Need More Open Threads

Post by Mooncalf »

I've noticed that almost all new threads being made on the Streets board are closed, invite only, or open to one specific person. With lots of newbies coming in, it would truly be great to see more threads marked as open to encourage the newbie writers to interact.

We've had 29 new characters made in the past week, and 15 both individual weeks before that. Most of these are made by entirely new players of the game. The advertising I'm doing is aimed mostly at roleplayers for now, so there are going to be lots of people turning up on the forums and looking around to get their feet wet without standing out too much or putting a foot wrong.

Thanks for reading. :)

Good idea, David.

Though I seem to have noticed that people are directed to the grid when they sign up. They sign up on the grid, and there's nothing in the tutorial that leads them to the forum. Most randoms that have sired under mine, I've had to send them a message on grid to get them to check the forum. A lot of the new players seem not to have even visited the forum, at all.

Is there some way for you to code in a signpost toward the forum in the tutorial somewhere, to explain more thoroughly that that's where the writing happens? A more thorough explanation, perhaps, of RPP and how to get it?

All new roleplayers have been getting the following alert as soon as they first join the game:

"Welcome to Path of the Vampire. As a roleplayer, you can opt to improve your character`s attributes and money simply by participating in forum roleplay. <a href="http://www.mooncalfstudios.com/pathofth ... um/">Click here</a> to go to the forum now and get started. But remember, you`ll still need to learn the basics of the game eventually, in order to gain powers and similar.<br>"

This has been happening for a couple of weeks now.

Though, I just realised the alert wasn't going out to mobile users, so thanks for making me look at it again.

Do you think roleplayers should be sent directly to the forum after character creation? While gamers are sent instead to the game, I mean.

I dont know about you.. but I found the forum very intimidating. It took me a while to figure out where things were.. etc.

Example: I am going to on vacation.. I post in RP Planning I am going to be away. I got 5 ppl shaming me that I posted it in the wrong place; I should post it in "Off Topic"

Now I didn't let it bother me - I stated It affect roleplay for the other players so I posted it rp planning, and I stand by that.

My point here is, not everyone is so.. arrogant as myself, and might take that type of shaming to heart and not return. Or they are like me, in that they are intimidated by the forum.

I really think there should be a Forum 101 Primer for the new players. Those that know forums.. great they can ignore it. But for those that dont - the play by email types; the ones that have only played on small forums; or the goggle docs rpers; might appreciate and jump in faster if they have one.

Yeah... That ^

But even still, I'm well versed in the forum and I still don't do open threads. If someone wants to write with me, they're free to PM me and plot something out, but open threads without any planning don't appeal to me.

Curiously, what would that look like, a forum primer?
