Passing the Torch

Post by Mooncalf »

Path of the Vampire is now under new permanent ownership.

I won't be working on the game anymore unless I'm brought in as a freelancer if they ever need me, so all queries should be sent to the new owners from here on out.

I came to this difficult decision after 10 years of working on Path, because it's best for Path. I'm full time in my office job for at least the next year, and I'll be working on other things on my weekends. I don't have the time required to manage such a grand project as Path, with its 100,000 lines of code, massive database, more systems than I can keep track of, and 100+ pages. I might have the time to work on new projects as a hobby, but nothing as massive and time consuming and difficult as Path.

So simply put, the game is in better hands now. It will get more updates, more story content, more bug fixing, and more attention. You'll see the game grow quickly from here on I would guess. I'll let the new owners introduce themselves soon, but please be assured you're in the hands of a group of people who are very much in love with the game and want to restore it and improve it. They have the resources and time, and I believe they'll do a much better job than I've been doing lately.

THANK YOU for 10 years of allowing me to work from home on my first real game, creating something I love for people I like. Thank you so much for all the support, love, and passion for the game. I really do mean that! I'll still be here, playing and lurking and trying out all the new updates to come, so say hi from time to time.

I know some of you will be mad as hell about this, but I stuck this out for as long as I could. For a year or two I was on like £3 per hour while working on Path, and it was just unrealistic for me to be able to do this anymore while also trying to earn a living. So please don't be upset with me, and give the new owners a chance to show that they'll do a better job, because there's more of them and they'll be able to get more done in their spare time as a result.

The game will remain on mooncalfstudios.com for now. As for the future of Mooncalf Studios, I'm working on a
post apocalyptic, futuristic fantasy forum RPG with an original canon, and a game element to it too (not a grid, more of an idle exploration game mechanic). However, this is purely a hobby for me which I'll work on for an hour or two when I get the chance, and by treating it like a hobby rather than a business I hope that the passion will shine through. And because it's much smaller scale than Path (in a coding sense), it's going to be much easier for me to manage on my weekends (without adding too many features and systems and minigames this time! haha). I hope you'll join me for that soon, and I'll keep you posted. If you'd like to support my work on that, please consider subbing to my Patreon. If you've got questions about it, poke me in PM, Facebook, Patreon, Discord, or the ribs.

See you in the shadow realm. <3

First off, thank you, David for this opportunity and all that you have done for Path of the Vampire. We appreciate you wholeheartedly and hope that now, on your days off, you’ll be able to enjoy the fruits of your hard labor as a member among the crowd.

As most of you know us already, we the staff are doing our introduction in two ways. Collectively as a whole, where we want to give you all a brief overview of our plans, and then individually to give a more specific breakdown of who and what we are. Our main priority will be making a smooth transition from previous ownership into current ownership. We will also be focusing on the bugs forum - if you have immediate concerns regarding bugs, please contact Caligrace.

In addition, we will be working on implementing suggestions.

We aren’t here to completely undo everything that he has built and designed, but rather expand and develop the game further. We hope to also implement ideas suggested by the community and our own along the way. With that in mind, as the transition takes place, there will be new roles opening up in our Staff and changes made to make the community more comfortable from this moment forward.

Collectively, we hope that you’ll all continue on this journey with us and wait to see what else we have in store for you.

Individually, we’ll each be saying a few words explaining our decision to purchase the game, what we all bring to the table, and what we hope you’ll enjoy from us.

Thank you,

Claire, Donni, Lana, Joshua, and Kitty.

Hi, all!

I’m Lana - though most of you now know me as Caligrace. I’ve been in the Vampire RPG world for over half of my life now, but I’ve come to love Path more than anything. The community, the story, the grid - it’s always had a special place in my head, and I’m excited to have a hand in improving Path of the Vampire and taking the torch (along with my wonderful colleagues) from David.

He did an amazing job, and I want to keep his dream alive with the same amount of passion that he put forth to make this fantasy world a wonderful place that continues to thrive.

As Donni stated, I’ll be working on the bug side of things, so if you have any questions regarding your current bug or a new one pops up, just post it (or in emergent cases, PM me on the forum). I’ve already been working tirelessly to ensure that the bugs get fixed, and I know that it will be a long process, but I promise to do my very best with speed and accuracy.

I do hope you enjoy this new adventure with us, as we plan to have a lot of interesting and fun changes come in the near future!

Thank you all! <3

Hello, hello!

I'm Claire, another one of the new, dedicated developers to Path of the Vampire. You may know me best as that weirdo, Myk, or you may not know me at all. Either way, I'd like to say a little something about myself and what I'll be doing on Path for everyone.

I joined back in 2011 and have followed the game and story since with intrigue, passion, and a desire to see it last forever. I've played a number of Vampire games in my past, I've been on RavenBlack since 2005, and have always been spellbound by the lore and the opportunities to write with amazing people.

I've always felt that it's the community that really makes Path shine. It's been my goal for a number of years to keep the population rolling, to keep new players coming in, and to sustain the awesome player base we have already. I'm therefore overjoyed to have the opportunity to do this now as a fellow developer to the site.

As a developer, I will be working as a Storyteller whilst also pimping up the lore of the game. I am also going to use my skills as a professional Marketer to get to grips on what we all love about Path, how we can make it even better, and how we go about sharing this special thing of ours with more writers and players out there in the big wide world.

It's going to be a big job, but with the teamwork that we have as 5 developers along with the many of you who've invested so much of your heart into Path, I think we can do it.

Lots of love to you all and I hope you'll continue to enjoy Path of the Vampire for many, many more years to come. <3

Hello there!

I’m Donni, for those of you that do not know. I was more commonly known as Wolf/Saressa in Ravenblack where I played for 10+ years and still dabble in, previously under Inu and now under Daly.

With my colleagues, I decided to purchase Path because I want to see the game thrive. I’m a writer, I want to make it a place for writers to enjoy themselves.

Personally, I’ll be focusing on forum issues and management, as well as doing occasional advertisements. I will be cleaning up the forum and still continuing my duties as site administrator, such as looking for new moderators and handling complaints.

I don’t have any doubts that this will be an adventure for years to come, but I hope that you’ll give us a chance to flourish. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact any of us - we don’t bite. We all want a seamless transition and a clean slate for all.

First and foremost, I'd like to thank David for his years of hard work that's gone into this game. It's a massive product and an honest to goodness labour of love that has been a part of all of our lives for some time. He's done a lot for Path with a tenacious sort of drive and passion, and I'm thankful that I have an opportunity to work on something that's brought so many people entertainment over the years, and to expand upon the legacy that he's established here with a truly fantastic team of people and what I hope will be seen as an equal passion for this project that each of us shares. It's going to be a tremendous pleasure to work with you all moving forward, and I hope that what we build together will be exceptional.

Some of you know me, but my name is Joshua, and I've been a part, albeit a subtle part, of the Path community for many years, across an array of different names and faces, all of them a fantastic piece of my writing history, and a small part of the story that's come so far, and that I hope to continue working on in the years to come.

Primarily, I am going to be working on the coding aspect of the game itself and the Storyteller work of generating and driving chapters and lore alongside some of my fellow developers. It's going to be a great challenge, but there isn't a doubt in my mind that together we're going to do our best as we move forward to build upon what we have here and to make something really special to share with you all.

I want to thank all of you, the community, for being a part of this with us as well, and for helping through the years to make Path what it is today, and for your part in what it will become. I hope that this experience is as awesome for you as it's going to be for us, and I encourage you all to be a part of it. I can't wait to see what we make together, but I'm sure that whatever direction it takes, it will be absolutely marvellous.
