Dear mama,I finally arrived in the city. If you'd call it that. It seems more like a mistake in the frozen north, surrounded by nothing. But I am here nonetheless. It's awfully quiet here though, even as it warms up. Wonder why everyone looks so down...
Isis stopped writing her letter to push her hair back behind her ear. It didn't last long; the winds blowing it haphazardly across her face. She pushed the strands back again with an annoyed look crossing her features, before taking a sip of her now lukewarm coffee.
The city was mostly quiet this time of day, she'd found out. Most people didn't venture out before sunrise, and those that did really didn't pay her any mind. Instead their eyes were frantic, almost fanatical. The few that seemed normal made her sigh in longing. They were sadly quite infrequent , but elegant and graceful, and often left her with a deep longing in her chest, and a tremor down her spine. It should be illegal to be so beautiful.
Isis shook her head at her musings, then finished her letter for the day.
Mama, I hope you can read this where you are. When I get more on my feet, I'll figure out where I'm going, maybe head back to school. Just know that I'm doing fine, and despite it all, I'm glad I moved up here.
Love always,
Isis
Signing her name, she looked up at the cafe lights illuminating her words, then took another sip of her coffee. Turning her head, she looked towards the sky. Judging by the rosy tone brushed across it, she assumed it was fifteen minutes to sunrise. She tapped her foot against the leg of the chair and wondered if she had enough cash to buy a beignet.
