Dances with wolves... err that's fleeing from wolves...
So I am trying to "ensorcerate" myself and have been stuck on four wolves fled from, despite having 8 fights end up with both me and the wolf alive. Admittedly two of those were the wolf getting away, but still.
I didn't count how many fights I was stuck on three...
Rather than having me bounce back and forth to the NPC, can anyone enlighten me as to what fight result message, counts?

Doesn't count if the message says you are defeated but your character has to exit the battle.
Jus Sum Gai was defeated! Sensing he is outmatched, slipped away from the battle. <--- doesn't count.

I do not have a sorceror - so I took this from the game Wiki:
In order for a regular human to become a Sorcerer, they must track down an NPC Apprentice Sorcerer. For some strange reason, they require that you engage and flee from 5 wolves and provide $10,000. Once you have met these requirements, the apprentice will train you to be a sorcerer; you will be given 5 PXP and your maximum anima to start.
Looks like you have "Flee" 5 times.
Try unequipping any weapon you may have on the character.

I had Kylus pick that class too.
To make things easier you should ttly like:
1) Unequip all weapons
2) Set to show full battle reports in battle tactics
3) Set to flee from NPCs as soon as possible in battle tactics
This counts as one success -> [your name] managed to slip away from the fight and escape.
I'm not sure if the wolf fleeing counts as a success too actually, probably not.
Then you need to go back to an NPC sorcerer to complete the quest after fleeing 5 times. Don't forget to fix your battle tactics after the quest too!

Yeah I did it with Luc Courbon before I spend my points in such a manner that he could not use anima and therefore would be incapable of gaining PXP in the future without me buying it with karma.
You can't win, you can't lose. The wolf can not flee. You have to.
The above result in my last post is a loss, but it does not count as a flee. The message is a lot shorter. Likely what Niklaus posted.
P.S. Make sure you buy an ability that costs anima to use lol.

It can be irritating. I think Luc was level 8 or so when he did the quest. That seemed a good balance between not killing the wolf and having enough stats to not be killed before fleeing.

I never liked this quest and started my Human as a Sorcerer from the beginning just to avoid it. >.>
Go to the Hunting Grounds, if you're not there already, at 0, 35, wilderness.
Take the transit to Newborough and walk SW. Put your grid co-ordinates on via the Settings Page to help.
Remove your weapons. Turn off Powers.
Set your Battle Tactics “At which point do you attempt to flee from NPCs?” to “As Soon As Possible”.
This is just a hunch, but if you set your character’s Battle Tactics to “Slightly Prefer Guns” you will start at a distance from the enemy. It should therefore be easier for you to flee because the Wolf will have to come close to you in order to attack, providing more opportunities.
Like I said, that was just a hunch, but certainly worth a shot! Turn the "Full Reports" on at the Battle Tactics screen to see how things work. See if you can decipher patterns.
Then you just bounce from one Wolf to the other until you’ve fled from enough to complete the requirements.
This can take a number of days depending on how often luck goes into your favour. Persistence is the key!
You may be able to reduce the energy spent on tracking Wolves by asking a very friendly person to seek out the Wolves for you and direct you to them. <.<
Good luck.

I think I finally got my last fight, and have figured out why I got three before I started thinking about it and things got worse.
Minimal fighting skills, had to wield both weapons to stop being defeated before running lol
