When the tense silence of the night was shattered by the sudden shout, she knew she had to work quickly. It didn’t take her long to assess the woman in front of her – pale, shaking, a little disoriented. It was to be expected when of the undead decided to forgo any sense of humanity and instead, turned into rabid mongrels without a lick of sense. Running her tongue along the blunt edge of her teeth, she gracefully moved from her crouch to stand, fingers curled beneath the woman’s arm. “You need to go,” she urged, even as she plucked a card from her pocket.

“Take this, you know, if you need anything.”

She wasn’t someone that was comfortable with reassurance or nursing. In fact, she was more inclined to leave the woman propped against the brick until someone with experience came along, but she couldn’t. Not when the voices were growing closer, and yet another vampire stepped into view. With a snap of her teeth, she curled her fingers tight around the hilt of her sword, bright eyes taking in one face – and then the next, until finally, she found Ephraim. Without a word to her boyfriend, she took a step back, her arm brushing his as she returned her attention to the mess in front of them, just as Samson demanded the first vampire’s fangs. Well, that’s a new tactic.

She could already see the indecision dancing across Samson’s face, and she swallowed the urge to scream. Why the **** would he even contemplate letting him go? Shaking her head, she forced herself to turn from her teammate, and instead, narrowed her glacial glare on the newest vampire. “You’re ******* kidding me, right? Here’s how it’s going to go. It’s real simple, so try and keep up. You’re going to get another taste of death, and so is that fanged **** over there.”

Right then, a lot happened all at once. As Samson waited to hear the decision of the vampire, he spotted the arrival of Ephraim, who he supposed might have been the source of the earlier voice - though he suspected not. Didn’t seem the man’s style. Noted. He didn’t know the head of the Order all that well, but in their few interactions, Ephraim had come across as more composed and careful with his wording than that. And he certainly didn’t look flustered or enraged enough to account for a lapse in any of those observations.

Then another vampire showed up. Well ****. Things were about to get interesting he supposed. Especially considering this new guy seemed to have some kind of history with Sawyer, and Samson just didn’t see it being a particularly good one. This was confirmed when she confronted him. Things were getting more and more tense with every passing second, and it felt like that little dark alleyway was teetering on the very edge of a fight. It felt like someone had to make a choice one way or the other. And it seemed to Samson that Sawyer made the call.

Taste of death.

Right. Samson might have been new to the game, but he knew he needed to stop looking at vampires as people. It was difficult for a man who had spent most of his life in the service of people. His very basic nature demanded that he show mercy and forgiveness.

But one could not show mercy to a demon.

So he glanced from Sawyer to Ephraim, as if asking if they could take care of the new vampire on the scene. And his attention turned fully to the one whose head he'd attempted to lop in half only a few moments before. He said a small prayer. And then he launched into an attack. If God willed it, he would come out on the other side safe. If not, nobody could claim he had not done his duty.

"Give one up and hand it over!"

Ripper had moved by to pass the angry humans to cross in between them and the young upstart whose questionable behavior had been the cause which started off the whole trouble in the first place. He now held a heated aside in hissed conversation with the naive moon-calf over the decision in which that they had now found themselves intracted in to.

“First off, it will set a precedent how we can be reasoned with—and, sorry old ‘sod—but a single tooth is small potatoes to be compared with the damage you’ll get when all three of these blum codgers start swinging around enough steel to carve you up into tiny little pieces.”

Although his voice was lowered, he tried to impart a sense of urgency behind the choice now required.

Look, you’ve slipped up here and once upon a time there was when we might have gotten away with being able in doing it like that; but certain foibles recently has pushed people up on to a edge. You seem to have a hard enough head; so I hope that at least some of what I’m trying to say here is getting through enough to penetrate that thick skull of yours."

Lecovio was about to answer the demands of the long-shanked Marvel superhero come to life, who he had sized up as being capable to say the least. He was about to offer that instead of his fangs, he cross the American's palm with silver, and by silver he meant his knife. He glowed inwardly as he thought of his blade plunging so deep into that massive leathery palm that it sank all the way to the hilt, and it was during that brief fantasy that his blood rose and seemingly bubbled within his gut. The rage was coming over him like a roaring tempest.

But then two new figures arrived. Three vampire hunters now? It was in this moment of distraction that the large blue eyed human lunged at him.

A blade came at his face once more, and this time he didn't rely on the steel plate in his head to protect him. The large man was faster than he expected, and Lecovio only barely managed to evade his cheekbone being fully shattered. Instead, the sharpened steel left a clean red slice across his cheek.

In the same motion, Lecovio's jacket came up, and exploded outwards in a hail of bullets and cotton towards the man's lower half.

"One at a time then ya fuckers!" Lecovio howled as he ripped off his blazer.

The other vampire spoke, trying to calm him down and convince him to give up one of his teeth. He hesitated for a moment. He could simply teleport away, and ordinarily he'd never in a million years let such an attack go without violence. So why was he hearing the other vampire out?

Samson was a large man - that much could be blamed on genetics. There was something in the water in the West Virginia mountains that seemed to make he and his grow fast and strong. He moved in such a way that it seemed as if he was accustomed to vigorous, hard work. Dawn to dusk. He didn’t wield that axe like someone who had grabbed it either for its imposing looks or out of convenience. It was an extension of his hand, and suffice it to say - he was surprised when the vampire moved rapidly out of the way. He barely even drew blood, and he could actually see the wound beginning to slip closed as if it were little more than a papercut.

“**** guys, you didn’t tell me they moved this fast!” Despite having said as much, he had already tuned basically everything else going on in the alleyway out. This was a dance, and he wasn’t about to slack.

And even if he had been tuned in to what Ephraim and Sawyer were doing with the other vampire, the shot very near the family jewels was more than enough incentive to keep his eyes on the ‘prize’. Pain erupted from his right inner thigh as at least one bullet tore right through the skin and muscle to emerge larger on the other side and embed in the brick wall of the alley.

He snarled, and reared back. Not to put distance between him and Lecovio, but to let his instincts take over. His hand lifted and a blue wave of energy seemed to pour out in a shockwave that hit the vampire. The pain wasn’t distracting, it was pure and made him see more clearly. The blood wasn’t distracting, it flowed slick and hot.

He had fought zombies. Fought those abominations made of many corpses.

This was different.

This woke the bloodlust in him.

Had it not been for the tall man's attack, he might have been willing to listen to the other vampire's attempts at cooling things off a moment longer. Lecovio's brief moment entertaining ideas of reasonableness was dispelled as quickly as it had appeared, as he encountered what it felt like to be turned by a paladin for the very first time. His blood felt as though it was shrinking back within his veins, closing his arteries up like air being sucked out of a paper bag. He could literally feel his blood burn and dry up, all in the space of a split second.

He screamed, far higher pitched than his pride would later be comfortable with, and recoiled with wide eyes and fangs bared.

Instinctively he lashed out with a spell of his own. His eyes bore into his wounded enemy with ferocity approaching that of a cornered grizzly bear as he summoned dark forces to blind his target.
You blind Samson Krahn with your spell! They stumble around, their vision severely damaged
He planted his feet, automatic rifle brandished in one hand, and long knife held ready in the other. He expected these humans would not play fair, so he'd have to be ready to retaliate should one of the others come at him.

One moment he was ready for battle, and the next a wave of darkness washed over his senses. It was as if thick clouds of smoke had suddenly billowed in front of him, and had grown so dense as to make it impossible to make out what was directly in front of him. Honestly, the shock of the loss of his sight was more jarring than the damage done to his leg. He was a man who was used to being in control of himself and his body. So having that suddenly yanked out of his grasp only served to enrage him, making his lips peel away from his teeth, revealing the faint foaminess of spittle.

He knew the vampire’s general direction and that was all he needed as far as he was concerned. His shoulders rolled back, and he hefted his axe in both hands. A smart man might have rubbed his eyes to see if they could dispel the effects. Or might have called out for help in tracking down a nearby target. While Samson was not inherently stupid, that didn’t mean he was necessarily good at battle situations. So it didn’t even occur to him not to essentially run (literally blindly), swinging his axe like some sort of deranged madman.
You leap from concealment, but as your sword lashes out at Lecovio, it finds only the fabric of their clothing.
Of course, the problem with that logic (or lack thereof) was that Lecovio still retained all of his senses and could adjust accordingly. Samson already knew the vampire was fast. Very fast. So it shouldn’t have come as a surprise to him when not a single blow landed. In fact, he ended up sinking his axe’s blade into the brick wall with a scrape that made sparks fly. He yanked it free, a shower of brick dust leaving an arch through the air in his wake. And then he fell back a step, because he realized he wasn’t playing this smart, and that didn’t bode well for his survival.
Anyone interested in joining the fight can do so by hitting the 'attack' button under the avatar of the person you want to attack. This should automatically add you to the fight.
