Moonlight and Lillies[Pathday 3]
It occurred to her as she slipped Megan's company, that she hadn't taken a night to enjoy the city by herself in quite a while. Which, with some of its inhabitants made it quite impossible, but alone, there was an irresistible quality to the air tonight. It invited her to ignore her usual annoyance with the state of the city and simply enjoy a fine evening with a bit of a crisp to the air.
Her fashionable coat on, a bloodpack secured in a secret pocket, if she felt a bit peckish and her cell phone on vibrate should there be an actual emergency from one of her businesses or from Megan herself. Walking down the deserted streets of coastside, she realized she must have gotten off earlier then wanted and shrugged it off. Tonight she was going to let destiny guide her around the city, versus her usual logical go here and accomplish this actions.
Pausing, she found herself down a block or so from the airport that held this shambling country town from being deserted by everyone and everything. Years ago when she had first arrived, it not been this spread out field, with parking and mini shops surrounding it. Instead it had been a one horse airport for a no horse town. Almost as if it had happened tonight instead of then, she remembered a former and quite competent assistant, now passed away due to a faux pas on her beginning blood urges.
She even remembered what had drawn her to the town, a now penniless mid level exec who had abused her fashion company that had been starting out her and hadn't thought that the boss would step foot in a small town to find out his perfidy.
A smirk crossed her face, that many had and would continue to underestimate her, due to various assumptions about her. Their own fault really, for she had never been a woman to let others judgments build who she was.

Re: Moonlight and Lillies[Pathday 3]
Though there was the one in this city, who from the beginning had not underestimated her and had in fact made such tempting offer, it had been impossible to turn down.
Zachariah. It occurred to her as she watched another plane fly into the airport, that he had never been meant to be anything but a quick stop before her next flight out of this small town. She had always loved and thrived in big cities, New York being fertile ground her to plant roots and make something of herself.
Alone she could admit that she had shunned what everybody else had wanted in her New Jersey High school. Marriage, children, the obligatory twenty pounds of make up and hair. So what if her father had been a mafia godfather and unbeknownst to her, had a whole entire "legitimate" family he enjoyed.
Those unseen knife wounds had simply been the last push to get the **** out of that small place and become what she had always known she could be. More.
She supposed Zachariah had seen that hunger in her, that despite owning several companies and being rich, despite having what she had thought she needed more then life, there was still a hunger in her for something she had never contemplated to be real.
She remembered walking into that restaurant, seeing his eyes and thinking she had the whole dinner wrapped up inside her head. Drinks, a light meal, subtle flirtation, and at the end, she would have this mysterious but powerful Doctor on her hook and ready to jump should she ask.
A brief chuckle, filled with actual humor came out. In the end, he had been the fisherman and her just another intelligent fish he had hooked. But he had given her that extra umph she hadn't realized she'd been missing. As he had promised. The only thing she had to do was give a certain amount of loyalty to him alone.
The bargain struck, she had no longer been Sophia Moretti Di'Carlo, favored child of a single mother and a child in shame to a powerful mob family.
Instead she had become Docere. A powerful thing that was not just a name but was an attitude. A rank admist the rift and raft of this city. Her sire was one who had re-created the first council and tried to bring order to a city that in its newly turned youth could not handle that challenge.
Not only was she a Docere. But it was apart of her duty to be a role model for those who could not see the truth buried beneath the chaos filled mists. To guide not just other Doceres, but the rest of the city.
Currently of course, they could not be bothered and she extended that courtesy right back to them. But what most could not seem to see, is that they were all immortal now. They had time. Time to wait, time to watch, time to plan for a future that would be better then the current mess.

Re: Moonlight and Lillies[Pathday 3]
[Memory 2]
A light shiver from passing air brought the sensation of goose bumps to her arms but not the actual feeling of cold. So far this evening had been a good reminder to her. That no matter how lost she saw the city become, her plans could still go on and last, she would simply have find ways to enact them that might not seem within the edges of the coloring lines.
Passing the airport now, she strolled a few more blocks down and found the Seigneur de l`Azur building, waiting as if for its own special notice. The building currently seemed deserted, not filled with the usual assortment of gangs and wannabe's that were attracted to its interesting architecture.
Stepping aside the cardboard boxes that now made up the bottom floor into what she could only assume was now a homeless type of city, she moved to the side rooms and ignored the various levels of nonexistent threat coming from the humans that might as well be ghosts for the notice they got from her.
She could still feel the pulse of blood staining the walls, her lips curved, fangs glinting for only a moment. Her first true call to war. She did not count the various Grigori/Docere conflicts before this, for those had been beneath notice.
But this. this battle had been personal. And not just personal, but a moment of personal satisfaction for her. When her gun had bit into every single one of that disgusting creature's family.
The city could say what they wanted about the event, and did even now in the occasional moments it came up. Some called it a city triumph and the only time they had worked together. A loud snort came out at that, as she gazed through the wall in front of her. Supposedly great minds like Phoenix and others had made a fool proof plan to destroy Emanuel's bloodline all at once, with everybody working together.
The truth was a great deal more ruthless then any harmonic city understanding or handholding. It had actually been achieved, thanks to a more detailed plot by her sire and Velveteen, including tytonidae. They had used Noble bodies as canon fodder and then once that blood was spilled and they had access to the upper levels of the fortress that the creature and his family had hid, they had descended in mass. True a few who weren't Docere or Tytonidae, had gotten shots in. But even they had gotten there at the end of the battle.
What had amused her later was to watch certain people who thought in the privacy of the former city meeting halls to throw tantrums about who exactly did what. To her mind, the only reason anything had gotten done was because her blood had made it happen. Otherwise, without the push ahead to not wait for the so called leaders of the city alliance, she assumed even now they would be stuck with Emanuel alive and talking. Which was not acceptable in any universe that she lived in.
Feeling hungry for more then a bloodpack, she found a lone human and quickly sank her fangs into the jugular vein for her food. The sweet taste riddled with the murkiness of the underground, brought back the exact moment she had looked into Emanuel's eyes and shot him in the chest. That was a sweet dream she kept with her even now.
Dragging the body to a pile of humans who clearly under the influence of something and sleeping, she left it at an angle with a slit throat, covering her fangs and making it look as if it were robbed for whatever goods it had clung to.
Deeming this no longer a safe spot to enjoy her moment in, she strolled out, texting megan back that she would be home later that night and not to worry as usual.

Re: Moonlight and Lillies[Pathday 3]
[Memory 3]
Her stroll took her past a favored club she had once hung out at, a Buddhist temple she had always found peaceful, and past several residential areas towards the woods. Something was here, but what exactly was on the tip of her brain. Pushing against the resistance, she kept strolling and stumbled upon a building simply named "Solace Sanctuary."
Now there as a word to set her mind on fire and cause her to go on destructive bents. Solace, the kool aid cult for vampires, was nothing but a disgrace. Run by Robert Pratt. A vampire who lacked the comprehension of society, much less kindergarten.
So far he was her one regret in this city. The fact that she had not been able to puncture his skull and or chest with bullets, left a wound inside of her that one of these days would push her to go to far. There wasn't just one memory of him, but multiple, including those where he had touched her and almost caused her to cut off pieces of her skin or risk contamination.
It wasn't that he had made the city a stupider place, that in itself could be attributed to the fact that stupid sires made stupid vampires. No, the true heart of the matter is that he stood there, breaking every rule that should be in place, trying to bring unneeded notice on their kind under the guise of being a fake religious cult leader. And if that wasn't enough to start a joke, he lied, twisted right into wrong and then seemed shocked when the rest of the city wouldn't just embrace his idiot isms whole heartedly.
If he had his way, they would be all dead in the shadow realm or worse, him in charge with them unable to bring to anyone. The fact that someone like him could gain stature was what had finally convinced her that the city clearly needed to destroy itself inward before it could be reborn.
Not seeing him around, she destroyed the two sensors that she could find as an outlet for deep seated lust to see his blood covering any and all floors she owned.
That done, she carefully picked her way out of the wreckage she had left behind on his front door and sanitized her hands. One day, she would get her revenge for his crimes against the city, however, tonight was not that night.

Re: Moonlight and Lillies[Pathday 3]
[Memory 4]
Forcing herself to continue her journey, she strolled her way out of the woods and back into the more residential areas. She did feel a bit refreshed from her bent of destruction, which somehow seemed to set her footsteps on the road towards a familiar bar. She had only been in it once, one moment that she had chosen to try and find a certain old friend that she was estranged from. Having not found him, she had taken it as a sign before that she should keep her distance.
But now, finding her steps outside the place named for him, she wondered if perhaps she had been hasty in her actions.
Stepping inside Lancaster's, she snagged a chair in the corner and decided to rest for a few more moments. Memories of the first time she had met Elliot, hovered over her mindscape a bit. He had been for the longest while, one of the shyest and more gracious people she had met in the city. Easy on the eyes of course, but so stubborn.
Ordering a drink, her fingers traced the edges of the table as she considered a few of the last conversations between them. She could admit now with time passed that perhaps she had been too blunt. Especially when it came to the whole Robert and Pi issue. Though honestly, she had been fed up with Pi completely by this time. However, it was not for one friend to judge another's family to them. She should have kept the dilemma more to herself. But she had been so fed up with Robert sneak attacking her, and then using Blake to spy on her. It had pushed her last nerve for the whole situation right out the door and unfortunately instead of taking a step back, like she would normally do, she had forged ahead. Fed up with the name Robert Pratt, his attacks and lies among other things from the past, had all conspired to make her put out past her limit of normal temper.
It seemed perhaps she owed Elliot an apology, and not just because she had been an active part of their friendship and had helped it to fail. He was one of few who had offered a hand to her during a dark time, and she had not repaid that hand properly. It was not well done of her at all.
Taking out her phone, she brought up Elliot's number and hoped she had the right one.
"Elliot,
I was hoping in the next weeks we could get together and chat? I have come to the realization that perhaps I owe you an apology for previous actions. I know that we have not spoken recently, and perhaps you would not be interested, but I am hoping perhaps you will see your way to a conversation.
-Sophia"
With that text out, she continued to sit in the bar and tune out to the music playing, contemplating what her next stop would be on this tour of memories around the city.

Memory 5: Part 1
Finishing up her drink, she waited for a reply and then decided it might not come to quickly being as if she remembered right, Elliot had always been quite the busy bee.
Getting up, she left a tip for the waiter and then strolled out, nowhere in particular on her mind as she caught a train near his bar and found herself in the familiar area of Gullsborough.
Strolling towards the Necropolis, brief flashes of different political meetings flashed through her head. Most recently had been that failure to revive the old code. Whether it had been due to poor management or simply because everyone had gotten so hung up on the bickering rather then the common vision, it was hard to say. Regardless of the reason the meetings had derailed into utter fights from the last word she had gotten. No big surprise there really. No one in this city could seem to settle on a bigger vision of greatness, too focused were they on the minuscule power grabs to be had.
Remembering sitting at home as she read the long transcripts of fights over the old code reminded her strongly of meeting Megan for the first time. Her constant human companion and one who she could simply not do without in this city. Some would have called her a mere thrall or slave to Sophia's whims, but in reality she was so much more.
She remembered it had been a cold evening much like this one. She had put an ad in the Harper Rock Newspaper, searching for an assistant who would be efficient and competent. Someone who did not mind long hours and weekend. In reality she had been virtually shopping for a human servant, someone to help her out during the day and who wouldn't be bogged down by family ties. A human who wouldn't be missed and someone she could depend on to keep her secrets. Though she hadn't just been about to willy nilly trust the first human through the door, her strong allurist powers were humming, ready to be used to bind said prey to her the moment the decision was made.

Re: Moonlight and Lillies[Pathday 3]
Memory 5: Part 2
Pausing by one of the more popular internet shops in town, a tilted smile came over her face. There had been so many applicants to her ad, it had almost been impossible to decide. Many of them had seemed competent, a few had stood out with work history for being able to get large projects done. But so many of them had not filled the last demand she had, one that of course had nothing to do with work history or personality, and more to do with what her mother would have called "gut instinct".
She had known that she would feel something, even if it was a bare spark for when the right person presented themselves, but that night and the next, had both been busts. Humans had come and gone, all reassured they would get a call if chosen, but being marked off the list for good.
After a week, she had been to the point of giving up, with only two applicants seeming desirable and neither of them really fitting her last requirement, she had wondered if maybe she wasn't simply ready to find that perfect person for the job.
And then Megan had come in. Quiet, no family ties and her resume had been particularly interesting. It wasn't so much the list of jobs she had gone to and from, it was the fact that they were all in different fields of business. A good portion of those jobs, had the added title executive in front of them, which said that she had gotten promotions and even if the jobs hadn't worked out, that in itself said something.
She had interviewed the girl, almost sure that she was just feeling something simply so she wouldn't feel this was a complete waste of time, but that spark had stuck in her mind over the next few days, as she checked out her background and former bosses.
Bringing her back in to her the newly bought home in Cedar Court, she had offered Megan the job along with a cup of wine. The spark was still felt, but it was subdued as Megan had accepted her job offer.
The first few weeks had been a bit tumultuous, as she had to use her allurist powers frequently on the girl to keep her from guessing that she wasn't actually out and about during the day. Though the experience had been useful in helping her gain tighter control over said powers, a part of her did feel a bit unsettled that she had to hide so much from Megan. The woman had proven herself indispensable so far, helping to control her businesses in New York and never complaining. Ignoring the times that Sophia might snap at her out of frustration with the ongoing nonsense in the city, Megan had gone a long way to sooth any nerves Sophia had had in hiring her or for considering the next phase of her plan.

Ignoring the times that Sophia might snap at her out of frustration with the ongoing nonsense in the city, Megan had gone a long way to sooth any nerves Sophia had had in hiring her or for considering the next phase of her plan.

Re: Moonlight and Lillies[Pathday 3]
Memory 5: Part 3
And she hadn't been disappointed in considering Megan for the gift she had in mind for her. Megan had shown herself not just an efficient employee, but had an uncanny ability to cut through the ******** that others around her gave.
It had been that last ability, that had decided her. She remembered sitting Megan down and explaining to her that she had a promotion for her. One that would give her not just a pay raise, but something special, immortality. She hadn't laughed when Megan had all but fallen out of her chair, wine dumping all over the ground. Instead she had for the first time she could remember in this city, was entirely blunt. She had told Megan if she weren't interested, she wouldn't remember the conversation, but she had told her before her decision was made, she should look at the pro's and con's. On one hand, she would have immortality, for as long as Sophia lived, so would Megan, or that was the understanding she had been given from the wraith guide. Barring Sophia stupidly throwing her into fights, which wouldn't happen, she would have unlimited funds and the only draw back was that she would no longer be human. She hadn't mentioned the consuming loyalty thralls were said to have, nor had she mentioned that she wouldn't be all powerful. She had kept it simple and then gotten up to get her another glass of wine.
What had surprised her, and almost caused her to drop the cups of wine onto the floor herself, was Megan's response.
"Why me? I mean I understand that you quite pickily chose me to work for you, and that we do a good job together. But say this is all true and not some golden goose egg..why would you offer it to me?"
Sitting down, Sophia had set the cups down and then leaned back, keeping her black eyes direct with Megan's blue ones.
"Well I could offer the usual reasons. You are efficient, effective at anything you do, and I have yet see you waste my time or your own. However those would just be surface reasons. Beneath it all, I suppose it's because you remind me of a younger me. Driven, wanting to excel, unable to find that perfect job, because lets be honest, the only perfect jobs are the ones you can make on your own. And in the end, it comes down to character. If you cannot finish a project, to the exact nth of my demands, you don't give me an excuse, you simply explain it will be finished right the next time, and that if memory serves was only once. If I wanted just any random person who be a good worker, I would have chosen one off the street and saved myself the process of listening to hundreds try to sell themselves to me. The difference between you and them is that you didn't sell yourself to me. You gave me hard proof of your exemplary qualities, let me research that out on my own and since I have hired you, you have fulfilled each duty you said you would. I don't often explain myself as I am sure you have noticed, and I am sure ten out ten employee's would have questioned me to get further hints on why my schedule is so odd, or to figure out what they thing I want from them. However you also did not do that. You simply applied yourself to finding out what my needs are before I waste my time saying them. "
She remembered pausing, not one for long speeches, she had needed the metaphorical breath before continuing.
"That is not to say that once this deal is struck you will stay a employee. In fact you will probably end up closer then most in this city will ever end up next to me. But that is why I am offering you this deal and not someone else. I need someone who can grow from being just an employee."
She might have said more, however Megan had shook her head and stopped her with a hand held up.
"Sound reasoning. I agree."
"You are sure? I do not mean to waste our time by reiterating this is permanent and not temporary. And you can stay for the night here and think about it. I would not demand you make the choice now."
That had been first time she had seen that particular spark actually flare up into something more.
"I do not need time. I quite understand that I will understand all this better once this ..ceremony is done. But I do understand all the basics you have laid out and it suits me."
A fond smile crossed Sophia's face, her phone taken out to tell Megan she should go and relax for the rest of the evening instead of working on business matters. That moment had marked the beginning of a powerful friendship, one that had not only saved her life, but had kept her from going quite crazy in this too small town.

Re: Moonlight and Lillies[Pathday 3]
Memory 6
Somehow, she found herself in an alleyway, one that tugged her memories away from how she had met Megan and towards a more interesting filled time for her. Unless she was mistaken, this alleyway was the one in which she had almost died in.
It was also in fact the place that she had gained a true friend within this city. This memory was all but burned into her retina's, but then almost dying from foolishness had a way of imprinting itself on a person, even one with immortality.
Though now that she considered the events, perhaps she might not have died, but it had been close enough to count. All because of that creature who had thought to make a dynasty of his kind and overtake the vampires. Though if she pointed that simple truth out to this city, it would be argued about as it had been before. It had astounded her when the bickering had been ongoing, that even those who had lived for far longer then her couldn't see the blunt writing on the wall. But then so many had wanted to believe that the poor blood thieves just wanted to make friends and borrow their blood for cookies or some such nonsense.
Crossing over towards the park across from that alleyway, she grabbed a seat and sat back, carefully going over the events in her mind that had led up to her siring a monster by accident, almost death and then friendship. She supposed she could have continued to argue with half the city about the "intentions" of a creature who had already proven he was willing to use their blood for mysterious purposes without reporting why blood thieves needed that blood so desperately. But her patience, while endless with business matters had become expired when she saw that even the so called elders of this city, minus her sire were blinded to what an idiot could see was a plan for killing her kind off and then taking over from there.
So she had crafted a plan to meet with the so called leader of these blood thieves, pretending she had honest questions, but in truth simply wanting to kill him and have done with the whole ordeal. And that right there had been the foolish part of her plan. Not the kill part, but the fact that she hadn't honestly considered what powers that monster and his kind had gotten from months of stored up blood from other vampires. And because of that, she had almost been bled dry by the creature, who had cannily enough stored up the extra power and evidently had been waiting for one of the hippy type vampires to meet with him and fall into that trap. She should have seen it coming, but what was clear now so many months later, had been clouded by her impatience at that moment in time.
A slight twitch betrayed her utter contempt and disgust for that fact that she had played into the creatures hands. Thank goodness she had had Megan before that had played out, or she wouldn't have had a chance to later get revenge. But it hadn't been just Megan who had saved her, no it had been the ever quiet Zodiac, who she had known from her days in Tytonidae. Even thinking that night over, her memories were still hazy in how all that had come together, but regardless of how, it had left a debt on her part towards Zodiac.
She was well aware, that many might not have come to her aide while she lay dying. Which most the time, suited her just fine. She had not taken the gift of immortality to make friends and party all night as it seemed so many others had. She was quite content to have a few close associates and friends, and keep everybody else at car length from her. But that had been one night, it had been useful the Zodiac had turned out to be such a loyal and true Allie.

Re: Moonlight and Lillies[Pathday 3]
Memory 6 : Part 2
Black eyes studied the pond in front of her, one she hadn't paid attention to due to being lost in her memories, and what seemed to be lilies glinting off the water.
Thinking of Zodiac, reminded her of a few of her Docere siblings who while they might not strictly be considered friends, had some of the same steadfast qualities that had drawn her to the other woman. A brief thought was given to Prudence, a character of a woman who most the time couldn't be bothered to hold her tongue and of Wendigo who seemed to have clarity of vision among the masses of sheep that simply wanted everybody to get along and play nicely.
Perhaps this city wasn't as lost as she feared, despite some of the more truly gray matter lacking types who seemed to want to control or sabotage everything in their path, their were those who held themselves to that higher standard as she herself did. True humans had invaded their most precious resource of the crownet, and the Crow itself seemed to have been beaten down by the idiot masses, but this simply meant that perhaps it was time to have her back up plans in place while she waited for the moment to prod her other long term plans into fruition.
Her phone buzzed, distracting her from the trance of thought she had been in, a text from Megan on whether more weapons were needed to be stocked up.
Bringing the keypad up, she typed a reply and then stood up, stretching the kinks out of her body. She hadn't realized how lost she had been feeling as of late until this deluge of memories had reminded her what needed to be fought for and preserved. The gift that she herself tried not to take for granted.
