Helping Hand (Lizzie&Henry)

Post by Ember Lee »

Nearly two weeks had gone by since Ember had passed her initiation as a blood thief. The pain caused by the blood was no longer an issue. Nor was the pain of her past a problem. The widespread pain the doctors could never find a source for. All the years of testing, and them telling her it was all in her head. They claimed it all unreal, when some days the pain was so bad she could hardly pull herself from bed. Many of them had labeled her a druggie, even if she had hardly taken the pain medication they gave her. She didn't like the way it made her feel, still half in pain but out of it. Now, she felt stronger; the freedom from the pain was exhilarating. Not to mention the short lived powers she would gain, with drinking vampire blood. She was on her own now, for finding blood.

This was still problematic, but it was easy enough to find; if you were willing to head down into the sewers. A place Ember found discussing, but if she had no other blood source it was worth it; to not have to feel the pain. She never knew the abilities she would end up with. This was why finding vampire connections was so important. They needed blood, and she was willing to offer up some of hers. She had even been told once it tasted quite sweet. What would be so wrong with asking for a sample in trade. Though most vampires simply took what they wanted. On a few different occasions Ember had found herself in an unknown place, not knowing how she had gotten there. A vampire feeding had a way of disorienting a person, but not always. She could remember a time or two with clarity; one she wished to forget.

Ember's journey ended far differently from how it began. The blood thief path had not been one started alone. It was a known fact, not all survived the initiation. Her best friend Willow had not. The loss had been nearly unbearable, but the freedom from pain had helped her through the grieving process. Ember doubted the pain of such a loss, as he best friend, would ever truly fade. She would continue on the path for the both of them now. Along the way, passing on service and kindness whenever she could. This was why her plans for the day involved paying a visit to a local soup kitchen. She had even dressed for the day, a little more professional. By this meaning long sleeves, that covers what tattoos she could. She would even take the time to straighten her hair and remove a few of the extra piercings in her ears.

Her plan was to head in during the early am. Ember was not so much a night owl, as she was one to wake long before the rising sun. She had never slept well, until recently. Still, she was in the habit already of rising early. Before heading to the soup kitchen, Ember would stop to grab an early breakfast, from a 24hr diner. The coffee was terrible, but they had the best pancakes in town. She hung around awhile, chatting it up with a waitress she knew from regular visits. This used to be her and Willows place, but now Ember came alone. It always lightened her spirits, spending time in the places the two of them loved. Taking a coffee to go, Ember would be on her way out.

The sky was still dark, as she walked to the nearest station, to catch a bus. The transit system was her usual form of transportation; though she was saving up for a car. Not that the bus was miserable, but the freedom of her own vehicle would definitely be more enjoyable. Once arriving at her stop, it was only a short walk to her destination. Ember would head to a back intrance of the soup kitchen, stopping the first person she came across who looked like they worked there. "Excuse me. Hello! I was wondering about who I could talk to about volunteering for the soup kitchen? I have experience working in a restaurant; making food, serving and even doing dishes." Rattling off her experience in the food industry, as if this were some type of job interview.

Since their engagement, Henry had been staying over more and more to the point that he had more than just a drawer for his belongings. He had integrated into her home and family smoothly with even getting on the same sleep schedule as her unless he had to work late. With a seven year old that was in school, they had fallen into a normal routine that was much like a human to give Molly a break from parental duties since she wasn't alone as a parent any more. Molly would always be Chelsea's other mother but no need to stress her out by constantly being the parent with Lizzie working evenings. Her jobs were day time jobs except the gallery and theatre which could be run in the evening. It was a good balance when she switched off but she learned to get everything completed in the early evening so that she could be home with her daughter.

As the alarm assaulted her ears, pulling her from the beautiful dreams that she had of her and Henry. A soft sigh slipped from her as she rolled over to turn the alarm off. Stretching for a moment before she looked over and the gorgeous body asleep next to her. A smirk slipped upon her lips as she leaned over, wrapping her arm around him while placing little kisses along his cheek. With each kiss, her mind inched to connect with his before she had a full connection. Carefully she whispered soft words on his mind as the gentle kisses continued. 'Baby, it is time to wake up, we are running late.' Pulling back from kissing his cheek,, she waited to see if he would stir from his slumber.

He had agreed to help her at the soup kitchen since the incident with the soldiers. Lizzie wasn't sure if he was afraid if she would get attacked again or if he was just wanting to be overly protective for any occasion. She couldn't blame him as she would have done the same thing if it was him or the girls that had been attacked. It was a worry that plagued her daily though she wasn't sure why it surprised her since she worked heavily with the human public with her humanitarian work.

Slipping from the bed to get ready for the day so she'd be ready to go when he was. They still had a little time before the sun rose so she let him sleep a little longer unless he was starting to wake up. Pulling out a pair of jeans and a sweater. Once she was dressed, she slipped her feet into a pair of stilettos and fixed her hair into a casual pony tail. It was rare she dressed casually but she looked over at the man she loved, he was the only one that she needed to impress. He was her life.

Letting him get ready, she went to the kitchen to make him a cup of coffee. Normally she would spike it for him but with them heading to Solace, she didn't want to trigger some of the people that were recovering from alcoholism. As the coffee finished brewing, she fixed it to perfection in a travel mug. It was time to get to the church. They were late.

Lily had gotten a text from Lizzie's assistant Molly saying that she was running late. A soft giggle slipped from the woman. It was rare but Lizzie had needed to take some time with what had happened last time. She had began to get the day started with packing and prepping food boxes. They still had a few hours before they needed to start cooking for the breakfast rush. It was better to get a jump start on the books for the food pantry so that they can pass them out after breakfast.

With about twenty boxes sitting on the prep table, there was a voice behind her when someone had entered and stopped a volunteer. Looking at the woman, she smiled as she stepped over to her and placed a hand on the volunteers shoulder letting them know it was okay to get back to work. She would take it from there.

"Good morning. My name is Lily and I am the main volunteer here. Elizabeth is running a little late but you can speak with me. We are always looking for people to help out. What is your name?"
