Checking her phone, she saw that, still, there was no message from Vex. They were supposed to have been at the bar ten minutes ago, and she was still standing outside in the parking lot of her apartment. She was a master of being fashionably late, but this was inching into the outright late. She gave a quiet huff and tapped out another text to her bestie, fingers gliding across the screen with an incredible speed and accuracy.
Hey Vex bby. We need 2
get going. Gonna b lst call b4
we evn get 2 the bar grl.
Still n the prkn lt. Pnk Camaro.
U kno the 1. Jst hrry. xoxo
She nodded, and locked the screen, wiggling the phone into the small clutch she carried her i.d. in, before tossing it into the car’s open window. She convinced herself that would be the last text. Blowing up the girl’s phone would be unseemly, and the last thing she wanted to do was annoy the girl into staying inside for the evening. She hadn’t waited this long for nothing, and besides, a piece as hot as Vex was likely to net a few extra looks their way, at least. That always made things a little more interesting, in her experience.
She chuckled at the thought of the evening that they were going to have and turned to look at her car. It was her pride and joy, the one thing she had bought with the money her prior master had given her, the one thing in the world that she really called her own and could really mean it. It was a real beauty, a real American classic, with a personal touch. It was an original body 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro, repainted with a custom bright pink and white racing stripe job, it screamed Bambi Ballard. Together, they would really be tearing up the town in style, and if they just so happened to stumble into any trouble, then it would make for a more than adequate getaway car. Though, they would draw quite a bit of attention. That was the only real drawback.
But, she didn’t really think about that. All she cared for was that, as she had hoped, it really fit her, and she loved it. It was pretty, it was sharp, and it was fast. Everything she was looking for in her life. She grinned at the car and turned her bright blue gaze up to the window of Vex’s apartment to see the light still on. She tapped the heel of her strappy brown sandal impatiently against the asphalt, the soft click, click, click the only sound in the empty parking lot as she shook her head and pulled her thin shawl over her lacy tank top, suddenly really not liking the quiet of the lot as she listened to the sound of her heel echo off the tall, featureless brick of the apartment complex. “Come on, Vex. You live in the creepiest ******* place. I’m ready to get out of here, girl.”
