Bittersweet Memories

Post by Prudence »

<Every> It had been almost a year, maybe two, the last time that Every had found the pendant with the design on it. Once, it had meant something to her - a symbol towards the DoD that she had suggested. It was as she tossed the piece of jewelry up and down in thought that she pulled her phone from her pocket, scrolling down to a name that she hadn’t spoken to in a while before sending a text. It was out of the blue, but what the hell.

[text] Hey Pru, it’s Eve. I found something that I’d like to give you. You busy?

<Prudence> The redhead was wading through vampire soot as she wandered the lionelli fortress. It was a typical run for her-if not there, then the caverns. Nathaniel wasn’t in the caverns, so she suspected he was somewhere in the castle. It was just a matter of finding him. And while she did that, Prudence didn’t mind dispersing of some wanna be bad asses that appeared from nowhere.

Prudence rounded a corner and finally found what she was looking for. “Hey, baby.” She said with a small smirk before she pounced on him and had them both crashing to the floor of the castle. “Tag.” She said with a cackle before vanishing into the shadows and running away. He could probably find her easily enough, her steps weren’t quieted, an intentional mishap on her part. And before she could get too far, her phone went off, blaring some tune she didn’t recognize for a span of seven or eight seconds. “Well shoot.” Prudence groaned as her booted feet scuffed the castle’s floor as she hid in a corner in the southwest part of the second floor. She looked at the message and then said ‘hmmm.’

Prudence honestly had no idea who Eve was. But it was strange that her name popped up, which meant that Prudence and her must have exchanged in some form of conversation at some point. “Be back later, baby!” Prudence shouted as she descended the stairs to the main floor of the castle, wiping some ash off the hem of her blackskirt.

Uhm! Hey Eve. I can meet you anywhere. Where are you? My bar is in Coastside, or if you're in the cherrydale area, there is Grey’s saloon? Let me know where you want to meet? Pru sent the text and secured her phone back in the top part of her dress before walking to the Bullwood train station. She didn’t mind meeting anyone she didn’t know a lot about, but it was smart to meet them in a public location, in case anything went bad quickly.

<Every> Every pulled her jacket on and rolled one of her shoulders. There was a stiffness there from the way she’d been sprawled on her couch while writing for too long, the muscle locking up due to misuse. Pausing, she traded her heels for a simple pair of suede boots for ease of movement, and then stuffed her keys into her pocket. Even if Prudence didn’t get back to her, she figured it’d be nice to mail it to her. Every didn’t want it. Although she’d liked the Daughters of Destiny, her dislike of Superbia had grown due to the woman’s disappearance and then the group had fallen to pieces. She had contacted Aly once after it had been closed to get her money back, but the woman hadn’t listened.

She had gone back to only Tytonidae and Andras, something that was enough for her, anyway. The friendships she’d created would always be a part of her, as would the relationship with Azariel during that time, but it was easier to just close that chapter entirely. Leaving her dwelling, the brunette wrapped the thin, long gold chain around her wrist for the time being - Every wasn’t big on putting things in her pockets other than her phone and keys. In her experience, it could fall out or get stuck if she was unlucky enough.

The phone rang in her pocket as she had made it to Gullsborough, Every digging the device out and checking over the message before her eyebrow lifted. “That doesn’t sound like Prudence.“ She blinked and double checked the number, maybe she’d dialed the wrong Prudence? It wasn’t possible, however, she only knew one. Typing out a reply as she bought a ticket for Coastside, she sent, I can meet you at your bar in a few. See you soon. and then pocketed it once again.

She knew over time people changed - she was evidence of it, as were her childer and the rest of her family, her friends. Things changed. Sometimes it bothered her, other times it didn’t - the significance of it varied and generally was the reason behind her ability to tolerate it. Every didn’t like change, she liked consistence.

<Prudence> Prudence had decided on taking the train, but then changed her mind. A few meant a few minutes and she was all the way in Bullwood. This Every person would probably beat her by a long shot. So, Prudence looked around, started off in a run and made her way over to her bar in a zip. “Hey, Big Red.” Her bouncer said as soon as he saw her appear from nowhere. J.J. was used to this by now, having worked for Prudence for years now and he was one of those special humans that knew what she was. ”Hey, J.J.” Prudence punched him in the shoulder before looking around. ”Quiet night?” She hoped so and got the confirmation that it was with a nod of his head. ”See ya later.” Prudence waved over her shoulder before entering the saloon and letting her eyes fall on her thrall, Ryker. Another in the know human, but this one she enthralled. J.J. would probably be her next should anything ever happen to Ryker. Not that he knew that, but it had definitely been on the redhead’s mind.

”Heya.” Prudence said as she scooted up to the bar and took a seat at it. ”Seen any new faces in here yet?” Prudence asked as her eyes looked around anyways. Ryker pointed out a table of women, but they went dismissed by the woman. Every was coming alone, it seemed, so she wouldn’t be with a table of women. ”Thank ya.” Prudence moved to a booth by the entrance, kicked her booted feet up, and let them come to rest on the booth across from her, under the table.

<Every> The shadow took a seat down a few feet away from a group of teenagers that were chattering on about vampires. The topic amused her, really, as she ran her tongue along her teeth before leaning back. It wouldn’t be too far of a ride and it was always entertaining to hear what people thought they knew. The older of the boys swore that they were real - that his dad had seen one. A girl with gold round glasses countered that the boys dad was a drunk, which caused Every to cough into her hand, covering up a minor snort that had managed to escape past her lips. “That doesn't mean anything!” His voice shot up an octave, his face reddening and the rest of the passengers on the train gave him a look. Sheepishly, the boy sank lower into his seat. “Billy, you’re going to end up in the nuthouse one day for these theories of yours.” Another girl laughed and Every leaned back, her head resting against the window as she lifted her arm to look at the pendant.

Out of all of the ‘sisters’ there, Every had been closest to Prudence, who she’d been the second-to-the-crone under Superbia. They hadn't given her **** about being Tytonidae, and had accepted that she had her own views as they did. They’d accepted she’d been dysfunctional and a little bit on the violent side anyway. As the train came to a stop at Coastside, Every heard Billy and his friends still continuing their conversation while she made her way to the door. She heard the girl laugh, asking if he thought ghosts existed, too and it was as she watched the boy look even more embarrassed, she made a split minute decision to summon Zachary while speaking into his mind. “Please scare these bastards witless.” Stepping onto the platform, Every heard him ask, “Why the hell would I do that?” and the group looked around. Their screams brought a grin to her lips and she took off in a light jog towards the Saloon.

She had only been in there a few times, mostly during hunts or through the eyes of her wraith, but it seemed some things didn’t change. But as she turned her head, searching for Prudence, her eyebrow lifted as the sight of the rowdy redhead in a skirt. “Well, that's different. Don't think I’ve ever seen you wear a skirt. How’s it been?”

<Prudence> A woman with dark hair was looking around the bar and Prudence suspected this might be the Every person that texted her phone. They were looking for something or someone, and wasn’t someone Prudence recognized off the bat, and when she gave a look to Ryker, the woman shook her head, indicating she didn’t know who she was. Prudence glanced down at her skirt and then blinked. ”Oh. Well, I mean I’ve been wearing them a while now. Since Nathaniel more or less talked me into them. They work.” The woman said, watching Every’s face for any indication she knew who Prudence was talking about. Maybe she was a friend of her husband’s. That made sense. Someone she knew, but didn’t really know.

”Alright, I guess. Busy, but fine. Quiet. Not in here. It never is in here.” Prudence laughed and then extended an arm for a shake. ”Every, right?” Prudence genuinely believed that this was the first time they were meeting, outside of passing by the other in some event or something. ”Ya drinking something? On the house.” Prudence smiled at the woman before rocking back and forth on her feet. ”I, uhhhh...have no idea what you’re about to give me, but if it ain’t for certain eyes to see, we can head to my office?” The woman looked Every up and down, trying to see what this thing might be.

<Every> Nathaniel. Every didn’t think she knew the name and her eyebrow lifted once again. If there would be one night that it decided to get stuck like that, it would be then. “Maybe she finally moved on from that twat, Cliff.” It was a good move, if so. She had never liked him, really, or even remotely understood what Prudence had saw in the man that Every often compared to a hairless ape. She was opinionated, she knew, but he had accused her far too many times for being the reason his idiot childe hadn’t left the shadow realm.

As Prudence extended her arm, Every could only stare at it for a moment before she looked at the woman in confusion. She then lifted her hazel gaze around, searching for cameras to see if Prudence was messing with her. “Yes… or Eve, as most call me. You included.” She said cautiously before remembering a time when Nishaa had shot her in her head and memories had been forgotten. Some still hadn’t returned, she didn’t think they would and she preferred it that, but what bothered her most was the fact she still couldn’t go without wearing her glasses at times. “Unless it's made a certain way, I’m afraid I’ll have to turn the offer down.”

Sliding the necklace down off her wrist, she lifted it and then held the necklace out. “It ain't anything serious. I found this, thought you may like it for a memento from the DoD. Considering Superbia is back to Azraeth, ain’t gonna bother giving it to him.”

<Prudence> Prudence was rightly confused with Every-or Eve. While the redhead listened to Every, she wasn’t sure why the woman was here. Prudence swore she never saw her before in her life, or maybe she had, but it obviously wasn’t anything big or special for her to remember some random woman she never heard of before tonight. “Nope. We just serve what’s on our menu.” Prudence stated in regards to getting something that was made a certain way. Prudence knew what Eve meant, but they didn’t have that here. Prudence had always thought putting that in her place of business was risky, so she wasn’t going to be taking part in that garbage.

The tall killer watched Every pull something off from around her wrist and hold it out to Prudence. The mention of DoD had her attention, only because Prudence had written about it a couple times in her journal, but every time she tried to think about it-nothing came to mind. The same for this Superbia person-who CC swore Prudence was in love with, but the woman couldn’t believe **** that fell out of that mini’s mouth. Prudence remembered a lot of stories CC spun and all the crazy **** surrounding CC all the time. Prudence was glad to have washed her hands of that crazy *****.

“Uhmmm...thanks?” There was confusion evident in her voice, but Prudence made no move for the necklace Every was holding out to her. “I don’t really wear that kinda stuff.” Prudence didn’t want to say, I don’t know why you’re giving me that, I don’t know what you’re talking about, so she went with a more direct truth. Prudence didn’t wear stuff like that unless crafted by Nathaniel. Then she wore it for him, because she appreciated his hard work.

<Every> “It doesn’t bother me one way or another.” She lifted her shoulder and let it fall in a shrug. While she went into bars and she still craved alcohol from time to time, it was usually when she was down or agitated about something. Because of Micah, though, and a weakness to most toxins, she had to watch who she fed off anyway, or she would end up out for the count. It was one of the few things about being a vampire that Every had grown to dislike, in addition to an issue with becoming weaker during the full moon. Only one good thing had come from that, and her childe Kirill though loyal, was a pain in the *** with his insults she didn’t always understand.

You don’t remember me, do you?” The question couldn’t help but call from her lips, “Did someone shoot you in the head, or-?” She stopped. It was an awkward question and she paused as she tried to figure out a better way to go around it. “The way you greeted me, then, I don’t think you did that even when we first met.” Then again, hadn’t the first time they met it was either through hunting or a cage match, she couldn’t remember it exactly. When she set the necklace back into her own palm, she pursed her lips lightly.

<Every> She tried to think more on it. About her own head injury, but she couldn’t think anything more of it. “Yeah, I pretty much only wear necklaces, otherwise the rest would just get on my nerves.” Even with it wrapped around her wrist like a bracelet, it caused trouble. It wasn’t exactly all that she needed, or really could need unless it stopped a blade from cutting off her arm. Then again, not a lot of bracelets were even able to hold that up. “I met you a few years back, through Worthingless-- Worthington -- but also because Vel had a cage match. We went against each other, but then sometime after that, the ladies of that laughter of a group got together, with Superbia - Azraeth - as a leader. To support each other.”

She rambled. She was uncomfortable and it was evident. There was a reason she’d gone back to be a recluse. Finally, when she calmed, she shut up.

<Prudence> Prudence slowly shook her head when Every asked if she knew her. Or really, had forgotten about her. “Uhhmmm...no?” Prudence said, not feeling apologetic over not knowing someone. There were thousands of people in the city-vampires and humans alike, so it was hard to remember a name to a face if they didn’t stick out to the redhead.

Prudence just stared at Every when the woman asked her if she got shot in the head and then laughed. “Not lately. Maybe not in like...a year?” Prudence crossed her arms at her chest, still finding this conversation odd, but amusing. When Every mentioned Worthington’s, there was a moment of recognition in Prudence’s face. “Ohhh! Right! That defunct family.” Prudence had never held back her feelings about Worthington, or Chaddy; aka Chad Worthington. Vel was a name she recognized, through her sire but she hadn’t really paid any mind to either one of them in a long time. Since Nathaniel came around, Prudence could walk by the man and not feel a single ******* thing about the guy.

“Oh! Right. I remember that. In the Morgue-right?” Prudence asked, because it must have been damn well two or three years ago that that happened. So why did she still have Every’s number in her phone? Kinda weird to have someone's number in your phone when you don’t really do anything other than fight with them. Unless you were Mordie. Then that was a different story.

“Cool. About your group thing. Are you here to recruit me or something?” Prudence uncrossed her arms at her chest, and swung her feet to the edge of the booth so she could tie her booted feet. “Kinda not interested in that sorta thing anymore. Worthington’s left a bad taste of that let’s get together and be the change ya wanna see in the world, ****. I mean woulda been cool if it had worked out, but with a retard of a leader like Chaddy, it’s no wonder nothing got accomplished.” Prudence put her fingers on the side of the table that she sat at and bent them around the side, waiting to see what Every was going to say or do.

<Every> There was a look of confusion mixed with shock as she looked at Prudence that shifted into wonder. She didn’t remember. That made her wonder what else the woman remember. When Nishaa had shot her, Every forgot a lot of her problems, which had been fine until they’d been forced back into her. Some childer, fights, things that she didn’t understand. She was alright forgetting them, not knowing, but Micah hadn’t liked it. And she supposed he was right, it wasn’t always good to forget. She’d gotten stronger because of the issues she’d wanted to escape from.

But why did Pru forget?

“Yes, The Realm under the Morgue.” She moved to sit opposite of Prudence, still watching the woman as she shrugged out of her jacket. She considered that maybe that she should just walk away. That she could still walk away, pretend none of it had even happened but… there she was, sitting. “Yeah, Worthington. Cliff and a few dumbasses disliked me and a few of the others because we were in Tytonidae.” The caution in her words made her frown as she leaned back and folded her arms in front of her chest. But when Prudence asked if Every was trying to recruit her, the brunette could only give her an incredulous look.

She didn’t really know what to say as she leaned forward slightly, “I’m not trying to recruit you… it's been dead for almost a year, maybe more, because the leaders disappeared. You and I were part of the warring part… you were the Crone, I was your second in command. Superbia was the mother, kind of the overseer.” She explained, watching the redhead for a reaction, “DD, Aly, Eilidh?” Who else was there, “Azariel called dibs on the title of first penis for male supporters, Mordechai was also there.”

<Prudence> Cliff. The mention of his name had the woman blinking, but not doing much of anything else,. When it came to her ex, Prudence had closed out any emotions towards him the night she had packed up her old apartment with Azraeth. Why hadn’t he mentioned anything about DoD then? Azariel had been mentioned in passing-but nothing more than that of he was his brother, twins-if Prudence remembered right. Someone Prudence temporarily had a thing for, until she didn’t. It was fun to hang out with him for a while, but she found him to be only a smidge better than Cliff, so jumped ship when she could.

“I was?” Prudence laughed and then looked around. “Are ya ******* with me?” She scooted back in the bench to face Every. “I mean, I would remember doing something like that.” Prudence looked at Every like she was kind of nuts. “I know Azraeth, and last I checked he was a he and not a she. I saw him about a year ago maybe? I dunno, been a long while. Helped me pack up my old apartment even and then disappeared again. Not that I’m mad about it. We weren’t really close or anything anyways.” Prudence frowned and scratched at her cheek. Why did it seem right saying all those things, but when she heard herself saying it-seemed wrong. “But warring seems like my thing. Woulda totally signed up for that **** any day of the week.” Prudence gave Every a small smile, not sure what else to say.

<Every> “What would I gain by ******* with you?” She questioned, because when in truth, that’s what she tried to think about with connections. “Well, apparently you aren’t. I’m creative, but I’m not that creative especially seeing I thought almost all of Worthington was useless until I was proven wrong.” Adjusting slightly, Every pulled out her cellphone and searched for a number. Under Daughters of Destiny, she was able to find what she was looking. Tapping Superbia, Every pulled up a picture of the mystic and then turned it around to face Prudence, “Look familiar at all? Azraeth is a mystic - I’ve met him with both genders.” She shook her head.

“After the doors had been opened for a little while, Superbia pretty much disappeared on us… You called her SuperAz.” She paused, “Then you went off, I went off.” A shrug of her shoulders was given. “There might be a discussion about it still on Worthington. I still haven’t had access after asking to be removed once Chad kept adding me.” She tried to think back on something, eventually tapping her phone a few times. It took her a moment, but when she did, Every frowned. “Do you remember Ami being taken by a group of Paladin?” As she spoke, she considered it, “Well, given the fact you don’t even remember me and we were pretty decent friends, that’d be a no. I can show you where it happened.”

<Prudence> Prudence looked at the cellphone that had been faced in her direction and then laughed. “That’s not Azraeth. I saw him before Christmas, last, and he was definitely a he and not a she. And yuh, I know about the mystic thing, but I’ve only ever known him as a he.” She said with resound confidence. The mention of Ami had prudence shifting gears and getting into her serious mode. Her mode of business. She never knew what actually happened to Ami, but it was starting to come together. Paladins took her and she never came back.

“That’s what happened to her.” Prudence said a frown creasing on her features. “They killed her.” And then she never came back, was what Prudence wanted to say, but didn’t. “I don’t remember any of that. Sorry. I just knew she disappeared one day, then I never saw or heard from her again.” This shred of information now provided her with a new outlook on who to focus her aggressions at from here on out.

<Every> “It’s not Azraeth, Azraeth. It’s Superbia Azraeth. He came back in a different body around then.” Her eyebrows furrowing. She was still a little mad, admittedly, due to the fact someone she'd been calling family up and disappeared. “You didn’t. In fact, you were close to BiaAz. Sounds like your memory has been wiped.” Every sighed, “Which I know how much of a ***** that can be. It’s why I asked if you’ve been shot in the head recently.” A shake of her head was given and she stretched out her legs before tucking them back underneath herself.

She hadn’t seen Ami after that and Every could only give a small nod. “Well, if you aren't busy for a little while, I can show you.” She inclined her head partially, a frown playing across her lips, “I remember where the place is. It isn’t too far, Greco-Roman design. Little bit old fashioned.” She searched through her phone for a few minutes before finding what she was looking for. “July of 2013.” She murmured and then showed the sketch that had been made. “Anything?” Her eyebrow lifted, her hair brushing against her cheek as she leaned forward once more.

<Prudence> Every was either spinning a crazy *** tale, or what she said was legit and Prudence had the mind to entertain her. If not for Every’s own delusions, than to call her out on her **** when Prudence started to break down the story, piece by piece. When Every talked about a wiped Memory, Prudence raised a skeptical brow. “Welp, no. I mean, I don’t think so?” Prudence tried to remember Nathaniel ever saying something like that to her, but couldn’t. “Wouldn’t remember that I reckon if I can’t remember being close to some person I can’t even remember seeing before last Christmas.

At the question of being busy, Prudence shook her head. Other than a couple tables that seemed a little rowdy for whatever reason, Prudence bar didn’t have much for clients tonight. 2013 seemed like ages ago, but Prudence reckoned she would remember Ami being kidnapped, a building they went to and the names Every had mentioned before. Prudence inched into the table to look at the picture, and there was some hesitation in her answer. “Uhhhhh.” She wandered the city a lot, so Prudence was sure she had seen that building before. Somewhere. “I think so. Is it close to the woods? Don’t think I’ve seen that place in a really long time.” Prudence wasn’t even sure it was by the woods, but she was sure she had seen it before.

<Every> “I’ve seen it before, dealt with it before, too.” She stated, her hazel eyes studying Prudence’s features as she tried to think of any tangible proof. The board had ceased to work - a product, Every supposed, because of Superbia leaving. Finances were still around, but Every had since bothered not to speak to Aly again after that last time. “I’m sure you could find some of the discussions on Worthington about the -.” She paused and then turned her phone back around, beginning to look for something - she had saw it just the other day. “Aha.” She set her phone down on the table before turning it around for Prudence to see.

“Huh. I forgot Aura was one of the leaders. See. I’m not crazy.” She zoomed in on the leader part, where Prudence’s name could be seen. “Well, actually the crazy part is always debatable, but I wasn’t lying about this.” She shrugged her shoulders, and then she nodded softly. “Yeah, it’s out in that direction. I don’t think any of the Paladin remain there, not any more, but,” She shrugged to show that it wouldn’t be a big deal. “I haven’t been out there in a couple of years, didn’t really feel the need really. We made it into the Sister’s Sanctuary.” At this, Every stood back up and held her hand out to Prudence in offering to help her up.

<Prudence> “I kinda don’t really go to that forum anymore. Nothing going on there anyways.” Prudence shrugged at the mention of checking out the Worthington forum. Every made a sound of triumph, put her phone back on the table and then turned it so Prudence could see what Every had pulled up for her to look at.

The redhead bent down and looked at the faction information and then pushed the phone back at Every. “Well, **** me sideways.” She looked a little shocked, yet still held a little disbelief. “What the ****?” Prudence didn’t know what to say or do. “I, uhhhh, kinda don’t know what to say.” Prudence admitted. “I honest don’t know or remember anything about anyone or anything about this group. Or being part of it.” Every must be thinking she’s lying or as crazy as Prudence made her out to seem just a couple seconds ago.

A hand was offered to Prudence but she just looked at it. She wasn’t holding it to her like she was going to shake it and leave, it was an offer to help her up. Prudence took it, not sure why they were getting up, or where they were moving to. “Sooo, I was part of this group, where I was a Crone-what’s that even mean again?” Prudence asked as she stood by the booth, not sure what else to say, or what to suggest. “Did we do anything fun, or do anything at all? I feel like I would remember if we did something real bad ***.”

"That really doesn't surprise me. That clan is fucked up." She lifted her shoulder in a shrug before it fell. "It's part of the reason that the faction was made in the first place." She lifted her hand to scratch at her cheek after the phone had been pushed forward. She had found the information that she had wanted to that would prove to Prudence that she hadn't been off her rocker.

Her lips pressed together, unsure of what else to say either. She drummed her nails lightly on the table. Anxious. "My childe shot me in the head not too long ago. I forgot things that were important to me until someone that's a stubborn *** made it a point to tell me to remember." She shook her head. There were still things that were forgotten, but Every had since figured that if she didn't remember them by now, they weren't coming back.

It was a pain as she'd always had a good memory recall until that point.

Every helped Prudence up, offering a slight smile. "Bascially, you and I were the warring leaders of the Daughters of Destiny, or defense because people were nit picky about fighting." She gave a soft roll of her eyes to show her opinion of it. She wiggled her nose idly. "Well, we did do fun things. When Azariel was sleeping, his eyebrows were shaved off and we drew penises on him in sharpie once during a raid." She shook her head, chuckling, "Cherrywhip invited some of the girls on her boat as well. As for bad ***? Short of trying to get our girls back, the only action we really ever got was when Cherrywhip and Azariel wouldn't stop hitting each other, and she went after Dreamfire a few times."

Prudence listened to Every as she started reliving tales of things they did together in the Daughter's group. The name Cherrywhip only got a raised brow and a simple shrug, Prudence feeling nothing about the woman that she had sired and once considered a mini of hers. Kennedy's casual name drop resulted in a different reaction, Prudence giving Every a small smile and nod of her head. She remembered that, and she sort of remembered the whole eye brow thing on Azariel, but didn't remember the specifics of how and why they were on Cinnamon's boat. Just that they were and had been. The recollection made Prudence laugh a little.

"Fightings in my blood, so if you're telling me I did some scrapping on behalf of Kennedy, I believe ya there. And I remember the penis thing too. Pretty accurate portrayal in size, I'd imagine." Prudence was only half serious and laughed to show that was the case. She liked Azariel and they had had some fun together before Prudence got an eye full of what was her husband now, then. "So you're telling me what about this group? Cause if it was still in working order, someone woulda swung by by now and said something, right? Being the fearless leader I guess I was at some point or another? The group went **** side up? Not surprised." That was pretty much Prudence's life story. Anything and everything she joined and put her all into went defunct. "I mean, I know Kennedy is still around, you're around, me...so what happened with the others? Other than Ami that is." Prudence figured Ami bit the bullet when she went missing, which explained why she hadn't heard of seen the woman in...years? "What happened to everyone else? They all die? Screwed off to other, bigger and better things? Gave up, like the Worthlesstons do?" Cinnamon told Prudence some things, but what was true and what wasn't...was as good as anyone's guess. Most of all, Prudence's.
