“This is the last of them Master.”

Micah turned and grabbed the last few gun parts that Bunny had gathered for him and stuffed them into the duffle bag he’d been putting together for Vel. Decent parts had been hard to come by as of late, even on the auction so he hadn’t bothered to hand the rare few off until he had a decent amount saved up for her to work with. Some he’d found in the castle, some Bunny had found in the slums and some had’ been purchased. Those combined with the few decent guns he and the thrall had found should give Vel something to work with for a few nights at least. Now all he had to do was find her.

Bunny went on her way and once she was gone Micah started searching the Eyrie for his wayward wife but she was nowhere to be found. Not all that unusual but she usually left some form of communication just in case. In the rare case she didn’t do that it was either because she didn’t expect to be gone long or she figured he’d just contact her, which he’d just been about to do when her voice entered his mind. It was, as it always was, a welcome distraction. On my way. I have a surprise for you. Once his message had been pressed into her mind he gathered the duffle bag and headed through the portal that would drop him beside the elevator in the hotel.

His gaze zeroed in on his wife at once and he started to make his way towards her when he spotted someone he’d never seen before. His hand went to his back pocket where his gun rested, well within his reach in case he needed it. Vel seemed to be comfortable so the girl didn’t seem to be a threat but it didn’t mean Micah was all too pleased with someone that he’d never met before in their hotel. Approaching Vel he dropped the bag on the counter and turned to the new chick. “Who the **** are you and how the **** did you get in here?”

Walking around Kristi found doors at the end of each corridor that would not open no matter how hard she pulled. The knobs turned but the door would not open. A short while after holding the knob, she felt a tiny shock like electricity had run up her hand from the knob. With a curious stare she tried again, and the same thing happened. Was this a new kind of guard? She had encountered many traps before and had disabled them easily enough, but nothing like this.

She pulled her attention away from the door when Velveteen decided to speak again.

Name change? Sure, why not. Honestly it would be the perfect opportunity for her to be rid of the name that affiliated her with people who never was there for her. To her, Zaleski, which was supposedly her family name was just a word to fill forms, just to let people know she had come from someone’s womb, not an android or whatever it was people imagined. There was no pride in keeping it or being called by it. The last name simply held no meaning for her to continue clinging onto.

Now the only thing making her hesitate was, why the sudden change? She could understand if it were mere kidnapping but Blake had said he wanted her for something. Was it an illegal business after all? Her mind spun with possibilities to her questions but she could not help but feel like there was a crucial piece of the puzzle she was missing.

Familiar sounds of a rasp scraping against the insides of a gun brought Kristi wandering back to the lobby. With eyes clouding over, Kristi watched metal shavings fall onto marble glazed counters. It was weird that she could see it from where she was, almost seemed to slow down whenever she wanted it to too. The action reminded her of the time when she was younger and her brother would spend what little time he had at home outside the house fiddling with his guns. She would watch him from afar afraid to disturb him and end up falling asleep only to wake up hours later and find him gone again.

Too soon, the sound of scraping stopped and Kristi’s memoirs were forced to end. Seeking answer to why the movement had stopped, she looked up to see silver eyes glazed over as if they had entered the world of dreams.

‘Oh.....kay.’ Then her soul seemed to return and Kristi pretended she had been looking elsewhere as the raven haired lady walked up to her.

At Velveteen’s random question, Kristi found herself learning another fact about her. Australian. She’d been to the country once. They had started out camping on a farm but ended up on the roadside after her brother (who had a short fuse) beat up some poor animal that just so happened to annoy him. They’d gotten chased out by the owner immediately and that was how they ended up on the roadside. A frown marred her features at that recollection.

“Quarantine area? When did that happen?” She asked.

Just then, her senses pricked and her body went rigid as she watched the figure of a person materialise out of thin air beside an elevator she had failed to notice before. The figure was clearly male and upon seeing Velveteen, he approached them. It was evident that he had not expected to see her here when his hand moved to his back pocket which she assumed was where he kept his weapons. The contents of the bag he placed down on the counter clinked together, the sound of metal suggesting more gun parts which did nothing but kept Kristi watching them vigilantly.

“Was dropped off here according to her.” She explained shortly while keeping her gaze fixed on the newcomer, gaze uncannily similar to a snow leopard eyeing what it deemed to be a threat.

"Mmmm." Velveteen smiled as her husbands thoughts pressed against her mind. She did like surprises, particularly from her husband. "Umm...a couple of years ago. Surely as a local you'd know about it. The army is all over that ****." Her silver gaze was only half focuses on the barrel she held up to look through as she continued to watch the younger female.

Her attention shifted as Micah arrived, which she knew without seeing him, she could just sense when he was nearby and her smile spread in response as she looked up. The bag he carried was every clue she needed as to the surprise he had for her. It was about time she had some better quality parts to work with. There was only so much you could do with cruddy parts. A polished turd was still, after all, a turd. She cooed softly eager to start digging about the depths of the bag when again she was distracted.

Her silver orbs turned on Xylia. "She is... Blake's new childe. Freshly turned. Doesn't even know yet. I don't know where Blake got to. Kristi, this is my husband, Micah. Babe, this is Kristi." Her hand moved through the air between them as she made the introductions. "Supposed to make sure she don't go anywhere. I can't decide if I should tell her or not, give her some weapons and be done with it. If Blake don't get his *** back here soon, might just have to just do that."

Velveteen jumped up on the counter and spun half circle on her butt so that her legs draped over the opposite side and she reached out to curl her fingers in the the front of his t-shirt and dragged him closer to steal a quick kiss that was followed by a soft purr. "I don't suppose you saw him at the Eyrie?"

Micah narrowed his eyes at the girl. He hadn’t failed to notice her rigid posture, but her comfort was the last thing on his mind. This was his hotel. Vel’s hotel. As far as he was concerned she didn’t belong there. “Don’t think I care too much for your tone, girl.” She was probably going to hate him by the time it was all said and done, but that was something else that he didn’t care about. There were only a handful of people in the city that he gave even the slightest **** about and this one taking up space in his hotel just wasn’t one of them.

He turned his attention to his wife, already dismissing the unwelcome visitor from his mind as he watched Vel go through the bag of parts he’d brought for her. The killer could tell by the look on her face that she was pleased with what he’d delivered to her. He was surprised that she hadn’t opened the bag and started to sort through them but apparently she had other things on her mind.

“So you have a name, do you?” Blake’s childe. Family, through Blake who Vel had taken in ages ago. Well ****. Looks like she’d be sticking around then. “What do you mean she doesn’t know?” His brow furrowed and he looked from Vel to Kristi. “You mean he’s not told her anything? Just...dumped her here for you to take care of?” That didn’t sit well with him. This...Kristi, she wasn’t Vel’s responsibility and he would be damned if his wife spent her evening babysitting a freshly turned vampire because her sire was busy doing other things.

The killer allowed himself to become distracted briefly by the kiss Vel planted on him. It was over far too soon allowing him to return to the subject at hand. “I didn’t, no. And it ain’t your responsibility to tell her **** but if he ain’t here then someone had to do it. Ain’t exactly fair to leave her here wondering what the **** has happened to her. Besides, I got plans for you that don’t involve an audience.” He gave her one of those grins that she knew all too well.

Couple of years ago… What had she been doing then? Running from hunters? Making weapons in an underground hideout? Selling drugs for pocket money? She could not remember and was not about to give a damn either. Local? No, she was no local. She had merely followed her brother into Harper Rock when she was 10 to stay for less than a year before they needed to move again. Army personnels crawling around inside a quarantined zone? Now that was interesting. Were they secretly experimenting on drugs? Making a new kind of weapon? Or were they turning it into some kind of lunatic base, cause this town sure has an outbreak of them.

The topic of the quarantine zone was soon pushed to the back of her mind upon unexpectedly being confronted by the muscle packed guy.

When she felt it was safe, she let her guard down the slightest allowing her stinging back wound some room to rest. Mr Fucktard had hit her good. She swore she felt blood flowing out but when she reached behind to touch her lower back where the blood should have been, there was no wet soaked patch there.

She looked at the guy weirdly. Don’t care for her tone? Why would he in the first place? Was he training to be a father around here? She looked at Velveteen for a moment before shrugging it off and looking elsewhere.

As the conversation went on between the two, Kristi’s pale blue orbs shifted back and forth between them.

Blake’s new what? (Child? Was she hearing things? If she remembered correctly her father had looked nothing like Blake.) Freshly turned? (Freshly turned psycho maybe, but she still felt pretty sane.) Doesn’t know what? What the **** is going on? Kristi tuned out of their conversation and tuned it to her own thoughts. Were they a part of that psycho’s organization? Had he returned? Was that it?

Questions, questions. Endless amount of questions.

Huh. So Velveteen had not been that Blake guy’s girlfriend. Why had she looked at her that way then?

She looked at the man she now knew as Velveteen’s husband, Micah with a bored expression. Of course she had a name. Everyone has a name. It’s the first thing they’re ‘gifted’ with when they come into the world, or so said the book she read.

Whichever angle she viewed the situation, nothing made sense. Something was weird, out of the ordinary, or rather wrong would be the more appropriate word. Kristi paused in thought. When had anything she ever did been good anyways? She’d been practically forced into this life.

Upon hearing Micah’s words to Velveteen, an unwelcomed thought crossed her mind before she tossed it out of her mind like a pest, her usually stoic face twisting in disgust before she schooled it again.

“Tell. Me. What?” She asked, her expression a mix between annoyance and frustration. If there was one thing she’d hate in the world, it would be being ignorant. Murder was in her eyes and she was about ready to slaughter someone for her answers. What she did not know was, it would be near impossible to even land a finger on her opponents.

Kristi was starting to feel light headed. Blood loss immediately came to mind. She was one unhappy woman.
