Lasair
went back to the apartment, but this time, she knocked on the door rather than just walking in, thinking if he were busy it would at least be a bit of warning for him.
Jazir Pevinah
The knock on the door was expected, thanks to the touch of Lasair's thoughts earlier. He had had enough time to change clothes and drag himself out of bed. Even if his ruddy copper hair was amuss and he wore no socks and shoes. The living room was a lot cleaner than before, given Katalina was still passed out sleeping on the couch. He was quiet as he walked to the door and peered out it before opening it.
Jazir Pevinah
"Welcome back."
Lasair
"Thanks." She said with a half smile, slipping inside. She noted the woman on the couch with a slight raised brow but no added commentary. "Sorry about earlier. Barging in and all."
Jazir Pevinah
"It's fine...it appears despite my reclusive nature more and more people are coming over." He'd noticed her glance towards Katalina, but then it was rather odd how the other woman had come to be on the couch in the first place, or that she'd chosen to stay. He let the door close softly so as not to disturb her.
Lasair
"Can't really be a recluse if you leave your home." She adjusted her pony tail and smoothed a hand down her fitted plaid shirt. Not a single hair was out of place, which was pretty typical for the severely ocd female.
Jazir Pevinah
"I don't leave my home very often..." The amusement was back in his tone. "Who can resist wandering around on halloween though?"
Jazir Pevinah
"Besides which, I was hungry."
Lasair
"Halloween isn't much different than any other day though." A pause as she stared at him. "A proper introduction should be had. I'm Lasair O'Rourke."
Jazir Pevinah
"It's a little safer even in this town, to be out and about." At her introduction he blinked and then nodded. "Jazir Pevinah, it's nice to meet you officially. Do you usually flirt with every person you meet?" He hadn't had an opportunity to have a legitimate social conversation with someone in years.
Lasair
She noticed his reaction and thought it odd. "Depends on if they're cute or not. I haven't been in town long, and I don't know anyone. Flirting seems like a good way to get to know people. Nice to meet you, Jazir."
Jazir Pevinah
That got him to grin, it was a crooked sort of thing, but then he hadn't been called cute since he'd been in school. It made him suddenly look all of nineteen and sheepish, his hair falling into his eyes a little as his gaze diverted. "It is a good way to meet people. It's been hit or miss for me whether or not it actually works for making friends though. I suppose I should admit that technically I am married..." A hand lifted and a ring flashed at her, the sheepish look turning a little more embarrassed.
Lasair
She arched a brow over one sapphire eye. He reminded her of some of the young men she'd commanded in the army. "Why do you look embarassed over being married? I don't think I've ever seen any one look more ashamed of telling the truth."
Jazir Pevinah
"I...flirted with you to get you to come visit? I wanted you to walk through that door and I didn't care what you thought about why I wanted you here..." the admission came quickly, a short sort of breath sucked in through his nose before he launched into it. "I'm not guilty about being married...just about how I used your quickness to flirt with me to get what I wanted."
Lasair
"And why did you want me here?" She asked curiously, her half smile returning. "I don't think there's anything wrong with flirting to get what you want. Isn't that what we both did?"
Jazir Pevinah
He hesitated, it was visible, apparent, the quick sort of direct connection of his gaze against hers, the fiery orange of his eyes set aglow with what could only be intense hunger. For a moment the healthy pallor to his skin and the skinny litheness of his form got a little sallow. As though his skull had just shadowed his cheeks and jaw and forehead subtly. "I was hungry..." He didn't mention more than that, he simply eyed her, guaging her reaction.
Lasair
She canted her head and watched him, suddenly wary. It was as if the very air it's self had changed. Perhaps it was just her heightened sense of paranoia from serving in war torn countries. "So why don't you just go buy blood?" It was a curious thing, for him to keep mentioning his hunger. Especially when it was something so easily remidied.
Jazir Pevinah
"I cannot feed from blood bags...I've lost the ability to do so..." he wasn't sure if she got it, he didn't think she did. She seemed...more attentive at the very least, but there was no judgement in her gaze yet. No true suspicion. Tension played through him, the hunger that edged over ever nerve ending a pain he'd become used to. It made his teeth sharpen a little behind his lips but he wasn't half dessicated any longer. He wasn't partially melded into dust ridden blankets after having lain prone and unmoving for months. So he shook that off, focusing back on her. "You said you were curious about the stories I could tell you."
Lasair
"And I still am. Particularly about your inability to drink blood. I haven't been a vampire very long." She admitted. "There's a lot I don't know, but I'm always willing to listen and to learn."
Jazir Pevinah
"Blood bags, I can still drink blood, just not from humans any longer." The fact that she didn't know as much as others might have about their kind relaxed him. It had him nodding. "When I was turned I was curious about our history and our origins...I studied a lot about what had happened in this town before. And I stumbled over something forbidden. Apparently years ago one of our kind started hunting our own kind, feeding from vampire blood instead of human blood and he discovered that you could steal the powers and strength from those you fed from. He got strong enough to break what was known as the Masquerade at that time and tear a hole into the Fade...he wanted to rule the world. He was put down...killed by other vampires who banded together and his followers were killed too...but it got me thinking. If someone did such a thing, but it wasn't for selfish power hungry purposes...couldn't it be a good thing too...so I became a Necurat...a vampire that can only feed on the blood of other vampires."
Jazir Pevinah
"Which makes hunting very difficult...and it also makes it dangerous for me to hunt at all..."
Lasair
"So you are the spider and I am the fly." She said after giving his words some thought. "And if you didn't do it because you wanted power or to rule the world, then why did you do it? Seems like deliberately choosing the most difficult path you could take."
Jazir Pevinah
"I had several reasons, one was I wanted to tie my life to Mathias's...before we both went to the Fade he was the only person I would feed from. If I starved, it was because he didn't want to provide and I wanted him to have that power. I also wanted to prove that our society doesn't have to be as independant and anti-social as it is...sharing something of one's own strengths and weaknesses creates a sense of family...a bond that's stronger than what we've lost."
Lasair
"Mathias is your spouse?" She said, leaning against the wall and hooking her thumbs in her belt loops, a deceptively relaxed pose. "The fade is what? Like the afterlife? The Elysian fields or something? And if you only feed from him, why did you try to lure me here? Not that it took much effort." So many questions. "What do you mean lost? I didn't lose any thing."
Jazir Pevinah
"Yes." A quick smile tugged at his lips and he nodded in agreement. "It's where supernatural beings go when they die...Mathias died...I followed him, and I dragged him back out. It makes it harder...knowing what's real and what's not...especially when I sleep and just after I wake up...but that's okay. Two reasons...he's lost his memory...so we are starting over..." The smile cracked a little and faded, a hint of haunted pain jumping into his eyes. "He doesn't remember anything really...and when he went hunting he attracted hunters so he is dealing with a critical wound...he cannot provide like that..." At her saying she hadn't lost much he lifted a shoulder, "I didn't have much of a human family either...but I had close friends who all died the night I turned...friends I trusted with my life...gaining that sort of friendship now is difficult."
Lasair
"Family is the reason I'm a vampire. I was searching for my brother. My twin. I felt him die a couple of years ago, so I set out to find him. I wasn't expecting to find him alive-ish. But I did and now here I am." Her fingers twitched, wanting a cigarette. "Sounds rough, rebuilding your relationship I mean. You seem far to young to be married."
Jazir Pevinah
"I was far too young to die I think...we never really had a marriage ceremony...it's more like...binding his soul to mine. At least that's how it works for vampires. The ring was just part of the ritual. Ironically we inscribed 'to die will be an awfully big adventure' on them. On the inside." He seemed surprised at her story, "That's so opposite how it was for me, I never had any siblings though. So I don't know what it'd feel like to lose one. I've been undead for..." he trailed off, looking a little lost for a moment. "Uh...seven years? I think...?"
Jazir Pevinah
"So that would make me...twenty six now..."
Jazir Pevinah
"Or something close to it."
Lasair
"So you're not as young as you look then." She half smiled. "Interesting inscription. I couldn't do it, bind myself to someone else like that. No marraige, no soulmates no nada. I have my brother and nothing is going to come between he and I again."
Jazir Pevinah
"No, definitely not." He hadn't looked in a mirror in quite awhile, he couldn't even remember how he looked. At her comment about the inscription he nodded. "Well...you didn't ask how he died the first time." Hearing her statement about not binding herself to anyone he couldn't help the smile coming back. "That's good enough. At least you're not alone? Most of those I befriended are gone now...I'm sure if Mathias's sire was still around she'd try to kill me."
Lasair
"Well, how did he die the first time and why would she try to kill you? I know why my brother turned me, and I don't regret it. He doesn't either. I think he was just surprised that I found him again."
Jazir Pevinah
"He asked me to kill him. So I did. It was right after we did the ritual. We did the ritual so it wouldn't separate us. So I could find him again and bring him back. Pi didn't understand and she thought I was a bad influence on him. So we argued constantly. She didn't want him to bind his soul to me and she didn't want me around him at all." He hadn't had anyone to talk to in so many years the past just poured out of him, uncensored and absolutely unrequited. He had never gotten the opportunity to search her out when he'd returned, she'd just been gone. Mathias's extended family seemingly vanishing into the wind. Much like his own had.
Lasair
"That seems a bit.... extreme. I mean my brother doesn't like men sniffing around me either, but he wouldn't stop me from doing something I wanted with some one I cared for." She gave a soft snort at that. She didn't have a whole lot of emotional capacity for anyone outside her brother. Casual sex and meaningless flirting were as far as anything ever went with her.
Jazir Pevinah
"It was...but it got him out of his own thoughts...completely as it turns out since he can't remember anything." The wry sort of tone of his voice was a lot lighter, she didn't seem keen to pass judgement, every question quick witted and intelligent without the normal chiding he was used to or glares. "A lot of how he felt was because of the things she said to him. She didn't really understand how he felt. It wasn't easy for him coping with how he'd turned." He was finding that he rather liked her personality.
Lasair
"Well how was he turned? If he couldn't cope it was probably a traumatic event for him which gave him some ptsd. I saw that a lot with my guys coming back from the desert. Even saw it with my brother."
Jazir Pevinah
"I'm not sure...I found him down in the sewers...eating rats...when we first met. He didn't really seem coherent until after we'd found a better place to rest and even then it took awhile for him to talk."
Lasair
"Because that's not creepy at all." She said dryly, her brow arching again. "What about you? How did you become a vampire? Who's your sire?"
Jazir Pevinah
"He was my first friend, I was hiding down there recently turned because it was easier to scavange about in the darkness than get caught by police stealing." Her question had a smile lighting on his face, "Cherry Worthington...she was...amazing."
Lasair
She perked a brow. "Sounds like you had sex with her." She said bluntly. "So did you chose to be turned then or no?"
Jazir Pevinah
That had him laughing out loud, imagining the chipper tween who had dressed so gothic like wanting to have sex with him. "Ah.....hahahaha...no...she, she looked younger than me even. It would have been really weird. She also acted like a child. Her apartment was all pinks and princess purples with gothic undertones and her friends constantly bought her teddy bears." He got his laughter under control. "I begged for it...but I was dying. So I didn't have much of a choice."
Lasair
"Jesus christ her apartment sounds like something straight out of a nightmare designed by Tim Burton." She crinkled her nose at the thought of such god awful decor. "So then, what were you dying from? Cancer? A mugging? Suicidal tendencies?"
Jazir Pevinah
That had him laughing again and it felt good to laugh, he hadn't laughed in so long. A nod of agreement escaped him. "Yes...I went over to see it sometimes when she threw parties. Specifically after it was fully decorated, but that was it. I much prefer my apartment to that. Ah...a group of friends and I had heard about zombies in the quarantine area and we thought it was a conspiracy. We didn't think there were zombies, we thought there was some sort of governmental cover up. So we took a camcorder and hopped the fence and went exploring. And then got eaten by zombies, or in my case partially eaten. I watched them die and when I couldn't fight them off anymore Cherry showed up and dragged them off of me. So I have the whole thing recorded..."
Lasair
"That sounds pretty damn gruesome. It also sounds awesome. I was a combat medic, so blood and gore doesn't bother me." The truth was, nothing bothered her unless it involved her brother, but that was a whole other ball game.
Jazir Pevinah
"It was gruesome for sure...it was like a really campy horror movie. Still is actually. It was also pretty awesome. I mean...death of my personal friends aside. The first zombie we saw we were tripping over seeing it. But you know...where there's one...there's more. We were such idiots."
Lasair
"Sounds like you didn't watch enough horror movies or read enough books. I can't say I was terribly eager to see the zombies. I just wanted to see my brother again. Now, I suppose I'm adjusting and the zombies don't really bother me."
Katalina Black
It was Night. This was the first thing that registered in Katalina's mind. She started to stir slightly. Her body twitching to life rather than full out snapping to senses. It was warm, for a change. Not that it meant anything to her health, but it was welcoming compared to the many nights in a damp underground labyrinth of rusted out tunnels and disgusting stench of leftover sewage from years passed. She was actually clean. Her hand absentmindedly ran over her arms. She was so comfortable, moving seemed like a forbidden act. Then consciousness slipped through like a plague. There were voices. That made her snap upright. Her eyes flew open and the realization of where she was kicked in hard. How long had she been out? This was unlike her.
Jazir Pevinah
"Probably not, I was too cool for that...much better to smoke and drink and get into trouble." It had been far too long since he'd gotten to talk about it and it made him feel younger just dredging up who he had been. "I don't mind them, but I still take a little extra enjoyment killing them now that I can hold my own against them." He was aware of Katalina stirring before she snapped upright and his eyes diverted over to her quickly. There was the slight hint of tension back in him.
Lasair
She pushed off the wall at the movement of the formerly prone female, aching a brow, she flicked her sapphire orbs from one to the other before landing on Jazir. "Should I go?"
Jazir Pevinah
"It's not necessary for you to leave?" In truth he didn't want to let either out the front door, but that was the hunger speaking, he forced himself to move away from it and towards the chair and table in the corner to perch on the table lightly.
Lasair
She leaned back against the wall once more, watching both of the vampires, then turned back to Jazir. "Nothing wrong with having some enjoyment in killing. Especially if it feels like you're avenging your friends I suppose. Is that why you keep the video? As a sort of penance? I think I would just prefer the Hail Mary's to be honest."
Katalina Black
Danger was a natural first instinct to her and she turned to face those speaking with an uncanny whirl. The tension was clearly written all over her, and it took quite a few moments before the blank look of war left her face. Her limbs and back remained ridged as she did silent, watching them.
Jazir Pevinah
"It does...I watch it to see my death really. It was the turning point and I feel disconnected from their deaths. And it's nice to remember. It just seems wrong to delete it too...maybe when the video can't play anymore I'll chuck it." The reaction Katalina had to their presence had his eyes twitching back to hers.
Jazir Pevinah
'You're not in danger, Good morning.'
Lasair
She watched the woman, fingers twitching slightly. She didn't like twitchy people, twitchy usually meant dangerous. So she kept her eyes on the strange female, even as she spoke to Jazir. "Well lucky for you it's the digital age and you'll never have to worry about not being able to play a video."
Jazir Pevinah
"If I ever upload it to anything...right now its still on the casette in the camcorder. I haven't digitalized it." He mused back. "Are you feeling okay Katalina?"
Katalina Black
His words barely sank in at first. Perhaps she was still more groggy than alert in any mental sense of the word. Slowly, she eased back into something less tight in the shoulders and responded in a voice that was surprisingly more delayed and worn out than she expected. "Morning...Yeah, I'm fine."
Lasair
"Maybe you should." She said with a glance at her watch, then the other woman before flicking her gaze back to Jazir. "If it's your Hail Mary, I wouldn't think it's something you'd want to lose."
Jazir Pevinah
"I probably will. I hadn't given it much thought up until this point but if I did lose it for some reason I would be upset." Katalina's response had him nodding and then he returned his gaze to Lasair. "Would you consider at any point in time allowing me a drink? I can repay you with money, there was one of us I paid ten thousand each bite to...I can also trade in weapons, if I can track down my Childer."
Lasair
"That's a pretty bold question." She checked her watch again. "I'll need some time to think about it. And I'll let you know. For now though, I have to go meet my brother. We're going hunting tonight."
Katalina Black
Iridescent light blue eyes tracked the woman's movements. It were as if she were thinking the same. "Do I even want to know what time it is?" Then, with Jazir's offer, something twisted in her face. It wasn't hate, exactly. More of disgust mixed in with some amount of discomfort. She started to almost physically shift away until she heard the female's answer, to which, she almost smiled.
Jazir Pevinah
"Yes it is...but I've lain dormant for long enough. And if I'm going to be up and active I'll need friends I can rely on to help me stay strong. You haven't judged me yet so now its your choice. I won't pressure you and you're free to leave. Thank you for visiting...and talking with me..." Katalina's question about what time it was had him blinking, he always knew the time, but then his brain was hooked into the computer at all times.
Jazir Pevinah
"Would you be able to help Mathias heal at all, since you were a doctor once?"
Lasair
She nodded, glanced at her watch, then at the woman. "It's 2217."She said with a slight nod before looking back to Jazir. "I still am a doctor. I might be able to help. But not tonight. My brother is waiting." She pushed off the wall and half smiled at the man. "You know how to reach me." She said and gave a half wave before vanishing out the door.
Katalina Black
Just as she suspected. All that time of programming her mind to snap awake at the slightest sound, or as soon as the sun set, gone. She scowled. At this rate, Ripper would laugh in her face. Easy prey. Pathetic. Apprehension grew in Katalina's gut as the woman left. Sure, he said he'd never touch her again, but hunger is - She forced herself to stop thinking. He had let her rest, fed her and could've killed her anytime during her slumber, if he had wished.
Katalina Black
Her mind was an entanglement of honesty and distrust, but she finally managed words. "For a Vampire to be ill is...something. Would I be asking too much if I said, what happened?"
Jazir Pevinah
Silence descended between them after Lasair had left, the empty feeling of it getting him to purse his lips. In truth he had hoped she would be willing to provide. Now he was stuck, he had Mathias in the other room with barely a pint of blood to his name, hanging on the verge of death and he had someone who could help him...who feared him. And a promise he'd made to her the other day. A sigh escaped him and he lifted his gaze to her. "A hunter snuck in...while we were sleeping and critically wounded him..."
Jazir Pevinah
"I put up a shield and summoned a human for him and handcuffed him to the bed so he wouldn't draw more attention. I'm going to go into the system and see if I can find any files on him and purge them soon.."

Katalina Black
Something in his words weighed heavy on her. It was strange. A little over a year ago, Katalina would have worried nothing but for herself. Since her death, she had become someone she almost didn't recognize. She killed for a 'living' and sided with her own kind, as monstrous as they were. It was something in her now, something that did not exist as a human being. "Is...Is there anything I can do for him?" Her words were calm, thoughtful, as if there were some plan she could formulate. She remembered the night she and a stranger had taken on a hoard of humans and zombies, almost neither one of them came out of that. "Ripper showed me how to heal, somewhat. I know you'll say I owe you nothing. I know this." Katalina slowly stood, as if she had not
Katalina Black
done so in awhile. Sleeping on a couch often begs the body to stretch, but Katalina stood straight rather than giving in to petty aches. “And, I don’t claim to be good at it. But...if it’s one more step to keep someone out of the Shadow Realm, I’ll try.â€
Jazir Pevinah
"I don't know..." in truth he didn't think what he had done was enough and he worried that the next night Mathias would be even more injured. At hearing she knew how to heal though his eyes widened right up and he nodded. "Please! If you can even if its a little I'd be so grateful." The response was thoughtless, a small bit of desperation in his voice. "You really don't owe me anything but I would owe you more than I do if you could."
Katalina Black
"In truth, I'm not doing this for you." It was blunt, but she moved around the side of the sofa towards the hall, her body adjusting to face him. "I am doing this because the Fade is no place for anyone...especially not someone who gives up so much to see one survive." The second half was soft, as if she hadn't exactly meant to say it outloud, but the words were enough for a vampire's ears, and hung there nonetheless.
Jazir Pevinah
"He's already been to the Fade once...I brought him back...it took his memory..." What she said next had a hand lifting up to massage at the back of his neck. "You think my existence makes him suffer...gee thanks..."
Jazir Pevinah
leads the way back towards the hallway that led to the bedroom so she could follow him back and see Mathias.
Katalina Black
Air blew out her nose in protest. "Jazir, like it or not, your actions risk him. Your hunger risks him. And, while I realize he must care for you enough to risk a frenzy...It does not change the truth. You want him well, truthfully you will have to leave safety and hunt." She followed him as she spoke. "Otherwise, he is not safe. And, neither are you."
Mathias
Mathias was barely waking up when Jazir came back in the room, followed by Katalina. He stared at the two of them for a moment, and moved to shakily push himself up into a seated position so he could look at them more fully. Grey eyes wide and more than a little confused, hearing snippets of the living room conversation and then more as they walked in. "...What's...going on?"
Jazir Pevinah
"I don't frenzy." It was the first thing he said. "You shot me first. I was not frenzied...I have ironclad self control." This was of course muttered like a petulant teenager would mutter it at some sort of adult authority figure in abject rebellion, even if he felt the truth of her words settle in his gut. He did need to go out. Hiding hadn't kept Mathias safe, it had only put him in danger. "I've been going out more..."
Jazir Pevinah
heads right over to Mathias's sides and undoes the fluffy handcuffs to drop them down beside the bed and then perch on the side of it.
Jazir Pevinah
"This is Katalina...she offered to help you heal faster...how do you feel?"
Mathias
Mathias stared at them, listened to Jazir's stubborn response, watched them, watched Jazir move to unhook the handcuffs from his wrists and then lets out a breath. "...I feel like ****, but that's normal after getting shot in the head, I think..." His voice was just the slightest bit bitter, but a smile found its way onto his lips. "I'm...okay though...I'm going to switch over to blood packs after this, I swear..."
Mathias
"And...nice to meet you?" He looked at Katalina after greeting Jazir, eyes focused on her, the slightest edge to him from not knowing who she was.
Katalina Black
She waved his denial off. She knew better."Well, with him like this, you really don't have any other options." Once she walked into the room, the conversation was dropped. She made her way to his beside. Her voice grows a little more gentle. Offering a light twitch of the lips in turn. "I will do my best. Tell me, how fast are you healing?"
Jazir Pevinah
He barely kept himself from speaking out at that. Mathias wouldn't remember after all that being shot had been how he'd taken his first trip to the Fade. So he pursed his lips instead. "You need to...I told you I can pay for it if you can't afford it..." He didn't like the idea of leaving Mathias alone, especially like he was now. But he didn't argue with her, he just sort of frowned and watched.
Mathias
"...I'm healing every day a little at a time. I think...the headshot is taking the most time...it's mostly internal damage now though, I think..." He glanced at Jazir and shook his head. "I have money, I promise."
Mathias
"I just prefer...warm blood." He said hesitantly, but shrugged. "It's fine though, I can live without it if it means avoiding being shot like this."
Katalina Black
She shook her head. No. If anything, right now, Jazir should be bringing you in...warm blood. Every day. Not less. It heals faster than taking this on your own. You need whole bodies. Not blood sacks."
Katalina Black
* "No
Jazir Pevinah
"I can do that, I've been doing that."
Jazir Pevinah
stares at Mathias.
Jazir Pevinah
"Are you hungry right now, I can bring someone in for you."
Mathias
"No, I'm not hungry right now...I'm fine..."
Mathias
"...A human wandered in earlier and I fed from them...so I'm okay for right now..."
Katalina Black
"Good." Her eyes glance between them. "Mathias," She tried to redirect him. "I need you to trust me, alright?"
Jazir Pevinah
"I brought them in for you..." The words were quiet toned and then at what Katalina said he pursed his lips a little. His eyes narrowing a bit. The defensive and suddenly territorial surge of aggression he felt something that made no logical sense. He had to look away, stare at the wall and exert self control to not let his emotions cloud his judgement.
Mathias
Mathias looked at Jazir, nodded. "I figured you had...thank you." He looked back at Katalina and let out a breath. "Okay..." He tried to not be tense or defensive, didn't know what to expect, didn't know what she would do.
Katalina Black
Katalina pursed her lips before she gingerly placed her hand on Mathias' wrist. Her eyes glowing brighter, deeper blue. She closed them, trying to pull in a certain attentiveness that could not be seen. She drew in all that was her. A dark energy sweeping over them both. Even the vampire sitting next to the could pick up on the sudden change in atmosphere. She let out a deep breath forcing her power to go further. The room grew colder as a warmth spread through Katalina's fingertips and up the wounded man's arm. She shuttered.
Katalina Black
Katalina grabbed a little tighter, if only to not brake the spell. The warmth would soon grow hot as blood coursing through veins and travel upwards towards the heart.
Mathias
Mathias couldn't help tensing when he felt the shift in energy and atmosphere, couldn't help feeling more on edge as he felt the cold and then the warmth moving up his arm until the strain on his body and mind and soul was far too much for him to handle with the healing and blood suddenly rushing through him once more. He slipped back against the bed and fell asleep, passed out.
Jazir Pevinah
Despite his original intention to look away as soon as he saw her hand move he was watching the way her fingers curled around Mathias's wrist. The single word of 'mine' breathing into Mathias's mind before fading out. He felt it when she gathered herself and focused, even if he couldn't put his finger on what she was doing, he watched her, not moving until he felt Mathias react to the pressure and heat of his own blood fired up by her unique power. It had his fingers moving up to rub at his own chest as a gasp escaped and he twitched forward a little, the bond they shared getting Mathias's distress to edge against his mind and heart intensely before he fell unconscious.
Jazir Pevinah
It had him up and reaching out to lay fingers against Mathias's head and temple, reassuring himself that he was still breathing and that life was still in his undead body.
Katalina Black
She felt her senses jolt. Her body moving to sound and not sight, she had a hand under Mathias' back and used her arm to prop him up. It was taxing her, but she held for a minute longer, holding him until the deed was done.

When the last drop of blood manifested out of her, she slowly opened her eyes, her whole body seemed to have gone painfully lax. Like a muscle that no longer had strength, it was all she could do not to drop him on the bed, her bright orbs going wide as she battled to not fall on top of him.
Jazir Pevinah
Even as she set him down he was pulling what had happened out of Mathias's mind, digging deep and rather intrusively into his memory to see what she had done. When he saw the result of it he felt the fear ease out of him and then turned to catch at her and pull her back. "Are you okay?"
Katalina Black
Despite everything, once Katalina's gravity was pulled backwards, she fell back into Jazir's arms and leaned against him. "I didn't think I could do it." She sounded out of breath, but there was a slight twinge in her voice that would have been hard to ignore. She didn't answer him though. If she were to have been honest, the pain she felt wasn't physical. The energy that she had made pour out of her soul.
Jazir Pevinah
He was surprised when he felt her settle in his arms, he had not expected that at all. "Have you used that ability before?" Hunger flayed his nerves alive, where he touched her, where her slight body warmth rested against him, even the subtle hint of her scent. But he gritted his jaw and didn't act on it. "Thank you for trying."
Katalina Black
She shook her head, softly. This small gesture making strands of hair fall across her forehead and over her right eye. "No...I've tried...but it was never right. My mentor always told me I tired to hard with it...and that if I forced it..." Her words trailed off, for a moment. Her eyes showing right through the mask of 'alright'. "He made it look effortless." She attempted to smile, but even a light one seemed quivering, broken.
Jazir Pevinah
"Powers are never easy, especially powers where you give to someone else. It's never effortless. I wish I had that power..." The thought of being able to give back what he took was a profound one. "Maybe one day I'll be strong enough you can teach me how..."
Katalina Black
To this, a laugh burst out of her in a fit of giggles that were only made possible by the inability of a hardy laugh. "Me, teach you? And you're how much older than me? She asked in both, a question and teasing.
Jazir Pevinah
"Age has absolutely nothing to do with it? You are you...and you and I are very different Katalina..." He shook his head, moving to link his fingers against her stomach so his hug was more complete. "Every strength should and does have a check to balance it. There will come a day when you're strong enough to stand against me without any concern for whether I can hurt you."
Katalina Black
If she were not so worn out, she might have reacted against his touch. No, she would have. But, that voice was tiny now. His movement surprised her, his words more so. The comfort she felt was strange, almost foreign. Something she had not felt since she was little...her eyes grew heavy, yet she made them flutter open. Much like a child "It's funny you say that...ever taken down two men with flamethrowers, with their band of raiders and a horde of zombies?" She managed a quirk of the lips. "Quarantine Zone. Fun times."
Jazir Pevinah
"I cannot say that I have. If you have though I wish I had seen it." He was not fully focused on her anymore, his thoughts had flown off down through the ever present connection to Crownet and the local law enforcement database. Even sitting there with her he could easily hack and scrub through file after file, reaping thousands of dollars worth of resellable files and data in search for just one small bit of evidence against Mathias that he could destroy. "Do you hack...?"
Katalina Black
"No...that was more Rose's thing. But, that was an old life."
Jazir Pevinah
"Hm...okay." He was thoughtless with the way his nose drifted closer to her neck, thoughtless with the way his chin settled. Hunger drawing him closer to her subconsciously even if his 'hug' was still light and supportive. "If you ever need help deleting evidence of crimes I can do that...I need a reason to...focus back on improving my skills. I lost touch with life for too long...and you're right. It's not fair to him."
Katalina Black
"Rose did her job well. As did I. We never got caught for what we did." It were as if some little flag were telling her something wasn't right. She batted it away like an annoying fly. Turning her head more towards his as she spoke. "We had originally came to Harper Rock as a pit stop before taking up a big heist. Lord only knows how we would have done. I never made it there...Making yourself weak is not just not fair to him, it is not to you either. I'd..." Her voice became softer as she started to drift. "I'd help you...but after...what happened...I.." She didn't know how to explain it, the words hurt and her mind clouded.
Jazir Pevinah
"A thief then!" He liked stealing, it was what he was the most comfortable with. He wasn't as good at it as others he knew but he definitely knew his way around breaking an entering and had even smooth talked his way out of confrontations with guards. "It's hard to adjust, when we were in the Fade, time stopped mattering...nothing mattered...it just...it was just the barest hint of existence.I'd say it was heaven if I didn't feel the pain of those I'd left behind. And now that we're out again I have to relearn how to live...what I'm capable of. I don't think I fear anything more than I fear eventually going back there...especially if I were alone." He shook his head and then moved to straighten and push her at the bed. "You should rest. He won't wake up until tomorrow probably and our bed is huge. I'll sleep on the couch. Whatever happened I'm sure it was out of your control."
Katalina Black
"You think I don't get it. But, I do...That's why I'm so weak, Jaz. I died...granted I have fadewalker powers that I didn't know how to use but..." As he pushed her away, she gave a low, half-hearted growl in her throat, as if she didn't want to be moved. She wanted to protest sleeping by Mathias, but it was his last sentence that seemed to change the tone in her voice, like he'd punched her. "But, it was...if I hadn't punched that poor girl, I wouldn't be here..."
Jazir Pevinah
He hadn't had the opportunity to talk to anyone who'd been to the Fade, her words shocked him, and at the growl he dragged her right back into his arms and actually legitimately hugged her, tight. "I'm so sorry..." His eyes had widened all up as he realized the implications of how she had reacted, it made more sense now. There was a gut churning fear you had after seeing the other side, at the thought of going back. It overrruled everything else. That fear. And he'd pushed her into self defense with threatening the life she'd just gotten back. "I wouldn't have put you in the position I did if I'd known..." Her response to what he'd said had him frowning more. "Tell me what you mean? What happened?"
Katalina Black
His reaction pulled some of the sluggishess out of her, or at least, her eyes came all the way back open. "If your asking about when I ended up in the fade...I honestly don't remember. But, the first time I saw it was the night I was Turned..." There was a long pause and she let out a breath. Her words seemed to tremble, as if it were something she was recalling only once. Like it was the forbidden knowledge that she refused to give into. "That night, the girls and I had stopped as i said, but I had had enough..my mind was everywhere...on my brother, my broken family, that job...I took off for a walk...ended up at a nightclub. This ***** got up in my face and I just snapped. I broke her nose. Left. Two vampires hauled her out. Like an idiot, I turned around...Clover...she just kept daring me to save her...but I couldn't save her from them...I'd left my gun...and...I saw my brother that night, in the fade before I came back...seen him everyday since."
Jazir Pevinah
He took in everything she said quietly, mulling it over, curiosity and surprise at her openness settling in him equally. "I don't remember seeing it when I was turned, but then I was dead for a very short time...Cherry didn't let me drift. I heard her voice the entire time. It wasn't until the bounty hunters killed me that I learned what it was like. I don't remember how long I wandered in there. It should have given me closure but it just made being the only survivor worse. Even with Mathias down there to keep me company and the ability I had to hear my Childer's voice call out to me...it still haunts me now. So I can relate to that."
Jazir Pevinah
"I think if you've been there a part of it stays with you. Warps reality."
Katalina Black
"I know what you mean. Even this ghost, or demon, or whatever I'm seeing: it looks like him, talks like him...but is twisted somehow."
Jazir Pevinah
"So were they. I trusted all of them with my life. When I ran it was after I'd done my damndest to save them. In my heart I know that they don't hold it against me. But some of the things they said...the looks they give. It chills me. And it's always subtly gut wrenchingly wrong. I'll catch sight of one in the mirror the second before the light comes on and nothing's there but the empty room. You know? Hear their voices right when I'm waking up or falling asleep. If I get lost in thought...I haven't been able to directly interact with them since I left though, it's mostly just like a waking nightmare."
Jazir Pevinah
"I haven't told Mathias."
Jazir Pevinah
"I think its a blessing he lost his memory."
Katalina Black
"I sometimes still swear my vision burrs out into that other world...I see things. Like souls of the Turned coming back, like that one woman I fed Jack so he wouldn't die. Or Abby...the girl who I couldn't save from Jesse and Clover. I saw her there when I died the second time....Sometimes it's like I'm waiting for it to take over...and just eat me alive." She shuttered. The last words barely a whisper. She wanted to wrap up inside herself even though he was holding her. She couldn't help wrapping her arms around his. Wanting to hide.
Katalina Black
"I don't blame you." She added softly.
Jazir Pevinah
"It can't...there's a tear in it...which means there's always a way out. You hear me? Always? And intentional or not we're bonded. I've got your blood as a part of me now. If you ever got pulled back in you could follow my voice back out. I'll check in on you and if I feel you're that far away I'll talk to you ever day until I can find a way to pull you back. I promise." He meant every word, with a fiery passion. "I've seen far too many of those that I care about vanish...anyone I meet now I'm going to do my damndest to keep around."

Some part of her busted open at his tone, his reassurance. Her eyes stung with black tears. She tried to swallow them down, to keep it all locked away. But, then, her body rejected it entirely. She was shaking from silent sobs - that seemed to have no voice. Only pain. She turned in his arms and faced him to wrap her arms underneath his and bury her head into his chest. "I'm sorry...I'm sorry..." She kept repeating it, feeling so weak for leaning on him. For caving in. For crying.
Jazir Pevinah
'It's okay...it's absolutely okay. Nothing to be sorry for. I mean it. There's no need to face it alone. Nobody should face it alone.'
Jazir Pevinah
The reassurances were all mental and his arms moved as she did, before wrapping right back around her. The slight rocking motion of his body at the shift of her weight leading into another half sway as he dropped his forehead down to rest it against her shoulder.

* "No
Jazir Pevinah
Katalina Black
When the last drop of blood manifested out of her, she slowly opened her eyes, her whole body seemed to have gone painfully lax. Like a muscle that no longer had strength, it was all she could do not to drop him on the bed, her bright orbs going wide as she battled to not fall on top of him.

The last thing the vampiress remembered was passing out in Jazir's arms. The use of her magic and emotional stress had left her to completely blackout. But, now something new made her mind race even as her body lay dormant. It was a sharp tug, coming from her very core. One strong cord, like a lifeline sat strong, but there were fainter ones pulling in different directions. One, so light that it barely existed at all, yet it pulsed like a calling. So close. The other lines faded back into numbness bust two still hung in her field. The strong, fasted anchor and the little pulsing line. 'What was this?' She wondered. Then the summons of awaking pressed upon her, and her eyes slowly opened into reality.
Jazir Pevinah
He'd been busy since she'd fallen asleep. She'd struck at him where it hurt, reminding him that he couldn't just get away with hiding from the world and expect it not to put those who tried to take care of him in danger. So after she'd fallen asleep he'd tucked a blanket around her and piled pillows up around her, especially between her and Mathias because boundaries. Then he'd left. He was back now, but he was out in the living room, resting on the couch, feet up on the coffee table, the entire area immaculate from the cleaning he'd done and smelling faintly of cherries. His eyes were closed and his eyelids twitched now and again as he connected through electronic systems and biways, searching out source code for programming.
Katalina Black
She went to sit up, only to find a thick warm cover ushering her back down. She slid it to off her legs and drudged herself out of bed even though the warmth called to her as much as the dream had. She looked back at Mathias smirking at the amount of pillows that practically drowned him, but crept out of the bedroom as best she could without making a peep. It was only when she made it into the hallway, something hit her. As she closed her eyes, a minute pulse seemed to make her turn around. She opened her eyes and stared at the vampire laying on the bed. Katalina didn't know what she was feeling, but she fought against it. If she didn't focus on the cord, it died down into a whisper. And then, as she walked into the living room, it became almost nonexistent. It was the cleanness that hit her first. The smell of bleach that an aroma of freshener to try and cover it up. She had never really noticed how dirty it was in here until it had been washed. Then again, there was a lot of things she grew used to. "Looks like someone finally took some effort." Her words were playful, but lowered a few octaves. If the vampire on the couch was still asleep, she found no real need to wake him. But, it didn't stop her from announcing herself.
Jazir Pevinah
"I finally have a reason to..." his reply was almost snarky. But his lips twitched into a smile and his feet thunked down and he hopped up. Showing he was bright eyed and actually looking not skeletal and underfed. Reason being he'd gone out, he'd gone trouncing through the sewers and taken his fill of several un-familied vampires. Gutter crawling, rat eating low lifes who had no mental capacity to join the hidden society in Harper Rock. There was no danger tied to cleaning them off the streets and out of the sewer systems so he wasn't afraid. If anything it had empowered him.
Jazir Pevinah
"Do you feel better? You slept for hours."
Katalina Black
She nodded, taking in how much better he looked. There was not that craze to his eyes, as red as they might be. He wasn't looking at her with that stare that made her uncomfortable. "I'm not perfect, my power is still drained. But, yes. I am better."
Jazir Pevinah
He had the youthful energy of a teenager, it was in the quick way he moved, and the flush to his skin brought a human sort of life to it even if he was still paler than your average human could be. His orange eyes were dimmed to a tolerable glint, one that seemed to only refract the light that hit them instead of glow on their own and his hair was washed and soft and it fell in copper waves about his face and shoulders. "Good...if there's anything I can do to help let me know, I can pay for blood packs if you need them or summon a human...but I'm running low myself since I've been summoning humans so much for Mathias...I'd like to rest that."
Jazir Pevinah
"I have a request, if you're willing to hear me out."
Katalina Black
She started to say something, but with that last sentence her mouth closed. She made a gesture with her hand as if telling him to continue. a smile started to dance on her lips as if she were hold back a joke.
Jazir Pevinah
He held his breath, rocking on his heels a little and waiting for her response. At her waved gesture he opened his mouth and blurted it all out. "I haven't had an opportunity to fight or go out with anyone...I was wondering if you'd be willing to go out and kill zombies or other creatures with me to help lower the threat to the city. It'd be easier if I wasn't alone to make more of a difference I think."
Katalina Black
This time, she did smile at him. It was genuine, even through her fangs poked through as she grinned. But, there was no malice in her face, given the little show. "What do you think I did before I met you?" She countered. Though there was more than one reason she wanted to leave. She had not eaten in a day or two, and like it or not; she could feel her hunger raise up at the thought of a fight.
Jazir Pevinah
"Probably exactly that...which is why I'd like to fight with you instead of against you." He admitted, looking amused. He noticed the sharpness of her fangs and blinked at her before his expression went solemn. "You will not bring hunters back here to get revenge on me will you...if you leave?"
Katalina Black
"I know it's taboo to answer a question with a question but, would I heal your mate if I were going to send someone back here to kill you?"
Katalina Black
"Besides," She scoffed, putting on an obvious air, pretending to be offended. " I'm not that cliche. I'd do it myself."

"I hope not...but I've had people like Mathias and hate me before. It's nothing new..." A slight shrug lifted his shoulder a little and then the scoffed noise had his lips twitching into a smile. "Okay...what about if I cross paths with you out there...no biting without asking?"
Katalina Black
She looked down, grinning and shook her head. " When will you ever learn? Besides, I never said you couldn't go with me."
Jazir Pevinah
He flomped onto the couch again, this time facing her and crossed his arms over the back of it. His eyes squinted at the way she shook her head and then his nose scrunched. "I'll try not to but...I like to know what my options are if I get too weak." At hearing what she said about him coming with her he grinned. "So you'd be okay killing zombies with me?"

Her face went serious, this time. She looked him dead in the eyes, assessing him. "You made me a promise. If you value my trust, want it, I suggest you be a man that keeps his word." At his smile, her expression did not change. "I have fought by the side of men I barely knew and had better treatment by them than the people that I used to. Don't make me bite those words."
Jazir Pevinah
He felt conflicted at her words. On one hand he was stronger, so if he'd wanted to take what he needed he knew he could, on the other hand he'd made a promise. Her rebuff had him thinking, mulling over what was more important. After a moment he nodded, trust needed to be mutual, he truly didn't want her as an enemy. "Alright...I did make you a promise. I will ask though Katalina...when I need it. I won't take, but I can't not ask." He nodded, "That makes sense, I won't. We're equal in my eyes. And we're family."
Katalina Black
She was fully prepared to give him a tongue lashing. Katalina knew she wouldn't win a fight with him. After all, she hadn't the first time. But in the same breath, she didn't care. Being a bloodbag wasn't ideal for her, despite wanting to help. Being turned by a crazed out vampire tends to do that to people. She thought he'd understand that after last night. And, while she was known to stick her life out for others, dying wasn't exactly in her agenda. The nerve. Then, his last sentence rolled off his tongue and anything she was about to say emptied from her mind. Family tended to be a big F-word to her. She almost regretted the night before. That wasn't her. She wasn't that open, not that weak. And family...was he merely telling her that? Her thoughts collided and had her brow creasing. It was only a second before her eyes averted from his in another head shake. Her next words came out low and almost a growl, though it wasn't exactly aimed at him. "Make me believe that." As she said it, she turned around and stalked towards the door. She stopped to unlock it.
Jazir Pevinah
"I promise I will." He knew if he didn't capitulate it would be a fight, but he didn't want it to turn into a fight. She had intruded into his safe space, he had used her to recover and get the blood he'd needed...now they were good. If she did provide again then it would be her choice. 'Stay safe, send me an email if you want to get in touch or need help with anything. And my home is open to you.'
Katalina Black
She opened the door. Then, paused before walking outside. "You coming, or not?"
Katalina Black
To be honest, she'd hoped he hadn't heard her. She should have known better than that. The way he said 'stay safe' was a sure-fire 'goodbye' but she gave him the option anyway. She was going hunting tonight, for one thing, or another.
Jazir Pevinah
He wasn't sure she would want to keep in his company. But at the offer he skirted around the couch, his eyes widening. "Yeah, if you don't mind? Where did you want to head first?"
Katalina Black
"From the little bit of scouting, a few days ago? Harper Rock is now crawling with the undead. I would suggest it, but with all the surveillance, I wouldn't want to have us seen. The way humans turn on vampires, I don't think they'd care even if we were being useful."
Jazir Pevinah
"I doubt they would care no...it's gotten dangerous to travel the city. We could always go into the quarantine area. There are always creatures rising up there..."
Katalina Black
She nodded. "My thoughts exactly. Getting there is the trick. But, if you don't mind going below ground, I think there's an entrance to the sewers a short walk from here." She gave him a side glance, getting a little defensive before anything could pop out of his mouth. "I had to find something constructive to entertain myself with that wasn't a bloodbath." She reached into her pants pocket and pulled out a marked up piece of parchment that looked like it had been through hell. "I haven't gotten everywhere yet, though."
Jazir Pevinah
"There is...it's where I met Mathias...I'm pretty familiar with the sewer system." He sounded rueful at that admission and then he glanced at her curiously. "What is that?" He wasn't sure what the paper was referencing but he couldn't contain the immediate interest he showed.
Katalina Black
"Its a map." She answered shortly and walked out of the door and down the hall to the elevator. It was surprisingly vacant, but to her that was a blessing. Pushing the down button, she decided to speak more as they waited. Not looking back, she assumed he was right behind her. "I have marked down every tunnel I've ever been in. Where it comes out at, and what dead ends."
Jazir Pevinah
He seemed surprised at hearing that, following her when she moved away from the apartment. The slight tremble of fingers hidden as he stuffed them into his own pockets. And then slipped them into the pockets of hapless humans they passed with movements so quick they didn't notice. By the time they got to the elevator he had a silk hanky he was playing with and a gold ring. He peered at her distractedly and then shook his head. "I just wander...making a map sounds so much smarter though."
Katalina Black
"See, I would have done that. Did it once. Everything looks the same down there. I got lost. Never did that again." She spoke in short sentences, trying to cover up the edge in her voice. He may have been fumbling behind her, but she had to steel her face to keep her fangs from bursting out of her gums. She was used to avoiding people so the demon couldn't come out. At the Ding! the doors slid open and a human came out, bushing past her. She peered down, quickly. Like it or not, she was hungry. Felt like starving, but she knew better. Turn around. Kill it. She stamped on that hard and hurried into the elevator, jammping the down and close door button just as Jazir stepped inside. She would rather be in a cramped elevator with only him, than with humans, right now.

"I got lost too...spent a few nights down there. But I felt safer in the sewers than I did on the streets or in the woods. There is some crazy stuff in the woods..." He heard the edge in her voice and the tense look of her face seemed to only tighten more at the human that escaped the elevator before they went down. "Are you alright? I can draw someone if you need an easy meal?"

The elevator shut, and started its decent. "I'm fine." But, the tone in her voice sounded irritated. "It's fine. I'm fine. I can get my own. We're heading to the Quarantine Zone. Nothing there but people who make life hell."
Jazir Pevinah
His eyebrows went up a little, technically he was fine too, but hunger bloomed and ached behind his temples and in his jaw in a pain he was very familiar with. "How hungry have you ever gotten?"
Katalina Black
She wanted to ask him if it was any of his business, but she had been candor about worse things. Still, she suddenly didn't feel like talking. Or breathing, to which she actually stopped. Katalina didn't want to smell the humans that had littered this metal box. Though, after what felt like an eternity, she spoke "Feralism." It was the only word she said, but there was a glare behind it. As if daring him to ask why or make fun of her. The elevator stopped and with its ever-ready noise opened. Katalina refused to examine the lobby beyond a few flits of the eyes and narrowing her head down. It might appear as if she were shy to others. And to Jazir, she might have been holding down the beast. But, Katalina knew she had to hide her face. Hide the glowing blue eyes.
Jazir Pevinah
Her response surprised him but he didn't say anything about it. He didn't have much experience with that. He'd starved himself to nothing, he'd been comatose, he'd even been unable to move or even crawl towards what he'd needed. But he'd always been trapped safely in the apartment when he reached those lows, he'd never lost control with anyone outside the apartment or lost the capacity to recognize where he was or who he was with. He followed after her, ready and willing to confuse anyone who seemed suspicious of them and cause a distraction if she did need to feed.
Katalina Black
They made it out with no interference. Katalina was thankful for that. She could keep her wits about her, even though she had been lost to the demon before. If anything, it made her strong willed and revealed what kind of monster a vampire could be. Had another of her kind not found her, she wondered where she would be right now, or if she'd even be alive. They stepped outside and Katalina shivered. Not from the chilled, but from the thought of dying. She kept pace with Jazir, not exactly leading him, or he doing the same to her, but an even pace to the same man-hole cover. Her fingers running across the map was an odd relaxation from the anxiety that had suddenly taken her. The hunger seeming to fuel it. She still hadn't looked up, which was peculiar for a girl who always seemed to look even Jazir in the eye.
Jazir Pevinah
The moment they were able to slip into the sewers he felt more relaxed, he was familiar with the acrid stench and the damp shadow filled tunnels. He always felt safer down here than he did on the surface. "It's just too bad homeless tend to stay out of the tunnels down here..."
Katalina Black
In all actuality, Katalina relaxed a tad too. As soon as her feet touched the ground, her head came up. She didn't use her sense of smell. Didn't want to. Didn't need to. Her body language seemed to change a little down here too. Not only was she more relaxed and alert, but there was a sense of self there too. Like the shadows of the dark made her feel at home. If her eyes were bright inside his room, in here they shown like stars in the dead of night. "Because they're smart enough to know better." She thought for a second. "Besides, I'd rather kill a wicked man than a poor one."
Jazir Pevinah
"I suppose that makes sense." At her statement on having a preference on who he killed he nodded, "Do you usually kill those you feed from? I thought you could take a bit and wipe their memory?" He hadn't been able to wipe the memory of anyone he fed from from the very beginning. Even before he'd lost the ability to feed on humans.
Katalina Black
She started walking. "No..." Her words had gone from very defensive to soft and thoughtful. " No Jazir, I don't. Not anymore. But, I treat every person like I could." She left it at this for the moment. She knew one thing that he seemed to have forgotten. If you take more than a pint of blood from a human, they risk death. Katalina also knew it had been days since she fed and tonight was edging it further. She had no plans of keeping this person alive, if she wanted to grow stronger...But, the blood memories, those had their own kind of power over her. Something that could either make her lose or gain control.

"That's probably the best way to look at it. If you didn't think you could lose control at all then losing control would take you by surprise and you wouldn't be prepared for it. I approach hunting the same way..." he moved with ease in the darkness and then there was a hiss from the shadows and a feral vampire straightened, a rat dropping from its hands. It lunged at them and he didn't even hesitate, hunger rulling his thoughts as he stepped forward and then grabbed it and caught fangs in its neck. The scrabbling clawed fingers and the shriek it let out completely inneffectual against him before it dissolved to dust in his arms and he brushed himself off. The stolen blood licked off of his lips and powering through his veins.
Katalina Black
Katalina did not pull out a weapon. In fact, she was waiting for it to pounce, so she could grapple it to the ground and try to bring it back to consciousness. Jazir obviously was not waiting for anything. What happened next, Katalina should have foreseen. She wanted to turn away, cover her face, anything, but, she did not. She watched as he devoured the husk of a vampire and bushed it off as if he had done nothing. Something in her stiffened. 'it was lost, nothing' she tried to tell herself. But, she couldn't. That could have been her. Suddenly, the night felt colder.
Jazir Pevinah
It wasn't until he glanced her way that he realized the ramifications of what he'd done. The words she'd said prior and what he'd just done with ending a life getting a solemn sort of hesitation to his posture and expression. He stood there for a moment thinking over the impact of what he'd done and then he focused back on her. "If it was you I wouldn't have. Even feral. I can promise you that. I would bring you back regardless of what it took. But I did not know them and there was nothing when I touched their minds...nothing that I could recognize. I'm sorry if that disturbed you or shook your trust in me."
Katalina Black
It took her a solid minute before she could wash that blank, cold stare off her face. It changed into something somber as did the tone in the words to follow. "No...it's just going to take me a long time to get used to this." She made a gesture up with her hand and then let it slap back against her thigh. "It took me a while before I could bare to eat people. So much so that I'd force myself to go as long as I could before I had to. Ripper wouldn't have it, of course. But...I can't be mad at you. You kill the insane, so do I." She thought before finishing with, "You know nothing of the..." She chose her words carefully. "Beings you kill. I have to know mine, and still go through with it.....thinking about it...doesn't that make me more of a monster?"

He understood how that felt. He hadn't been able to handle forcing himself on strangers either when he'd just turned. It was another reason why he'd turned to Necuratism. It was easier to beg the one you knew, namely your sire, for continued existence without feeling the overwhelming guilt at what you took. He drew in a thoughtful sort of breath, frowning a little bit and nodding. "It...gets easier with time..." He didn't feel guilty about what he'd just done at all, not like he did for biting her and then later realizing how much it had frightened her. "I've gone through that cycle myself...I know how it feels. It does not...it makes you mourn more for what is lost...which is sharing in the pain or distress of your prey...sharing even in their own lives for a moment. It makes me more of a monster because I should really aim to connect like that with anyone I feed from...to recognize their value in existing at all."
Katalina Black
Again, he'd managed to baffle, and pull her on her feet again. This was twice he had made the pit in her stomach settle. Regardless, of what he had done. She could not explain it. She took in his words. All of them. But it was the ones that came out her her mouth next that shocked her. "You say that, until you see, feel it." In truth, the power she inherited from her Sire felt more like a curse than a blessing. Maybe he wanted it, wanted to feel what she did to 'value their existence' more, but Katalina would have given it up in a heartbeat.
Katalina Black
She made her feet move, brushing past him with a vampiric grace. Even though she showed off that she was fine, her mind did, indeed, rage with storms.
Jazir Pevinah
"The amount of suffering it causes you is not something that frightens me. I do not want it because I think it would be easy to bear. I would want it because of what it is. A burden that makes you think twice before taking life because it is not an easy thing for you to do without consequence." He followed her when she brushed past him, falling into step behind her and keeping his eyes peeled for any others. He wouldn't drain another in her vicinity. Technically, he was full, despite the ever present pain of hunger. "I am never satiated...I only want...I am not sure if it is because I crave vampire blood more than I would human due to it being forbidden, or if it is just my nature. But it is how it works for me. It is a burden...I would trade it for your ability to absorb memories."
Katalina Black
"Listen to you over here, trying to be all nobel." Immediately after those words came out, she regretted them. Especially with what he said next. Her footsteps actually faltered, and she stumbled a step, to catch it with the other. She didn't stop completely, as maybe she should have, but she did look back at him. And, ate that sentence. "I..I'm sorry. I'm being selfish. I didn't realize..." She shut up before putting her foot in her mouth, again.
Jazir Pevinah
A laugh escaped him, he couldn't help it, no one had called him noble in a looong time. That just wasn't a word anyone ever used to describe him. "I'm not noble...at all." At her reaction to how he felt he seemed surprised, pausing in his step too. "I've gotten used to it...I was extreme in how I handled it. I pushed myself past my own self control because I was locked in the apartment and couldn't hurt anyone for weeks and months at a time...starving past starving so I could tell the difference between this...and when I actually need it...until I felt I could say no. No matter how desperate I was. Because I'd gone past that desperation before. Which...worked. I don't recommend it though."
