Introspection

Post by Duana (DELETED 9173) »

"Who are you?" A simple question asked by most people and on the surface it is. I am Duana. But in reality, I am not. I don't even know who I am. Were that to be my answer, I'd surely end up locked away in an asylum while doctors muttered about delusions. If any cared to look past the statement, they would find it to be the truth.

Perhaps it would be best to start at the very beginning, or at least the beginning as I know it. No one knows where I was born, when I was born and they certainly have no idea even to start the search for my birth parents even if that was their wish. What is known in exceptionally minimal.

On New Year's Eve 1989, in Los Angeles, California, amidst the sea of drunkards and accident victims, a lone woman approached a hospital worker with a baby in her arms. It is said that she forced the child onto the worker declaring that if they did not take the infant she'd simply leave her on the nearest park bench. No one, not even the security cameras, caught a glimpse at the woman's face.

Given this was well before the first Safe Haven laws, once the woman had left the hospital, the police had been called. The infant was examined and found to be in good health if a bit malnourished. What little evidence was available - the simple yellow blanket and the dingy grey onesie - were bagged and tagged appropriately while the infant was redressed in clothes provided by the Child Services worker who had arrived shortly after the police. Once the remainder of the statements had been taken, the Child Services worker had been free to take the infant.

An emergency call had been made to a nearby approved foster family asking them to keep the infant until more permanent arrangements could be made once everyone reopened for business on Tuesday the Second. With their agreement, the infant was placed with them for a couple days.
