Confronted with Maddison’s attitude, Robin was momentarily thrown for a loop. Though he did lead her toward the nearest shop where he knew they sold blood bags – would they even be black market anymore? – and led the way when purchasing the ‘food’, he didn’t say much else besides.

It was hard to be straightforward. This was a mistake that he had made, when he should have known better, and it was something he felt he shouldn’t stop apologising for. The guilt softened him, made him want to coddle Maddison somehow, as if a light-hearted nature might help her better than a stern one. Robin hadn’t known whether he had it in him to be stern, though he realised otherwise as soon as they landed in Maddison’s apartment. He could have complimented her on it, could have thanked her for inviting him. There were plenty of things he could have done, but instead of looking around and making himself at home like he might otherwise have done, he turned to Maddison, full height straightening his shoulders and a hardness at the edge of his eyes.

”I can apologise to you until the end of time, if that’s what you want. But that won’t change what’s happened. You can snap at me and be stroppy with me and complain about it or you can do your best to just get on with it, and listen to what I have to say without sarcastic retorts,” he said. Clearly, the small speech had been building up while they walked; her attitude, though not unfounded or unexpected, had riled Robin in a way he was rarely riled.

”Do you have a mirror?” he asked. It was a stupid question. She was a model, of course she would have a mirror. Any normal person would have a mirror.

”Go and look at yourself in it. If you can see yourself, I know what path you are. If you can’t, we’ll have to investigate some more,” he said, brow arched. If she could see herself, it meant she was an Allurist. Robin crossed his fingers, hoping that she could. It would mean she was the same as him, and their path would be a lot smoother.

Maddison was taken back by his hardness. It only made her more frustrated. She squared her shoulders, though they were like ten times smaller than his, and stood up straighter, meeting his gaze. She was only about a few inches from him when he scolded her. Or at least that's what it felt like.

"I don't want you to apologize. I've told you that five million times now. I also have a right to be snappy and stroppy right now." She had no idea what stroppy meant, but she continued on. "I'm tired. I was just killed and brought back as a vampire. I think I've got a little bit of a right to have an attitude. Also. I just want to get out of this skin tight dress and get comfortable. You don't want to give me a break, you want to just keep on piling on information. That's fine, but dude let me get undressed first."

Her attitude matched his in every way. He was riling her up in a way that she hadn't been riled before. The blonde's chest heaved even though there was no reason for it. She was angry. And then he switched gears. What the ****?

"Yes I have a mirror." She answered the question like it was one of the stupidest questions on the planet. Who didn't have a mirror? And look at her, did he really think she wasn't going to have one?

In order to cool herself down, she walked away from him and into the bathroom. The door was shut behind her and she looked into the mirror, and what did she see staring back at her? A beautiful blonde who only looked more alluring than she had has a human. "Well, it looks like he will know what 'path' I am."

Maddison stepped out of the bathroom after a few minutes and walked back into the room he was in.

"I could see myself in the mirror."

Robin definitely wasn’t built for this kind of thing.

Where he thought sternness might earn him a little respect, it instead only succeeded in luring out more attitude. Curling his fingers in his pockets, the urge to bolt reared. The tension was uncomfortable, the seeming seething dislike a deterrent. He didn’t move from his spot just inside the front door, feet glued to the spot. Even her heated declaration of getting undressed failed to get any kind of rise out of Robin.

As she went into the bathroom he waited for some kind of exclamation, or a scream as she discovered she no longer had a reflection. When she came back out – still dressed, thankfully – and told him that she could see herself he was, foremost, relieved. Before he flinched.

Should he tell her now that her good looks wouldn’t last? That over time, the body in the mirror would decay, the flesh would fall away, the bones would start to show as the eyes turned to jelly. Should he wander back into the bathroom and tell her to come with him, so that she could see what he looked like? Or should he wait for her to find out on her own? At the moment, given that she was still in her skin tight dress and her attitude didn’t look like it was going anywhere, he doubted he should.

”I can leave,” he said. It wasn’t uttered as a question, or as an awkward uncertainty. It had the vague intonation of a threat, though it wasn’t one. He’d just got done telling Maddison that he should stay with her, but now he was wondering whether it was even a good idea. He had responsibilities, but anyone who knew Robin knew that he wasn’t great with confrontation. He would avoid confrontation at all costs.

”If that would make you more comfortable. I can leave my number with you, and I can go,” he said, brow arched inquisitively as he waited to be told what she wanted.

She stood there and looked at him. He was threatening to leave. Something Maddison was not akin too. She coughed and crossed her arms. "You don't need to leave. I just need a moment." If he didn't understand that. Then that was on him. She literally just died and came back and he was forcing all this information on her. She took a breath and then disappeared into a hallway and then soon her bedroom.

Like she had said, she really needed a minute. A minute to collect herself. A minute to change from her dress. And a minute to loose her attitude. The blonde sat down on her bed and put her head into her hands. Was this really all happening? She pinched her arm just to make sure. And what do you know? "Ow." It hurt. Darnint. This really is happening.

Maddison stood up and went over to her closet. Off went her skin tight dress and on went a sports bra and a pair of swishy shorts that just covered her ***. Normally, she worked out in the privacy of her own home and didn't have to worry about looking inappropriate in public. But however, she had a rocking body so she didn't mind.

She walked back out to the living room, to see if he was still there. After all, he could just leave her here to fend for herself or he could actually still be out in the room. She hoped for the later of the two.

The edge to Maddison’s tone appeared to disperse, but even upon being told he didn’t have to leave, Robin still didn’t move. It wasn’t until she’d disappeared into the bedroom that his feet finally unglued from the ground, lanky body meandering toward the lounge area. Although all he really wanted to do was poke around, see if she had a bookshelf and, if so, which authors she preferred, he kept his hands and his curiosity to himself.

For now.

She was right, of course. She had every right to be upset, or to need time. Robin shouldn’t push, and so he would leave his little bomb about the mirror image until later. And he wouldn’t go prying through her belongings, either. Where Maddison before had issued qualms about being an imposition, now it felt like the tables had flipped. Robin was the imposition. He was a thing that was out of place in this little cocoon she had created for herself. In this familiar nest he was an invasive species.

When he heard the bedroom door open and caught movement in the corner of his eye, Robin glanced over his shoulder. He couldn’t help the slack-jawed stare – he hadn’t meant to be slack-jawed, anyway, and made amends by promptly pressing his lips together and forcing himself to appear impassive. He wasn’t sure which was more revealing – the skin-tight dress or the current outfit. So long as she was comfortable, he supposed.

”Feeling better?” he asked. There’d be no more talk of paths or abilities, of dos and don’ts – not until Maddison herself broached the topic. She’d needed time and space and Robin would do his best to give it, until and if he deemed he should do otherwise. And all the while, he would try to appear comfortable, and at home. It was strange, to feel out of place. It didn’t matter which stranger had invited him in, Robin had always felt at home in other people’s space. This time, he blamed the guilt. It had to have been the guilt that made him feel so ******* awkward.

Maddison did have a bookshelf and she actually had a wide collection of books. Stories, poems and biographies. Shel loved Edgar Allen Poe. Just because she was a blonde and a model who worked in Fashion, didn't mean she wasn't smart. She had gone to college and had a degree in business. She wanted to run her own store one day. She wasn't exactly sure that would happen now.

But maybe.

She noticed how off standish he was and she certainly hoped this wasn't how he was always going to be. She hadn't mean to snap, she just had been overwhelmed. The blonde took a seat in her big oversized couch chair. It practically engulfed her small frame. "I do feel better. It was nice to get out of that dress." She rested back for a minute and forgot her manners.

"Oh crap, do you want something to drink? To eat?" She stood up, the belly button ring sparkling in the light from her lamps. "I have water, juice, milk, tea, uh...blood." She rubbed over her neck, awkwardly. She would have to get used to the blood part. She leaned against the side of her chair and looked over him.

Her thoughts started to wander and soon she had to blink to bring herself back from it. The thoughts didn't need to be thought. They were too inappropriate. "So. What do we do now?"

She hoped that he had a plan, because she did not.

Robin slowly shook his head.

”Although I can eat and have cravings, I’m never ‘hungry’ and I don’t need anything, no,” he said, allowing Maddison to relax. Although he could do with some blood, he’d have some later. The thirst didn’t bother him; it was a vague nagging that he could very easily ignore, for now. He cleared his throat, tempted to ask her if she was actually ready this time for ‘what now’. Rather than submit to the urge for attitude, he instead leaned forward, his elbows on his knees.

”There are paths,” he started slowly. ”Different area of expertise that vampires start on, I suppose depending on their personalities and interests as humans. You’re an Allurist. You’re the same as me, so this is going to be easier,” he said, equally as slow. He didn’t want to rush, or overwhelm.

”I can tell you what that means – I can tell you what you’ll be capable of. I can tell you what the other paths are. I can talk about the history of this city, and about all the other creatures you might encounter,” he said. The city was rife with myth and lore, so many things that Robin himself had been shocked to discover, incredulous and disbelieving. There was so much violence, too, and though it was hard to sidestep sometimes, Robin had managed.

”…or we can just chat. Regularly. About regular things. And just get to know each other a little bit first. If that’ll make you more comfortable. We can… wait until tomorrow night to start telling you about everything,” he said, leaning back just a scooch so that he could rub his palms against his thighs. He felt like they should be sweating, but they weren’t. Just another habit that he had to try to banish.

Maddison sighed and leaned back against her chair. She listened to him talk, taking it all in. She was sure her mind was going to explode, but she had asked what now and so he was giving her options. She thought for a moment and then leaned forward as well, luckily her sports bra was holding in all of her assets.

She looked at him and shrugged a little. She was a little bit hungry or well thirsty. "Excuse me." She stood up and went into the kitchen. She got out the blood and poured some into a mug to heat up in the microwave. The blonde bounced on her toes as the blood heat up in the microwave. When it was done, she pulled it out, put the lid on and then a straw inserted into the hole.

She settled back down into her seat and took a small sip. Gosh, it was so awkward. She offered him a polite smile. "Thank you." She muttered and then rested back again, mug sitting in the crook of her legs.

"So I guess, I want to know more about my path and what it all means. What are the other paths? How did the city come about? After that, I guess we can just talk casually for now."

She nodded some and then leaned back, hand resting on her bare stomach.

Had he known that Maddison was going to get up and get some more blood he might have taken her up on the offer, but while she was moving around the kitchen he decided that it was better that she keep all the blood for herself. His knee bounced and his fingers clicked, a restlessness clinging to his limbs. He wanted to get up and walk around, wanted to explore and get ahead of the game. But he didn’t. He waited. When Maddison came back, when she finally responded to his earlier speech, he laughed. Pushing his fingers through his hair, he leaned back on the couch and forced himself to still.

”This is awkward. Isn’t it? It’s awkward,” he said, throwing it out there. It was like an elephant in the room, and he thought it might be better if they shone a light upon its rough grey hide. And yet, he wondered whether he’d just made things more awkward. It just felt strange to make a dot-point plan of what they would talk about. He cleared his throat, and tried to forget he’d pointed out the awkwardness.

”The city came about like every other city does. But… as it is now, some guy four or five years ago did a ritual, it opened a rift. Between this realm, where we’re standing, and the Shadow Realm. That’s where we go, if we die. To the Shadow Realm. We can come back – I never have, never really want to experience it either. But anyway, a bunch of elders were freed. They’re the heads of the bloodlines. That’s from where we all stem,” he said. That explained the city. Kind of. He took a deep breath.

”You’re an Allurist. Same as me. It means we can still eat food, we appear more human than the others. You’ll uhm… you’ll not want to look in the mirror later on. It’s not pretty…” he said. She’d asked about the other paths, but he could talk about that later. They had to focus on her own path, first.

Of course it was awkward. Thank you Robin for making it more awkward. She rested back in her seat and took a drink from her mug. She felt weird drinking blood in front of him, but what else was she supposed to do. She was thirsty and he of course was her sire now. She barely knew this dude though, and they had been through a slew of emotions in the last twenty-four hours. Flirtation, anger, sadness, sarcasm, and a whole bunch of attitude. Mostly from her side.

"Yes it's awkward." She agreed with him and let it go at that. There was no point in continuing their acknowledgment of how awkward they were being. She took a deep breath and listened to him explain the city. It was rather interesting, she made a note to check out more about it at a later date. She wanted to know everything, really.

When he told her not to look in the mirror, anger washed over her features. It was one thing that Maddison prided herself on, her looks. Granted, she'd look fine to others but to herself? She's look awful! That was awful! The blonde twisted in her seat and didn't mention anymore about what she would look like in the mirror. It was best not to think about it.

She tucked her feet underneath her and looked over at him. He looked odd on her couch. Normally there was never a male that graced her apartment. Maddison had higher standards, so she never brought males home. Truth be told, males didn't flock to her like one might think. She sighed and then rested back.

"So what do you want from me?
