Re: Grid Archiving

I remember when Doc was doing an abortion of a fade beast.. I had asked David about the fetus.. he said it would ash.

He mentioned that vampires that lose and arm or a leg, in battle.. the limbs ash.. they do not stay corporeal. That once it leaves their body it ashes..

So no hair in the shower drain :D

Doc wrote:per the wiki.. the only path that doesn't ash or dissipate is Killer.

When a Shadow vampire dies, he or she does not turn to ash like some of the other paths, but disperses into a dark substance which resembles smoke,...

Stranger still are the properties of a Shadow's blood, which doesn't drip or ooze, it splashes on the fabric of reality and hangs in the air. It is as if the blood hits an invisible object and simply floats there, spattered on nothingness, until it disperses a few moments later in the same fashion a shadow will disperse when killed.

---

A Mystic dies in the common vampire fashion; they turn to ash and crumble

---

A Telepath dies and is reborn in the normal vampire fashion; they crumble to ash, ...

---

An Allurist dies and is reborn in the same manner as most vampires; they turn to ash when killed, and then return naked when reborn.

---

Unlike other vampires, when a Killer dies they leave behind their body just as a human would. This body remains a uninhabited shell until the vampire can return from the dead to re-possess it.

---

A Necromancer dies much like any other vampire, except that it seems to take a lot longer for their body to age, corpsify, crumble, and fall apart as ash.

---

I believe that's only body parts. Blood, I think, stays, except for with shadows.

As for the powers, I know several were suggested for the paladin mastery. Maybe one of those could be nerfed a little bit and fit into the collective recognition slot.

For vampire hunter, maybe you could set it up to either

1) Give the location of 1 random vampire

Or

2) Increase the anima cost and make it so the paladin can find a specific vampire (usable once per day or something so it's not OP).
The 1 random vampire thing is already a paladin power. Or am I confused by what you meant?

It's not random, it's a random known vampire

That is somewhat contrary to something you said earlier.. I am sorry I dont remember the context.. but it was something about severed limbs .. gunshots.. blood splatter and blood stains from a vampire at a crime scene.. you alluded to the fact the blood would disappear from the crime scene.. because the CSI's would have no blood to test.

So the blood stains do stay?

I'm certain it was answered on the q&a thread, but it's buried in one of the pages somewhere. I wonder if Josh might remember better? I recall somebody saying that it might not make a lot of sense when trying to turn somebody, if the blood just vanished immediately after, so I feel like it was decided the blood does stay. I'm probably wrong though!

As for the CSI, even if they did investigate the blood there's nothing to say there would be anything different about it from a scientific perspective.

One thing that worries me about the getting rid of IDs thing is that it could encourage crossing / god modding, which is bad for a roleplay-centric game. I mean, people could attack vamps and claim they knew they were vamps because X BS reason.

I addressed this here.

Basically the idea is that vampire blood kind of has a life of its own outside of the will of the vampire. Not like a conscious mind, but a desire to perpetuate its own existence so it doesn't operate the same way severed limbs do. A vampire's body itself is (to an extent) a projection of the vampire's perception of their existing state, whereas their blood is independent of that.

I'm not 100% sure where I read that, but I remember researching the topic in the wiki and by looking at past answers you (David) made on the subject before arriving at that conclusion.

I'd say that blood would eventually fade, but only because the belief that vampire blood ashes has become so popular and is used so much. I personally don't like the idea of modifying canon for the sake of popularity, but I also don't want to force people to change a lot of existing RP.

Suffice it to say that if vampire blood does ash, or fade, it would not be immediate. So a vial system could work just fine.

@ David: I think that's what you're asking? Let me know if I got something wrong XD

Could the same be achieved by a human attacking a vampire in an RP thread? I mean if someone wants to create a flimsy excuse, they're going to create a flimsy excuse. I don't necessarily think that warrants halting a potentially strong change. If that person is crossing, it's a subjective thing anyway. There's rarely a case where a person can objectively say 'That's crossing because the person admitted to it on the forum and was using information only the player had'.

It would still be up to the mod team to decide just how much the in character weighs against any potential out of character animosity (etc), and act accordingly. The only difference is that a human character would need to wait for an ID with the current system. Unless you're talking about human characters that attack vampires on sight. Period. End of story. At which point the character would probably die pretty quickly anyway, and there are some logical reasons for why they could assume a person is a vampire anyway.

This makes sense to me. It's, in affect, the life force.. so it has attributes that keep it corporeal longer.

We really need this (once it is written up) in the cannon.. that apart from Shadows', vampire blood outside the body has a limited 'shelf life' and will dissipate into ash over time.

Is there is a time limit on the quest for blood vials? Like "Get 10 vials of blood by 7 days?" That way the quest and the time period that the blood stays around is in sync? If the quest has to be done in a matter of days.. it makes sense it is because the blood will ash/dissipate.
