Ignite the Shadows [Nishaa]

Post by Caligrace »

There is no way I’m going to finish in time.

Sighing in defeat, she tossed her pen onto the desk and rubbed at her eyes. She had been staring at the same log for two hours, and she was no closer to finding the discrepancy then when she started. In fact, if it were possible, she was even further behind. She had scoured over each deposit and withdraw until the numbers had blurred together and had found nothing. Yet, she knew it was there. For a moment, she had wondered if it was her mind playing tricks on her, and then she had taken a second look - then a third. It had remained the same. Five thousand dollars. Disappointment didn’t begin to define the emotion building her chest.

Claire, what are you doing?

She hated to think the worse of her employee, and yet all the signs pointed to her. She couldn’t have been more obvious if she had worn a blaring neon sign that flickered ‘I did it!’ She had tried to overlook the changes in her attitude - or the fact that was dressing far above her means - but she couldn’t. Shaking her head, she pushed from the desk and stretched, her back screaming in protest as the tense muscles were forced out of their crouched position. “There’s nothing more I can do tonight,” she muttered as she slammed the log closed and tucked it under her arm. The thought of what she had to do weighed heavily on her mind, and without the proof she needed, she knew she was in for a battle.

Stepping from the office, she made her way to the front where the blonde was leaning against the counter, twirling a piece of gum around a slender finger. At least the store is quiet, she thought as she dropped the book in front of the woman. “We need to talk.” In an instant, the sweetness to her voice had evaporated, replaced with the hard authority that she hated. Holding onto the fire inside of her, she leaned over and yanked the magazine from beneath her hand and tossed it into the trash, earning the attention - and ire - of her oldest [and only] employee. “What the hell was that about?” The demand was harsh, and she stepped back when the woman stood.

Height was clearly a disadvantage - her, at five three and Claire at nearly six foot - but she refused to let it intimidate her. At least, she tried not to. She could feel the panic build in her chest and blossom through her bones, making her muscles heavy. Forcing herself to calm, she narrowed her eyes on the woman. “That was me getting your attention. Now that I have it, this should be easy. Claire, you’re fired.” The words slipped easily from her tongue, and she felt relieved. It was short lived, however, when the woman scoffed and leaned down, her face close enough that she could smell the whiskey and bubblegum on her breath. “Nice try, buttercup. You fire me, I’ll go to the press about you.” The threat was so quietly spoken, she would have missed it - had she not been graced with inhuman senses. For a moment, she was too stunned to speak, and she had to force her features to remain impassive as her mind worked quickly.

“About me? What in the world could you possibly have on me?” Shaking her head, she laughed off the notion as if it were the best joke she had heard in her life. It seemed to work, as the woman stepped back and frowned. It was clear she had expected an entirely different reaction, and she watched as her pretty face twisted into something hideous. Her plan was falling apart before her eyes - and she was furious.

“Oh, please. You’re going to try to lie? I saw you! You’re a drug addict.

In a second, her world seemed to stop. At first, she wasn’t positive that she had heard her correctly. Drug addict? The silence drew between them as they stared at each other, and she could tell by the widening of her eyes that she thought she had won. It wasn’t until she gave that poisonous smile that she lost control. The laughter had her doubling over, and she pressed her hand to the counter to stop from falling completely to the floor. “Oh, that’s perfect, doll. The best thing I’ve heard all day. Go ahead, tell them I’m a drug addict. Really,” she urged, before shaking her head. It didn’t take long for her to calm herself, and she motioned towards the exit. “I’ll have my lawyer be in touch,” she smiled.

Watching the realization dawn in her eyes was priceless, and she took a quick step back as the blonde pivoted on her heel with a loud huff. The sound sent another wave of stale alcohol in her direction, and she fought the urge to wave her hand in front of her face. Resting her hip against the counter, she crossed her arms over her chest and watched the woman stalk off, the door to Temptation slamming shut with glass shaking force. “Well, that could have gone better,” she sighed, before pulling her iPhone from the drawer. I might as well go even further out of my comfort zone, she chuckled to herself, her finger sliding across the glass until she brought up Nishaa’s name.

[Text] Hey, It’s Caligrace, Freyja’s childe. She suggested that we meet. If you want, I’m at work. You can stop by. Temptation - it’s in Redwood. You can’t miss it! xoxo

Once the message was sent, she tossed the phone onto the counter and dropped her head into her hands. She was now a cashier short - and she hadn’t been able to afford that in the first place. However, the more pressing issue was how she was going to handle Claire. She knew that the woman wouldn’t go quietly - she had seen the promise of retaliation in her eyes. With a quiet sigh, she picked her phone back up and found her sire's name. There was a time where she would have handled the situation on her own, yet something warned her that it was going to be out of her element. The thought of having to spend more time with Claire than necessary caused her chest to tighten, and that little warning bell sounded in the back of her mind. I knew she was trouble the moment she walked in the store. This is what pity gets me, she sighed, her fingers quickly tapping out the text.

[Text] I need you to take care of something for me. I’ll explain when I get home. Love you! xoxo

She wasn't even sure when the woman would receive it - she tended to leave the device anywhere but on her person most nights. Chuckling to herself, she dropped the phone back to the counter and rested in the seat, her heel dangling loosely from her toe as she tapped it against the counter. Now that she had lifted the burden of her employee off her chest, the night seemed far less bleak. Reaching over, she hit a few keys on her the computer's keyboard, Taylor Swift instantly beginning to play from the speakers. There, that's better. Grinning to herself, she picked up the nearest pen and opened her journal, the orange ink filling the pages as she waited to see if the strange 'dark woman' responded before closing.

A blade came down upon the Paladin’s head as she impaled the ******** with her axe, the very same axe that she had made herself back when she had been heavily invested in making the perfect blades for not only herself, close family - but for her faction as well. Most of her blades were in a lockbox in the Eyrie kept for a rainy day not only for the faction members, but for newer family members that are sired into Andras. Onyx hues looked around herself as she kicked the paladin’s corpse away from her so her axe dislodged itself from the skull of her victim.

Her phone buzzed in her pocket. She had it on a simple vibrate she couldn’t get along with these stupid message tones that came with the phone. She shook the axe in her left hand, trying to get as much blood off the blade that she could before pulling out the cellular device in her pocket. Eye blinked at the text message, it came from an unknown number. It wasn’t known to her. She read the text again, over and over. She didn’t know that little blonde had a childer. She shook her head.

[text] I guess we can sure, I’ll be there soon.

It was something simple, Nishaa didn’t do any of that kisses **** unless she was quite friendly with you, or she knew it would piss them off. She did it to Gramps, because well - it was gramps. She held the hand in her hand and began to make her way back to the sewer exit. Redwood wasn’t far from here, she was sure of it. She had only descended into the sewers back in Wickbridge and she hadn’t ventured that far into the belly of this beast.

Climbing out of the sewers moments later, the bloody axe still in her hand, she ignored the eyes of the humans that were looking at her. Her messy black hair, and her dirty leather trousers and her grey polo shirt. She wasn’t the most fashionable. If anything, she actually looked quite intimidating. She made her way to Redwood within the span of fifteen minutes, making her way to this temptation place that Freyja’s childe was saying she ran.

When she got a look as to what was inside, she was pretty sure it was some kind of lesbian, heaven.

Bra’s, underwear it was everywhere. Staring at her.

As the text messages came in simultaneously, she dropped her pen to the counter and reached out to grab her iPhone before it slid off the counter. She knew instantly who had responded to her without bringing up the app, the first tone being reserved for unknown numbers - and the second being her sire. Sliding her thumb over the glass screen, she scanned both messages before sighing. The one time she pays attention to her phone, she thought with a smile before closing out of the app and dropping her phone back into the drawer with her journal. She’ll just have to wait like I told her to, she continued, even as she began to lock up the desk. She doubted that the woman coming to visit her would have any need for her personal possessions, but the paranoia that had been instilled in her since birth refused to allow her to take any chances.

Once she was certain everything was secured, she turned her attention to the company computer and gave a quiet sigh. The knowledge that she was going to have to hire someone else weighed heavily on her mind, leaving her almost dreading the meeting she had been looking forward not even five minutes prior. It had nothing to do with the woman she had invited to her shop, but it had her doubting her ability to assess the true intentions of people. She had always been far too trusting, and yet, she refused to learn her lesson. It didn’t matter that her skin should be all but nonexistent due to all the times she had been burned, she continued to look for the good in people. What if she made an error in judging this woman that apparently had won over her sire? “That should tell you all you need to know,” she reminded herself before forcing herself from the desk.

There was no sense in dwelling on it now.

No sooner had she stood, then the door opened, the soft bell seeming to echo throughout the empty store. Her gaze snapped up, her lips parting to inform the customer that they were about to close, when she saw who had taken up the doorway. The woman was… frightening. It was the only word that she could find to sum up the tall stranger. Her form was slender, and even from a distance, she could tell that she had at least a good five inches on her in height. However, it wasn’t her build that gave her the terrifying edge. It was the glacial gleam in her eyes that had the woman reaching for the chair behind her. Even as she searched the shop in wonder, she could tell that this was someone that didn’t hesitate to take a life, and it sent a chill down her spine. You have got to be kidding me, Freyja. Shaking her head, she slowly relinquished her deathly grasp on her computer chair and forced herself to straighten to her small height of five foot three.

Very intimidating.

“You’re nothing like I expected,” she heard herself speak, and she felt instantly relieved when she realized she had managed to keep the tremor out of her voice. Slowly, she made her way around the desk to head for the woman, her heels sinking quietly into the lush black carpet beneath her feet. “Welcome to Temptation. It’s my little slice of heaven,” she laughed as she waved her hand in a flourish to indicate the room of satin and lace that surrounded them. Moving until she was directly in front of her, she hesitated before holding out her hand. It was the proper way to greet someone, and yet, the thought of touching the woman sent a chill through her.

Instead, she moved her hand to run through her hair, sending the scarlet curls to tumble in a messy wave around her shoulders. Despite the fear that choked her, she managed that brilliant, warm smile that seemed to melt even the toughest of men - or in this case, women. She doubted it would work on the pallid creature in front of her, but she couldn’t seem to help herself as she tilted her head. “Freyja has told me a lot about you, but I have to admit, she left out the part that you could kill with your stare alone.” The words tumbled from her lips, her nerves causing her Quebec accent to thicken.

She’s going to kill me. Lord, what have I gotten myself into?

Bra’s. Yes.

Nishaa liked all the bra’s. She made her way further into the shop, she wanted to look at the black bra’s she looked better in black and hey, maybe it would turn her wife on. She liked it when Marjani was turned on it meant she was doing something that seemed to arouse her wife, oh yes. Yes indeed.

She didn’t notice the brunette coming up beside her as she grabbed a spiky looking bra from the rack and held it up. Oh yes, she wanted this one - hey, maybe she could somehow turn this bra into a top somehow when she goes hunting - her boobs weren't big enough to show off, so if she could pull it off into something like a sports bra but with a little more bling, well boo-*******-yah.

The sound of someone else brushing against the rack then snapped her out of her - apparent fashion crises as she turns her onyx hues onto the woman who seemed to be a little smaller than her as she raised an eyebrow, putting the bra she had in her hands back onto the rack as if she was quite disinterested with the item.

“I tend not to be.” She said so non chalantly. She turned her whole body this time to face the woman. “People expect a beautiful, graceful woman - and then they get someone like me.” There was a laugh then, like she was laughing off the fact that she didn’t really care about her looks and how people perceived herself to be - which was true, she never gave a single **** to what people thought.

“Oh yes, what has Freyja told you exactly about me then? Caligrace.” Her eyes moved over the woman’s petite frame with a passing gaze, she was sizing her up. Seeing what damage she could do if this woman thought she could take her on - though she knew she would never do such a thing. She laughed more or less to herself then - under her breathe.

“Did she tell you how we met?” She laughed. “I saved her - as she was in quite the pickle.” Ah, the blonde woman she had grown to like. She was quick to defend herself and her actions, she even back chatted the necromancer which in a strange way gained her brownie points.

That would look good on her. Maybe I’ll try to sale it to her later. --- Or maybe she’ll kill me before then. The night’s still young.

Shaking her head, she forced another laugh past the lump in her throat as she took a step back, allowing some space to filter between the two. “Being unexpected doesn’t make you any less beautiful. If my sire keeps you around, you clearly have a trait that she desires,” she smiled, though the expression felt out of place. She normally hadn’t no issue in finding it within her to flirt with someone - no matter their appearance. She’d been known to make even the most vile of creatures to feel like they were special in her life. It was all a part of her charm - and her business depended on it. However, she found herself far too frightened to offer her anything more than an unsure, timid laugh.

I’m going to kill Freyja for this.

With a inner groan, she forced the thoughts to the back of her mind and focused on the task at hand. She could hear the tick of the clock above her door, and she knew that in a matter of seconds, it would be time to close for the evening. No sooner had the thought finished, then a loud clang echoed throughout the shop as the locks slammed into place. Removing her gaze from the Nightmare in front of her, she held up a finger and headed for the glass doors, her fingers working deftly at the keypad. “I should have warned you about that, sorry. Freyja has a thing about my safety,” she spoke over her shoulder, though she made sure to let the information sink in, before continuing. “Personally, I think it’s a little overboard, but she hired someone to time the locks with the closing of the store. You wouldn’t believe how many times my customers have been locked in here until I keyed them out.”

Once she was finished with the passcode to disable the system, she grabbed a few stray garments off the floor and headed back for her, her free hand motioning to the desk. “I need to re-tag these. You mind sitting with me? I’m a mess tonight,” she said dramatically, before hopping up onto her chair and spinning to face her with that familiar twinkle in her eyes. It was clear that she was still young, her uniquely shaded golden eyes still holding a light to them that most of her kind seemed to miss. The darkness had yet to seep into her soul, and yet, she could tell by studying the woman in front of her that it was only a matter of time. I wonder if you were always this…terrifying, she thought to herself, before quicking silencing herself.

Grabbing the dark blue negligee off the top of the pile, she held up it in her fingers for a moment, and studied the color against the pale tone of her companion’s skin. “This would look amazing on you. You’ve got the body for it, and that hair would send anyone wanting to rip it off you,” she admitted, before offering her a smile as she held it out. “Free of charge if you want it to show off to someone special in your life.” She was careful with her word choice, having learned from her best friend and sire both that not everyone shared their hearts - or bodies - in the traditional sense. It was hard for her to wrap her head around it at first, but once she had been turned into the undead, it had become a pointless concern. “Now, why don’t you tell me how you saved her? I’m dying to know something I can hold over her head.”
