Good & Evil [Open]

Post by Blaize »

Blaize could feel the itch.

It was an unpleasantness that curdled at the base of his soul. An illness, dark and sticky, that regenerated and spread, grew until it was not able to be ignored. He knew what it was, now. Kind of. He knew that it went away when he sired -- like a weight lifting from his shoulders, like a ball of stress suddenly de-knotted and swept from his system. It was like detoxification, as if taking someone else’s blood into his system and then feeding his own back was a replenishment, a replacement. As if he were giving away the darkness. When they took his blood, they took the illness, too.

They all liked to kill, too. Most of them. They had no qualms with feeding. Perhaps they took his darkness and it manifested in them in a different way. Whatever the case, and despite Aleksandra’s reassurances, Blaize didn’t want to sire again. He couldn’t. How could he, knowing he could be unleashing another murderer onto the city? Anxiety lay flush against his mind, a constant and suffocating blanket that threatened to upend his momentum and sweep the mat out from under his feet.

Blaize could feel the itch. The depression. The need to sire. And he didn’t know what to do.

He slipped from the Sangue Bank like a thief in the night, restless and hopeless and dressed for the studio where he’d go try dance away his blues. The business was doing well, though now and again he had to chase off the picketers who decided to set up shop out front -- mostly religious groups, calling the service immoral and all vampires devil’s advocates. On this particular night, Blaize wasn’t entirely in the mood to be harassed, but harassed he was.

”YOU’RE A DISGRACE. YOU ARE A DEMON AND DESERVE TO BE BANISHED!” The words were shouted directly in his ear by one such picketer -- an older man. Spittle flecked on Blaize’s neck, his ear. A low growl crawled in his throat.

”You have NO idea what you’re talking about!” he shouted back, turning upon his attacker with clenched fists and features contorted with rage. The old man took a step back. For days he’d been trying to get a rise out of the young owner of the blood bank, but nothing had happened. He’d thought he was safe.

”This place was created for your safety. You don’t ******* understand that?!” Blaize asked, but he didn’t expect a reasonable answer. Rage boiled in his gut. It shuddered through his body. It triggered a literal fight or flight response, that power he had yet to learn full control of. The wings, black and glossy with their white underfeathers, broke free. They stretched and spiked, like a cat’s fur will hackle when they are under threat, so too did Blaize’s feathers. They tore his shirt until it was just hanging from him in tatters, barely there at all. Beneath the stark, colourful tattoos spilling from his shoulder and down one whole arm, his skin was porcelain white and flawless.

Gasps and light screams came from the gathered crowd. There was hush, before there was an explosion of activity. Some people backed away, others pushed forward. There were whispers of ‘angel’ and of ‘lucifer’. Phones were pulled from pockets. Blaize rolled his shoulders and stared them all down, as if challenging each and every one of them.

Eva had been hunting through this side of the city it had been a very long time since she had bothered to do such a thing but old habits die hard and the taste of fresh blood called to all of them at some point. She came across the protesters they spewed as much vile and hate as the people they were protesting against could. She smiled some things never changed and to think that most vampires protected them. Not her she could care less for humans did she take life on a regular basis no only when it was called for. These people had no idea the nature of half of the beings they called vampires or they would pee themselves laughing at ever being afraid of them. Then there were the cast that they really should be afraid of Monsters did walk the streets of Harper Rock but most of them would never be seen. Did it surprise her to see her husbands attempt at a spawn screaming at one of the protesters Not really. It did surprise her to see him sprout wings in front of a whole bloody lot of humans though. In the days before the masquerade had fallen Eva would have not hesitated to kill the fledge for such a display. He had never seemed to be of much use or even have any potential … He was pretty of course … but having much common sense at all had long abandoned him. Eva's hand moved instinctively towards her gun. It hesitated "****" she mumbled to herself as she turned and walked away resisting the urge to put a bullet between his eyes. "Let the mob tear him apart " she mumbled to herself as she let the shadows of the night swallow her once more

There were too many people surrounding Blaize for him to have noticed the woman he might have recognised. If he had, he wouldn’t have expected much from her. His sire’s spouse, he’d never had much to do with her regardless; a brief meeting here and there, but nothing of any great consequence, nothing to truly be able to tell each other’s worth or personality.

Given she was a part of the ‘West’ lineage, however, Blaize would expect nothing. He had no regrets about what he’d chosen to become, and in the beginning he knew he could count on his sire for anything. There’d been trust there. There’d been support. But after he’d found his feet, that support withered. So much so he found himself breaking free from the lineage. He was on his own, and it was clear he would always be on his own, without help or support from those who ought to be able to give it to him. To have that connection there was like keeping a defunct limb, even though it served no purpose. It just got in the way.

Oh, how much he wished he had someone to help him now! Someone who knew what the **** was happening to him, and why. Someone who might have some answers. But, as usual, he was forced to try to figure it out on his own. And sometimes, accidents happened. Control was lost, especially for those who bottled it up like Blaize did.

Such was life though, right? His parents had been useless, too. Now, he only had Caralie – and those he’d sired, but he did the responsible thing and kept them out of whatever trouble might come his way.

There was always a reason, under the surface. There was always a greater story to be told. Those who ignored others in need were just selfish and unkind. But that seemed to be the trend, these days, and there was no way to escape it.

So instead, Blaize faced up against the mob on his own, rage clinging to his features as he was ready to argue with these narrow-minded imbeciles; he wouldn’t hurt them, not unless provoked. But he wanted to at least try reason with them, in whatever way he could.

Breno casually walked down the street with no specific destination in mind. He was still getting used to Harper Rock; it was very different from his previous home. Not just because of the undead running around, of course. That was a given at this point. He wasn't fond of the constant tension in the air, though. There were still plenty of people who were afraid of vampires and the unknown, and they made sure everyone knew about it.

Speaking of, loud shouting caught his attention and he stopped. There was a huge mob outside of a blood bank, which didn't surprise him. What did, however, was seeing Blaize in the middle of it all. Stranger still was the impressive set of wings that had seemingly sprouted from his back. Concerned, Breno approached the panicked mob, trying to be careful to not get knocked around. He pushed his way through the people until he was standing off to the side of Blaize.

"Blaize, is everything alright?" It was a stupid question to ask, really. It was very obvious things were not alright. However, he didn't want to accidentally make things worse with his interference. Already some of the people near him backed away in terror once they realized what he was. Heckling one vampire was one thing, but two in one place seemed to affect them more.

Whatever Blaize tried to say, it was drowned out by the crowd. They shouted and hollered and all he could see was red, blotched faces, twisted mouths and gleaming eyes. Who were these people? Was this really the humanity that he had come from? They looked like rabid animals and Blaize was forced to take a step back; the wings rippled, whooshing through the air, sending a few of the protestors scattering. Their shouts of disapproval only intensified—though one woman had gone down on her knees.

Blaize had only been focusing on the anger, but when he quieted and looked again, he saw that there wasn’t only fear. There was wonder, too. There was awe. They weren’t all bad.

And then a voice cut through the din, a familiar voice that curled around Blaize’s sanity, his common sense, so this his gaze tore toward it. A familiar face. A friendly face. And he noticed many of the onlookers had already left. The crowd was dispersing. This time, when those large black wings pushed against the air it was on purpose, as Blaize surged forward. He didn’t even have to say anything. His emotions were written across his face; it wasn’t really anger, but anger’s cousin. He was disappointed. He was frustrated.

The sudden movement had all but a few running off, and Blaize finally shook his head.

”No, Breno. It’s not alright,” he said. ”What are you doing here?” he asked, his tone sharper than he intended it to be.

Breno glanced at the very few people still remaining from the mob before turning his attention solely on Blaize. He didn't outwardly react to the sharp tone, but he did chastise himself a bit. Maybe he really shouldn't have gotten involved, but it was too late to turn back now. "I was just passing by when I saw the commotion. I'm sorry for interfering, but it seemed things were getting a little out of hand."

He glanced at the wings. "Those are very impressive wings. They seemed to have been able to at least give you a bit of space from the crowd." He joked like he usually did when stressed or concerned, despite it probably not being the best time for it. He looked back at Blaize tilted his head slightly. "Is there anywhere you're trying to go? Maybe we could walk together, get away from this unpleasantness. If you're alright with that of course." Maybe getting Blaize away from the people here would help, maybe not, but Breno was wanting to at least offer to try. He would do anything to help his sire, his friend, even if it was as small as this.
