Charlie closed her eyes and inhaled the delicious scents all around her. Baked goods like cookies and cupcakes, biscuits and donuts, the sweetness of sugar in the air. There was also the richness of coffee, espresso, and hot chocolate. There was the distinct scent of steaming milk and the mixing of flavored syrups that released their potpourri when the hot coffee met it. But scent wasn't her only heightened sense - all of them were. She could taste the food on her tongue like a snake could. She could feel the warmth of the air, the tender caress of the wind as it brushed along her skin. Her hearing allowed her to hear the rhythm of the many hearts around her, that soft lull of blood rushing through veins. There was the occasional skip and double beats of hearts of men and women in love or at very least, in lust.
Charlie didn't just listen to the sound of their blood, but the conversations they had, the rise and fall of their tones, the harmony of voices mingling. And then there was the music playing inside the café, oh yes, she could hear that too, despite being played only inside and her sitting on their patio, she could hear it. Right now it was an upbeat thing, something that inspired people to him and dance. With her eyes shut, she couldn't see it, but she suspected at least one person was at least swaying as they waited in line for their order. And then the song changed, somber, sweet, also inspiring in its way. She felt it, deep inside, as if it were speaking to her, singing just for her, chipping away at the wall she built around her heart to protect it from more harm - the harm of love, protect her from cupid's arrow.
The roar of a motorcycle caught her attention, and instinctively, her eyes snapped open. Sight, something that a lot of people could take for granted but truly was the eyes to the soul. Her gaze fell on the male the sound drew her eyes too. Sight, the one sense that could bring joy or sorrow like no other. And then there was the phrase 'Love at first sight', she hadn't believed in it before. Now though...
