The small ball of cotton tickled as it dropped onto her chin, rolling down like the weight and force of it was comparable to the boulder that found the right hill to descend from. The tumble left it’s mark as her skin rose beneath and the surface was covered in small bumps that would quickly disappear when it took a second unavoidable plunge from her collarbone. It was lost to the bed of honey blonde ringlets beneath her head and shoulders.

Indigo eyes floated to his and fixed on his own. They were dropping down, coming closer to her than she expected. Like cool silk falling slowly over sunburnt skin. That was what she felt from head to toe. relief and need for more than she had a right to ask for. Even then she knew it, felt it at the core. But that didn't change the soothing effect to the otherwise rising heat across her body in places that even she couldn’t explain.

Adley found her with a choice of his own. He held her down so gently like she would break apart on the cloud beneath them. For that she was so high with the increased contact that she prayed she could take him with her. She was sure of it because the want alone was that great within. The weight of her eyelids increased but she fought it. What it was that he was so capable of still eluded her. She was not giving in to the way her body wanted to. The weakness was increasing and she knew the chances were higher than she was that she could float away somewhere far for the recharge of energy she was losing quickly. No, it couldn’t happen. Not yet. Not now.

The air between them. She felt it then it was gone as her skin moved slowly against his own. It was powerful, perhaps more than she ever anticipated. An unreasonable wish was one that was granted with the kiss that fixed her lips to his own. Hers parted and felt the wealth of his bottom one as they closed over it. The tip of her tongue traced it and she found the world slowly spinning around her as her body sank deeper into that abyss of serenity that he had the power to bury her in.

Caramel fingers moved slowly, in a sleep like motion expected of a lover waking beneath the touch of the other. The glide of her fingertips went upward from the base of his spine, full contact as she pressed the heat of her open palm beneath them and followed their lead. She memorized the muscle that moved beneath, the shape of each as it worked with the others attached. The taste across her lips had her mouth open gradually. She inhaled the air between their parted lips and took in the scent of him deep in her lungs which inspired her chest to rise, sharp points and all against his. The coolness of his skin, his lips brought forth a soft sigh that was lost with her exhale. Wherever it was that he had the power to send her she wanted to take him with. Her fingertips pressed down firmly, holding his weight against her in hopes that he would go with her as her eyelids fell over her indigo blues and claimed her.

Adley couldn’t go with Indigo, as much as he wanted to. Oh, how much he wanted to. His body awoke beneath her touch, her warmth spreading through his skin. Why hadn’t he met her before? Before he was this? Before her blood could inspire a frenzy in him and his touch to send her to sleep?

And as soon as she was asleep, Adley backed off. Like she had suddenly become something undesirable – though she could never be undesirable – he pushed himself up and away, falling onto his backside beside the bed, knees up and elbows resting upon them. His thumb brushed over his lips, his eyes wide as he peered at the sleeping Indigo. She looked so peaceful, so content. And yet, his touch had put her to sleep. In that moment, he vowed that he wouldn’t touch her. Couldn’t, not for prolonged periods of time. Nor could he kiss her. What he had just instigated was not something that they could continue, or finish. How long did he have to touch her before he could put her into come kind of coma? Or kill her?

Cursing under his breath, Adley forced himself to stand. The room thankfully smelled only of antiseptic. Even when he collected the cloths and the cotton covered in red, he could only smell the antiseptic. And he couldn’t think of any baths of blood, not when he was remembering that kiss, and what her hand felt like as it had trailed its way up his back. As he cleaned and scrubbed and made everything sparkling and white in the bathroom, he continued to sigh and to curse. It crossed his mind several times that he should just leave. In fact, he even decided that he would. He’d definitely walk away from this, and from her, and would never put her in danger again.

And yet, when everything was clean and all the blood was gone, Adley found himself back in the bedroom tucking a blanket flush around Indigo’s body. She’d been laying on top of the quilt, so he’d pulled it out from where it was tucked and rolled it around her, snug and secure. And only after there was no chance she could get out and accidentally spoon him in the middle of the day did he crawl in beside her. It was too close to dawn, he told himself. He’d never make it home in time. He had to stay. There was no choice.

Just to be extra sure, he pulled some of the numerous pillows down beside him. But he wasn’t too worried. The bed was huge. As soon as the sun came up over the horizon, he passed out.
