People's Preference (October Update) - Roleplay Update

Post by Mooncalf »

Note: This month's people's preference update is still being worked on, due to a surprise that ties in with the winning suggestion.

Next month's People's Preference update will be for a single roleplay related update. This could be new content, new systems, updates to existing systems, or something to make people's lives easier. You suggest, you vote, we go with the people's choice!

Here's how it works:

- Post here suggesting an addition to the game, or link to an existing suggestion on the suggestions board. One idea per person, please.

- Make sure to only suggest additions to the game, rather than changes. We'll deal with gameplay change updates when we can, but this system is for new additions or content to the game itself, not for changes to the existing systems.

- Try to pick something that's not too big. We'll only really be selecting small-medium sized updates and content additions. For example, enchanting or mastery powers are massive updates which take multiple months to complete, whereas new NPCs or new hacking gameplay options are smaller updates, and we're able to roll those out fairly quickly.

- After several days (sometimes longer if we don't get many suggestions) I'll go through the list and hand pick 8 of the most do-able and exciting. I'll usually also pick suggestions from players that are most interested in that month's update category (for example, PVP suggestions from PVPers are more likely to make it into the final poll). Those 8 will be placed into a poll, and you can get voting!

- The top voted idea by the end of the month will be selected and implemented very soon after (hopefully within a week!). Note that if the winning vote is for an idea that is marked as "v. small" then the update is considered extremely minor, and in which case I'll also implement the idea with the second highest votes (and perhaps also the third highest, if the second highest is a very small update too).

We hope this gives people a greater sense of community interaction with the developers, and that you'll have at least one update to look forward to every month.

AU Board - http://www.mooncalfstudios.com/pathofth ... =3&t=30961

I come from a canon-character roleplay background, and one of the things that makes it so much fun is to be able to warp the storyline and squeeze out new reactions from the character. This eventually leads to fleshing them out real well because you have tried and tested them in all sorts of settings, retaining their core (canon, in that particular case) intact, but building around it.

We definitely have more leeway on here because we create our orginal characters, but the canon doesn't always lend itself to trying new things. I think it could be beneficial if there were a board that was out of time / out of place / for alternate universes, where players could pursue random interactions that forced their characters to interact in new ways or with characters they might otherwise not...

It could be a place where experimentation could fuel creativity. I personally know from experience, my own and of fellow players, that when there is boundlessness to counter strict canon structures, writers find their characters are disposed towards new directions that they wouldn't have considered otherwise. Alternate storylines are a great way to bring to life sides of a character's personality that might not otherwise blossom in canon, and in turn, enrich the canon.
The only alteration to this suggestion that it’s an AU board strictly for our roleplaying community. This way it doesn’t confuse the gamers, but new roleplayers could join and think “oh this is good thing for developing” if they’ve written a character they wish to bring elsewhere. It could be a good way to also introduce their character in a way that shows before introducing them to Path itself. I also come from a canon-forum background and even if it wasn’t extremely important to the canon, it did let me flesh out my character further past what I can now.

CS Link - http://www.mooncalfstudios.com/pathofth ... =3&t=31087
Few people link their character sheet in their signature, which means jumping through hoops to access their character sheet if they have one written out. Instead of returning to game and clicking + and typing in the character name, I suggest either a slot in the forum profile or beneath the avatar in posts, where people can link (or it is automatically linked) to their CS (i.e. they type their username and it fills the profile= link).
Either option would be lovely.

I'd like to throw in a poll option for those who don't want to move their characters that day, but want blood and anima in order to keep up with the PXP payout. So my suggestion is: an update which allows RPers to gain daily anima and 1 blood for posting RP at least 1-3 times during that day (does not stack with grid movement, so it's either or).

This suggestion makes me realize we need a like button.

:))

My suggestion: Page to list roleplay plots complete with genres, descriptions. Kind of like direct roleplay advertisement to help people get specific plots worked through. Aka THE PLOT LISTING

I'd love a like button too, lol.

Which made me wonder if something like a like button could be added that tied into the 'love that rp' thread or something similar? I think that some readers would be more likely to hit like on the roleplays they're enjoying reading than to go post to a thread. The number of likes being shown might be added as well but that might make it too competitive... also there's a lot of great reads on this board that get missed because they're buried so quickly, if there was a display of the number of likes, readers could find the top rated threads with ease.

A collapsible sidebar that includes things like featured roleplays and characters, as well as a guest-friendly chat box. The former could be karma-bought privileges, much like the featured sire thing on grid. Except you'd pay small amounts to feature your open Roleplay/plot in the sidebar, or a character seeking canon counterparts. The latter is just a way for existing members to answer the questions of guests who might not be sure they want to join until they know what the place is about.

If it's possible, how about a "favorites" for the color pallet on the full editor?

Poll has been added.

ETA: I should really have marked the 'what if' forum as a very small update. It would be super quick to do.
