Malleus Maleficarum

Post by John Doe »

If this is found, spread the word. I'm not going to name names even though I have uncovered a couple through hacking low security systems. It's not safe to and even if I gave out the identities it wouldn't help. It would just get people killed. Laugh this information off at your own peril. If you are in Harper Rock you need to know this stuff. There are monsters among us. Real monsters. There are also people fighting against them. There are more people though joining their ranks every day.

I don't know everything there is to know yet, but I'm going to play the part of Alice and go on down the rabbit hole. More on that later.

The hunters:

Sorcerers can be found all over the place. They are not any different in appearance than the average person. They can enchant runes on skin and make a normal man into something more. Something way stronger. They call them Paladins but that makes no sense.

Paladins were holy knights who fought for the church and wore shiny bright armor while wielding broadswords. These "paladins" (of which I am one) can be found in the sewers of Harper Rock fighting naked but for their runes. They are crazy, my paladin abilities work fine while wearing clothing.

There is an old ninja trick where the ninjas would attack in pitch black. They would fight naked so they could feel everything much more acutely. If their flesh brushed cloth they knew it was an enemy they had touched. Maybe that is why they do it. Either that or they are batshit crazy.

Vampires exist and if you drink their blood enough you will become a Blood Thief, or Lamarckian. This was my introduction to the world of the supernatural. An experiment of my sister's sire. She is a vampire. That is why I know vampires are real. I drink her blood and become stronger, I gain their powers.

The Monsters:

Vampires are tough, they are stronger, faster and can take an asskicking better than any human. That doesn't stop them from being killed though. I put a .308 bullet into the head of one though and it shrugged it off. My sister backed me up when it turned toward me though and her shot put it down. It crumbled into ash. The blood from that one was black and hung in the air. That's different that what happens to my sister when she is cut. Her blood is cold and flows slowly from wounds. It's like her body doesn't want to let it go.

My sister made another vampire. Some gangster I guess from the Indian Posse. An indigenous prison gang or some **** like that. She was hoping, well, we were hoping that she would be able to get more powerful like some of the vampires my sister's maker talked about but instead she escaped when my sister was forced to flee after doing whatever vampires do to make more of their kind. I guess it's like in the movies, they feed blood to the dying and they come back as a vampire. She saw her "childe" later that week and tried to pursue her but she got away in the crowds.

What I know so far:

They have no reflections. You can tell them by this. Carry a mirror with you.

They can be controlled by a Blood Thief with Paladin runes. That's what happened with me and my sister. I wish her sire was still alive just so I could bend him to my will and have him slowly cut himself to pieces.

They burn in the sun. My sister is not allowed out during the day obviously. We live in a sub-basement apartment. I'm not telling where.

There are zombies in the Quarantined area of Harper Rock. Legit, The Walking Dead or Night of the Living Dead zombies. They are pretty easy to kill though. They are the slow zombies, not like 28 Days Later. They can be killed with any type of weapon, bullets, baseball bats, knives. I recommend bullets. Anything to stay away from the smell.

Vampires heal fast. Like, really fast. You can hack off a limb one day and it's back the next. Bullets and blades, kicks and punches don't seem to slow them for long. They can be killed though by a steady all out attack. It's just not easy.

My sister says not all of them are like her sire. She says some of them are "decent people". I haven't met any yet. I'm afraid to. I mean, they eat people right? Drink our blood. They do that to helpless people, what the hell would they do to one like me who drinks their blood right back and has powers meant to kill them?

I don't think they'd be too happy to see me.

My sister and I have killed two of them. It's difficult to hunt them down with the cops still looking for me. They don't have a solid identification though. I keep my hair dyed and change my facial hair a lot. Right now I have a handlebar mustache thing going on and I'm blonde. I'm not sure I like the look. By the time anyone reads this I might be bald with no facial hair.

I always wear long sleeves and jeans or slacks now to cover the tattoos. My sister has told me in going from one side of the city to the other she saw no fewer than five vampires. They are everywhere. I'm thinking of sending my sister out to get to know some of them, gather intelligence but I don't know if it's a good idea. They might be able to tell that she is enthralled and then follow her home. If they did that I'm sure they would kill me.

Vampires can tell another vampire by sight. They just know. Maybe they sense the vampire in each other or maybe they just know the signs to look for. My sister says she "just knows". We were checking out this gang fight that broke out looking for recruits to the cause and then about a dozen vampires entered the scene and started wiping everything in sight out. We left them to it. I wasn't about to become a meal for them.

About that rabbit hole...

There is a passage in the sewers to the northwest of Cherrydale that leads into the catacombs. The military has that area blocked off, but there's a way to get in there. My sister and I are going to explore there tomorrow night. If I don't add to this journal, it didn't go well.

I'll write more later when I know more. My sister is out hunting right now and I'm tired. Think I'll nap before she gets back.
