YEARS AGO
Mike was typing away at his keyboard, the plan was to help human and vampire relations by hacking into various government websites to spread the message of peace. He was also looking for videos and such of vampire crime and stating that just as there were plenty of humans out there killing without remorse, vampires were no different than humans in that respect.“This is a bad idea.” Rude robot says, the bot thought everything was a bad idea though.
“It will be alright. I’m being careful.” Mike muttered, taking a large gulp of soda. He had spent a few hours on his college homework and now was doing this. He couldn’t go to bed until he finished what he was doing. He was too far in to just back out now. He rubbed his face. “I’m almost in. This is the important one..” The Canadian government website.
“Time for bed.” Sparks said, flapping his wings from his perch.
Mike shook his head, hoping the two didn’t get into another screaming match. He already got in trouble from his landlord once from their fighting. A rapid beeping alerted him to being traced. His eyes widened and he quickly pulled the plug on his computer. His heart was racing. “****..” he said, standing up and running a hand through his hair as he paced. He sure hoped he pulled the plug quick enough.
He settled down and got ready for bed. It was then when he was about to go to bed that the door was smashed in and a group of heavily armed men came in. He was blinded by the lights at the end of their guns. He raised his hands up to shield his eyes.
“Under attack! Sound the alarm. WHOWHOWHO!” Sparks was freaking out, flying around in a panic.
“Sparks calm down.” Mike said, he didn’t want the bird to get hurt. He ‘accidently’ kicked rude robot under his bed as he was ordered to get on the ground.
He was cuffed and dragged out of his apartment, thrown into a black van.
He found himself cuffed to a table, waiting to be spoken to. He rested his forehead on the cool metal table. Well I just fucked up my life didn’t I. There was no way the college would let him keep taking classes with having a record for hacking. This was the government; it was going to be harsher than just any other hacking. He wanted to keep hidden the fact that he wasn’t a normal human anymore, which shouldn’t be hard. He wouldn’t be able to use any of his powers. God how long was he going to be locked up for though. He wasn’t a minor…oh god. They were going to eat him alive in prison.
He held his head, the clink of the cuffs against the table. What was he going to do? The door opened and he straightened up, wide eyed.
“Mr. Barone. You dug yourself a deep hole.” The man said, sitting down across from him.
“I know…I-I was just trying to help people see that not all vampires are bad.” Mike replied, looking down.
The man didn’t say anything for a moment, “You’re talented...” he said, “The crimes against you are very serious but…if you come work for us. We won’t throw you in jail.”
Mike looked up, wondering if he heard the man right. “R-Really?” he said.
“Though don’t misunderstand. It will be for years you will have to work for us. And we’re taking your computers. And you will have no contact of the outside world or any friends or family.” He said.
Mike stared at him, his face saddened. He loved his computers. He built the damn thing. “Okay….” He said. “But can I make one phone call though? Just to tell a friend to put what’s left of my stuff in storage and to take care of my bird?”
The man didn’t say anything at first, like he was thinking about it. “Fine. After we remove what we need to.” He said.
“Fair enough…thank you.” Mike said, he let out a sigh. He had mixed feelings about this but it was better than jail. “So…will my record stay clean…so I can pick up where I leave off on my college work?”
“We’ll talk about that once you service to us is over.” The man replied before getting up and walking out of the room.
When it came time for his one phone call for who knows how long it might be. There was only one person he could call. Anemoi. Nimrod wouldn’t be able to do this task and would most likely try to feed Sparks candy instead of what he really needed to eat. He was being watched as he dialed the number, he hoped the man picked up but in the end, he ended up getting voicemail. “Hey Windy, I…have to go away for awhile. Like…a long while. I need a huge favor. I need you to take my things and put them in storage and take care of Sparks for me. I’ll contact you when ever I am able to. Take care of Nimmy..” he said, he took a deep breath, trying to steady his voice. “Bye..”
