To sleep, perchance to dream...

Post by Scorpia »

I'm only eighteen...

She whispered to no one but herself. This really was too much for her. She was married to Micah but they had grown apart. Neither of them had been at fault. She still cared about Micah and she knew that Micah cared about her. They had agreed that they would still lead the family together, which was fine by her. Both she and Micah had worked too hard bringing their lines together just to throw it all away because their relationship was not what they wanted. What it boiled down to was Scorpia just sucked when it came to love. It made no sense to her… None at all, not like killing did. That made sense, simple and easy, no questions asked.

Sliding under the cool sheets of her bed she rested her head on the pillow. Alone... All alone. It had never really bothered her until now. Even when she was human, she had been a loner. The only difference then from now was that she had been known as Megan. Sighing softly she touched the simple gold chain that she wore around her neck. There was nothing fancy about it, just a simple chain that held no charm. A lot like her... Plain.

Rolling onto her stomach she found a comfortable spot. Cuddling a pillow she held on to it wishing she could make the loneliness go away. One more deep breath the little blonde let out slowly and started to drift off to sleep.

Slowly her eyes opened again and she was no longer in her home. She was out in the woods by Hunter Hill. A mist covered the ground as she step cautiously trying to remember how she had ended up there. It was then something caught her eye. It was a man walking towards her. The moon shown down on him as if he were some kind of God. She wasn't afraid, merely intrigued that he had appeared out of nowhere. With each slow step he came closer to her. His body became more defined yet his face was still a blur.

Scorpia...

Her name was whispered; his voice coming from no certain direction. Instead it seemed to move around encircling her. It sounded so familiar but she couldn't place it. The owner of the voice was on the tip of her tongue. Lost in her thoughts of trying to figure out who he was she looked up to see he was right in front of her. A strong hand touched her cheek caressing it slowly; she held her head a little higher trying to look into his eyes. But she still could not bring his face into focus. She had to know who this man was. Where did he come from and why the hell did it feel like she knew him.

Who are you?

He didn't answer her right away. Just leaned down and pressed his lips to her throat. A shiver went down her spine. She fought the urge to press closer to the mystery man. She inhaled his scent. Again a faint memory was triggered in her mind. Why couldn't she place him?

You know who I am. When you are ready to truly open your heart you will see that I have marked your heart just as you have marked mine. Don't be afraid my little scorpion. When the time is right everything will become clear to you.

She then felt as if she was falling backwards. Darkness was embracing her in its cold dark arms. She was falling into what she thought was a bottomless hole. At least she thought it was until her *** hit something hard. Scorpia's eyes opened and she found she was on the floor of her bedroom. It was just a strange dream. She really had to learn to stop watching TV before she went to bed. Laughing at herself she stood up gathered her blankets that were pulled off when she took her tumble to the floor. Throwing everything back on the bed, she went to the window to take in some of the cool air. Pulling back the curtains she gasped. A single red rose rested on the windowsill. No one had access to her home. So how did this rose get here?

Confusion started to set in as she picked up the rose and gently caressed her lips with the soft petals. Her cheeks flushed as a thought came to mind.

Was that really a dream?

There was not much going on. Things at the VN were going great. The Sangue... well there were Sangue. They didn't need much leading because for the most part they all had good heads on their shoulders. Scorpia was lucky that her line was not one filled with drama or attention seekers. They knew what they wanted and were fully capable of obtaining it. She smiled as she thought of them. Damn proud of them she was, even if she was not the type to tell them or show such kind of emotional with them. She knew they understood her and for that she was grateful.

Scorpia yawned arching her back she stretched her tired body. She knew she was pushing herself lately to become stronger, faster. But if she kept busy with training then she could not think of the mysterious stranger that showed up in her dreams. Because the moment she let her self start to think of him, she would feel a longing for him. It was odd to want someone so badly but not know who they were. Yet in her dreams she knew him. She must know him. Or it could possibly be she was finally losing her minds. She heard tales of some vampires losing their mind. Could she be one of those? If she was losing her mind… How would that explain the very real rose she found that first night? Or the scent of a man in her room?

Another yawn she shrugged her shoulders as if giving up on the thoughts at least for tonight. Stripping out of her clothes she put on an over sized t-shirt then walked around her room to check the windows and the door. Satisfied that she was safe she crawled on to her bed and under her covers. Smiling as her cheek touched the cool pillow. It was one of the few simple pleasures she enjoyed, a cold pillow. Her eyes fell close and she drifted into a deep slumber.

Soft music started to play. At first she thought it was just in her head but it became louder and louder until she could not ignore it. Slowly opening her eyes she blinked a few times, ready to beat the hell out of a neighbor for disturbing her rest. But as her eyes focused what she saw as a shock. In her room was a wooden mannequin wearing a dress and on her dresser next to the mannequin was a mask.. As she stood up to examine the dress and mask she found a note sitting on the dresser that simply read:

Please dress and come to the party.

It was not signed or any other indication of whom the mystery sender may be. The music still playing she figured what the hell it was a dream might as well have a little fun. Amazingly she was able to don the dress without any assistance. Pinning her hair up in a quick and simple up do she place the mask to her face and tided the ribbons behind her head. Once finish she picked up the note again flipping it over to see if there was an address on it and found none. It was kind of odd to be invited to a party and not know where it was held. She thought that maybe since the dress was in her room then perhaps a clue to where the party would be, might be found somewhere else in her abode.

Her small hand turned the doorknob to pull the door open. What she saw baffled her. The living room had been replaced by a grand ballroom, complete with guests and a string band. The guests were dressed in attire much like her. The ballroom itself looked like a page out of history. If she didn't know any better she could have sworn she was looking at the masked carnival held in Venice Italy. But how could that be? She was in Canada.

What the **** is going on here?

Stepping into the ballroom that had once been her living room she looked around in awe. As she turned around to look back into her bedroom she saw that her bedroom door was no longer there. This dream was getting stranger by the minute. Scorpia would had put more thought to what was going on when her ears heard whispers...

She is here... There she is. I can't believe she is here... That must be her.

So who exactly were they whispering about? Curiosity got the best of her and she slowly turned around to stare at the source of the outbreak of whispers. It didn't take long to see that it she was the one that was suddenly the center of attention. Everyone was looking at her and she felt small and shy. Scorpia did not like this kind of attention. She felt the urge to run and hide. To escape the eyes that were on her. Then like Moses parting the Red Sea, the crowd started to part. A man wearing a beautiful period costume with a mask made of gold walk towards her. It was him! The man that has been haunting her dreams! How she knew this she didn't have a clue. The only difference between now and the previous dreams is his face was not a blur. Then again his mask could be the reason why it was not blurry. Scorpia was frozen in place as he approached her.

His stride was slow and one filled with confidence. As he passed the guest of the party each in turned bowed his or her head in respect to their host. The man then stopped in front of her and held out his hand. Whispers started once more as she placed her hand in his. This time she could not make out what was being said. The feeling of being out of her element of comfort took hold of her and she unknowingly squeezed his hand nervously. Pulling her to him in a lover's embrace he whispered in her ear.

Dance with me.

How could she say no to him? His voice was so magical and his arms so strong. The music was heavenly as he led her into the dance. Twirling her around the floor it felt like her feet did not touch the ground. Scorpia soon forgot the eyes that were on her. All she could do was keep her head tilted up and look into the dark orifices that hid the man's eyes. As if under a spell she did not notice how the room around her had disappeared. The music still played by unseen musicians, their dance could have gone on forever and she would not have noticed anything but him. That is until she felt her back against the wall.

The man towered over her, such a powerful figure he was. Placing a hand above her head he leaned in and with his free hand untied the ribbon that held her mask on. Pulling it away from her face, she could feel his gaze on her. Scorpia's tongue slid nervously over her lower lip. There was so much she wanted to say but words refused to spill from her lips. As if knowing what she wanted to say he dropped her mask to the ground and whispered to her in that dark sexy voice of his.

You know who I am my little Scorpion.

With that Scorpia reached up, moving her hands behind the man’s head as she reached over his tall frame. She pulled on the tie of his mask, letting it fall away. Just as she did this, the room fell into darkness, her eyes blurred once more to the face that remained hidden to her eyes. As Scorpia opened her eyes she gasped and sat up, looking around the room from her bed. She stared out through the open doors that led into the living room where the party had taken place in her dreams. There was nothing left, nothing to suggest the night had ever taken place.

Quietly she fell back against the pillows and stared up at the ceiling, racking her mind for some kind of clue as to who the dark stranger was that haunted her in her rest. She did this until sleep took her once again.
