She wheeled on the man again, bringing the edge of her blade with her. She was putting everything she had into hitting him, and it seemed like her best efforts were just knicking his arm. Her fingers tightened their grip on the hilt of her blade and she took a slow breath, trying to steady herself as she readied for another run at the man. What she caught, though, was a flash of pain in her eyes, like catching the flash of a bright light, too intense for her, and she stumbled away from him, her legs uneasy beneath her as she rubbed at her eye with the heel of her palm.

What the **** was that?

As her eyes refocused, she could see that she had stumbled into the darkness of the edge of the arena, the shadow of the oval wall cast along her like a dark scar across he dirt floor. When she could focus again, a whip of black hair and a pale, angry face lunged for her, startling her as she swept her blade toward the figure. She struck the woman, and passed straight through her, her thrust sending her falling into the dirt. “Get the **** away from me… get the **** away!” She lashed the blade at the woman again, the woman that had followed her for weeks all through Harper Rock.

She had been a thing of nightmares.

She rubbed at her eyes and tried to focus. Nightmares. That was what this was all about. She grit her teeth as she tried to focus. He had done something to her, something to make her see the vampire’s face. It was only all the more terrifying, knowing that her presence wasn’t as far-fetched as some might believe. She swallowed, hard, and took a trembling step from the darkness, her blade swinging wild and frantic from the shadows. The way her arm trembled, and the way he seemed to be more prepared this time, her blade caught his face, but only just. The shallow cut was gone in an instant, and she was left exposed in the light.

Stepping out of the shadows, you lunge at Enver Marshall II with your sword, but they are too fast for you, and your sword merely scratches their cheek. The wound closes up almost instantly.

He saw her coming and took a few wobbly steps back, but still got the sting of a blade across his cheek. "Damn." Enver muttered, realizing how close she got to him and how very closer yet, he was to losing an eye. Just a higher arc up and he'd be missing an eye.

Shaken, Enver raised his gun, blew a breath out and followed the woman with his gun. Enver let his finger tap the trigger of his gun, releasing a few bullets that went spraying all over the place, but not where it counted. Enver moved, cringing at the sound of someone's curt scream when a stray bullet hit them from his gun.
Ooc: you fire a few shots at Starla, but all your shots miss.

So far, things hadn't been going so bad. At least not as badly as she had expected, after the first few moments of the encounter. The pain in her legs was a stinging reminder, though, that she shouldn't get too cocky. She shouldn't get ahead of herself. There was still a lot of ground to cover, seeing as she had been doing her best to get at the man in front of her, and hadn't been able to make her way through his defenses even a little. She had been going as hard as she could manage, and had still only been able to hack away at his off arm, his gun arm still unhindered and able to do as he pleased.

After all of the damage, she'd landed, most of it had been completely useless.

She lifted a hand and pulled her hood back, letting it fall loosely over her shoulders. She tightened her grip on her blade and focused on the man in front of her. She swallowed back her doubts and shifted her feet, planting them before a charge, rushing forward and slashing out at him again as she closed, but after her near miss before, he was more ready than she had hoped, her blade biting into his arm yet again, the weapon ricocheting off his bone as it impacted, giving her reverse momentum to turn in the other direction. Instead of retreating again, she kept her proximity, and prepared for a backhanded slash in the same breath. She did her best to ignore the shadowy figure that lurked over the man's shoulder, long dark hair hanging over her face as she watched, ready to lunge at the small woman at any moment, Starla's fear just barely in check.

You slash at Enver Marshall II, and they raise their arm to defend themselves.Your sword slices deeply along the edge of their forearm.

You take aim at Starla and offload multiple rounds, but they are too quick. They slip into cover, causing you to miss every single shot.
Enver didn't think himself too terribly out of shape, sure he was a mostly sedentary creature-but he hadn't always been. Life on the big screen didn't really allow for that. These nights though? If he wasn't behind an office desk, then he was sitting at a bench crafting something. Guns mostly, but the occasional piece of jewelry for Grace. A birthday, a holiday, or just because he could. Still, he was surprised at how slow he was moving lately, even with what seemed like the upper hand.

She was back at him with her sword and this time, 'blonde barbie' managed to give him another hell of a scrape on his upper arm. Enver bit back a growl as he reeled that arm back, as if protecting it. Which, he was. If he lost an arm, especially the one he favored and shot with, he'd be screwed from here on out. The tables would turn, and not in his favor. The gun in his hand was getting heavy, given the gouge she ripped into his arm and muscle, so it wasn't so much a surprise when Enver lifted it and took aim, and...missed. Again. Thing were turning against him, and that wasn't something he could afford. Not due to his stupid *** thrall who promised him one million buck winnings and there was nothing even remotely close to that as the prize.

Maintaining her proximity, Starla turned on her step, giving the man's bullets a wide berth as she pivoted for a back-handed swing, still following through on the momentum of her previous thrust. So far, she'd managed to keep the pain in her legs under control, using the bite of that open flesh to keep her focused. That pain was catching up to her, though, and she could feel it in the way she made that swing, the motion sluggish and not at all the quick, lightning-fast offense that she had fielded throughout the opening of the fight.

Her blade whistled through the air as the man at her side stepped away, his movement quick, his reflexes sure, but the dodge seemed almost easy. Like he hadn't put any effort into the evasion, aside from making a single step. The miss left her wide open, and she retracted her blade quickly, legs moving as quickly as she dared to put distance between them again.

Pressing the assault had done her no favors. She had hoped that keeping the pressure on would have made things swing further into her favor, but it seemed that perhaps that wasn't the wisest course. At least before, she'd been able to land a scratch on the man. Now, she was swinging at air. She tightened her grip on the blade and readied herself for the man's reposte, her weapon lifted, primed for another assault once she had worked her way through the hail of bullets to come.
As you walk past Enver Marshall II, you lash out with your sword narrowly missing as they step dexterously aside

If the girl could concentrate, she'd be really good and probably be kicking his *** right now. Enver moved out of the way of a blade that was spinning at him, trying to get another good slice in, only letting out a heavy sigh of relief as it missed him.

Distance. He had to keep distance.
She was a sword user and if he could get that distance and keep it, him being a gun user would outweigh how good she was with a sword. Which, as he just internally admitted was pretty damn good. As he spun around her to get behind the woman and keep moving, Enver paid her that much of a compliment with a salute of two fingers near his brow and a nod of his head.

He probably looked like a buffoon, running laps all around, trying to keep space between the two of them, but running around at a fair distance kept her away from him, and hopefully wondering what he was doing. Just as he came around for a second time, Enver lifted his large gun and when he was side to side with the woman, pulled the trigger once. When he saw where it connected, Enver's eyes doubled in size. Not where he intended to hit, but seemed like lady girl, Enver was destined to taking cheap pot shots. Hopefully Blonde Barbie didn't have anyone waiting at home for her. Tough break.

You sneak up on Starla and attempt to snipe them.Unfortunately, the only bullet that hits is one in the groin! Ouch!

She tried to back away.

She tried to step back, to turn away from the round that she knew was coming for her.

She had been doing well, so far, at keeping a distance between herself and the man's bullets, but this one had found its mark, biting into her flesh with a pain that made her yelp, her legs stopping beneath her and nearly sending her sprawling into the dust as she clamped her thighs together. The salute had distracted her.

That little show of respect had been unexpected, particularly after such a spectacular failure to strike at the man, earning nothing but dirt on her blade. It had been enough, though, and she had the agonizing taste of another bullet wound to remind her that she needed to keep her head in the game. She shook her head, trying to regain her footing while the man at her opposite looked on in what she thought might have been complete horror, but at this stage, being the second occurrence of this exact ordeal, she wasn't as sure as she had been before. Though, he did seem to pause just long enough for her to ready herself again. That, or he was shaken by the idea of what he'd done, but somehow she doubted that.

She grit her teeth, sucking in air in a hiss as she rushed at him, a wild twist of her blade whipping through the air, aiming for his head. He pulled back, just in the knick of time, the tip of her steel just barely catching the man's cheek, just along the socket of his eye. Blood caked the dirt on the end of her weapon, and she knew that she had to push, and push hard if she was going to get anywhere here.

She moved aside, her legs still carrying her, though they protested through the pain as she did what she could to assuage the burn of her exposed nerves. She took a deep breath, her fingers tight on the hilt of her weapon as she began thinking through her next assault.

Stepping out of the shadows, you lunge at Enver Marshall II with your sword, but they are too fast for you, and your sword merely scratches their cheek. The wound closes up almost instantly.

He was doing better than her, but she wasn't going to make this an easy win. Her sword came at him again, and Enver just barely moved out of the way, but still managed to get a scrape against his cheek. He gave her a golf clap and grinned, before his empty hand went to Enver's cheek to feel the depth of the cut. Unlike some of the other wounds, this one would more than likely heal just fine. Which was good for him. Scars in other places didn't really phase his movie career, but his mug? That was worth a million alone right there.

Enver only had a little bit of space between him and her, so he took the chance to take another shot. Only, he turned as someone shouted something he couldn't quite make out-but it sounded something along the lines of someone's mom. Now, Enver wasn't a momma's boy, hell, he wasn't even a daddy's boy either, but given that both his parents had died in the last three or so years, it did cause him to pause. And screw up his shot.
