Subject: Security Access
Robert Fisher:
It’s my first day on the job and there’s an issue with my name badge and my security clearance attached to the badge. I’m an intern from Harper Rock West University, but I was told I’d have access to over half of the facility. I can’t seem to access more than two floors, one being the main floor and another being the next level, which encompasses part of the animal testing unit and the introductory lab. I think this issue might have something to do with the fact that the security guard issued me a badge for Hudson Hanson, and my name is actually Jensen Hanson.
Do I need to contact Deborah in human resources or Scott in security? Should I contact both? Since you are my mentor, I thought it best to address these issues with you and search for some clarification. I’m still very excited about this opportunity, but I’m puzzled about my security clearance. So far, I’m getting coffees and sending unofficial emails between departments. The internship involved a more hands-on approach to further my education.
Please get back to me as soon as possible. Again, I am thankful for this opportunity.
Jensen Hanson

RE: Security Access
Jensen Hanson:
I’m proud to welcome you to the CFB Longslade Facility located in Harper Rock, Ontario! We take our internship programs as seriously as we take our employee positions. As one of seven-hundred students pulled for a possible internship, you have proven a serious dedication not only to your studies but also to your community.
Your major in Microbiology would put you at the forefront of our studies, and certainly, you would have security clearance to over half of the facility, if not more, but our interns are restricted to one level. You have been granted permissions to explore beyond those boundaries and both see, and participate in, the studies within animal testing and our introductory laboratory. You are an exception to the rule, and you should know as much!
Unfortunately, I’m not in the position to grant you further access, nor am I in the position to put you into contact with someone in a higher position. Neither Deborah, nor Scott, can give you further permissions. Longslade is a high-security facility, and most of our operations are beyond the level of classified. We are a government facility, specifically referenced as a military facility, and we cannot risk a security breach by allowing interns to wander the facility without both the clearance and supervision. If you wish to obtain access, please consider applying for a position here, at our beloved Longslade facility.
I hope I have addressed some of your main concerns. Please enjoy your internship here. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

I hate to bring this to your attention, but there have been a lot of incidents of harassment in the workplace. We have had an influx of individuals entering the facility with odd security badges. I offered a man coffee or a snack, just something quick from the cafeteria, and he growled at me. When I say that he growled at me, I mean that he growled at me. I reiterated that if he needed anything, he only needed to ask, and then he proceeded to -- well, he bared his teeth at me and then he hissed. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think he was a vampire, but I don’t want to broach such a serious subject in this email.
His name was Richard. I couldn’t get a good look at his last name. The coat covered a portion of his name badge. I don’t want to feel threatened in my work environment. After he hissed at me, I went back to the lab and tried to focus on my work, but I heard him shouting that he needed to see someone about something. He seemed out of his mind. He had security clearance for a good portion of the facility, which means I’ll likely run into him again. Please consider this a formal complaint.

RE: Harassment
Hudson Hanson:
On the behalf of this facility, I apologize. I want to assure you that we take every complaint very seriously. As an intern here at Longslade, you are every bit as important as any employee here. We will do everything in our power to make sure this type of behavior isn’t repeat behavior. Unfortunately, I cannot release the person's full name or security level, as that would be jeopardizing privacy laws we have in place, but I can tell you that I, personally, have spoken to the man in question about his behavior and he wished to convey his deepest apologies to anyone he offended. If you would like to pursue further action, I will need the paperwork listed under 3-B located under Human Resources on my desk by this Thursday.
If you have any further issues or complaints, don't hesitate to contact me by email, as that is the fastest route.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
