Flexible Journal

Post by Josiah »

March 25 -

This is the journal of Josiah Dylan Wallis.

I'm thirty-seven years old as of the start of this journal. My family emigrated to Saguenay from Wales when I was a child, and there I finished my education. I moved to Harper Rock nine years ago, at the end of 2009, for a new beginning and a path to something more than withering away to nothing. I think I've found that path, though I couldn't have imagined it at the time or know that it would come almost a decade after the fact.

In retrospect, Harper Rock was quiet when I arrived, though it didn't feel like it at the time. It was new. It buzzed with possibility and I, eager to settle in quiet seclusion, welcomed it. I took up a remote job as a technical writer, introduced myself to a few of the local bars, established a long-term care physician, and began my existence. I realize now, looking back, that hermitting myself away in my apartment sounds the very same as the "nothing" I wanted to avoid becoming. But to me, it was the only thing keeping me going.

And then it got crazy.

Rumors and suspicions of vampires started taking off on Reddit, and they became more than just another "the government started the fires" conspiracy. The more I investigated, the more I found, and soon I was sucked into the terminals around the city. I looked for anything I could find related to the supernatural. For the most part, the only things that stood out were reports of animal attacks, reports of especially heinous deaths, and the occasional attack caught on CCTV.

The rest is obviously history.

If you're reading this while I'm in the next room making myself a stiff drink, stop. This isn't for you. Not yet.

But if I turn up missing, or worse, then maybe this journal will help piece together what happened to me. Or at the very least, it will give anyone that cares a certain closure they may need. A friend suggested I should start keeping a journal, to document everything from this point forward. I'll try to keep it as updated as I can, though it should be noted that I was never much one for recording my own thoughts.

Maybe I'll have a knack for it. I think this is the start of discovering a lot about myself.
