sweetness and then perhaps you’ll understand why I would never again willingly date the woman that sired me. That door is irrevocably closed. I can promise you that.” I raise her hand, the one I’m still holding, to my lips and press my lips to it, before I look her in the eyes to see if she’ll give me the chance I possible don’t deserve.

Caligrace: Using her free hand to brush her hair out of her face, she tucked a single curl behind her ear and watched him as he spoke. She had never been one to be able to tell when she was being played, but something about the look in his eyes reassured her. She wanted to tell him that it was alright, that she didn’t need to know - but she found herself remaining quiet. After a long second, she released the hold on her lip and brushed her tongue over the abused flesh. It’s important to him, she reminded herself before finally squeezing his hand once more. “I’m all yours,” she smiled, this time with a touch more of the warmth she had previously lacked.

Elighan: Oh if only that were true. This woman spells trouble for me and I know it. Thankfully her kind of trouble I might actually be able to handle. “Melete and I met when I was hired to follow her and find out what she was up to. I won’t bore you with the details, but she put me in a situation where I compromised my ethics in order to protect her. I would of course, prefer you not tell anyone this fact, as my business is built upon my reputation and people have to be able to trust what I tell them.” I squeeze her hand gently, in the hopes that she’ll understand that I’m not just being overly cautious by saying this. “Of course she’d never admit that she needed my help and I framed my offer in such as way that she could believe that she would be of some use to me too. Which honesty she was. Not with that articular business, but with another. Her father has quite a reputation in certain circles and to be able to pick the brain of someone that was brought up in the criminal underworld was quite the opportunity for me.” I clear my throat, aware of the fact that I’m being vague. I can’t name names, as it’s not my place to do so; so once again, I suppose I’m protecting a woman that I sometimes believe might actually hate me.

Caligrace: “I feel like I’m going to need more champagne,” she laughed, though the sound was off. It didn’t hold the usual softness to it, and instead, it betrayed the wariness she was feeling. The story he had begun to weave sounded as if it were being read straight from the pages of one of her treasured novels. A woman in trouble, a man hired to find the truth. It was all too romantic, and she was beginning to regret asking him to continue. Yet, there was a small portion of her that needed to know how their story ended. How can you assume it’s over? Shaking the thought away, she trailed her finger along the rim of her glass, not really wanting the drink - and instead, she rested back into her seat, her fingers toying with her dress.

Re: Start at the beginning

Elighan: I take her glass from her, lean over and kiss her n the temple, even though it might be dreadfully inappropriate for me to do that right now. “Whatever you desire sweetness.” And just like that I’m standing to fetch her another glass of champagne. I continue my story as I pour. “Melete told me she didn’t enter into relationships lightly, or rather ever, and I told her I didn’t entertain one night stands. Though this conversation came after she’d all but moved in with me and we were sharing a bed. Platonically. She needed a place to stay and since I am more than capable of sharing a bed with a woman without taking advantage of her, I refused to be relegated to my own sofa. You see, her moving in with me wasn’t something I ever actually offered. If you ever meet Melete, you’ll soon come to learn that she’s rather…” I search for the right word but there really isn’t one that describes her properly. In the end I go with, “feisty.” I groan as I say it. They didn’t come out right. Bossy and domineering may have been better choices. “I mean to say that once she decides something, she’s rather obstinate, and well, she decided pretty quickly that my apartment was hers and I didn’t have the heart or a good enough reason to make her believe otherwise.”

Caligrace: She had forgotten that she’d asked for the drink up until the moment he was taking it from her. The brief show of affection had her stunned, but she realized it wasn’t entirely unwelcome. Despite what he was telling her, he was still the same man he was when they first met - just with a past. As he moved to the counter, she leaned forward in her seat, her fingers combing through her hair to pull the long, rather infuriating curls over her shoulder. In any normal situation, she should be out the door and out of his life, and yet, she found herself refusing to move. This wasn’t a normal situation, and he wasn’t a normal man. You’ve said that before, remember? At the bitter memory, she straightened up and tugged on the hem of her dress, straightening them over her thighs. “Feisty,” she repeated, her gaze snapping to his at his groan. “That’s how every girl wants to hear their date explain their ex.” Laughing quietly, she rested back against the couch and crossed her leg at the knee, her gaze locked on his. “So, you saved her and she dominated you into sharing your bed. Damn, that girl has moves,” she muttered, before going silent so he could continue on.

Elighan: “That’s not the worst of it,” I blurt out before I have a chance to stop the thought from making its way out into the world. I’m not sure she wants to hear about my sex life but it is a part of the story, she may as well learn it all. At least then if she runs, I’ll know there really was no hope for us, as I can’t change my past; though oddly I’m not sure I’d honestly want to. “The first time she and I… had intercourse,” I explain as I make my way back with a freshly filled glass of champagne for the ever so patient Caligrace. “I wasn’t exactly a willing participant. Well I was. But I wasn’t. She used one of her seductive powers on me.” * That sounds bad, very bad, and in some ways it was, but it wasn’t like I wasn’t attracted to Adelita, I was just adamant that I didn’t want to be someone she used to scratch an itch. “I promise I wouldn’t tell you all of this if her sexual predilections were not a huge part of what will keep me from ever falling back into a romantic relationship with Melete. This is all very heavy for our first official date but since Melete is an important part f my life and will continue to be so, you should know what our history is, so that you can better understand the dynamics of the relationship we have now.”

Caligrace: “I’m sure it isn’t,” she replied drily. The tone seemed so off for the usual warm redhead, that even to her own ears, she seemed like a stranger. Brushing the palm of her hand down her thigh, she shook her head. She couldn’t understand the feeling twisting inside of her chest, but she knew that she didn’t like it. It was…uncomfortable... to say the least. She wanted it to end. Reaching her hand up, she curled her fingers around the glass, her lips parted to thank him - before they snapped closed. Before she knew what had happened, she was on her feet, and the delicate stem glass was a second away from snapping in her hand. “Let me get this straight,” she began, her voice rather controlled despite the emotions in her eyes, “she forced her way into your home - into your bed, but that wasn’t enough. No, she had to manipulate you into have sex with her, and you still keep her around.” Closing her eyes for a minute, she took a deep breath to soothe the anger that burned her chest, and instead, focused on taking a rather large sip from her flute. “The same woman that you were texting, while on a date with me. Did I miss any points, Elighan? Please, if not, do continue.” Despite it all, she found herself unable to walk away from him. The need to smack sense into him warred with the need to embrace him and fix whatever his ex had broken.

Elighan: I try to extricate the glass from Caligrace’s now not so delicate task so that I can set the flute on the coffee table. “Please Cali. You have to know the bad, with the good. I would very much like a second date with you, and a third, and fourth, etc. But we cannot have a relationship of the kind I’m hoping for if you fear there’s anything more between Melete and I now than friendship. And the woman can honestly be so demanding, that it is entirely possible that you would get the wrong idea if you haven’t already. So please.” I take both her hands in my own. “Please will you listen to the rest of my story with an open mind.” I neither confirmed or rebuffed any of the points she made. They were all true and it was an accurate summary of what I’d told her so far, even if it wasn’t painting Melete and I in the best light.

Caligrace: The second the flute was out of her hand, she found the urge to grab something else. She had always possessed a temper - though no one would have ever believed it from looking at her. She was too small, too adorable, too innocent - and yet, she could burn the world to ash if pushed. It had only gotten worse after her transformation, when the emotions would grip her so tightly that she would forget the truth of who she was. Even now, she felt it rip apart her insides, and it was only when he grabbed her hands and forced her gaze to his that she found some sort of relief. Releasing a quiet breath, she bit into the corner of her lip and studied his expression, so earnest and pure, and knew that she couldn’t deny him. “Of course, Elighan,” she conceded, her thumb brushing across the back of his knuckles before she nodded. She didn’t want to walk away from him, and so she remained still, her hands trembling every so often from a rush of anger as it pulsed through her veins.

Elighan: “Thank you Caligrace,” I smile at her, glad for the fact that she hasn’t run screaming from my apartment yet. “You need to know that to some extent I knew I would never be able to keep Melete. She and I are too different. But after a time we found a way to make our relationship work. For a short time at least. She promised to try to be faithful and I promised to try to be more the sort of man she required.” I smile and shake my head. “We were heading for disaster before we’d even begun, you see. For attraction means very little when there are such differences in ones values.” If at all possible, Caligrace looks all the more attractive with a little fire in her eyes, but then again, I have always had a thing for feisty women. “I agreed to do some crazy things while I was with her in an attempt to keep her happy. But none of it worked. And then one day she just left. I thought we were just arguing, like we usually did and that she needed time to calm down. Which is essentially what she told me at the time, that she needed space from me. What I didn’t know was that that space meant her being with someone else and when she finally returned home a week or so later, it was to tell me she’d taken part in some vampiric wedding and that she was leaving me.” I stumble a little at the end, rushing to say the words because the betrayal still hurts. But it’s said and done and I’ve moved on, and I’m hoping that Cali will see this.

Caligrace: She had known the moment she agreed to listen to him, that she was going to hate whatever it was that he had to say. She had held onto a small thread of hope that he would say something - anything - to redeem the woman that had turned him, to give her some grain of decency - but he hadn’t. Instead, he made that fire ignite in her eyes, and before she had realized her actions - she had shoved away from him, her hands slamming into her hair. “Everyone has a past, Elighan, but you’ll have to excuse me when I say that yours is truly screwed up.” She knew what he had to be thinking, and she couldn’t deny that her gaze snapped to the door the moment she finished speaking. Instead of heading for it, however, she turned back to him and shook her head. “She took advantage of you, she cheated on you, and you still texted her while with me.” She knew that it wasn’t fair, she knew that she had no real claim on him - but it still bothered her. “I mean, it was bad enough that you were on the phone while with me, but I’m a patient girl. I thought she was nice. I had no idea she was such a…[/i]” Trailing off, she bit into her tongue to stop from spewing insults that she would later regret.

Elighan: Her reaction startles me and at first I think she’s annoyed at me, but the more she speaks, the more I thinks she’s annoyed for me. It’s a rather important distinction. Not that the fiery redhead isn’t just a little annoyed at me to; something she has every right to be. “I’ve only told you the worst I’m sure. But I had to tell you that so you would know that that was it for me. That was my line. I can forgive a great many things Caligrace but being unfaithful isn’t one of them. Not when she promised she would end things with me before it ever came to that. And yes. I should have perhaps ignored my emails but she…” I sigh, wanting to reach out and grab the woman before but fearing to do so. “She’s rather dramatic. Please understand me when I defend the woman and not her actions. As like many of the fairer sex, she quite insecure beneath all that fire and confidence. My emails to her just now had her threatening to run away to Mexico to be rid of me. Please Caligrace. I do not wish to argue with you or have you think badly f me, but when it comes to Melete… No… that isn’t right, when it comes to people in general, I accept them for who they are. I know her faults and I have learned to live with them. I love her, but I am not in love with her. She needs me, even if she does her best to push me away at every turn. When I left, I left her with barely a word. I transferred her some money and I sent her a brief email. Then I didn’t talk to her for several months. I came back to the city because I had to, because she deserved more. I knew that she’d hurt me, so you see… I only have myself to blame. And I returned to find the woman I knew living in my old apartment, divorced, for want of a better term. She’d needed me and I hadn’t been there for her. In her eyes I proved myself untrustworthy and so now… now she’s seeking to test me.”

Caligrace: She couldn’t begin the find the line that she had so easily been tipped over. One moment, she was telling herself to calm down, and the next, she had the flute in her hand - at least, what was left of it. The rest was in shatters at her feet, and her blood was steadily dripping from her fingers as the champagne stained his face and shirt. She barely felt the burn as she shook her head, the anger not at all easing. “I get that you’re a wonderful guy, Elighan, that’s what drew me to you - but you’re defending her after…” Snapping her teeth together, she curled her wounded hand into a fist, only to feel a bit of glass bite into her palm. “I’m an understanding girl, but even I have my limits. You just dropped a lot onto my plate, and all I can think right now, is what in the world could possibly be wrong with you.” Shaking her head, she stepped forward, the glass crunching beneath her heels as she neared him, her eyes blazing bright. “You let her use you, manipulate you, and when you have a good, honest woman in front of you, you still opt to protect her. If she wants to flee to Mexico, let her! I bet she’d come right back because you, Elighan? You’re not easy to walk away from.” With a soft laugh, she motioned towards the door. “I should know. I should be nothing but a memory, but here I am.” The anger seemed to ebb the longer she grasped that shard, allowing it to leave particles of glass in her skin.

Elighan: I should have perhaps seen that coming but I honestly didn’t. I wipe my hand down my face and listen as Caligrace scolds me. Once again all I can here is that I’m not man enough to stand up for myself. Honestly, I might be a little angry about that if I wasn’t more concerned for the damage she’s doing herself after having squeezed the glass too tightly in her grip. “Oh Cali. Please be careful.” I automatically reach for her clenched fist and try to unfurl it so that I can see the damage she’s caused to herself. “She knows about you Caligrace. She knows that I’m seeing someone and she wants for me to be happy. I know you don’t wish to hear me defend her but even as she says that, I know she’s hurting. It’s not because she desires me, before your mind goes down that path, but rather because she only just got me back.” I don’t know this for sure but it makes sense to me. She was upset at me for ‘lying’ to her. She was hurt because I found time for Cali and not for her, even though that wasn’t true. I looked for her so many times, she just didn’t know it. I know now that I have to at least make an effort to talk to her electronically. I have to connect with her so she knows I’m not going anywhere. Hopefully one day soon, she’ll actually believe that. As important as Melete is to me though, right now I need to focus on Caligrace; I owe her that, so I quickly attempt to wrap up the point I was making. “I think she worried of losing me to you. She knows making friends doesn’t come easy to me. In fact from the tone of her emails, I’m pretty sure she thinks we’re already sleeping together.” I chuckle at that, because that’s typical for Melete, everything was about sex with her before I left, though she does seem to have changed a little while I was gone. While I was talking I attempted to pick the shards of glass from Cali’s hand. I can’t believe she did what she did but then I can hardly blame her either. This whole conversation was entirely my fault.

Caligrace: Oh, god. What have I done? It was the only thought that entered her mind as he spoke, and she found herself staring down at her hand in complete and utter shock. The anger she had felt had all but dissipated, leaving her hollow - and ashamed. “Elighan, I am so sorry,” she whispered, her fingers relaxing beneath his coaxing touch. The damage wasn’t bad, though to her, everything was compared to the sight of herself when she woke up on Freyja’s couch. The cuts were shallow, and she knew that it wouldn’t take long for the flesh to knit back together. “I have no idea what came over me, I can’t believe I did that. I’m still learning control.” The words rushed together as she stumbled over herself to apologize, even though she knew that there was nothing she could do or say to fix what she had done. Nothing he said warranted that reaction, and she had thrown his honesty in his face. Literally. “You were right to tell me. It was right that I knew, and I don’t think any less of you. I understand, though, if this…” she trailed off as she waved to the mess she caused, wincing, “makes you never want to see me again. That was so immature of me.” Shaking her head, she bent down and began to pick up the pieces of glass, the flesh of her lower lip being abused by her teeth.

Elighan: As attractive as I found her when she was all fired up, I have to admit I kind of find this side of Cali rather cute and endearing. As she stoop to possibly start clearing up the mess, I find myself reaching out to straighten her back up, a frown upon my face. “Woman, I think you might be crazy.” I say this flatly and then begin to laugh as it hits me as to just how wrong this date has gone. My hands move to grip her waist and momentarily pick her up, stepping over the broken glass and set her down a few feet away from the debris. “You are more than entitled to react to my story however you see fit. And I’m sure that I more than deserved having the champagne thrown in my face for having ignored you in favour of Melete at the start of our evening.” My hands were resting on her hips but I pull one back to run it through my now damp hair, pushing it out of my face. “If you learned anything at all from what I told you, besides the fact that I would never re-enter into sort of sexual relationship with the woman that sired me, I would hope it would be that I have the patience of a saint. It will take more than a little champagne throwing and glass breaking to for me to not to want to ever see you again. And so I shall repeat.” I place the fingers of my free hand under her chin as I look into her eyes. “My dear sweet Caligrace, I think you might be just the tiniest bit insane.” I wink at her and risk being slapped to lean in lightly brush my lips with hers.

Caligrace: Before she had a chance to grab the first piece, he already had her back on her feet. She couldn’t say that she was surprised - she had seen the type of man he was, and he had only furthered that thought when he told her of his adventure with his sire. With a quiet sigh, she wound her arms around his shoulders as he lifted her over the glass - as if the shards were sharp enough to puncture her heels - and allowed him to move her to safety. It wasn’t until he had put her back on her feet that she chanced a look at him. Her eyes, once blazing with fire, had dimmed to their normal shine, signaling that the worst was over. As he spoke, she couldn’t help but memorize his face. Even wet from the champagne, he was attractive. In fact, if it was possible, he was even more so with the alcohol clinging to stray strands of dark hair. “I guess you’re right, but that doesn’t excuse my behaviour. I was raised better than that,” she chuckled, though there was a tad bit of mischief in her smile as he tipped her head back. “Am I, now?” At least he said tiny bit, she mused silently, before tangling her fingers into his damp hair. “If I am, handsome, it’s because you’re making me that way,” she teased, pleased to hear the warmth back in her voice before she returned his kiss graciously.

Elighan: “Well far be it from me to tell a woman she’s wrong when something is so very clearly my fault,” he teased. “Much like you sweetness, I was raised to be the way I am. But…” rubbed his thumb over the apple of her cheek and then lightly kissed her once more. “You truly have nothing to apologise for. Now at the risk of another drenching, or possibly being slapped, why don’t you go into the bathroom, via my bedroom, and clean the blood from your hands while I see to the glass. Towels are in the cabinet.” With that explained he attempted to usher her out of the room.

Caligrace: “You should know by now, handsome, you are never going to be right,” she teased in return, before taking a step back when he began to usher her out. At first, she thought of staying just to spite him, but then she saw the crimson that stained her skin. With a quick shake of her head, she followed the direction he had pointed, taking careful consideration to not touch anything in fear of ruining it. When she finally found the bathroom, she used her free hand to turn on the faucet, while tucking the other under the spray. The sting caused her to wince, and she quickly worked on cleaning the cuts before grabbing a rag and wrapping it around her hand. Clenching it in her fist, she took a moment to collect herself by cleaning out his sink - and the area around it - before stepping out of the bathroom and heading back towards the living room.

Elighan: I laugh good-naturedly as she teases me before she exits the room. While she’s gone I make quick work of the glass, but I’m on still my hands and knees scrubbing at the mess the liquid made when it exploded everywhere. She was obviously embarrassed by her outburst so I won’t mention it again. I wasn’t offended or upset in the least. My only concern was that she hurt herself in the process. She’s a kind hearted person and it shows in everything she says and does. She’s as playful as Melete but she doesn’t have her bite and sharp tongue. I try not to overthink things, and I certainly don’t want to rush into anything new, but I already know I’m in dangerous territory. I lost my heart to Melete and she didn’t treat me nearly as well. I avert my eyes from the red-headed beauty and finish scrubbing at the carpet before going to rinse out the cloth. “Do you need anything to cover the wound Caligrace, or is okay to leave it as it is?” I’m not entirely sure how quickly she’ll heal from what she did. We heal faster than most, I’ve seen it before when Melete’s been injured but we all have our quirks and healing might be one of them for Cali. It’s one of a million things I need to learn about the woman.

Caligrace: The sight of him on the floor had a fresh wave of guilt crashing into her chest, and she found herself fighting the urge to push him aside. She had created the mess in yet another tantrum, and yet, he was the one on his knees cleaning up after her. He’s far too good for me, she mused as she unwound the cloth from her hand at his question. Her liquid gold gaze dropped to the cuts in her skin, and she admired the way they made a rather unique design before shaking her head. “No, handsome, I think I’ll be fine. I’ll just keep the rag around it until it stops bleeding.” He had already done so much for her - there was no way she was going to ask for more. Wrapping the rag back around her slender hand, she tightened the knot with her teeth before holding it up for him to see. She knew that her healing process would be slower than he was more than likely used to, but she wasn’t near ready enough to broach the subject of why. “Are you sure there’s nothing I can do? I feel terrible,” she sighed, her nose crinkling adorably.

Elighan: “We should bandage that properly,” I tell her as I walk over to check it for myself. I need to wash up myself, so I take a hold of her good hand and gently pull her back into my bedroom. “Let me get out of this wet shirt first though. You can sit on the bed if you’d like.” I’m so busy with the task of changing, that I don’t quite realise how this might sound or look. This is our first date and I’m practically forcing her into my bedroom while I remove my shirt. Unfortunately for us both, I don’t realise the awkwardness of the moment until I’ve shrugged the light blue material from my shoulder. “Oh… erm…” Heat crawls over my flesh as I quickly rummage through my closet to find a clean shirt. “I’m sorry Caligrace. That was totally inappropriate of me.” Thinking that it would take a little longer to button up another shirt, I grab a light grey t-shirt instead and hastily pull it over my head. I grab up the shirt from where I discarded it on the floor and go to throw it in the hamper, grabbing a towel to dry my hair as I do.

Caligrace: “I promise you, I’m fine.” Her tone was final, though even as she spoke the words, she doubted that he wasn’t going to listen. She hadn’t known him all that long, and yet she had already began to piece together that he had that protective, caring streak to him that most men seemed to lack. Chuckling to herself, she dutifully followed him into the bedroom and eased herself onto the edge of his bed, her body propped up with her good hand as she watched him head for the closet. “Oh, I don’t mind at all, handsome,” she teased, her smile genuine as she swept her gaze over his form. She knew it was wrong, but she couldn’t help herself when he put himself on display. She was, after all, just a woman. Shaking her head, she pushed herself upright and motioned towards the bathroom. “Are you sure you don’t want to take a shower? I can wait, but I can’t imagine the champagne feels all that great in your hair…”

Elighan: I’m already running the towel over my hair when she asks if I should shower. I should, but I don’t want to keep her waiting while I do that. “I’ll shower later,” I tell her. “I’m sure the champagne isn’t going to do me any harm.” Since she’s headed my way, I duck back into the smallest room in my apartment and grab my hairbrush. I run it under the water and then comb it through my hair. It’s the best I can do with limited time and it will be sufficient for now. I then roughly towel dry my hair again before running the brush through it to tame it a little. “Would you be okay to perch on the side of the bathtub while I properly dress your hand?” I ask as I discard the towel in the hamper and begin rummaging for my first aid kit.

Caligrace: “If you’re sure,” she smiled, though her eyes drift not-so-subtly over his form. She couldn’t seem to help herself. She had wondered what was hidden beneath the thin cotton of his shirt, and now that she had found the answer, who could blame her? Shaking her head to quickly clear it, she reluctantly moved her gaze to his as she moved to perch on the edge of the tub. It wasn’t exactly the most comfortable place, but she refused to deny him that simple request after everything he was doing for her. Lifting her free hand, she moved it through her hair, tousling the scarlet curls with ease over her shoulder. “You really don’t have to, I’m sure it’ll heal fine,” she protested as she curled her fingers into her palm before tucking it against her stomach. She was much like a child in that manner, the thought of peroxide or rubbing alcohol disturbing her more than the glass had.

Elighan: I stand before Cali, ready to wrap the wound. I know she’s just cleaned it so I didn’t grab the antiseptic wipes, though perhaps I should have. I undo the makeshift bandage and discard it in the little silver bin near the sink. I lightly run my fingertips over her palm, avoiding the cut itself and then I carefully wrap the wound, starting at the wrist as that is the most effective method for binding a wounded hand, or so I believe. “I didn’t mean for my words to upset you so, Cali. I just needed you to understand my relationship with my sire. It’s complicated, and I don’t want you thinking that it’s anything more than it is.” I cut off the excess and pin the bandage in place before I lightly stroke the side of Cali’s face with the backs of my fingers. “Would you allow us to perhaps start the night over? I’m sure I’ve made entirely the wrong impression and would really like for us to make it to a second date.”

Caligrace: Attempting to keep the relief from her eyes as he turned without the wretched wipes in his hand, she slowly uncurled her fingers. The wound wasn’t as deep as she had originally thought, yet it was clear it wasn’t healing as fast as it should have. She waited for the questions to fall from his lips, but instead, he simply wound the bandage with more care than she had showed herself. “Thank you,” she whispered and leaned down, brushing her lips across his cheek. “Elighan, you did nothing wrong. Was it a little heavy for a first date? Sure, but it’s better I know. I…” she trailed off and bit into her lower lip, her nose crinkling briefly once again. “I admit, it’s confusing, but I trust you. Maybe it’s strange that I do since we haven’t known each other long, but I do.” Shrugging a shoulder, she dropped her hand to lace her fingers with his, giving a gentle squeeze. “I like that you were honest with me, handsome. I reacted irrationally and I can’t help that. I still haven’t learned to not let my emotions control me so violently.” With a soft smile, she brushed her fingers once through his hair and chuckled. “I’d like a second date, too.”

Elighan: Her words wash away any fear I might have that I have messed things up between us before they even had a chance to start. I know what she means when she says she trusts me, I trust her too. Something clicked for me the night we met. It might be that I’m a sucker for a damsel in distress, but I think we’re past that now, fresh bandage aside. “Shall we finish this date first?” I ask, unable to keep the hopeful tone from voice. I want to take her back into the front room settle down on the sofa and start the movie over. It might be better to choose a new movie though perhaps. She certainly needs a fresh glass of champagne. I’m not sure how else to salvage the night, I’m not very good at playing the dating game. I run my hand through my still slightly sticky hair and then offer her my other hand, so I can escort her back through my bedroom.

Caligrace: As she watched the tension ease from his features, she smiled in quiet contemplation. She couldn’t recall the last time anyone had cared so much about being with her, that they had been almost fearful. The only boyfriend that she could raise to the front of her mind was Grant, and he hadn’t exactly been class A material. In fact, he had been so pitiful, he had almost turned off of the dating scene entirely. Until Elighan, she mused, before taking his hand and standing. The pain in her hand had dulled to a dull throb, and as it became a distant memory, she chuckled. “I think we should, handsome. As far as first dates go, I’m not inclined to forget this one anytime soon,” she teased before stretching up to press a kiss to his jaw before following him to the living room.
* OOC clarification: Adelita did not force herself on Elighan or use her powers on him maliciously, with the intent of bedding him.
