A normal night

Post by Mason »

What a beautiful thing it was. Casting light on her from so far away. Mason laid on her back staring into the sky, at the moon. She breathed, not from necessity, from a want for familiarity. Her hands brushing against the roof which she was laying atop.

It was this very full moon that made her weak. Her powers reduced to that of a human. And yet, she didn't feel fear. She felt comfort, not safety, but comfort. A reminder that once, she was normal.

"The wild cat looks into its cushioned cage again." The voice was not hers, she recognized it though. Warren's voice. Even if his tone didn't give it away, his words did. He never spoke normally. She was pretty sure she understood what he meant though. He was commenting on that she was remembering her former life. Back when she was human, even before she was a paladin.

Back before she was terrified of the vampires. "You and I made an agreement. You help me track people down that need to be tracked. And don't cause too much trouble, and I let you roam." she said simply. "Do you remember your humanity?"

There was a pause, a long one. She almost wandered if he was still there. Or intended on answering at all. "There is no such thing as an ending. Only the next book. Warped and broken, fixed or protected. Humanity is part one. I am part four."

She let out a sigh. She had no clue what that meant. She continued to stare at the moon. "I used to be normal person. Relatively. Now what am I. A vampire." she spat out the word, "Yet, I still hunt them, even if I'm choosy about who."

"Can you listen to the voices. Remember the deeds. Remember the screams. Watch for the warnings. Look for those hurting." She felt like Warren was right beside her, perhaps also looking at the moon from where he was, "One day the you see this. One day you understand. You watch and hurt that which stays. Why?"

"Can't you speak normal just once? I'm too tired to figure out everything you say. If it means anything." Mason said furrowing her brow.

Warren groaned, "Time will see you. You will remember. You will understand. See where lies reality. Shadows are truth. Flesh is false."

"Just...let me sit alone for awhile." She asked.

"You will be far."

She sat still. She just wanted one night, one day, that was normal. She longed for that.
