[UPDATE] Assassination Missions

Post by Mooncalf »

This isn't really an entirely new system, it's more like an extension of the burglary system. It works much in the same way, as stealth is a major feature of this, but there are some fairly big differences, and bigger rewards.

Accepting a Mission
You can get assassination missions via a terminal, on the "assassination missions" option. This will take you to a tab on the "jobs" page where you can accept a mission from an anonymous dark web user to assassinate a target. You can also use this same terminal page to get the location of a witness who saw you committing a serious crime recently, and this will begin a witness assassination mission. The harder a mission is, the higher your stealing stat must be to accept it, simply because breaking into these areas isn't easy. Accepting any of these missions will give you a location to go to on the main world map.

Differences from Burglary (B&E)
There are a few differences in how this all works.
  • - The aim of these missions is to kill the target (who will be highlighted with a yellowish glow). You can engage him in direct combat, or you can sneak up on him and take him down stealthily.
    - If you do this without being seen by any guards, cameras, or the target, you will receive a decent XP bonus for completing the mission.
    - The police will not show up after 10 turns of setting off an alarm or being spotted by a guard.
    - Instead, after 10 turns the assassination target will escape.
    - Bodyguards protect the target. The higher difficulty the mission is, the more bodyguards (and cameras) there are, and the harder these bodyguards will be to defeat in combat.
    - If you don't like sneaking, you can simply waste all the bodyguards who come at you, like a badass hitman. However, doing so will trip an alarm, and the target will escape after 10 turns.
    - Bodyguards are harder than guards or cops, and are more alert. This means that taking them down stealthily from behind is harder. Your success in this will be determined by your dexterity. The harder the mission, the less likely you are to stealthily take them down.
    - You can use traps in these missions, but only silent ones that take the target down rather than caging them etc. Right now the only trap that works in these missions are poison traps.
    - Assassinating a witness to your crimes will reduce your notoriety (wanted level) by up to 7 points. However, be aware that screwing up on these very hard missions will cause your notoriety to rise.
    - Hiding bodies of fallen bodyguards was initially planned, but I want to see how hard these missions are for most people, first of all.
