A history
History was never an important thing to me as a young man. I was too busy being young. Too caught up in myself. Trying to hard to be what I was not. Trying to be white. I am not white. I will never be white. It took far too long for me to come to terms with this. And as I have, I see the world around me through different eyes. I see the changes that time had wrought and I am perplexed.
The old fathers spoke of a time much like we see now, but it was many generations ago. I was young when I heard the stories. I did not pay attention. I was too busy being stupid. But the number of missing persons grow. Missing young. Many of them First Nations peoples. The authorities call them 'persons that lead vulnerable lives'. They do not want to see what I see. There is something hunting us, and the authorities do nothing.
So starts my quest and history to find what hunts our people.

Re: A history
Chaz: Chaz sat on the sofa of a very neatly kept house. He could tell there home was a home of love. Mementos of past generations were displayed with obvious pride. He had a notepad and pen in his hand. He smiled appreciatively at the elderly woman as she sat refreshment beside him. He waited until she had settled herself, before explaining why he was there. “Thank you for your hospitality. As I said, I heard about your granddaughter going missing. So many of our young have gone missing. I was hoping to ask you for details..”
Tabitha: She stared at him with old hawk eyes for a long time. He was one of the youngsters who had been playing with her grandsons, teaching them bad habits and skipping school with them. But suddenly she had stopped seeing him in the boys' group. "So. Now you work for the paper, is it? That's better'n selling cans and mowing lawns."
Chaz: Chaz could not lie to her. "I have an application into the newspaper. I am not hired yet. But even if I do not get hired..I will get this published. So many are missing. And no one does anything. My grandfather came to me in a dream. He was an eagle. He said I would endure hardship, and I would find answers if I kept at it. Anything you can tell me.. would help. Your granddaughter, did not lead a risky life. All the elders say she was good and wholesome. And yet she went missing."
Tabitha: "The elders misunderstand," the old woman said, then lifted her cup with a frail hand and took a tremulous sip. "They are leaving because there is nothing here for them. Nothing but poverty and lazy self entitlement. Too few who are willing to work hard." Ruth had been a good help to the family, but her sights were not set upon the future of the tribe as a whole.
Chaz: "Old Mother.. yes.. some of our youth are leaving for a better life. This I do not disagree with. But there twenty-seven of our youth missing. Twenty-seven,.. that have never been heard from again. Twenty-seven that have missed the family traditions. That have not called. Not been seen. Not been heard of.. since they were reported missing. Those who left for a better life, send money home. They call. They visit. But the twenty-seven do not. Help me find their killers.. please?"
Tabitha: "Killers? There are no killers. Ruth is fine. She came to visit me, and she said, she said that she was sorry she couldn't come back. I looked into her eyes and I knew! That girl had a new life. Seemed a bit pale though. And cold. Only old women like me should be that cold all the time." She laughed, then coughed. Then refilled Chaz's sweet tea.
Chaz: "You have seen her? When? No on at the council knew of this.. " Chaz scribbled on his pad. He was glad. He knew the hardships this family had been through. Losing their one decent offspring would spell doom for them. "Ruth may be fine.. and I am pleased to hear this. But there was twenty-six more that need to be brought home”
Tabitha: "Well none o them visited me. But Ruth is alive. She told me she lives in Harper Rock," the old woman announced with great pride. "That girl is going to do great things."
Chaz: Chaz nodded. "I am sure she will." He had the wind knocked out of him. How could convince anyone that there was a problem, if his own people did not see it. His shoulders slumped. "Thank you for your hospitalitiy. I am pleased for your granddaughters good fortune."
Tabitha: She was pleased that someone was finally listening to her. Ruth's own parents had agreed with Tabitha, but she had seen the pity in their eyes. Thought she was on her way soon to go be with Grandfather, thought she was going senile. This boy was alright. She smiled warmly, peeking out at him from behind her wrinkles.
Chaz: Chaz smiled the best, that he muster at her. She was so much like his own grandmother, frail but still in possession of her faculties. He had seen how others had treated their elder with disrespect. And he was guilty of this as well. It gave him a heavy heart. He wished he could go back in time and hear the old stories again. He had an idea, "Old Mother.. you know of the old ways. Tell me the story of how the spirits talked to us... I would like you to share it, if you would permit?"
Tabitha: "When you go into the mountains, the spirits will talk to you. If you are quiet and respectful, and if you have been very good, the thunder of the mountain will resonate in your soul and speak to you. You will hear it and only then will you understand what you must do. The solidarity your spirit shares with the earth will give you clarity, then you will know exactly what to do. But it will be hard work! My Ruth always did do hard work. And now she has talked to the spirits, and knows the path to take." If only Tabitha was right about that. Ruth was lost in the shadow realm at that moment, but she was ready to return soon.
Chaz: Chaz nodded. "I go the highest sacred point,.. and I commune with nature.. yes my grandfather spoke of this.. but Old Mother, I have never done this.. what should I take with me? What should I not take? I do not want to anger the spirits ...I only seek enlightenment.."
Tabitha: "Take food, but don't be gluttonous. Take water, but don't waste it. If you see objects that you are drawn toward, it is a trick. Just go on and leave them there. Then sit down and clear your mind of all troubles. They will try to ruminate in your soul. Don't let them deafen you to the spirits. They can teach you so much." After saying so much, the old woman coughs. It sounds like her lungs are trying to give out.
Chaz: "Old Mother.. are you alright?" He got his feet. moved to her side and crouched by her. "I should call your Ruth.. you are not well.. She would want to be here with you. I could go get her. Where can I find her?"
Tabitha: "Harper Rock," she kept saying as her world faded into blackness. "She is in Harper Rock."
Chaz: "Old mother.. " Chaz reached out to hold her hand. "Old Mother!" Her hand was slack. Chaz reached a slow hand to her neck to feel for a pulse. He felt what he thought could be a pulse, but regardless he reached for his tract phone and dialed emergency services. "Please come now.. " He gave the address, and stayed where he was holding her hand.

Re: A history
I went to visit Ruth’s grandmother this evening. I am glad I went. She was a very pleasant woman with pride for her granddaughter Ruth showing in her words.
I did not know what to make of her words when she said she had seen Ruth, after so many said she went missing. She was adamant. She had seen Ruth since the time her brothers last saw her. Was the Old Mother’s mind playing tricks on her? Had she really seen Ruth, or was it just a wishful thought?
If she did see Ruth, why did Ruth leave in the first place? Was she pregnant and did not wish to bring shame on the family? Enough time would have passed to make that a viable solution, but was that the answer? Had the Old Mother just wanted to believe so much, she made it a reality in her own mind?
I will never find the answers to these questions. While I was with the Old mother, she made her peace and joined the afterworld. I stayed with her through her journey. I can say it was peaceful and without pain.
Emergency Services said all should be so lucky, to have an end as such. If Ruth has traveled there ahead of her, I hope the two have become reunited. If Ruth remains earthbound, I hope I find her, for I would want to tell her of her grandmother’s journey.

Re: A history
Tabitha: Ruth was traveling much lighter than usual. She had left her knapsack at home and was only carrying a handgun hidden under her coat. Having old bones meant that she had to move with caution. She was in no hurry anyway. The young woman in an old woman's body was depressed about what had happened with her best friend marrying, and then having to stay in the shadow realm, and then finding that the morgue had her grandmother's dead body in it. She barely looked at Chaz as she walked by.
Chaz:Chaz did a double take. That was the Old Mother. But it couldn't have been. The Emergency workers said she hadn't made it. He turned and rushed after her. “Old Mother.. wait..” He caught up to her easily, and touched her shoulder gently. “Old Mother.. its me.. Chaz.. I was at your..” He stopped, “Should you be out of the hospital?”
Tabitha: Ruth blinked. She was confused at first. She didn't know this person. But then she blinked again and said, "None of your business." That usually makes people go away. Right?
Chaz: Chaz was taken aback. That response was not what he expected. "Old Mother?" He questioned her, his head shaking negatively like he couldn't make sense of it. Maybe the medical event messed with her memory. And she was scared. "Let me come with you.. I cannot leave you in this part of town alone.." then it dawned on him.. Ruth.. "You are looking for Ruth? Have you seen her? I haven't been able to find her.."
Tabitha: "I am-" she cut herself off, this made perfect sense. This boy almost her age thought that she was her grandmother. He was human and didn't know better. "...looking for Ruth," she finished off in what she hoped was a timely manner. Her mind was racing, she didn't want to hurt Chaz but she had to elude him.
Chaz: "Yes.. I will come with you. This is not a good area, Old Mother." Chaz took her arm and tucked into his elbow, like he would do for his own grandmother. "Are you sure you do not need to rest?"
Tabitha: "I need to sit down," she told him. "...Chad." She leaned delicately on his arm, waiting for an opportunity to scamper off weather she broke bones in the process or not.
Chaz: "Chaz.. Chaska.. " He nodded, "Of course.. there is a cyber cafe just a block away. Its comfortable in there.. and you can rest." He slowed his pace to make sure he wasn't rushing her. "Is there someone I could call.. in case we don't find Ruth?"
Tabitha: "Oh, I think we'll find her," Ruth said carefully. Once in the cyber cafe, she intended to distract him somehow so she could teleport away. Nobody would believe him about seeing grandmother alive again. Yet, what if they all discovered that her body was missing? Perhaps this plan wasn't wise.
Chaz: Chaz didn't want to hurt her enthusiasm, but he had been looking for any and all First Nations people in the city, and the only ones he came across were the males. He had not found one single First Nations female. "Of course, but your grandsons.. shouldn't we call them ..just in case, They will be at the community hall..."
Tabitha: "They know where I am," she lied, trying to sway his mind. Of course she did not know this magic, but she was able to telepathically try and make it sound convincing to him.
Chaz: Chaz wanted to believe her. He really did. And the way she looked at him, like she needed someone to believe her. He had seen how some of the people would ignore the elderly when their minds went. He patted her hand, and opened the door to the Cyber cafe, and motioned for her to go first. He saw they had a cooler, "Would you like a bottle of water?" As he led her to a empty chair.
Tabitha: "Yes please," she said. "You're such a nice young man." The moment he turned his back, she teleported home. She had barely enough anima to do so, but had gotten some by eating spirits in the shadow realm.*
Chaz: Chaz nodded and went to the cooler and collected a bottle of water, paid for it and went back to the table, only to find she was gone. He frowned, and ran to the door, why had she left?! He quickly looked up and down the street. She wasn't there. Wait.. Ladies room.. maybe she needed the ladies! He quickly located it and knocked,..."Grandmother? Are you in there?"
Tabitha: Someone poked her head out of the bathroom. "Can I help you?" She helped the Native man look for the old woman he described. Soon the whole cafe was looking for her. But she must have slipped out. Some even claimed that there was no old woman with him at all when he came in.
Chaz: "No.. She was with me!" He was exasperated. " Check the cameras! You will see!"
Chaz:Chaz did a double take. That was the Old Mother. But it couldn't have been. The Emergency workers said she hadn't made it. Re: A history
I saw Ruth’s grandmother today. I saw and spoke to her. I walked with her, I touched her. We had a conversation. Why is this so strange? Because Ruth’s grandmother died last night. I held her hand while she traveled to be with our ancestors. I was with Ruth’s grandmother when she took her last breath. I was her, I made sure the window was open so her spirit would not be trapped.
It is like the old Fathers said, the dead will come back to haunt you, as Ruth’s grandmother is haunting me. I think it is a sign that I am meant to find Ruth. To bring Ruth home to her family.

Re: A history
Chaz: He glanced at the address he had circled in the newspaper. Roommate wanted. He wasn’t ready to call the person yet. He wanted to assess the neighborhood first. He stopped by a young woman lugging a microwave. “Excuse me .. Could you tell me whether or not this is a good place for bedding down.. renting I mean?”
Dominique: I don’t sleep in a bed... I sleep on the ground in a cozy little bag.
Chaz: And I thought I was broke as ****.. I stay with friends on the Res.. I’m looking to get a place in the city though.
Dominique: She nods then lifts a brow. "Perhaps finding a few needing a place and getting together and going in on sharing a place is an idea. Give it some thought. Many people do that now. Though I have been sleeping in a tent since I arrived.
Chaz: Yea, most of the people I know in the city.. I don't really want to .. um.. spend time with. I don't want to be guilt by association. So it makes it a bit harder .. though I have a line a job at the newspaper.. hopefully that will pan out.
Dominique: Well, don’t blame you there. It’s why I have been sleeping in a tent in the woods. Closer to nature and keeping my head clear instead of getting caught up in the instant gratification and needing to be someone’s someone or something out of loneliness, ya know. One of those things where you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Best to see if it comes to you and keep your head straight while it doesn’t.
Chaz: He looks at her in an accessing way. "You've probably seen some interesting things.. I am trying to information about the missing in the city. Any information you could share? Like areas you stay away from.. "
Dominique: "Well..." She couldn’t help but take in his face with an appraising focus. She was sensing much could be learned from this one as well. She looked just to the left of him as if something else was there but there was nothing. She just didn't like to stare long. Especially at a man that was asking her about those missing numbers she had heard about earlier. Several times in fact. She likely was one of them just transplanted and running a few steps ahead of what was truly responsible for the numbers that were growing. "Anything that seems to stand still and doesn’t blink? Dark places when alone?"
Chaz: keys in on her comment about stand still and doesn't blink. That hit a chord of memory, but it was elusive, there, but just out of reach. The stories spoke of such ones.. but the details he couldn’t recall the details. Dammit. He should have listened better as a child. Something about the spirits that could take over a person... His gaze intent on her now. "Yes.. things exactly like that..." The young people were broke up to respect the spirits and supernatural, if they thought they were witnessing it.. they would not be afraid.
Dominique: She couldn’t help but wonder where all these complicated and fascinating people were coming from. Missing numbers were evidently high. She could not deny that but at the same time so were the numbers of those who about her were dark and mysterious in the most unthinkable and beautiful ways. She was repulsed by some but all that more intrigued by others. "So you have noticed such things as well?"
Chaz: wanted to say he had, but he hadn't. "I have not. But I believe there are such things. The old ones speak of them. The say they are an evil from old times. But, my interest is in the missing. There are too many. Not all of them can be runaways. And they all disappear here. In this city. But no bodies are found. No dumping ground. Sightings happen, but when camera footage is reviewed.. it is inconclusive. I intend to find out what is happening. You could help me.
Dominique: "I think one place that is a good start. Not sure if it’s what you are looking for but I have heard there had been a body or two seen floating in the docks down by River Rock area. Can’t be certain though because it was some old guy that mentioned it to me once. then again the same old guy was asking for a twenty and hanging outside a strip club he was just bounced out of. I suggest staying away from that side of town if you are new." She pressed her lips together giving what she was about to say a little more thought. "Have you gave any thought that some may never want to be found and aren’t exactly loss or missing?"
Chaz: nodded solemnly. "Yes. There are those that would prefer to put their past behind them. Have a new start, leave the Res behind. But they would still contact their family. Family is important. They may not want to embrace who they really are, but they would not shun their family. There are twenty-seven missing First Nations people. Three of those may not want to be found. But the other twenty-four.. ? No. They do not have the means or ambition to be so thorough."
Dominique: She realized he had a point. It was not something she could blame the man for wanting to resolve. He had a duty as it seemed all did to do the right thing and his concern only heightened her own within towards her responsibilities she had weighing on her own shoulders. If she helped him could she indirectly be helping her own cause as well? It was worth the time finding out. "Yes, you are right. It doesn’t make sense. If I can help I will." She meant it. She had no choice. She had marks to remind her of the choices she made and the cause she took up. It appeared they both were hoping to make a difference, closure perhaps, resolution and maybe even change if it were possible in the reality that surrounded them.
Chaz: nodded his thanks. "I will be grateful for your help. I am Chaska Bates, everyone calls me Chaz. And if I can help you, you have only to ask." He pulled a small notepad, that he kept notes in. He wrote his name and the number to his tracfone on it, and offered it to her. In his thoughts he worried for her safety, but she had the look of someone who did not want to be lectured. Why she lived in the rough, he did not know, but he wouldn’t judge. He would accept her as she was. Sometimes the best thing you could do for someone was to let them help themselves.
Dominique: She took the number and in turn pulled out her phone and began a faster than usual movement of her fingers without thinking. In no time she had entered his number he just gave her and sent a text to it. -Hello Chaska Bates. My name is...Dominique. Some call me Mini or Dom. Only one calls me Minx. Call me- She smiled as she hit send. She did it. She admitted her name to one stranger who was not so strange anymore. She pocketed her phone and looked at him.
Chaz: had thought she was merely putting his number in her contacts, he didn’t expect the text, and so was a bit taken aback when he received it. He glanced at it, and then her, smiled. "What do you prefer to be called? It is not for me to decide. You own your destiny. You should name it." he looked at bit sheepish, as he admitted, "I do not text much. I suppose I will have to practice.. " It was the truth. The elders frowned on texting in the community hall. The hall was a place for speaking and sharing, not silent one sided conversation.
Dominique: "Now you have my number Chaska. Maybe if time allows us to get to know each other than my spirit will reveal more of what my chosen name should be?" Perhaps she was not meant to be Jane Doe as was on her birth certificate back in the states. Maybe it was yet to be revealed. His hair was really stunning and now she was distracted by something she shouldn't be. Something about it made a person want to reach out and touch it. She never thought that before. Her brow wrinkled in confusion and her fingers pulled back the dark length of her own curls and she folded her arms at her midriff.
Chaz: nodded and smiled. She was like the fox. The fox was small and fast, but it was also a very sly opponent. It was a master at subverting the best traps, and raiding the most protected pens, while looking so small and unassuming. He got the impression she was very much like the Fox. “Yes, the spirits will tell you in time, what your true name is.”
Dominique: Her eyes were usually dark and warm but now a twinkle of delight set in. He was thinking and quiet. Something about that combo always had her grin a little. Could be a good thing or a bad thing but she liked it none the less. "I look forward to it. And, of course, to hearing from you, Chaska." She was not expecting to meet this one at all and now she was already looking forward to hearing from him. Highly odd for one so solitary and content as she was.
Chaz: "And I from you, Dominique." It was a good event, this random meeting. It was an example that clearly showed outward looks can be deceiving, and one must look beneath the surface to get a reading on how deep things really are. And in this case, it appeared to be deeper than first presumed. Perhaps this random meeting was far from random, the spirits sometimes knew what we needed before we did.

Re: A history
The Spirits have found favor with me. I am now a reporter for the Harper Rock News. I even have my first assignment. To cover a super hero style party. And even though I have very connections to this city, one of my most recent acquaintances is involved in the party. We are to meet up later to discuss it. I really hope this is on the up and up. I like her.
I have begun my search for a room for rent here in the city. The elders frown on this. they want the young people to stay on the Res. But I need to find out what is happening to the people of this city. And if I stay on the Res, I am hampered because I do not have my own transport, and even if I did, the cost of fuel makes it cost prohibitive. So I will suffer the displeasure of the Elders, for the greater good.
I have furthered my search for Ruth. I have shown her photo around, but no one is willing to acknowledge they knew her, much less have seen her. Ruth's grandmother now eludes me. I know she watches me. I can the eyes of someone watching me, yet there is no one there. Ruth's Grandmother could not keep her earthly form. It is as the old fathers said, when the spirit departs the body, if it lingers too long on the earthly plane, it becomes corrupted and turns evil. So She watches me from the spirit plane.
Ruth is young, as I cover the party, I will look for Ruth. Maybe I will be successful, for no other reason than she needs to know her Grandmother has moved on. If it were my grandmother, I would want someone to find me.

Re: A history
No luck finding Ruth at the party. The party was actually clean fun. There was the odd incident with the discharge of a firearm, but it was quickly sorted and the fun resumed. I spent most of the night watching and observing. I still feel somewhat like the outsider looking in. Dominique took pity on me and spoke to me.
I think she will settle down here in Harper Rock. I just hope she doesn't go the way of the transients lifestyle. It is a 'vulnerable lifestyle' as the cops would like to say. The temptation to get sucked into the life of drugs and over indulgence is a real threat. More so in the last few years than ever before.
I ran into another First Nations person the other day. She was young, not 20s, but there was something about her, that seemed familiar. Yet I didn't know her from the Reservation. I think my staring at her put her off. She made a point of waving her wedding ring every change she got.
Need to do some research on the history of Harper Rock and the stories the elders tell of strong spirit activity around the city.

Re: A history
“Hiya Chaz.. why don’t you call me anymore..? We had fun didn’t we?” The petite blonde, with the pale blue eyes and porcelain skin, smiled beseechingly at him, “I remember you used to tell me, that I was all you needed to stay warm at night.. why did stop calling me Chaz.? I thought we had something.. call me Chaz...” She was dressed in a white cotton midriff top and daisy dukes, with a pair of medium heeled slides. She tossed her long blonde back over her shoulder in an alluring and provocative way. “Chaz...” She batted her lashes at him, and smiled again.
Chaz was awakened suddenly by a crashing in the room next to his. The vision of the Blonde in the dream abruptly faded as he bolted upright in his bed. Damn neighbors! This was the third damn time this week! He looked at the clock. Two am. Another crash followed by a sound of hushed giggling. Chaz sighed and raked his hair back. Tomorrow he was buying earplugs.
Chaz covered his head with his pillow, hoping to block out the noises from room next to him. Every time it seemed as if he was about to doze off, the Blonde reappeared, whispering at him. He knew her. How did he know her? It was that elusive memory that nagged him at him. He laid awake for the next two hours, trying to get to sleep, but sleep evaded him. The image of the blonde burned in his memory.
At four am, he gave up every pretence of trying to sleep when the neighbors started round two of wall thumping. He reached over and turned the radio on, loud. He didn’t give a damn at this point if someone complained, he was itching for a fight. However no one complained, and he leaned back in the bed, thinking back. Sheena. The blonde’s name was Sheena. Sheena what? It was important, he didn’t know why it was important. But it was.
It ate him all for the next few hours. It was as though the more he remembered the more it important it seemed to him to figure it out. Chaz headed to one of the internet cafe’s and tried doing a search for her. But a google search with keywords, Sheena, Blonde, Harper Rock brought up way too many porn sites for his comfort.
Chaz broke down and called one of his old friends, Eric. “Yes.. it has been a long time.. I been having a reoccurring dream.. about Sheena. But I can’t remember anything else. Do you know where she is?”
“You are seriously fuckin asking me this man? You don't remember what happened to Sheena? Chaz man.. she disappeared, you were the last person to see her.. You don’t remember getting rousted by the cops man? You were prolly too high huh?” Eric laughed. It was one of those, ‘those were the days’ kind of laugh.
“She disappeared?” Chaz went cold. How could he have forgotten such a big thing as that?!
“Yea.. We were having a party in our usual spot north of the Res.. by the lake. You and Sheena went for a ‘walk’, you came back.. she didn’t. You said couldn’t remember what happened.. I guess you really don’t remember!” Eric laughed heartily, “I thought you were lying man.. That’s hysterical! All this time I thought you off’ed that *****, and you don’t remember!”
Chaz was nauseous. How do you ******* forget something like that? A girl goes missing, he was the last to see her, and he forgets it all? Did he do it? Did he kill her and block it from his mind? “Did I have blood on me?”
“No man.. you didn’t have any scratch or abrasions.. the cops said.. you were clean. You passed the polygraph.” Eric paused, “Hey man,.. why don’t you come ‘round anymore? Listen we will go get some beers, and there are a couple of girls here who are just dying to meet you! We’ll party like old times. What ya say..?”
Chaz rang off, he couldn’t even remember what excuse he used. He had to think. Why didn’t he remember Sheena went missing? And why did it suddenly seem so important to him? It had to be important. Dreams were important. Dreams told the unconscious mind, something the conscious mind was missing. He headed back to his boarding room, to think.
Now he could see her clearly, in his mind. He remembered her name too. Sheena Winston. She was 22 years old. She had just finished beauty school.. she was going to be a hair stylist to the stars.. at least that was her dream. She was the one that begged him to grow his hair long. Her face haunted him.
Chaz stewed over Sheena all day, into the evening. For the first time in a long time, he was tempted to go get a drink. But he knew if he did, it would be all over. He needed to remember Sheen for a reason.. but what that reason was eluded him.
He was tired, no sleep the previous night, and gut wrenching thoughts that he might be a murderer wore on him. He laid down, and was almost asleep, when he awakened by a crash on the wall by his bed. “God DAMMIT!”
In the background the radio still played, the the music faded as the announced in true radio DJ how format started his announcements. One Announcement was a contest giving away an apartment. entries had to be received by midnight.
Chaz looked at the clock, he had an hour before midnight. He grabbed his coat, and headed back to the internet cafe. Once at a console, he quickly fired off an email to the prescribed person with the pertinent details. And in the ‘Why I deserve a home in our lovely Canada’, Chaz wrote, “Because Canada is so much lovelier without neighbors that keep me up all night.”
Hell it was a long shot, but maybe the spirits would smile on him.

Re: A history
Chaz spent the night like he spent the one before. Awake dwelling on Sheena. To say he was unnerved by the fact that he was a prime suspect in a two year old missing person case, was putting it lightly. Sleep eluded him. He finally got up and started making notes. He wrote down everything he could remember. It wasn’t a lot.
Sheena Winston. 22. Blonde. About 5’4”. Maybe 100 pounds.
Met her at a party. Party of usual group at Bear’s place in November 2010.
Spent New Years eve at Sheena’s place.
Usual Group status
As Chaz studied the dates, he realized he didn't have any firm dates. He had guestimates. In fact the only firm date he had was Bear’s death. June 10, 2012 the day he woke up and quit blaming others for his lot in life, for his heritage, for his anger...
His Anger. He used to be so much more angry. The elders helped him with it. Helped him overcome it. But could he have been so angry in the past that he had killed? Killed and experienced a dissociative fugue?
There was one way he could get some answers, since most of his usual group was dead.. and that was get a copy of the police file. He could say it was for the paper.. for Luffy. He made a call.
Chaz: *calls Luffy on the phone, and hears it ringing*
Luffy: Luffy picks up and talks into the receiver. "Thank you for calling Harper Rock News, this Luffy Editor Extraordinaire, how may I assist you tonight?"
Chaz: Hi Luffy.. It's me Chaska.. I got a line on a story.. but the Cops are giving me grief.. they don't want to release the information to me.. so I said 'what about my editor..' and they were sure, Editor is fine.. but we need his full name. All I Know is .. Luffy.. I need your last name man.. "
Luffy: It's Andren. Which precinct are you at? They should already have my name on file. Unless another Luffy has moved into town.
*Chaz felt a little bad about lying to him, but he needed those police records. He couldn't very well ask the Police for a cold case case file where he was the lead suspect, but if he said he was pick it up for Luffy Andren, Editor of Harper Rock news.. well then.. they would give it to him, right?* "Moss End precinct.. "
Luffy: "Okay. They probably should already have my name. Worse comes to worse, tell them it's for Luffy the Viking. I know they're gonna have that on file." He leaned back in his chair and stretched. "Whatever it is you're looking into, be careful."
Chaz nodded, "Yea you don’t have to say that twice.. " Most people would be happy that the Police weren't hounding them when they were the main suspect, but Chaz just couldn't get over the fact he had blocked it from his mind.. blocked it until.. something.. something triggered a latent memory. But what that trigger was, he hadn't figured out yet. He was hoping the police file would give him a heads up. A lead. Something. "Thanks man..."
Luffy: "Any time Chaz. And hey, good job on that last story. If you can a follow up on it should the police get any new information, feel free to run with it."
Chaz replied, “Sure thing.. I will see what they say.." he paused, then added, "Thank again!" he rang off.

Luffy: "Any time Chaz. And hey, good job on that last story. If you can a follow up on it should the police get any new information, feel free to run with it."
Chaz replied, “Sure thing.. I will see what they say.." he paused, then added, "Thank again!" he rang off.
