Re: Playing with dead things. (Ripper, Open)
She didn't like the sound of that. The whole 'you're stuck with me if you want answers' thing really was a thorn in her side. But, like it or not, she wanted to know. And, what was this deal? Vampires didn't have a soul, according to popular lore, so what could she really lose? But that went back to how much she had to learn. What was she really?
Peering around the muted hall with it's dusty sheets and packed boxes, Katalina spotted a nice length of rope wrapping up a towering mound of sheets. No doubt, a statue hidden beneath it. A small chuckle slipped from her at Ripper's sarcasm. "You're doing probably as well as he is, right now. All tied up." She snickered as she surveyed her options. Tugging on the rope was out of the question. That heavy thing falling on her? Yeah, no. It was tied in the back but there was no doubt she could bite right through it, right? Moving to snatch it up, the cord was thick but her nails cut through it like butter. Her eyebrows rose unexpectedly. How useful could this possibly be? She wondered but it is what he asked for. As she walked, she wound up the rope between her hand and forearm before tossing it to the older vampire.

Ripper did not move so much from his position to glance fully back at her with a quirk of either irritation or amusement but widened his eyes subtly to indicate that she had miscalculated.
"Bind his hands and feet. Then we can all settle back in for a nice uninterrupted talk."

You're just so useful, aren't you? But, she kept that comment to herself. Picking up the rope, she rolled her eyes and wrapped the line tight around his wrists, knotting them as if he were an object than a person. It was actually an old fishhook knot that would never break. Then she wrapped it down, just out of reach of his nails, around his waist to his feet where she made a second knot, but only barely. Half of her wanted to find more and cage him inside the cover sheet as well. Throw him out the nearest window, that sounded great as well. The sun was only a couple hours away. She didn't know how, but she could sense it.

The elder straightened up after examining her handiwork and reclined backwards across what was another piece of covered furniture to better keep an eye over on the trussed up visitor.
“Alright, if you would like to repeat either of those questions to me now that we have lost our sense of former urgency.”

She pursed her lips for a moment, wondering what she wanted to ask him. No doubt, she wanted to bombard Ripper with questions but she had to get out importance first. She would only get to ask so many. "What deal were you talking about? You wanted my name and I'm assuming that it's..." She paused searching for the word. "Binding. If it's what I think it is?" Katalina stood half-way between Ripper and the intruder, though stood off to the side giving them a rather wide birth.

"Yes, indeed?" he pondered the question as straight-forwardly than was possible. Nothing in this vampire's motivation had seemed to include many wanderings into culdesacs with too fantastical allusions; but he could sense her trying to get adjusted to the depth of the water on what she could assume to be the shallow end of the pool. Here there be Monsters still lurked underneath the diving board on the far side. He was more than content to let her wade her fording at a comfortable pacing. (It was still a tad easier to trim the query away with Occam's razor than with ramblings from some of the more enigmatic childer)--and with this micro calculation he opened up his mouth to either confirm (or deny!) one of her worst fears. His wording was multi dispersed to cover several angles of an explanation.
The deal I was talking about are the terms set by the fae creatures you have just witnessed who offer their services in exchange for useless seeming oddes and ends acquired with no consequence. Since they themselves have set the terms, and their talents are recognized as widely useful, although the implication is somewhat that our kind is getting screwed out of something rather significant in the long run...since we all know that true magical power isn't bartered for trifles.
*He put the lid back on this can of worms with a slight shrug; *
"still, for the moment until that unveiling their motives seems somewhat expedient.
As for the second part of your question, that regards nothing more significant than a matter of translation--they might know me as well by a similar title.

"Giving a magical creature information without knowing its true worth; isn't that a little, I don't know, impudent? Idiotic even." The way she said it really wasn't a question. It was said like common sense with the way her eyebrows dropped and mouth quirked slightly to the side. Hearing him say that the name asked for was resembling his own did indeed calm her, though she didn't show it. That was not the answer she truly wanted. He wasn't exact on what it was, and that did not sit well with her. She would overlook it, for now, and hopefully, it wouldn't come to bite her in the ***. "So these Fae...In everything I've ever read, Fae were known for stealing children and causing trouble. But, you called them like, well, in old demon folklore. So does that mean they are one in the same? Or do demons just not exist and were confused with the Fae?"
The glossed over eyes of the spindly vampire began to twitch back and forth between the two adversaries. There was no doubt that the web was slowly unwinding as they spoke and that the vampire could hear everything. The process, however, was like molasses. His jaw remained unyielding to his wishes along with the rest of him. This made Katalina's gaze shift wholly to whom she was speaking.

His pointed grin might have resembled the Cheshire cat; canines and all.
"We're all mad here!"
*his eyes glazed over somewhat at the rest of her query.*
"This is more a twitchy subject of a more widely askance variety. I can not claim to hold any ultimate expertise of understanding, but I could summarize some what a bit from what the old masters say....
Quid pro quo, Clarice?"

Her eyes narrowed downwards and she gave a huff clearly trying to hold back a laugh and hide the grin. "You are not Hannibal Lector. So stop trying to give Anthony Hopkins a run for his money. I'm sorry you missed your calling." She lifted her head to look him in the face and added with a smirk "It explains a lot."
