Breaking Ground

A ring of the phone caught Dawn's attention as she looked at the paperwork for one of her artists. The group was very up and coming, and it seemed quite popular on all the streaming stations. This particular paperwork was meant to cover both them an Dawn. Give them both everything – within reason – that they could wish for. Most importantly, they were about to embark on their first world tour.

The second ring, finally had Dawn reaching over to pick the phone off the receiver. "Kindred Moon Records, this is Ms. Chekov speaking." she stopped to listen to the person on the other end of the line then quietly held her breath for a moment before replying, "Mr. Markison! Lovely to hear back from you, everything alright with the paperwork?"

At that moment, the white double doors of her office opened and Celeste, her trusty second in command at Kindred Moon Records, walked towards her with something that was never far from her. The tablet they did a good portion of their business from. Celeste set the tablet down, facing Dawn as she listened to the man on the line. "Mhmm, I have it all right here in front of me." Dawn then looked up and mouthed 'Thank you' to Celeste. Celeste smiled and nodded before returning to her desk out in the lobby. "Mmm, Yes, everything looks to be in order. Hold on one moment..." she turned to her own computer and glanced at the email in front of her. Her nearly white-blue eyes gleamed with joy as she turned her attention back to the man on the phone. "Mr. Markison! Everything is, indeed, in order and I am signing the document now. It's been a pleasure working with you on this gig and I hope to see you at the grand opening." she said in a bubbly tone. "Yes! Of course, please pass on the invite to some of your friends and family as well! The more the merrier!"

She picked the stylus from the side of the tablet up and signed the forms, all had been cleared by her attorney and now she was ready to make the biggest purchase of her life. And what's more? She was doing it as a gift. She just needed to get in contact with two more people. Or rather, two more. Possibly three. It all depended on how well she could get those old business men to listen. Something that was often easier said than done.

As Dawn pressed 'send' she turned her attention back to the phone. "Thank you again, Mr. Markison. Have a great night!" The moment she hung up, she began dialing another number, she glanced at the clock and sighed. Eight PM, that would probably mean it was far too late to be reaching who it was that she needed to reach. The seller. An old fart that no longer wanted what he was selling despite all those that he had to look after. Though, she wasn't going to complain, she was getting it at far below market price. The phone continued to ring about four more times before she admitted that it was just too late and that she would have to wake up at the normal working hours of business people. That meant one thing. Going home and going to sleep as soon as possible.

Dawn started to pack up her stuff then grabbed the tablet and headed out, she stopped at Celeste's desk, handing her the tablet back. "Tomorrow I'm going through with the buy, Markison agreed to everything and the bid is set. We just need our main gift."

"That's great Dawn! Have you thought of a name or are you keeping the old one?"

"Oh, that is getting a change, thankfully all the players save for like three or four free agents are coming with the package. Thankfully they are all used to this weather, I know we'd have so much work on our hands if we had to acclimate them to the colder temps."

Celeste nodded and smiled "I hope that this works Dawn, so many are leaving the city. With the zombies and those horrible monsters..." she shivered, Dawn nodded sagely.

"I hope so too, Celeste. This is my home now. I don't want to see it fall just so we could live in the open."

A week later

Dawn stood on the site of the new stadium, Thornside park was fairly safe from the zombies, and the fact that the transit system was close by could only be a good thing. There had been a building on the site, but now, that building was rubble, what she hoped would rise from the ashes would be a Phoenix on like any other. Not just a stadium meant to draw in the crowds and offer new jobs to those that had trouble finding them in the harsher climate of the city. This was to also be a safe haven, for human and vampire alike. She hoped for this to be a neutral zone where the only rivalry would be between fans of the different teams. Though, she also hoped her gift would rally mortal and immortal alike in solidarity. That they would all become fans of the team she had bought.

As they had to finish with all the contracts, and training, she knew that it would be well into the season before the stadium would be ready to host games. But that didn't mean that she couldn't start inspiring people to join the appreciation of a good team. She spent extra attention in hiring those with skill as well as seeing that they were getting the best training and best care because she would not have her gift tired and haggered when they finally arrived.

She looked to where the construction was going to start taking place. Dawn made sure that she approved of every little aspect of what had and was going to happen in the coming days and months. Dawn knew that she had no doubt exasperated every construction company especially the one she had chose with making sure that the stadium would be state of the art. It would also be environmentally friendly, though the grass would be real. She spared no expense. Dawn cared about every aspect of the stadium and the city it was a gift too.

A phone rang and she looked to the ID. It was a call she was expecting. "Ryan! So glad to hear from you, have you been able to work on the project I asked you about?" listening to what he had to say, she smiled brightly. "That's better news than I was expecting. Thank you, I'll keep in touch!" Dawn smiled as she hung up the phone, the news that the paperwork was getting started helped tons.
