Seeking the Blind [Eirik Loki]

Post by Jesse Fforde »

Texts had been sent to all of Jesse’s progeny—the ones he assumed were around, anyway. Some had got back to him; he’d had small conversations with them, but there’d been no impression that they wished to follow up said conversations with any face to face time. Nor had Jesse left any such impression, either, but he assumed that if they were in need of company, they would make it obvious. He was assured as to the whereabouts of some and concerned about the whereabouts of others. He would try contact them again at a later date. And if they didn’t respond? There wasn’t much that he could do about it.

Given the absence of some of his progeny, he figured it was a good time to move on to their progeny – to reach out, and make sure they were getting the mentorship that they required. Just because his own progeny were slack in getting back to him, didn’t mean they were slack in keeping up with their own progeny. But it was a logical conclusion to jump to.

Sliding through his contact list, Jesse leaned back in the booth at Gresse’s, and found Eirik’s number. The last Jesse was aware, the man had been pining over Renee’s engagement to Simon. Which would be reason enough for a rift to rise between the two. Renee being Eirik’s sire, Jesse wondered how the guy was getting on. And Eirik had one of his own, didn’t he? He’d ask after Erebos, too.

How goes life, Eirik? Meet me at Gresse’s for a chat? I’m at the bar.

He sent the message and settled in the booth, his sketchbook open in front of him. He could be doing this in his office. But he liked a change of atmosphere every now and again.

Eirik had been walking down the street a Bluetooth in his ear so that he could hear if any text messages came in and when his phone chirped he pushed the button to have the text read aloud to him. He smiled at the message asking it was from Jesse and that was one man he had not talked to in a long time. He sent a quick reply back. Will be there in ten minutes as soon as I tome home and use the gate to there. He reached into his pocket and brought out the tome and disappeared to the home then found his way to the portal that was to Gresse's he walked into it and was at the bar. He did not know where Jesse would be so he walked to the front of the building and waited to be seen. He sent a quick text to his childer that he was going to be a Greese's with Jesse so the man would not worry to much about him. Granted the two often missed each other when walking the city but that was a different story. They would still text back and forth. Eirik had taught the man all he knew and had also sent him a text to find one of the older ones in the family so that he could learn even more. As someone came over to him he was asked if he needed a table and he told the person he was looking for Jesse and they showed him to the booth that Jesse was in. "Hello Jesse" he said as he sat down

Curious, as always, Jesse doesn’t immediately get up to greet Eirik. He is aware when the blind man enters; he is equally aware that he won’t know where Jesse sits, unless he has a good nose on him, and sufficient tracking skills. Jesse almost waits to be impressed, if the guy ends up finding him without any help. But, Eirik does no such thing. Instead, he waits for a waitress to come and ask if needs anything, before being guided to where Jesse sits.

Jesse exchanges a nod with Nancy – the very same waitress who’d guided Eirik to his seat. She beams at him before getting back to her job. He’s never had a thrall who’d been so happy to be in his service; he wonders whether she’d do as he said even if she weren’t enthralled. It’s kind of gratifying.

”Eirik,” he says; his palms are flat on the table in front of him, now, his attention solely on this younger member of his family. ”How’s life?” he asks. It’s not a question he’s generally accustomed to asking. It’s one that he hates being asked. But he’s come to realise that’s what people want from him. They want him to take an interest. So, here he is. Taking an interest.

Eirik sat at the table and smiled at the man across from him. There where times he wished he could see but that was beyond the point. He listened to the man greet him and ask him a question. "Hello Jesse. Life well unlife is okay. Hook is doing good last time I talked to him and I told him to seek one of you for more info on this life we live now. I did give him the basics of what he needed to know though about the masq and all that. He is a good man. I have not see Renee since she told about her getting married to that Simon person." Simon's name was said with a hint of malic because Eirik did not like how the man was treating his sire and a woman he had loved at one time. He did think of Clover who he thought was a great person though they did not talk much either. He would need to talk to her more and others in the family as well. "How are you this evening Jesse?"

"Hook? Why don't you call him by ... what is his actual name?" Jesse asks. He can see the guy's face at the forefront of his mind, but he can't recall the last time he saw him. Jesse surely hasn't been contacted. Maybe he's too far down the line for Jesse to snag, and take under his wing. Maybe he's just not interested, regardless. Maybe he's getting his information elsewhere.

"I suppose that's why I'm reaching out. There's a whole branch of this family that seems disconnected somehow. Maybe it can be fixed, if given a little focus," he says, canting his head to the side. He doesn't answer the question, about how he is. He hates that question. And it isn't one that he just asked. Asking about life is different to asking about personal wellbeing.

Jesse doesn't miss the venom with which Eirik seems to spit Simon's name, and Jesse can't help the small smirk - even though Eirik can't see it. Jesse's not too sure he likes the guy. But then, Jesse doesn't really know him. "What about Tara? Have you seen her around?" he asks. So many whom he had not heard from, who had not responded to any of his texts. Where could they have gone?

Eirik listened to the man for a few as he asked questions the first one made him think.
"Hook? Why don't you call him by ... what is his actual name?"
"It is a nickname for him he has a hook for a hand since he lost one. I am also nicknamed Peter Pan so he is Hook. I know that probably does not make any sense. He took off his glasses and looked towards the man with his blank stare.
"What about Tara? Have you seen her around?"
"I have not meet her really yet so I do not know. I was wanting to find Clover sometime soon she said she would take me out to get better clothing. She says my taste is bad. Which is probably true since I can not see what it is I pick up for myself to wear." He was honest with that he did not even know what he had in his closet let alone what they looked like. Watching Jesse he waits to see what the man would say. Then again Clover was someone he was starting to like as a friend so that was good.

Jesse reaches into his pocket for his phone, as if he's about to text Clover and remind her of this thing she was going to do with and for Eirik. But Clover hadn't been answering his texts for the last couple of months, so he doubted this one would go through, either. It was good to know he wasn't the only one that she was ignoring. So he changed his mind, and pushed the phone back into his pocket, instead leaning forward on the table to pay attention to Eirik.

"Who gives a **** about clothes though, really?" he asks, canting his head to the side. He does wonder how blind people pick out their clothing; must be something that they get used to. Or one would hope that the shop assistants would help out.

"You still didn't answer my question, though. What's his actual name? I don't want to call the guy Hook..." Jesse says. He's got a thing about names. He likes calling people by the names they're given. Their full names. Words have meaning, and they shouldn't be shortened or denied their full scope.

Eirik laughed at the statement about clothing and smiled some. "Well it is hard for a blind guy to find things and some of my clothing I had help from my younger sister so her taste was not mine but I took them anyway. She was close to me when I lived at home in Ireland. Sometimes I miss her but I know I came her for a better reason." He listened to Jesse ask about hooks name and smiled again. "His name is Erebos. He is a good man though I wish I saw more of him at times. Not that that is bad but I do want to see how he is doing and if he needs things." He did worry about his only Childe but that was probably a good thing he was still learning as he went as well. He tried hard to make sure he was not where anyone could see him if he feed which was a good thing.

"Ah. Erebos," Jesse says. He remembers, now. He keeps the name tucked in the back of his head, vowing to track the guy down himself, if he has to. He could have teased Eirik about his use of the words 'saw' and 'see' but he figures those jokes are too often done, and decides to hold his tongue. He's been doing that a lot more, lately. Holding his tongue. Kind of. Something that he vows to do more of in the future, anyway.

"You know we have a family full of women? They're not your sister but they do have pretty good taste. You should call Clover, make her take you," he says. Never did he think that he'd be sitting here talking about clothes with Eirik. Clothes. It's one of the reasons why he wishes he'd never got his voice back. He decides to change the subject.

"What was the reason? Why'd you come here?" he asks. He prefers to talk about the real things rather than the small things.

Eirik ran a hand across the table that was one question he did not really want to answer but he knew it was okay to tell Jesse. "I came here to die. I had a terminal illness that was causing me to die. I heard this place might have a healing where I would not die but did not know that meant turning into a vampire. I do miss my sister but she can never know about me being here or even being alive. Though I have not sent her an Obit yet saying I had died. I was supposed to die the month I had been turned. I do think Renee for turning me she saw my suffering and helped me. Though I am still learning about this life. I have listened to make sure I do not do anything dumb for a mortal to see." That was also hard for him because he wished he could see at least heat signatures of people though a vampire would not give off one.
