Dungeons & High Rollers [Cliff]

Post by Eureka »

The dark red of blood matted with the ginger red of Eureka’s hair. The vampiress hadn’t been above ground for more than a few days and already she was getting shot at -- not only by cops, but by soldiers, too. What the **** had she missed, that there were now zombies and shuffling creatures walking the streets? What blessed chaos had she been dead for?

Dead, yes. How long had she been dead for, anyway? It took her a full night and then some to remember that it was the fadebeast that had done it. Her baby fadebeast, whom she had allowed to grow to full term. She’d been cocky, she’d thought she’d survive the birth. At least the last thing she felt before she’d died was pride. Where was her baby now? Was it still alive out there, terrorising the citizens of Harper Rock? Or had some bigger, badder vampire taken it down? Eureka would never know.

After accidentally slipping through that door and back into the chaotic glamour that was life, Eureka was starving. How many throats did she have to rip out to satisfy herself? What she may have gotten away with before she could no longer get away with; there were too many more eyes on the street, too many people on the lookout for violent behaviour.

It earned her a bullet to the skull. The back of her skull, which continued to ooze congealed blood. Where she stumbled, she did so by instinct. Through the streets, and through the doors of the Casino. Through the crowds with curious eyes on her, but not stopping her. Through to the very back corner of the furthest room and the door which she knew would eventually lead her underground. Deep underground, into silence and darkness, where she would be safe, at least for a little while.

She wore a jacket that she’d stolen from her first victim, a man who’d been on his way home from a late shift at a job she assumed must have been in an office somewhere. The jacket was large on Eureka, and looked a lot like a dress. She wore it only because she’d learned from past experience that coppers didn’t like it when you walked through the streets naked. She might have peeled the jacket off had she found what she expected to find in the dungeon; she might have curled up on her dingy mattress and slept for a little while. What she found, however, was… well, renovations. And nothing of what she had collected. None of it.

With a pounding headache and looking a little drunk, Eureka stomped back through the hidden passages and up into the light, up into the High Rollers area. She looked like a creature from the black lagoon.

”Who the **** took all my stuff…?!” she demanded, bright eyes scouring every face in the room.
