Family Dinner Anyone? [Cedric Costello; Invite]

Post by Syn (DELETED 7911) »

Quietly, Syn sat in a corner booth as per normal, while her laptop sat perched in front of her. Its gentle glow out-lined the pale features of Syn’s face before she lifted a hand to brush back chocolate locks from her face. What exactly was she doing? Well, her mouse was hovering, as she questioned the pros and cons of potentially hacking into a law enforcement’s computer to get a quick peek and maybe download a few of their files. The next question that followed was; is it worth possibly having her computer’s IP traced back to her should it be triangulated? Decisions, decisions and none of them had an ouch of emotion colouring them. She could just simply look at it with a clear mind and develop a clear and simple debate just as to why the vampire shouldn’t hack into the law enforcement’s systems. The first and clear point was, if she was found and they realised that she was a vampire, it wouldn’t bode well for the vampire society.

Humans had gotten a couple of months to get used to the idea that vampires actually existed and it seemed that humans and vampires were getting along… Somewhat. So if a vampire was caught hacking into a law enforcement system it wouldn’t look good at all. Potentially, it would look like a vampire was trying to cover up another vampire’s kill… Pausing for a moment the woman let the irony of that sink in, simply because that was exactly what she had done before humans had knowledge that vampires actually existed and were not mere myth as they once thought. It was within this line of thinking that her mobile phone that was sitting upon the table beside her laptop, buzzed and her blue eyes flickered to the screen. 'Lucy Laceflower' flickered across the screen and the woman slid her finger across the screen and sent her mother to voice mail.

Her mother called often. At the bare minimum, it was once a day and Syn didn’t feel the need to talk every day. Why? It just seemed rather unnecessary and time consuming. Why sit there talking about nothing important when something else was sitting in line to be completed. Her mother hadn’t exactly been like this, at least, not when Syn had been human. It had only been just recently, after she had turned, that her mother had become a problem that just wouldn’t let up. Before it had been a simple case of what if she found out about vampires? Now, it was plastered across the board that vampires existed, so her mother should at least have an inkling of what was going on within Harper Rock, but she wasn’t sure if she should tell the woman about her transformation and the details that had cause it to happen. What normal woman would have thought that their first child would be a fadebeast?

Slowly, the woman leaned back into her seat and her finger slide along her mouse board to bring up a listing of apartments available within Harper Rock. Blue eyes flickered over the possibilities, but she already had an eye upon one that she had been watching for some time. The reason why it hadn’t budged much, was the price and she didn’t expect it to move, at least not in the next couple of days anyway. Glass hitting the floor caught her attention then and she lifted her gaze to view a woman looking rather flustered and a waitress looking rather frustrated at the mess that she now had to clean up. Blue eyes flickered back to the flustered woman and slowly she closed her laptop as she rested an elbow upon the table. Syn then rested her chin within her palm as she recognised the flustered woman, how could she not.

Blonde hair pinned up into a high bun and a set of frames framed her heart shaped face. Blue eyes reflected back to the vampire and a smile smoothed away the redness within the woman’s cheeks. ”Syn! You’re ok!” The vampire simply continued to slowly glance over the woman’s form as she walked towards Syn's booth and Syn leaned back only to cross her right leg over her left. ”And why wouldn’t I be… Mother.”

Cedric stared at himself. Not in the mirror, no. That was not possible. There were plenty of other things he’d found himself capable of, however. Many other things that should be impossible but were not. Things like the desire that people have at different points in their lives to have a clone. A doppelganger. Cedric laughed and his other self rolled its eyes.

”What am I supposed to call you?” Cedric asked. It was strange, circling around behind the doppelganger. When did one ever get to see themselves from behind? He arched a brow, nodding in satisfaction. He certainly didn’t look bad – and he certainly wouldn’t be telling anyone about checking himself out in the privacy of his own office.

”My name is Cedric,” the Doppelganger replied. Amusement was etched all over the man’s face, and again Cedric had to laugh. Was he really going to sit here and joke with himself? Argue with himself over his own name? He shook his head. This other man was his own creation. This other man would bend to Cedric’s will. Could. It would. Was it even flesh and bone or was it some kind of projection? It didn’t matter, did it. This was going to make thing so much easier. This doppelganger – he assumed it had the same intelligences as Cedric did. Right? He’d figure it out, sooner or later.

”Your name… will be Costello,” he said. It was Cedric’s surname. It suited. It would work. The doppelganger, for the moment, was even dressed the exact same way Cedric was. The appearance of his other self had been a surprise – it had occurred at the very moment Cedric’s stress levels had peaked; how could he even be thinking of starting a new business? He could barely keep up with three.

And now, now he had a living, breathing echo of himself. One that moved and talked and showed some signs of intelligence. This had to be a good thing. Unless… no, he wouldn’t think about whether it was a bad thing or not. At least the echo didn’t contradict him. At least it wasn’t going to kill Cedric in his sleep and steal his identity. Maybe. A crash of glass outside caught both their attentions. Cedric held out a hand to tell Costello to stay. He even added a ”Stay, Costello,” for good measure.

Sauntering out of his office, Cedric assessed the scene. A blonde, meandering away from the waitress cleaning up the mess of the broken glass – at least it was only a wine glass, and not one of the double-layered latte mugs that had hit the deck, otherwise they’d be picking glass off the floor for days. The blonde who’d caused the fuss was approaching Syn. Syn called her mother, and Cedric was instantly intrigued. He wandered out of his office properly, closing the door behind him. He hovered nearby -- he told himself he hovered in case Syn needed his aid, but really he was just far too curious.
