Tracking and Weapon Parts

Post by Mircea »

Do the changes to tracking affecting the quality of weapon parts you can pick up off the ground affect those weapon parts you find from NPCs?
Habren's. Then. Now. Always.

No, it's only for the stuff you find randomly laying about on the floor.

Including the Junkyard piles, too.

You can get Source Codes from tracking? What sorcery is this?

I'm reviving this thread cause I am curious about a few things regarding the Tracking skill. Before posting this I went and found the update posting in hopes that it would answer some of my questions, but it seems that now I am even abit more confused about trackung.

According to the Tracking skill update of Jan 09:

Better Randomly Generated Weapons Parts
This acts almost exactly the same as the randomly generated weapons, but for weapon parts, not whole weapons.

The only difference here is in the specific details. Each time a weapon part is picked up, an 80 sided dice is rolled. If the roll is less than or equal to the character's tracking skill, the weapon part's base stat is increased by 1. The dice is rolled again and again until failure occurs, as with random weapons. This means that if, ordinarily, you were about to pick up a quality 10 weapon part (1 in 24) and you had a tracking of 20, you'd have a 1 in 4 chance of that part becoming an 11; a 1 in 16 chance of that part becoming a 12; and a 1 in 64 chance of that part becoming a 13. It's quite a small boost compared to the other new tracking advantages, but over time it can start to be useful, especially when coupled with the extra weapon parts trackers will naturally stumble across anyway.

Was there a change after the Jan update or something?

The update also lists an increase in weapons found on the ground, as well as higher quality weapons for those with higher tracking and the ability to find certain "Hidden Items" laying around towmn.

Hidden Items
The tracking skill now reveals progressively more floor loot which would not ordinarily be noticed by those with a tracking of 1.

For the most part, these aren't rare items, so the change simply makes certain items more common to stumble across for those with a high tracking skill. However, there are now certain rare items which can be found more frequently by those with a high tracking skill. Trackers are twice as likely to stumble across random relics found on the floor, and are also the only ones who can find Isk faeshards. To give some more examples, they are much more likely to find wallets, slightly more likely to find gems, and a fair amount more likely to find custom weapons and random weapon parts laying around on the floor. Having even a tracking of 4 will start to reveal more of these hidden items, but having a maxed out tracking skill will of course reveal all hidden items. Please note: nothing has been taken away from regular players by this update, and no existing loot drops have been made less frequent than they already were for non-trackers.

So, basically its increased crap that most of us don't even pick up to begin with? Unless you have maxed out your tracking skill at which time you will be able to find Isk Faeshards, which will be used iat some point when the Enchanting skill gets going & are basically a resale item that nobody wants until they are stated in Enchanting. You can also ind gemsin the caverns? The ones that we all used to find are now hidden to those that except the high skill trackers? Not sure if the resale price for Amethysts have been upped, but I think they used to go for $100. Not super worth it unless there are a ton of them now. I suppose they might be sold to those that have metalworking skill raised up to the level needed to craft jewelry, but I really don't think there are more than 4=5 in town that can actually do that.

Is that it or are there more items that can be found?

You don't need a maxed out tracking skill to find Isk's my character was finding them from like 13-14 tracking <.< it just makes it much more likely to find them the higher it is.

I've not found a shard in months. Ric has a 15 in tracking.
I find tracking absolutely pointless, but rp wise it fits him. So, what you gonna do?

I find tracking pretty handy, just in the quality parts Pi finds.

And since she's forever picking up guns and parts in the Castle, and is a Master Gun Crafter... it's sorta in line with what she is and what she does and I can't wait for when she starts finding interesting stuffs.

Her tracking is pretty low right now. But that's what I'm working of for her levels now that she has reached her targets for her other major skills.

I'm not sure I see the correlation to tracking and finding excellent gun parts. I have characters with nothing in tracking and finding 8 -11 in quality. Anyone can find those?

It is the frequency of which you pick up the better parts. My poor thrall has a rubbish time getting the nice parts, but Pi picks up the nice ones all the time. So many in fact I've stopped keeping anything under 10 >.> I throw them at Michael to make guns out of 9=< so to increase cash made from all the random parts.
