Wiki Newbie Page

I know The David is already decided on a NO to a newbie board here. But one last thought just in the hopes he might read this. You can't post on a wiki. And by that I mean threads like 'how did you find path/blood' and the main 'welcome' thread would just maybe both see more productivity (not just traffic but making connections asap for new players and more feedback as well from new players) and also, imo, that new players may be a lot more likely to request help or ask questions in a place that they know is dedicated to new players, like a new players board.

I also wanted to bump this thread.

This is a thread that should be easy for new players to see. This sort of discussion that we old timers here are *mainly* the only ones putting in any feedback. We really do new fresh eyes. New eyes from players who only just have started at path and/or blood. Perhaps even start another thread at blood?

I'm not devaluing anyone's input at all. I'm just suggesting that what we take for granted, not everyone knows. Despite the best of a several players at blood to be as new player friendly as possible, we ended up in a scramble finding someone with throw due to a (absolute sweetheart) new vampire being left out for several hours in the wilderness. She got lucky. But why did it happen?

I would like to propose a new formatting for the Guide information in the Wiki. There would be a Synopsis/Summary (for those who just need some quick info), and then an elaboration below it. The summary would be maybe 5 brief sentences, then after another head (like "Elaboration"), you could view the lengthier explanation.

Also, I wouldn't mind if there was a Visual Editor like all the 'cool kid' Wiki Software out there has.

So say for Rituals, you’re proposing there’s a brief overview of the skill at the top of the page before the explanations begin in how to actually use the skill?

Or are you suggesting a synopsis of each section of the page - in this case, how to do a ritual, find times, etc?

Or did I miss the point entirely?

Here is a completely random, useless example of what I'm talking about.

 

VAMPIRE

Overview
Vampires are the predominant supernatural creatures of the Path of the Vampire lore. As in traditional folklore, they are hurt by the Sun and are active during the night. Within the Vampire community, there are Bloodlines, Factions, and Sub-Groups within Vampire Society, and their members vary in terms of ethnicity, national origin, religious beliefs, etc.

In-Depth Description
Several paragraphs of data would go here, with special terms (like 'Vampire', or 'Harper Rock', etc) would be Hyperlinks, and would link to those respective pages. While this 'In-Depth Description' is paragraphs long, and covers the ins-and-outs of Vampires within our lore, the "Overview" will suffice for people who are just looking to get a quick, succinct description that can be read (and then navigated away from) in a moment or two, without any heavy reading.

This would benefit both those who like deep, lengthy descriptions with lots and lots of details, as well as those who would like the "tl;dr" version, without either group having to do without.

Just let me know what links are/can be updated for the welcome PM, too -- I tried to make that brief so it's not a tl;dr scenario, but linking the newbs to the pertinent places (or the most common FAQs we've had from them in the chats).
