BACKGROUND
It has been a slow decline, first heralded by a waning of the Crow's power. Over the space of nearly two years, secrecy has slowly slipped out of the hands of vampire as more and more information about their existence has come to light. Finally with one of their own captured, the veil has completely fallen, leaving them vulnerable and exposed. Now vampires have become the news story. Gone are the online news articles tracking celebrities every minutes of every day, replaced by splashes of images captured in Harper Rock. On every news channel, in the magazines, talked about on countless blogs and vlogs, there is no taking it back, no going back into the dark. Vampires are real, and this is the world we live in.
By now, millions, if not billions of people have seen it for themselves. Countless comments, and reblogs, and retweets later, it's what everyone is talking about. A discordant symphony of voices with as many different opinions as there are people living. Already correlations are being made between spikes in homicide and missing persons cases, and the discovery of vampires. The scariest part? Nobody knows precisesly how much humans know. How many supernatural secrets have been spilled?
With the fate of the Harper Rock vampires at stake, public opinion holds more sway than ever. This is your opportunity to shape it. How will vampires respond to their untimely exposure? What precedent will they set? How will people view them? By participating in this side story, you get to help decide.

OVERVIEW
Over the next month, you will have the opportunity to make a major impact on the future of Path of the Vampire's story. The purpose of this side story is to create a baseline for the invisible slider which determines how humans view vampires and the relationship between the two species. If vampires create a very positive impression during this side story, then when the slider is implemented, it will be a step towards peace and cooperation. If vampires create a very negative impression during this side story, then it's a step towards all out war. The choice is yours.
You can feel free to be as creative as you want with your threads. Is your character a former celebrity? Maybe they agree to meet on a talk show. Or maybe they just go out of their way to do good deeds. Or maybe they wish to dominate humans. Every single choice vampires make will have some sort of impact. For example, if an Allurist were to enthrall a human on live television, that might have a very specific impact on canon and the way humans perceive vampires. Similarly, the way vampires act may have numerous impacts during and after the time frame of the side story. The storytellers will be reviewing every single thread so be sure to put as much thought into them as you can!
Be as realistic as possible, realism in this case meaning to stick to connections your characters might have, abilities they possess, and skills they have. Open threads are very encouraged because allowing for a certain level of opposition never hurt a good storyline. The important thing is to have fun and remember that everything your characters do during this side story might have a huge impact.
Human characters are especially important in this side story and will become more prominent figures in storylines in the near future as they reflect a microcosm of what the larger human community feels, so threads involving playable human characters are especially important!

RULES & GUIDELINES
There are no sign ups for this side story. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to participate.
The competition begins July 22, 2016 and ends 11:55 EST September 22, 2016.
Please ONLY post your threads on the Hardcore Ruleset forum and mark somewhere in the title that it's for the side story, so the storytellers know to read.
Please also send a PM to Azraeth with a summary of the thread once it's complete. You can do this any number of times for any number of completed threads. The summary is to help the storytellers with determining the impact results of the thread. You can do this at any point during the competition. In some cases impact results will go into effect almost immediately.
To earn the participation prize, you must post at least once. This is per character, not per player. If you only post once, the post must be at least 500 words, to avoid people posting a few words just to get credit.
The grand prize goes to the character who posts the largest number of words during the event.
You can participate in multiple threads with the same character.
Every thread in this side story is an impact thread, meaning the more people and the stronger the plot involved, the greater the change the thread is going to have. Solo threads are discouraged for this reason, but not totally disallowed. Just don't expect a major impact from a solo thread.
Threads may be any length, posts may be any length. Live chat transcripts are totally allowed (though standard live chat rules apply).
