[Portal Question] - What is their reach?

So, IC Pi is in Paris. I know it's been asked and answered, and that Tomes work to transport a vampire back to HR from anywhere in the world.

How about portals? If Pi bought a portal, and tied it to the house she owns in Paris? Could she then have a portal from the Den TO Paris, and then could tome home again?

Curious to see just how far these magiks work.

David will need to weigh in on this one, but I don't think Fadeportals can go outside of Harper Rock. Fadeportals, from an RP perspective, are basically holes between two distinct points of space, which are connected by the Fade. Because the veil between the Fade and the 'real' world is thinner in Harper Rock, this works. However, if you were to try and portal out of town, you'd probably end up stuck in the Shadow Realm. Similarly, portal wouldn't be likely to exist outside of Harper Rock, at this time.

Yeah, it does strike me as a little too easy if it were possible. Just trying to work out Pi's potential movements since she's in Paris. So she could tome home, but would have to catch a flight back to Paris.

The only risk is the vampire popping up into their own living. Pi stopped having two way portals ages ago. Now that was definitely risky, for sure.

Although, on hindsight, I see Josh' point. It would hardly be practical for the portal to work, but it would be awesome if it did. Certainly solve Pi's world travel issues.

this was answered in the canon thread long ago...i dont remember the exact wording....but paris is definitly out, as i believe it was referenced portals have something todo with the rift, so just hrc and the surrounding area...

Thanks! I remember the tome home topic, but not the portal one. And yeah, I am reconciled to no Parisian portal ;D

Yeah I think we should have a limit on the distance of a tome and a fadeportal. As Josh said, fadeportals only make sense where there's the sundering, and that's in HR only right now. As for tomes, they are already super powered, lol. If one day the game spanned the entire continent, I wouldn't want people able to tome to any city immediately.

My bad, I approved the tomes working from anywhere in the world. I assumed it was legit, since the magic is basically demi-fae powered. What sort of distance should be attached to the tomes (for future reference)?
