A mistake a long time coming (Sepsis)

Post by TobaisCorbin (DELETED 5748) »

Tobais sat quietly on the bench his hand opened and closed He had on a thick green hoodie with the hood drawn over his face. His aged jeans has seen a bit too much wear and tear, they frayed over his boots. The face, visible under the hood gazed over the graveyard with empty eyes, this is where she was buried, Crystal, the one he lost, he looks down at the dark blackish purple glow around his hand and stands up. Today was the day that changed, he had seen it before...when she was attacked by the walking dead. He would have her back, he was done being alone. He walked to the grave, grasped the shovel he had stuck in the dirt still moist from the rain earlier and dug. Time passed and the sun finished its set and darkness fell upon the man and his doings. Dark times for dark deeds. As the time passed he recalled how he had fallen so low...

It was several years ago, he passed her on the street and they bumped into each other by no more than chance, she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, in no time at all they were dating, he found himself the luckiest man on the face of the earth, that such a pristine woman would fall upon him.

Time went on and they were happy, they had moved in together and he had been there for her at the death of her mother, however when they went to deliver flowers to her grave..that is when it happened. He only stayed in the car for a moment, to plug in his cell phone, than he heard it, her scream, as he rushed to her he saw them..the living dead they had her in their clutches. He caught a glimpse of a hooded figure vanishing into the trees before he ran.

He finds he reaches her resting place sticks the shovel to the side and begins a chant over her form, outside the coffin. If necromancy took her away, than it would give..her..back, however a thunk upon the coffin interrupts his chant. It dawns on him like a tidal wave...she was attacked by zombies..and he buried her shortly after. Getting out of the grave he pales a bit more as the coffin is pushed open and the corpse of his beloved gets out..and starts to claw its way out of its grave.

He backs away and drops to his knees "No..crystal no..please" He says looking down, as the walking dead approached him slowly, holding out its arms almost as if to embrace him..one last time. The black power of necromancey fades from his hand as he waits...to be embraced by his beloved once more.

Sepsis had her own reasons for being in the cemetery on this evening. She had not forgotten one of her more recent trips to the Fade, and her encounter with Him. Even in death, He hated her for not being able to work the Dark Trick. Loathed her for the life He had left behind, and the family He had lost. To speak His name was almost unbearable to her, but here He lay. Or at least that's what the stone said.

Husband, Father, Beloved

She stood, staring at the stone as though she could will His fate to have changed. To be with her. Forever. But, she could not blame herself forever. She had tried. How the dark gods knew she tried...and how they had mocked her for failing. Sighing softly to herself, Sepsis knelt, brushing the face of His tomb with her hand before resting a single perfect stargazer lily in front of the stone. A breath caught in her throat, and she smiled sadly to herself, remembering the first time He had ever given her one of these same beautiful flowers. She had still been human then...and they had both been foolish enough to believe that nothing could stop them from being together. Fate surely worked in cruel ways.

Rising, Sepsis shook her head. It did no good to be melancholy, she could not change what was, any more than she could bring Him back from the True Death. But it didn't mean she would forget Him, or He would forget her should she enter His realm again. There was nothing to be done about that now however, and it was time to tend to her duties for the evening.

TobaisCorbin wrote:"No..Crystal, no..please"
Her head whipped around quick as a viper at the words, and she realized she was not alone. Foolish of her...so caught up in her own thoughts that she didn't even notice anyone. Her eyes found the man, and she frowned briefly to herself. Someone certainly had had a busy night. The man stood beside a freshly exhumed, the shovel he used stuck in a pile of dirt close by. What interested her most however, was the rotting zombie that was now fast approaching the man....and he was making no attempt to escape.

Curious indeed.

Without thought, Sepsis lunged, placing herself between the human and the zombie, pushing the man back a few steps with one arm, before spinning and placing a well aimed front kick at the rotters chest. The zombie sprawled on the ground, tongue lolling out of it's mouth as it struggled to regain its footing. It never got a chance to however. In one fluid motion, Sepsis pulled her glock from her side holster, and aimed directly at the creatures face.

~BANG! BANG! BANG!~

Three shots, just to make sure, and the zombie lay still. Forever this time. She regarded the zombie with a mild look of disgust on her face, as the stench of the rotting flesh finally hit her nose. With one foot, she shoved the dead thing back in its grave, and turned to look at the human she had just saved.

"Peace" Sepsis said softly. "I'm not here to hurt you." Sepsis reached out and offered her hand to the man. His face expression was unreadable for the moment, but he truly was beautiful in a fragile human way.

Maybe she would keep him.

The attractive woman appears out of nowhere, she pushes him down and he is aghast. He had not even heard her coming, or known of her presence at all before right this moment. He watched, the world passing by as if it were a slow motion reel as she whipped out a handgun and put down the woman he loved. No, he cant think like that, he was a necromancer it was not her..he had to know that. His mind swam in a haze of gunshots, undeath and, something worse.

He had read that necromancy was not an art for a living human, what is the worst that could happen, he thought. His mind was in a dark haze, so when the hand was offered he took it not entirely knowing what was going on and pressed against the person. He knew not who they were, he did not care, only that they were there, right then. Black necromancy had already started to set in on the human and he muttered quietly incomprehensible words.

After a while however he looked at the woman properly and paled a bit, she looked..strange. Beautiful but strange, she looked from a different world. He however could not look upon her terribly long as the events had left his fragile human form drained and he passes out, falling against his savior.

Her eyebrows furrowed slightly as the unknown man took her hand and regained his footing. He looked...lost, and for some unknown reason, this bothered Sepsis. Humans fell into two categories...food, or useful. Something about this human though, gave her pause. The man muttered a few garbled words, but nothing Sepsis could make out, and then fell against her, unconscious. Catching him before he could fall, Sepsis hoisted the man into her arms , like she would a child, and peered into his face.

"Hey, are you ok?" Sepsis asked as gently as she could. But there was no reply. Shaking her head, Sepsis looked about the cemetery, searching for signs of a vehicle he had come in, or someone that may be lurking about waiting for him...but, she found nothing, and no one. His chest rose and fell steadily as she watched him, and she decided he was not hurt, merely passed out from the trauma of this experience. Which was understandable. He was merely human after all. But, she could not just leave him here....it seemed...wrong.

Cursing herself for interfering, she immediately chastised herself for doing so. Being eaten by zombies was not something she would wish upon anyone, let alone a hapless human. No, she had saved his life, and now it was her responsibility to ensure that none would harm him while he rested. There was little choice in the matter in her mind. Shifting the mans weight, Sepsis hoisted him up onto her shoulder like a sack of potatoes, and reached with her now free arm into her jacket pocket. Pulling out her cell phone, she dialed. Delilah, a human store clerk she had hired for the day shift, would come with a car, and drop them off at one of her homes in the city. Delilah would not be long....which was fine by Sepsis. The longer she stood here holding an unconscious human, the more risk someone would come along and ask questions she truly wasn't prepared to answer.

A short while later, Delilah arrived in a sleek black Lincoln, dashing out to open the rear door for Sepsis to lay the man gently across the back seat, before climbing into the front seat herself. She would give this man a safe place to rest for the night, and tomorrow...tomorrow she would know why he was digging up zombies. Surely there had to be more to it than a death wish.

Tobais had horrible dreams, muttering quietly to nobody as unseen phantasms plagued his dreams, as they had since he set down this path. However it faded a bit this time as he got closer to the waking world. When he at last greets said world, he was in a bed, a big fluffy comfy one. There was drapery over the bed of a fine quality, or so he had to assume. He holds his head when he rises and looks about, he could make out not but shadowed shapes on the other side of the drape, he almost feared to open it. The last he could recall was a woman with a gun blasting..something in the face. How he had ended up in this position was unknown.

He examined himself as he felt odd, and weak and coughed once or twice a few small spittles of blood fly onto the immaculate quilt on the bed. He paled a bit and hoped he did not have to play for that later, im cash or otherwise. Slowly scooting himself to the edge of the bed took more out of him than he thought it would and he could not stand up after he pulled the drape to the side to see the strangely decorated apartment. The copious amount of books made him feel comfortable, as did the large aquarium. It was however the strange artifacts the owner had about the room that drew his rapt interest. He focused on them and scarcely noticed if any other were in the room.

Sepsis had left the man alone briefly after she settled him inside her apartment, locking the the door behind her to keep him safe. One hour later, her nightly duties completed, she had returned to the apartment, taking up her own silent vigil after ensuring he was still resting peacefully. Such beautiful dark hair he had, and she wondered idly to herself as to what colour his eyes were. She would discover that soon enough, but for now, they were closed, and he muttered unintelligible words in his fitful rest.

She listened for a time, noting the man's breathing was becoming less deep, as if approaching consciousness. Not much later she heard his coughing, and smelled blood. Sepsis frowned, unexpectedly worrying for the human. Was he suffering from a disease, or some injury she had not detected? She made no effort to move and make her presence known, and instead chose to watch for the moment.

Sepsis watched as the bed canopy opened, and the man gained his footing in what she perceived to be a weakened state. She was almost positive something ailed the man, and she found herself wanting to ease his suffering. He seemed to be comfortable in his surroundings as he wandered through her apartment, his eyes taking in the many packed book shelves, and the large wall aquarium. Her trinkets seemed to interest his most however, and she knew she should speak now, before one of her relics accidentally was damaged.

"I am pleased you have woken." Sepsis spoke in a soothing tone as she rose, much too gracefully for a human. She crossed the distance between them in one fluid motion, stopping a short distance away from the man. "Come, sit. You look like you are still recuperating from your..ordeal this evening." Sepsis held out her hand so as to lead him to a nearby leather couch. "Don't be afraid..I just want to talk to you." She smiled warmly, staring into what she could now see were beautiful bright green eyes.

"After all, It's not every day a I find one digging up zombies you know." She giggled, a sound that echoed a tinkling bell, and her facial expression filled with a childlike glee.

He jumps, incredibly surprised at the sudden appearance of the woman from earlier. She seemed to appear out of nowhere at all just like last time, this was the first time he had managed to get a real look at her and it was obvious..this woman was not human. He backs into the bookcase when she rises, with a grace that belied the nature he believed and he breathed a stammering breath.

He lets himself be lead to sitting beside her and he looked at her warily "Wh..what are you" He asks timidly after listening to the singsong tone of her voice. "I...i didn't know she had turned" He says looking down ashamed of his own ignorance in front of this strange, amazing creature that this woman was.

It was than that he fell over against her coughing and gagging, his body was falling apart, the toll of attempting such powerful necromancy as a feeble human. His entire body shuddered and he closed his eyes in pain for a moment. He recovered and pushed softly off of his inhuman host "s...sorry"

Sepsis tensed as the man collapsed against her, his body seemingly spasming as he coughed and lost his breath to the fit. Without understanding why, Sepsis found herself wrapping her arms around the man like a mother would a child, rubbing his back gently in effort to ease the discomfort she believed he must be in. After the man had settled once again, Sepsis leaned back, focusing her gaze upon his face.

"What am I, you ask...." Sepsis trailed off, and smiled at the man. "Introductions should be first, yes?" The pyresses eyes twinkled, and she smiled warmly, trying to put him at ease. "I am called Sepsis. My true name, is not entirely important at this time. What I can do for you however, is far more important. But first, I need know who you are, and what you were doing in the cemetery tonight. As I mentioned before, it's not every evening that I find a human digging up a rotters grave."

She didn't know why, but his presence comforted her. Smiling once again, Sepsis idly wondered if he would even be able to survive a Changing. It was a difficult process with her curse, and this man was already ill in her eyes. To have him snuffed from the face of the earth though... The thought troubled her greatly, but she remained silent, awaiting his reply.

He seemed to hum and he snuggled into her almost out of reflex when she wrapped him tightly in her arms, he however allowed the feeling to pass when he found the embrace had run its course and come to pass. He wanted to embrace her again, it made him feel safe, but that was not what had to happen now, he couldent just throw himself at a random woman he barely knew.

"I am Tobais, Corbin" He says hanging onto her name like a lifeline. He bent over and coughed up some blackish goop that appeared to be blood. When he again rights himself he looks at her apologetically "She...is not...was not, just a rotter" He says managing a bit of a harsh note, but he found he could not keep it up with this beautiful creature for long. His hostility melted away and he shook his head. "Her name was Crystal, she was everything to me, i thought..i mean..i refused to give up on her" He says tears welling up in his eyes. He had told this story to nobody, and it had been welling up inside for years. Aside from that he owed his savior an explanation "I thought i could..bring her back not be so damned alone. I guess...i was too late. She was already back when i.." He shudders and breaks down into another coughing fit and looks at his hand which shakes quite a bit. He feared what was happening to him. Whatever it was it hurt, horribly, he wanted it to just end..one way or the other.

She listened attentively as Tobais spoke, and a slightly..guilty feeling ate at her as she listened to him speak of the one he called Crystal. Such hope he had held by the tone of his words. She herself knew better. There was no return from being zombified. Only a slow decay, a diseased mind incapable of any thought, and driven only by the primal need to consume human flesh.

The man was pressed close against her, her arms wrapped tightly around him, when the next coughing spasms wracked his fragile human form. The thick smell of blood assaulted her nostrils as the spittle flew from his mouth, and a sense of panic struck her. In that moment she truly decided. He would be hers, and she would give him what humanity could never give him. Freedom from his mortal chains.

"Tobais..." she whispered, lifting his chin so he could look into her eyes. "There are fates worse than death, and fates worse than becoming...what Crystal was." Sepsis paused, staring into his brilliant green eyes. "But there is also a fate I have chosen for you. I will make you in my image. You will be free from this mortal realm. And you...you shall have within your power to be whatever you choose to be." The pyress paused, and brushed a lock of hair from his face.

Sepsis bared her teeth at the man, allowing him to watch as her canines grew into pointed, snow white fangs. Her eyes flashed with fire, and she nuzzled her way towards his neck. Without hesitation, and without warning, she sunk her fangs deep into his carotid artery, pulling his life into hers. When she had her fill, she carefully withdrew her fangs so as to not tear his fragile skin, and closed her eyes, savouring the life giving vitae. Running her tongue across the wounds to seal them, she then pushed back so as to peer intently into his face once again.

"I am a vampyre, Tobais...and you will be my Progeny."

Quickly sinking her fangs into her own wrist, she lifted her arm, pressing the open wound against his mouth so that he had no other choice but to consume what she was giving. "One week Tobais...one week, and you shall never know fear again..." Sepsis allowed a small frown to pass her lips as she continued.

"But this....this is going to hurt..."
