A Question for Those Who Make Amazing Banners

Post by Drogon (DELETED 7199) »

I was wondering what kinds of programs those of you who are extraordinarily skilled at making banners/character art use, as I would love to start mastering my own abilities :) Thanks!

Photoshop is one. Gimp is another. As you can tell I have not mastered it by any means. Those who create them are true artists.

Photoshop is my tool of awesomeness... and frustration. <.<

Yeah. I've decided I am one of those amazing people you are talking about. *shrugs*

Photoshop takes a long time to master, but just keep at it, try different techniques, look at some tutorials and you should find your own style soon enough. :3

I use photoshop. It's a *****, self-taught. But if you keep at it, as Claire says, you can master it.

I am... okay. Not an expert by any means but I give it a go.

You are two of the best banner makers on this site! ;-) Definitely two of the amazing banner makers.

<.< Wish I had photoshop, though Gimp is free so it works. :-)

I use gimp, there's quite a few tutorials about it on Youtube or some resource sites which can ne linked to such as shadowplay, a thousand fireflies and caution. It took me about six months of constantly using it to get where I am today, but if you keep at it you can do things in it that others pay for photoshop for.

Good luck and can't wait to see what you come up with!

QFT!!

I use PhotoShop CS6 and I'd be happy to lend anyone any tips that I've learned! (basically from other amazing players in this community. :)) you guys have been my teachers)

It's a huuuuuuuge program and there's so much you can do with it. Though I know A LOT of the tools, I feel like I've still only scratched the surface of what can be done in PhotoShop. If you can get it, it's amazing. I recommend CS3 if you can't get CS6. They're VERY similar and when I upgraded from CS3 to CS6, I wasn't confused about tools or where to find them.

Pixlr is a really good online editing service that's free. Not as complex as photoshop or gimp, but has a few decent features. I used it before I got my hands on photoshop, and it's really good for doing sandbox type stuff to figure out a lot of basics.
