There is that too.
I just think that for me personally, two different dice rolls might be confusing to new players.
Or then..what if player A likes using the site, while player B likes using the grid?

Why are you taking me through troubled waters, I asked? Because your enemies cannot swim, he replied.

You're right, that is quite confusing. I think I'll have to do away with the grid-side one, once the chat one is in place. Google writers can always use chats to roll their dice.

How can we do that? If we have not posted anything.. how do we roll? I am confused how that would work.

Re: Question on Roleplay Action Rolls
Well I'm thinking that chat-based dice rolls would have to have a permanent record, so it would work if you just jumped into chat and used a dice roll. It'd be basically the same system as exists for forum RPers.
Though honestly, google docs isn't a main concern of mine. If people want to roll dice and are using google docs, then maybe they can post up until the point of the rice roll, roll using the forum system, and then continue?

What if we don't go to chats. Yes, that would be me.

Well, I mean Path is set up either for forum roleplayers or chat roleplayers. If you don't use either to roleplay, then I don't know what to suggest.Dominique wrote:What if we don't go to chats. Yes, that would be me.

Re: Question on Roleplay Action Rolls
Why not simply use an online dice/coin?
Odds/Tails = No or fail etc.
Even/Heads = Yes or succeed etc.
I mean if you are that keen on google docs, why not simplify the idea behind the dice and just use a yes/no system with a coin flip? (Example: Can Johnny hit Cathy with 2 bullets. *Coin shows tails* So no Johnny failed his attempt.)
This site has a coin flip with an on screen record of the outcomes for the "session" you have it open. It's still more of an honor system OR it could be screen captured if anyone had doubts.
http://www.virtualcointoss.com/
Current Session:
Heads: 15 Tails: 20
Total Flips: 35
I'm all for the forum dice/chat dice. But as a relatively new player, all these features are confusing for newer players.
Yes the wiki is handy but again it's a lot to take in.

Re: Question on Roleplay Action Rolls
2¢ --- I wouldn't recommend marginalising those who use google docs, David. I have yet to engage or speak with a roleplayer who doesn't have at least one thread going that way. Some people feel more comfortable writing in the privacy of a shared document before posting the completed thread to the forum, for a variety of reasons. If you want an active community, then you need to take into account their needs and preference to a certain extent. And part of your community uses google docs, with some using it exclusively to write every thread before posting it here. If you make it so that people have no choice other than pick forum or chat in order take advantage of the storyteller / dice system (by removing one that is perfectly functional on grid), players might simply overlook this tool altogether and/or get considerably less active. Either way, I personally think the grid dice roller should stay to ensure that those who write offsite (to later post) have the ability to continue to do so.
As for the system on the forum, I agree with the need for more options, like luck.

Fair enough, I'll keep the grid dice roller where it is.
